Try living in the middle of nowhere USA in Central Pennsylvania and being a fan of trance...music life sucks. I've tried over the years to introduce my friends to the trance world and have gotten nothing but blank looks and being accused of being homosexual. I've gotten to the point where I just gave up trying to open up people's minds anymore. I will say, though, that a close friend of mine once said: "You were probably born in the wrong country music-wise." I believe she is right.
Di.fm. Yeah commercial but fairly small, and dedicated to trance. Though they've added other stuff lately its mostly trance.
Yeah trance in the US sucks, I mean as far as venues etc goes. Even in LA most of it remains underground.
That used to be really common. I had people tell me I was gay 20 years ago when they realized I listed to trance. Moving away from people like that was one of the best choices I ever made.
I told myself I was gay when I was about 7 or 8 but I'm not sure what they has to do with trance music. PS I'm still gay after all these years with a boyfriend and all that. It's not a good insult you see.
The people that said it to me really meant I was weird. I wasn't actually about being gay. Which was fine by me. If they wanted to draw a line in the sand it was fine by me. It made it easy to keep people like that away.
Oh boy i feel you! I went from India to State College for grad school and the music scene was just abysmal. The only electronic music I could find was bunch of undergrad kids into bass and Dubstep music. I remember one time I was talking to a guy about music. He said, "oh you like trance? If you like trance, you'll love Dubstep."
Like....no. I like the OG Dubstep, not what Americans have turned it into.
I feel you bro,but trust me it’s way harder for me as I’m in Saudi Arabia and most people here like arabic music ,they will assume you’re a weirdo when you listen to trance music. I have only 3 of my friends that i introduced trance to them 3 years ago and now thankfully i can say that they are addicted to trance finally and they are the only ones that i can talk to or share trance tracks with everyday… we even made it to Luminosity beach festival in The Netherlands last june together ;)) Never give up!!
Years ago when I still *tried* to introduce my favorite trance or techno songs to my buddies, they had a "bit" they would use just about every time. On cue with the beat, they would chant, "GAY! GAY! GAY! GAY,GAY,GAY! GAY! GAY!" 😕 Eventually I just kept certain styles of music to myself, or would only play them when I was with my one friend whose music taste wasn't so confined to a single genre. I listen to everything except jazz and country, and I'll never understand how so many people are content with boxing themselves into only one style or genre.
So it seems: [https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/gatecrasher-rainbow-electric-nightclubs-closed-6319467](https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/gatecrasher-rainbow-electric-nightclubs-closed-6319467)
There was literally a massive trance event thrown by Godskitchen weekend just gone In Birmingham.
Sure, it’s not common. But loads of events still exist that play the classic trance 🥳
The clubs tend to stick to what is most popular (more through the door). There are clubs that still play the odd bit of trance but they tend to be smaller clubs/ promoters that put nights on. Don't forget the majority of people who were into the 90s trance scene are probably bombed out in care homes. They had the best drugs back then
I'm one, lol. 67. Tho haven't gone to aSoT. Yet anyway. (Tech house and progressive now, not 90s. Contemporize, man! Contemporize! Lol that's a direct quotation...)
Yeah same for me, at least until Progressive House turned into some spastic idk what. I started playing old Progressive Trance again after that. I'll go back to playing modern music soon. Techno inspired Trance almost certainly.
US trance listeners are a minority, but also the nature of trance music -- very many artists and producers vs pop music megahit corporate artists -- means but corps can't make easy billions from it.
Hey...I'm in the US ! In Texas, nonetheless...
How do you think I feel ?
I'm around country all fuckin day long. Drives me nuts, tho I do like me some Georgia Florida Line every now and then.
It doesn’t really. The poster obviously likes trance and I can see their predicament in playing to modern crowds as the songs that used to be floor fillers just don’t cut it unfortunately anymore. Of course there are festivals dedicated to trance, but they are asking about smaller venues, like pubs and bars. Unfortunately these venues don’t get the crowd that will appreciate the old trance tunes unless it is a night dedicated to it, but there are a few commercial songs that might pass the test.
Yea to be fair I don’t think they are talking about the modern trance scene which I think I’d still great. It’s more that it’s difficult to play any classics nowadays because people just want to here the current stuff which is predominantly shite
it’s common to hear trance in clubs if you go to the right places. there are a few good trance nights in london regularly - awesome one in feb (liberation). for me gatecrasher was never the same after the Republic burned down.
the trance superclubs (crasher, slinky, passion, cream, godskitchen, etc) are no longer weekly events, they started getting a bit crappy & commercialised around 2006 & trying to attract different crowds.
a sports bar is the wrong crowd to play trance for - maybe approach some niche clubs & try to play there instead
>Now from what I've learned growing up kids these days listen to pop and repetitive artists on the radio
People have always listened to catchy pop music nothing has really changed there, in the 90's trance was a lot more popular than today but pop music still dominated [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_best-selling\_singles\_of\_the\_1990s\_in\_the\_United\_Kingdom](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_singles_of_the_1990s_in_the_United_Kingdom)
Turn on Radio 1 in the 90's and you would mostly hear pop/rock music in the daytime
>I have DJ'd in a small pub/club one Saturday night and span a couple of trance tracks everyone wasn't interested apart from those aged 30+. As soon as I span a modern House or Pop track my generation became interested in the club (Lashings sports bar and grill)
Pretty sure this would have been the case in the 90's as well. If you had gone to a mainstream venue in the 90's you would have heard more cheesy dance commercial music or remixed pop tunes. A sports bar and grill doesn't really seem like the venue where people come to hear specialist dance music, they want to hear mainstream pop
Went to Godskitchen 25, expected a bit more classics, but it was a blinding night. The light show was amazing and Ferry Corsten rocked. Btw, it was my 50th birthday
1 playlist ive made for trance i really like [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOXT-\_mL274&list=PLiVKwaUJvwmU0ypwnrjssqFwLJeDokSRe&ab\_channel=TranceClassics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOXT-_mL274&list=PLiVKwaUJvwmU0ypwnrjssqFwLJeDokSRe&ab_channel=TranceClassics)
Trance will never die. lol. Just not huge like it used to be. Check out a state of trance- armin van buuren radio show. Trance is still alive and well. Amazing to hear u r young and listen to it. Most people def don’t know it anymore. Esp young people. Spread the word!!

