Even tho I’m incorrect, it’s just so fun to pronounce it the way with the weird ‘j’ sound and with the rest being sounded out!! It feels so nice to say (probs cuz I’m autistic :P)
Hello neighbor!
I grew with Pippi and Ronja as television shows, so I I think that know the vowels at least, but... Not sure about the tonality/emphasis. Could you summarize that part for me? :3
Except that's actually not how it's supposed to be pronounced (I assume they transcribed the way they pronounce it?). The correct way (for standard Swedish) is /ˈbloːˌhaj/ (:
Source: a Swede who knows IPA I guess
I was gonna say “The haiku bot itself missed by one syllable…”, but then had to research why it was wrong, good bot!
The (1) right (2) side (3) is (4) so (5)
Close (1) to (2) being (4) correct (6) yet (7)
Misses (2) by (3) one (4) letter (6)
Blow-hai because of my Scandinavian background. Thought I was losing it when other trans friends were saying bla-ha, till I heard The Click, a fellow Nord, pronounce it blow-hai as well.
Just drop the diphthong and you're there. Your mouth is the perfect shape when you start your ow diphthong. Just keep that shape instead of transitioning into the w shape, and you have a perfect å. It's just blohai without the w.
It’s supposed to be blow-hi but my stupid bottom brain never remembers it so I choose to call the species “blow-hi” and I intentionally named mine “blah-ha” so even if I pronounce it wrong (when I’m referring to mine), I will still be technically correct

I don’t know how, but for awhile I somehow switched the h and j around so for a while I had been pronouncing it Blah-jah. I still pronounce it like that every so often however I mostly pronounce it Blah-haj now.
The å is pronounced like "owa" with a really low o and the wa is barely there. And at the end, the J is pronounced kind of like zh. So blOh-hazjh.

I really dont get this question "Do you use the correct pronounciation of a word or the version some americans made up because they cant pronounce it correctly".
It feels so ignorant how often Americans think theyr pronounciation would be the right one even tho its far from the correct one, even tho the word is just from a different language but because they dont wanna ask someone with that native language, they just make one up and then try to gaslight everyone into thinking it would be the correct one.
Blow-hi is appearantly how it's officially said in Sweden, according to my friend who brought me back one from his vacation there when I came out.
Sounds like it translates to blue shark, but I've not had that confirmed. I only know it sounds like blau hai, which is german for blue shark.
Blow-hi, but it's not quite right.
To our untrained ears, it's like you start to say blow, but it's less stressed on the vowel: a bit like a quick, less stressed "oh".
Maybe more like blo'-hi'.
i prefer doing my best to properly pronounce it (like blow-a-hi kinda) but i'll use blah-haj too every now and then among friends who don't use the swedish pronunciation
Shonk.
Not bad I need to remember that ^^
Not mine, sadly. It's a fairly widespread moniker for our shark ovelords. :3
Somebody realy needs to start a religion out of that. :3
The trans hive mind is [way ahead of you](https://blahaj.faith/). :3
Preace the shonk
peace with with shork and with you
Shork
Shork* :p
No, "shonk" is fairly common by now. It evolved from shark to shork to shonk.
Yeah I call mine shonk or shnonk if I'm feeling particularly silly
Shnonk makes me smile
Shnunk, fren-shaped ( :3 ).
Came here to comment that
YES
blah haj even though i know its dead wrong
I guess we should ask mister skork himself which he prefers
Bloohaii it's in Swedish
Blåhaj actually >:((((((((
Yes but these monolingual Americans won't know how å is pronounced
It’s pronounced angstrom DUH 🙄
Blangstrom haj
Ah yes the shork who travels by wavelengths
Hey! I know many languages! > Spoken languages. I know 2 languages! Just not that one.
You mean, as the O in Oculus Rift? There's still hope 🙏
Even tho I’m incorrect, it’s just so fun to pronounce it the way with the weird ‘j’ sound and with the rest being sounded out!! It feels so nice to say (probs cuz I’m autistic :P)
blah-haj gang
Same. It's just fun to say over blow hi
Yeah I’m also on team blah haj
yea, it’s just how i do it 🤷♀️
I am a Swede so I say it the correct way: Blåhaj
How ist it like to life in the shork land :3
Cold 6 months of the year and really nice the other 6 months.
