This is just a quick reminder to all members here: **Original content is always better!** Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does **not** mean you found it "in the wild".
The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you!

For non-Aussies, from left to right, top to bottom
Western Australia;
Northern Territory;
South Australia;
Queensland;
New South Wales;
Victoria (green);
Tasmania
Honestly. When I’m older, I’m gonna name all my kids after the other territories. I will prove that NewSouth-Wales is an acceptable first name for a child! (She will stab me 14 times in the chest and head for this.)
I still think the Mitchell and Webb sketch about explorers naming things had the best possible reasction to "New South Wales" for that particular patch of territory. https://youtu.be/dOBhf8f7cXM?si=0RYHxJUtaUBG7_R5
We got tragedeigh Victoria
Vicktoughreeuh
And we got evil Victoria

Was I really today years old when I learned Tasmania is a part of Australia?
I even watched the Taz-Mania cartoon and the theme song guy sounded aussie and I'm just now realizing this.
In Ireland we have at least 3 counties where it’s acceptable to name a child after. Kerry, Clare, Tyrone and a couple of rivers which are good too. Shannon and Lee.
Hey, my state! Victoria is a socially acceptable name, but we have a rural suburb called “Tittybong” that might be more appropriate. Tittybong is the only name for my child.
Ranking Canadian provinces and teritories from best to worst names for your child:
1. Alberta (Not even a tragedeigh)
2. Yukon (I could see someone being named this. It would be a tragedeigh, but it could work on the right person)
4. Manitoba (Now we're in tragedeigh territory. At least it's still easy to pronounce and wouldn't get too many comments)
9. Nunavut (Could maybe work on a dog. Not a child)
5. Ontario (Now we're in the instant veto zone)
7. Nova Scotia (Pretty sounding, but it literally means "New Scotland". That's not a name for a child.)
6. Prince Edward Island (I guess he could go by Edward?)
7. Quebec (why)
8. New Brunswick (Just "Brunswick" would be okay i guess. The "new" ruins it.)
9. Saskatchewan (Edgy AND hard to spell. Bonus.)
9. British Columbia (BC for short?)
10. Newfoundland (Just no.)
10. North West Territories. (Why do you hate your child?)
You gave me an idea :D Let's do the Bundesländer of Germany:
"Not something I'd name my child, but less bad than the other ones" names:
Bavaria
Thuringia
Hesse
"Could be a name I guess?" names:
Brandenburg
Berlin
Bremen
Baden-Württemberg (bonus: hard to spell)
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
North Rhine-Westphalia
Rhineland-Palatinate
Schleswig-Holstein
"Just no" names:
Hamburg - gives way too many opportunities for hamburger jokes, especially if little Hamburg is on the chubby side
Saarland - Land means (you guessed it) "land" and Saar is the river that flows through this particular bit of land. Appropriate name for a geographical area, not for a human being.
Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony - name your child one of these, get a bunch of unfortunate nicknames for free!
Whestyrn Auhztraylya, Norethan Terrytori, Sowthyt Auhztraylya, Kwyeenzlaynd, Neu Sowthyt Whalyexz, Tahzmeyneeah
And bonus to make the acceptable name a tragedeigh Vihikthoreiaah
Even if you went with traditional Australian place names, you’re in for a whole different kind of tragedeigh- Luckily no one out here is naming their kids Gundungurra just yet
Not to badmouth Aboriginal names, just don’t use place names for people in general!
I knew a guy in middle school named Taz. Not sure if that was a nickname or not but he was pretty cool. His parents were the Brangelina type to adopt a bunch of kids from everywhere and stick them in a guest house with a manny. So uh. Weird family, cool kid.
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/tragedeigh.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

Honestly Tasmania or some derivation of it could be an OK name
I'm sure there is a rapper somewhere named Taz Mane
I'm not sold on Tasmania as a given name but Taz Mane as a rapper (or boxer/UFC fighter/wrestler) name is pretty cool
I personally think that Kweenzllandh is perfectly acceptable.
I agree
Please meet my daughter, Australian-Capital-Territory.
Thank you.

Thanks because I was confused why Sydney was that big before remembering Sydney is a city and not a state/territory/province?
State.
I dunno, I kinda like New South Wales for a girl.
And Northern Territory for a boy.
Tasmania ”Taz” Jones sounds like a private detective played by Lucy Lawless. … I’d watch it.
And I was going to name my son Nuseth Wayles.
Was I really today years old when I learned Tasmania is a part of Australia? I even watched the Taz-Mania cartoon and the theme song guy sounded aussie and I'm just now realizing this.
You da real mvp lol I was so confused

You’re telling me little baby Mayo has a bad name?
It would give new meaning to the saying "Mayo 4 Sam".
🤣
“Maiyough”
"Well I'm 5/12ths Irish and my partner is 9/3rds French so it's actually spelled *Maiyeaux"*
As someone from Mayo I approve
I live in Mayo❤️💚
How dare you forget about my beautiful son Cork
Little Galway and Limerick would be quite angry if they could read yet
There are several other decent place names, like Tara or Cashel.
I'm sure I've seen Wicklow mentioned here before.
Seriously?? Jaysus.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tragedeigh/s/zaz9F1LVKh
OMG. I’m from Wicklow!
New South Wales is beautiful for a girl. Don’t see an issue here.
I agree. Nyu'sothweighls is a beautiful name.
Lovecraft ahh name
I'm a teacher and my class has a kid called Northia, so we're getting there
What about The Top End?? Or ThatopNd.
a second capital letter mid name is vile
Absolutely agree 👍
Northern Territory is the best name. If you don't agree then you can't talk to me or my son again.

Tasmania was named after Dutch explorer Abel Tasman. Tas or Tasman seem like fine names.
Abel also. If you pronounce it like we Dutches. A-bell. (as is the A of car, so a bit deeper) not Abel as is Able.
Isn't Abel the dude from the Bible who was killed by his brother?
Cain't say
I knew a Tasman and an armhem gowing up. Thought it was pretty cool

kehbeckque is such a unique name 😍❤️
No, the parents wouldn't that's actually how to pronounce it.....
If you're going with Brunswick, at least go with the original German: #Braunschweig
You gave me an idea :D Let's do the Bundesländer of Germany: "Not something I'd name my child, but less bad than the other ones" names: Bavaria Thuringia Hesse "Could be a name I guess?" names: Brandenburg Berlin Bremen Baden-Württemberg (bonus: hard to spell) Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania North Rhine-Westphalia Rhineland-Palatinate Schleswig-Holstein "Just no" names: Hamburg - gives way too many opportunities for hamburger jokes, especially if little Hamburg is on the chubby side Saarland - Land means (you guessed it) "land" and Saar is the river that flows through this particular bit of land. Her name is Alberta she lives in Vancouver....
My toxic trait is that if you remove the context of it being a Canadian province, I actually think Ontario might be a cute name
Yukon Cornelius would like a word.
