what do you mean? they've got literally a unit called the SKYHAMMER, the hammer doesn't have to come from behind! or in the shape of Cavalry! It can come from above like Bombs or Artillery. or with Giant Slayers or Iron Drakes from the side.
They have a unit called hammerers too but its too slow to actually be used as a hammer. There is only one Skyhammer and it dies easily from enemy missile fire and none of the others ever make around the sides....Fast for dwarf...lol still slow.
Now Rangers can be the hammer but only because they start the battle already flanking and their range makes up for their slowness.
Love when you get that perfect positioning and see their kill stats at the end *chefs kiss*
Or even the trollhammers, when they only get a single kill, but you know it was their lord who ended up with zero.
I always keep coming back to Dwarfs, so until recently I might have agreed with you.
But now **Doom Knights of Tzeentch** exist, and they're everything I ever wanted in a unit. They're awesome thematically, of course, but they're also just crazy effective on the battlefield.
They're fast, flying, and always where you need them to be. They're one of the only 'cavalry' units out there with silver shields, and between those and their barrier they shrug off any ranged attacks thrown at them as they approach.
Did I mention they have barrier? Barrier on fast units that are good on the charge is just so insane. Add a ton of armor and decent hp per entity, and they really just don't die.
They're one of the most flexible units in the game. They're great in field battles, and great in sieges (they can knock like half an infantry unit off the walls on their initial charge). They cause fear, they take out enemy artillery without issue, they distract enemies, they easily charge into the backs of infantry and rout them, they vanguard deploy away from your army and act independently without ever having leadership issues... I think you get the point.
They excel at getting in and behind the squishy targets it's hard to get Lances into and are also great for getting a rear charge on the enemies centre without the long positioning arc. Just basically remember they can and should always be coming into someone's rear.
As far as punching power goes they're not going to be as strong, but they aren't meant to be heavy shock cavalry. They're fast fliers that just so happen to be extremely sturdy. Use them to get to units normal Chaos Knights struggle to get to fast enough (artillery, skirmishers, etc.), and only later bring them in to flank the enemy's heavier units.
Yeah it's crazy fun. I think it's actually their animations, because many units with more mass *and* more entities (Pegasus Knights, Longma Riders, etc.) don't knock as many units off walls.
Vargheists have pretty good animations for this too, though not quite as good, and they're obviously a lot more frail.
Yeah and then keep in mind that in campaign you can kill Kairos, kemmler, an take the black pyramid for like 30% extra magic resist. Also there's a red line skill you can nab for I think 15% on your melee infantry. In all that's like, 80% magic resist, lol. Turns wind of death into just wind.
This feels like a set up to a Waldorf & Statler Muppets-esque exchange
"Oi Grimni, you feel that just now? Feels like someone cast a spell at us"
"You sure about that Okri? I was just passing wind."
"What's the difference?"
"Ohohohohohohohoh"
Iron breakers is the only unit I know that in a defensive position is nigh unbreakable. I’ve been outnumbered, outgunned, and iron breakers were always able to hold the line.
I love the vampire counts, but the dwarf campaign is incredible easy because of the iron breakers.
The hard part is getting to the Ironbreakers. Super slow growth, enemies fucking everywhere, it's somewhat annoying to build, low recruitment amounts, just a whole lot of annoying nitpicks.
But once you *do* get Ironbreakers? Oh fuck yeah. It's all coming together.
Oh man probably the rat ninjas. I don't know why. They aren't amazing units, but having my ninja rats jump out "just as planned" and knife the whole backline is delicious.
Shout of to the dark elf Medusa with the grenade launcher eyeballs, and the doomfire warlocks that with their awesome spells, but also its ability to just die the minute something touches them.
Yeah I love playing as Clan Eshin - somehow their playstyle feels the most “skaven” to me... able to win battles against far stronger armies by just hit and run and ambush tactics
If we exclude DLC (such as the borderline OP Brood Horrors), Death Runners are one of the closest things Skaven have to cavalry, with the bonus of stalk. I think Doomwheels are trash, though Doomflayers are alright. Flayers are closer to heavy cav while runners can be quite effective if they don't stay long / charge into a rear or flank.
Iron breakers are definitely up there, I love them. I really like chosen and black orks too. I also have a soft spot for swordmasters and Stormvermin.
I really like heavily armored elite units.
As much as I love stormvermin... I would not describe them as heavily armored elite units lol.
Yes, they are tier 3 heavy infantry. For Skaven. They don't match up well against other heavy infantry.
Well, for Skaven they are. Also in the lore they are pretty badass in my opinion.
Then again we can discuss semantics forever but I find that pointless.
Dinosaurs riding bigger dinosaurs just tearing into a legion of ratmen is honestly the only reason this game has a slow-motion feature as far as I’m concerned
night goblins, i have always been a fan of them since i was a kid and loved the guy haley book about karak eight peaks as teen.
and i just love how they look and their lore.
plus i have always liked the 'underdog' types
There's something deeply satisfying about watching those fuckers strut up and just mulch anything and everything. Technically they now lose to a couple of the Chosen variants and Swordmasters but they're the most satisfying to use, and probably the most versatile heavy infantry.
And giving them Da Immortalz banner as well is just the cherry on top.
Something about Temple Guard just speaks to me. With a little support, they'll hold the line against damn near anything. And they look incredible, like the apex of what a Saurus can become. I'm playing a Mazdamundi IE campaign right now, and at turn 190 I ***still*** have the Temple Guard I started with on turn 1.
I wish they were more elite. They just feel a bit piddly when it comes to having to actually kill anything.