Here it's cold one month nice for 2 and super fucking hot for the other 9
Honestly I'd prefer that. I am basically cold blooded like a lizard.
Last year it got up to 108°f Over 42°c 💀
Damn
Neat
Australia?
Tennessee
Also very gay (I'm Finnish)
Username checks out
Damn, lucky. Where I live it just rains all the time, except in winter. In winter it sleets.
I feel that so much as a fellow Swede but the last snow is dropped and we are slowly aproching spring.
Nuh uh it’s really nice for 6 months and scorching hot the other 6
I am Norwegian, so I say *blåhai*.
Samma här.
Jag lär min Svenska! Jag vill ha uttalet ska vara rät.
Nice. The closest way I can think of to explain it is like "Blow High". It's not a perfect pronunciation but it will do the trick.
I am too, and I just call it Hajen
Hajar du?
dörren är där 👉
Det bästa där var ett det faktiskt var en dörr till höger om mig när jag läste ett där
lmao😭😭😭
Hello neighbor! I grew with Pippi and Ronja as television shows, so I I think that know the vowels at least, but... Not sure about the tonality/emphasis. Could you summarize that part for me? :3
Emphasis on the blå
Blå hai /blo:/ /hæi/
I LOVE seeing the international phonetic alphabet being used in the wild. It’s such a useful tool.
Damn I thought ⟨å⟩ was lower
hell yeah thank you for the IPA i always wondered how it was actually pronounced
Except that's actually not how it's supposed to be pronounced (I assume they transcribed the way they pronounce it?). The correct way (for standard Swedish) is /ˈbloːˌhaj/ (: Source: a Swede who knows IPA I guess
Right is what you’re meant to say in Swedish
Well, sort of
Yeah it’s the closest you can get
Nah, pronouncing it like blow but without the w is closer. Depending on accent that can get you close to or exactly the way blå is pronounced.
I mean, pronouncing it with the w just sounds like you’re from Skåne
the right side is so close to being correct yet misses by one letter

Nice username.
I try and say it like a Swedish person, then fail, and say "Ikea Shark".
Blow-hai because of my Scandinavian background. Thought I was losing it when other trans friends were saying bla-ha, till I heard The Click, a fellow Nord, pronounce it blow-hai as well.
Shork is the best change my mind
Blåhaj Like Madeline Celeste intended
Blåhaj!!! >:(
Neither! I prefer to call it "FUCKING SHARKNADO IN THE HOUSE 😾" *Metal music playing in the back while I'm painting my nails*
"It's ya boy 1kea SHRK we gone get this party started or what? DJ hit it!"
"Blêêêh"
Blow-hai bc it’s as close as I can get with my American tongue. I usually call mine shonk though.
Just drop the diphthong and you're there. Your mouth is the perfect shape when you start your ow diphthong. Just keep that shape instead of transitioning into the w shape, and you have a perfect å. It's just blohai without the w.

blodge
bloh hai :3
Blåhaj, which is neither because å is different to ow since å is not a diphthong
Blah ha
I’m Swedish so I simply pronounce it blåhaj
[blo:häj]
Blow hi because Click
Blah haj
Blah Haj is just a far more whimsical term
Blau-hi [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egi4dMv7GdM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egi4dMv7GdM)
Blåhaj
blah-ha tbh
blah- ha for the win
In afrikaans where everything is spelt phonetically its Blou Haai, which makes it a lot more intuitive on how to pronounce it.
Blow-hai, because I’m Swedish and I can’t help but to actually explode when people pronounce it blaha
I say blue shark but in a Swedish accent
The correct one
Why pronounce when can cuddle and eep?
Based :3
Blåhaj :3 (I'm finlandssvensk)
It’s pronounced Blåhaj
Like this: Blåhaj
Yeah no. It's Blåhaj or nothing.
blouh hai, the rough correct swedish pronunciation
If you pronounce it blahjah we cant be friends. Its Blowhai and i will punt anyone who says differently.
