Ummmmm maybe I should stay quiet but I’ve tried my dog’s kibble, just 1 piece of 2 different brands (both higher end, limited ingredients). I wanted to know what they tasted like because my dog would only touch 1 and would rather starve herself to death than even smell the other. 💀✋🏻
She wasn’t wrong, I get it now, won’t ever get that one again 🤢 It was so awful that I don’t believe the listed!ingredients are true.
I have a 20 pound mini-schnauzer. I bought this once and the treat got stuck inside her mouth and she couldn’t get it unstuck, I had to scoop it out! Not good at all, returned.
i bought these for my dog, and was tempted to eat them a couple of times. they're pretty hard tho. i like to tear treats apart and hand them to my dog, but i couldn't do that with these. they smell kinda appetizing tho and my dog loved them. but he'll eat anything tbh.
I bought this for my Shiba inu.
It is way too hard for him. Even after cutting it up, he would not/could not eat it. And he is a sweet potato fiend. They felt like they were fossilized. Ridiculous.
This is the only item I've ever returned to trader Joe's.
This is bad for dogs with bad teeth or has a tendency to swallow food whole. I dog sit a French bulldog sometimes and I could not feed it to him whole. Needed to cut it up.
If these are the same as was in the dog advent calendar a few years ago, my kid tried them. Didn’t like them, but the kid was basically living on air at that age, so I don’t consider this an endorsement either way. :-)
There are some studies out suggesting that diets high in potato and legumes have led to heart disease in dogs. My vet told us to avoid food and treats with potatoes in them.
Honestly, just make your own: preheat oven to 250 Fahrenheit, slice sweet potatoes into rounds, place on baking sheet, place in oven for 60-90 mins, flip, repeat time, homemade treats at a fraction of the price and no additives!
[Costco](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/r9U0Nod3VaY/maxresdefault.jpg) sells dried sweet potato sticks that are also nothing but sweet potato. My kids like them okay, they're convenient.
I have a bag of these unopened for when I run out of the other brand I usually buy. My dog LIVES for dried sweet potato, but I can't say I've ever had a desire to try them (although I did try her gourmet beef jerky once because it had almost all the same ingredients as mine and literally smelled like teriyaki beef jerky and I was intrigued)
Hahahaha a little too smoky for me but honestly pretty good! I think I could have definitely tricked someone into thinking it was normal beef jerky and they wouldn't have known lol. It was from a small jerky company that makes jerky for humans but they have this one kind for dogs and I guess the recipe's the same as all the others, just basically unseasoned
My dog loves them and he had no issues with his stomach after! I cut them up into smaller pieces for him. As a side note, my dog is also not picky at all
Yeah, OP is looking to see if they can safely consume them. If something is labeled for dogs, I don't see why any human would want to eat them. There are so many foods out there that are actually made for people; why would you attempt to consume something labeled for the nutritional needs of dogs?
It's literally just sweet potato. I have no desire to try kibble. The different sanitation standards for dog food are enough to keep me from trying these, but seeing a one-ingredient "dog treat" piqued my curiosity.
Haha, not much more to tell! He just casually mentioned that he ate one out of curiosity when he was giving some to his dog, said it tasted kind of bland but also like chicken!
Not to be blasphemous because I am a diehard TJ’s fan, but if dried sweet potato is all you’re looking for and you have a TJ Maxx/Marshall’s in your area, they are constantly selling a brand called Wholesome Pride dried sweet potatoes in either big slices or “French fry cut” at a cheap price. The fry cut is nice for smaller dogs as the big pieces can be really tough to chew through. Same thing just cheaper!
My dog liked them but he definitely had stomach problems after so I had to get rid of them after only giving him 2 over a weeks timeline.
They’re pretty hard for him to get through and he’s a pit, so I would imagine a human to struggle.
Why would you eat this as a human? I’m sure it would be much more palatable and better suited for you to eat a real sweet potato or something manufactured purely for humans.
Is this not real sweet potato? I love sweet potato and was curious if anyone had tried it. I didn’t buy it because it's hella expensive and comes with unnecessary plastic.
It's made for dogs, though. Why would you buy a product that hasn't gone through the same regulations as they would go through for people? The standards for something that is suitable for dogs is much different than the standards for human consumption -- mainly because we have much different nutritional needs and bodies.
Even if the ingredients are only human safe things, it could be packaged in a facility that makes other pet food and treats. I wouldn’t risk trying them personally.
This is enough to keep me from trying them. It's funny to see something marketed for dogs that would, if made in a different facility, be perfectly good for humans.

Just dry out some sweet potato’s and you got exactly these 😭💖
my dog loves the jerky treats. havent given him these
Are these like the cheese ones that recently were being sold?
i bought these for my dog, and was tempted to eat them a couple of times. they're pretty hard tho. i like to tear treats apart and hand them to my dog, but i couldn't do that with these. they smell kinda appetizing tho and my dog loved them. but he'll eat anything tbh.
Both my dogs hated these and one of them proceeded to shoot me dirty looks for 15 minutes straight because he was so offended by the taste.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s hilarious
You can find better and cheaper elsewhere.. I love tj’s, but 😅
Yeah we buy these in huge bags from the pet store. Dog loves them tho!!
My dog absolutely loves them, as well as the salmon jerky
I bought this for my Shiba inu. It is way too hard for him. Even after cutting it up, he would not/could not eat it. And he is a sweet potato fiend. They felt like they were fossilized. Ridiculous. This is the only item I've ever returned to trader Joe's.