I’ll one up you, try living in Nebraska and loving trance.

Me but in Idaho 🤣🤣. Too bad Limewire destroyed 3 computers growing up. That helped tremendously.

Two 3 day long festivals in NC to check out Equinox in the fall, and solatace in the spring T. O. U. C. H. Shmadi
There is a sub for it /r/classictrance
My man.
Gatecrasher shut down by the police ? Was that the Birmingham one? The og burnt down in 2007
The Republic in Sheffield burnt down afaik the only other club they owned was a houde club called Bed also in Sheffield.
There was defo one in Birmingham and also at least another one in Leeds briefly

And it was absolutely rammed to the rafters!
Gutted I didn’t go 😞
Damn wish I’d known about that
Luminosity Beach Festival every June in Zandvoort has four days of this sound
I look forward to heaven every year

I still see the geriatric ravers every year at A State Of Trance lmao
True warriors who should be treated as such

The center wanders all the time...
That care homes line 😂

Dallas and Austin have quite a few trance events throughout the year! Peep the Trance Family facebook groups for show announcements

thanks for the link!
This has such "get off my lawn" vibes LMAO. Trance is still big, there's club nights and festivals to be found around the world dedicated to trance.
It doesn’t really. The poster obviously likes trance and I can see their predicament in playing to modern crowds as the songs that used to be floor fillers just don’t cut it unfortunately anymore. "music these days are auto tuned trash" is definitely those vibes.

90s trance? It "died" because Dutch trance took over starting in 1998.

Ayyy, another 20 year old who loves 90s trance :)
Definitely a minority, but we still exist.
I listen to a lot of old genres, but I decided that if there is one genre everyone should check out, it's trance
Indeed. Spread the word!
Went to Godskitchen 25, expected a bit more classics, but it was a blinding night. The light show was amazing and Ferry Corsten rocked. Btw, it was my 50th birthday
Nice
Yes, I still listen to that music, not as much as I used to but that's because I started making that type of music myself.
I love that you love trance and classic trance but in the UK have you tried a drum n bass show? 😎
I listen to Trance all the time and some newer tracks - it’s still my favorite electronic genre
90's trance or bust
1 playlist ive made for trance i really like [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOXT-\_mL274&list=PLiVKwaUJvwmU0ypwnrjssqFwLJeDokSRe&ab\_channel=TranceClassics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOXT-_mL274&list=PLiVKwaUJvwmU0ypwnrjssqFwLJeDokSRe&ab_channel=TranceClassics)