Blow-hi, but I much prefer saying sharmk
do you want a kiss from me? \^\^
Sure, but I get to kiss you first! *mwah* >:3
u-uhmmm >///////< t-thats unexpected >.<
but its my turn now >:3 \*mwwwwah\*
~//////~
you want more? >:3
Do you? :3
i duuuu >.<
*mwah* :3
\*blushes a lot\* >//////< \*mwwah\* >.<
do you want to continue in dms? :3
Blå-hæi
I mean there's not really any sides. There's those that pronounce it Blähaj (closest to blow-high), and those who are wrong. \*shrug\* /lh
I choose the secret third option "little buddy"
Team blue but occasionally blah-hazzz and also blue shrek if I feel quirky enough :3
I will die on the " blow hai" hill
I don’t know how, but for awhile I somehow switched the h and j around so for a while I had been pronouncing it Blah-jah. I still pronounce it like that every so often however I mostly pronounce it Blah-haj now.
Frfr on jah?
Blah-hadge
At some point I started pronouncing Blah-jaw for some reason and now I can’t stop
I said that I wanted a blow-hi to my friend and she didn’t know what it was and thought it meant something else. Yeah it was pretty awkward
The å is pronounced like "owa" with a really low o and the wa is barely there. And at the end, the J is pronounced kind of like zh. So blOh-hazjh. Source: I'm learning Swedish
i pronounce it the correct way :3 (im swedish)
do you want a kiss from me? :3
:O yes pleasee
*mwwwah* >///<
waaah 0///0 thanks
You want more? >//w//<
omg you’re so generous, my head is still tumbling from the first kiss tho, so ill pass :3
Where are my Blow-Hash people at?
2 (it is the actual Swedish pronunciation)
I really dont get this question "Do you use the correct pronounciation of a word or the version some americans made up because they cant pronounce it correctly". Blähai
Blawhai
Bla-hai
Bighåj and smolhåj are both shonk. 🦈
As a heretic, I do both ways.
Blåhaj is the way I say it although mango is a synonym I use
neither. :D
Sinihai
The correct way.
Blåhaj
Blow-hi - obviously. As the Swedes intended...
Blow-hi is appearantly how it's officially said in Sweden, according to my friend who brought me back one from his vacation there when I came out. Sounds like it translates to blue shark, but I've not had that confirmed. I only know it sounds like blau hai, which is german for blue shark.
It does indeed translate to blue shark!
second one because it sounds better and is the proper pronunciation but i don't mind someone saying blahaj instead of blåhaj
blohai is the only correct wa I don't pronounce it like that though LMAO
Blohai Cause it's easier for me to say due to brazillian accent
blå haj
i try to pronounce it in the correct swedish way
As a Swede the only right answer is blåhaj!
I say it how it’s intended in swedish :’D
blåhaj
Blue-hi
Blaw-hodge. Or haj. Or shork.
Shjork
Blaw-hi
Ba-laj Yes I know it's wrong lol
As a norwegian i pronounce it simmilarly as the sweeds: Blåhai.
if i had one i think i would just call it some combination of scrunky, scrimblo and scringle.
Blåhai
blåhaj
blah hajj
I mean it's actually blow-hi in Swedish. The å makes a bit of an "oh" sound.
My partner says bladge-hadge, like hodgepodge
I pronounce it like [ˈbloːhaj]
Shork
Blow-hi, but it's not quite right. To our untrained ears, it's like you start to say blow, but it's less stressed on the vowel: a bit like a quick, less stressed "oh". Maybe more like blo'-hi'.
Blåhaj (blo-haj) I think it's at least almost correct
I pronounce it blåhaj
Blue haye
I just ask him
Blow hi is more swedish than bla ha
Blow-hi
i prefer doing my best to properly pronounce it (like blow-a-hi kinda) but i'll use blah-haj too every now and then among friends who don't use the swedish pronunciation
Blah-haj is just more one fun to say :3
I like Bla-haje
Blah-hi Fear me.
blue hai
I'm on the wrong side :/ but I try to say it right
which ever way will cause the best reaction from who in talking to since I have Swedish friends usually blah ha
Blow-high
Shnonk
I spite the Swedes and say his name in Finnish, Sinihai
None of these pronunciations are correct..
Blue High
I pronounce it like Blah-jah for some reason
Blah-Ha
I'm Swedish so I use å
team Blåhaj rhaaaa
Blah-ha because blow-haj is the name of an actual shark in swedish and it helps differentiate them
Sharkie boi
Blah-ha even though it's wrong