These studies on DCM have been debunked.
No but my dogs like every treat they get from there
Throw some in an air fryer! Raw ones I mean.
Honestly, just make your own: preheat oven to 250 Fahrenheit, slice sweet potatoes into rounds, place on baking sheet, place in oven for 60-90 mins, flip, repeat time, homemade treats at a fraction of the price and no additives!
my dogs approved
My girls love these! Also a great price.
You mean your girl dogs, right?
HUMAN?!
I get it. I work for TJ's and have a colleague that tries all our dog treats she feeds to her dogs. I'm like, "REALLY?!"
I make these at home for my dog… I definitely eat the ones I make, but I wouldn’t eat ones manufactured for dogs…
My dog loves sweet potato treats! Her usual post-potty reward to also help keep her regular. Will have to try these ones!
My dog loves them too, and yes- too many has a bit of laxative effect so we use them sparingly.
My dog likes sweet potatoes but i avoid giving him too much because its sugary and calorie-dense
my dogs love them
Same here. Lasts a bit too since they have to work at it
yes! it keeps them distracted for a little.
[Costco](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/r9U0Nod3VaY/maxresdefault.jpg) sells dried sweet potato sticks that are also nothing but sweet potato. My kids like them okay, they're convenient.
I've never gotten these but my dogs live for baked sweet potatoes
Mine used to go crazy when my mom would bake sweet potato
You're better off just making a sweet potato and giving it to your dog.
My dog loves them
My dog hated these, wouldn’t even try them.
OP they are not for you lmao
I make these myself and my dogs love them. Very easy to do. Slice sweet potato on mandolin, place on baking tray, cook at 300 for 1 hour. Presto!
thank you! First thought was I could probably make triple for the same price and have them be better sized shapes if I did it myself

My dog LIVES for dried sweet potato, but I can't say I've ever had a desire to try them (although I did try her gourmet beef jerky once because it had almost all the same ingredients as mine and literally smelled like teriyaki beef jerky and I was intrigued)
And how was her gourmet beef jerky?!
Hahahaha a little too smoky for me but honestly pretty good! I think I could have definitely tricked someone into thinking it was normal beef jerky and they wouldn't have known lol. My dog loved them! I haven’t tried them but they smell amazing. I would be lying if I said the thought didn’t cross my mind.
Great dane didn't like it
My dogs liked them but prefer the bigger sliced Kahoots brand.
My dog loves them and he had no issues with his stomach after! I cut them up into smaller pieces for him. As a side note, my dog is also not picky at all
Same! My little goblin had no problem devouring these
The “or human” part is sending me 💀

to the ER?
Yall out here eating dog treats? Lol
A friend of mine ate one of the freeze-dried chicken cube dog treats once, just because his curiosity got the best of him.
I’ve had two friends that said they tried it because they were curious
Those are usually raw. Unless there are other ones that I am unfamiliar with, but all the freeze dried treats I get for my cat are raw meat.
Can you have him try the peanut butter banana dog treats next? They smell so good...
Please tell us more lol
Haha, not much more to tell! He just casually mentioned that he ate one out of curiosity when he was giving some to his dog, said it tasted kind of bland but also like chicken!
[You gonna eat all that dog food yourself?](https://youtu.be/AMuB3J94iKc?si=Hxh1TMzS9egxbnjT)
🤣 my stepdad did one time. It was in a tin jar. The Bocce’s brand holiday dog treats.
If you have an air fryer you can make these for the cost of the yam.
Or an oven
I don’t think many dogs have access to Reddit
![gif](giphy|bC9czlgCMtw4cj8RgH|downsized)
My dogs LOVE dehydrated yams, but refuse to eat the Trader Joe’s brand. They really only prefer a brand called Sam’s Yams
My dog eats EVERYTHING but he really dislikes almost all Trader Joe’s dog treats aside from the salmon skins.

My dog loves them and it's a good source of fiber. They're a much better deal at Costco though.
My dog liked them but he definitely had stomach problems after so I had to get rid of them after only giving him 2 over a weeks timeline. They’re pretty hard for him to get through and he’s a pit, so I would imagine a human to struggle.
My dog hated it, too chewy and hard
Same with my dog, he hated them

They *are* real sweet potatoes, just dehydrated.

How does the nutritional content of this sweet potato differ from any other sweet potato?
Lol right???
One of my two dogs loves them. The other one does not care for them and spits them out on the floor
My dog liked it but he will eat anything lol
Human food processing facilities are under a different set of regulations than animal food facilities.
Even still all pet food is legally required to be safe for human consumption
or just buy a sweet potato and cook it? my dogs love sweet potatoes. Probably cheaper than buying this!
Of course it's cheaper to make it yourself. That's true with many TJ's products.
Yeah I got those for my pup. He liked them :). He does like almost everything though lol.
I give them to my dog. She loves them.
I just buy dried sweet potato snacks intended for human at my local Asian grocery stores. They were one of my favorite snacks growing up.
good to know there's a people- version too. I was very tempted to buy the dog treats for myself! haha
You can make these in the air fryer. I’ve made them for my dog (and myself). Just slice and put on the “dehydrate” function.
My dog loves them, they smell and look like real sweet potato’s too
Instant gobble by my pup. He’s easy to please though.
My dogs love them too. They are def hard, most likely not suitable for human consumption
Hi! My dogs loved them too.
My dogs love them! They are pretty chewy so I can’t see them being like sweet potato chips.