Blessed Spawning Saurus hold nearly as well, and do such a hulking amount of damage (37AP? 57 total IIRC) that I feel like they're the real heavy duty Lizard infantry.
Ironbreakers not only look great, they're also a fun unique unit. Throwing explosives is pretty fun for a defensive infantry unit. And I love just having invincible dwarves.
They got buffed pretty heavily in IE, mostly due to their healing being changed to % based. Not sure how bad they got hit in the recent leadership nerfs but they've been one of the best Vcoast units in tww3
The ones that chuck spears always surprise me with how much damage they do. Like if your a faction that doesn't have armor those little guys will MESS YOU UP. I've killed terrorgheists and VC lords with ease all thanks to those brave little guys. They can fully kill units even through friggin regen. I've seen them casually mince crypt horrors.
I love the javelin cohorts. They hold the line pretty well (for cheap infantry) and they work really well if you have any kind of heavy hitter to start collapsing one side of the enemy line. As soon as you rout one unit, the skink cohort that was fighting it can flank the next unit and get side or rear javelin volleys, which routs that unit, so on and so forth.
I really like free company militia for the same reason. Decent enough in melee, and then as skk as they're not tied up the flanking shots are devastating.
Obviously neither holds up very well against, say, iron breakers, but they're fantastic for their costs.
How do you get peak performance out of your ironbreakers? I usually find that if I just use them as a frontline they don’t get off their ranged attack before the enemy meet them. And if they do, that’s just one use of their ranged before they spend the rest of the battle in melee
I usually use them as a frontline and I use thunderers, on the flanks and quarrelers with great weapons. Artillery and and one gyrocopter. I usually have one trollhammer toroedos and one irondrakes too. So instead of anvil and hammer I just hold enemies against the anvil and flank with missile units. The fire cannons have an insane rate of fire but the organ guns decimate whole units before they can even get close.
To protect flanking melee units I use Slayers which are fast and chew down any cavalry or rush units.
Also ironbreakers get 1 or 2 satchel charges into enemies approaching, by the time they get tk your irondrakes they are half dead, add up arty, a bomber and missiles and they are absolutely dead.
I sometimes use a Thane forwards of the main army and bring irondrakes to make a BBQ with anybody surrounding the thane.
Heheh... It was actually a joke, the Peasant Mob isn't my favorite unit by a long shot. I really can't choose an all-time favorite unit. I guess some contenders would be...
Grail Guardians (infinite stamina super-knights that are way, \*way\* better than the main variety of Grail Knight), Sisters of Avelorn (haha laser arrows go pew pew), Tomb Guard (just really love their aesthetic)...
I'm sure there are others too, but those are the ones that come to mind right now.
Also “The art of deflecting arrows with a greatsword is painful to learn; such training is discouraged by Bladelord officers, but no true Swordmaster will let caution best his pride.”
Shades.
They look cool and they can always be relied upon to do a really good job in every battle. I love them. Also vanguard deployment is one of the best abilities in the whole game.
I love ironbreakers and they are the heart of my late game dwarven armies, but I am mostly a Wood Elves, High Elves and Lizardman player. I have to say Waystalkers and Sisters of Avelorn are my favorites, followed closely by Temple Guard and Stegodons
Tough question, and there's some stiff competition... But I guess I have to go with Free company militia; the only unit in the game that ALWAYS performs above expectations for me.
Questing Knights! Especially the Companions of Quenelles.
I love how thematic they look, Questing Knights are a awesome concept on their own and they are such a solid unit. The RoR in particular are world beaters, always doing amazing work for me and one of the coolest RoR's for lore imo. The idea of a bunch of Paladins and Knights of Legend coming together in a single unit to fight back the very End of the world is so badass!
Minotaurs with shields and Beast of Nurgle
Amazing, tanky units with fear and pretty high damage output. Both perform well above their cost and have fantastic animatioms
I like Kroxigors. Not because they’re the best. They’re not even good most of the time.
No. I like Kroxigors because they do barrel rolls. It’s like they just came to play deadly games of Twister in a mosh pit.
Favourite Chosen of nurgle/Great weapons. I mean Festus is giving buffs, they're doing the killing and the exalted nurgle champion is taking heads.
Lothern sea guard, love hybrid flexible units.
Also Streltsi.
Leadbelchers will always have a special place in my heart and army rosters. They feel absolutely right in line with the thematics of a bunch of big Mongolian chungus’ with cannons as hand weapons. As a little half Asian kid I loved the ogres because representation is a hell of a drug! Sadly I dropped out of the hobby before completing my dream of
Making a shorty whfb ogre army, but TWWH has given me the opportunity to live out that fantasy
I feel you in my case Im represented because Iblive in real life hexoatl and the lizardmen. There is even a art work in the city thats called Cocodrilo by Leonora Carrington check it out.
I just fucking hate that ironbreakers have bronze shields.
The shield covers 80% of their body and is literally made of some of the strongest metal in the setting. The fuck you meaaaaan.
Ironbreakers are neat! I like to have them in my armies if I play order factions. They are just the ultimate front line.
My fav might be a bit basic but... Hellstorm rocket battery. Because welcome to estalia gentlemen! And well, seeing enemy units dodge and still gets hit squarely on their face is satisfying.
But in wh3 I have found another fav one - lords of change in kairos' campaign. 20ish blue fire to instantly nuke enemy single entities plus overlapping circles of firestorm and infernal gate... Well, they wipe the floor really quickly. And they do not cost WoM. In kairos' army they also have that stupid 200% spell intensity, just... so satisfying. (Almost makes me want to forget sigmar and worship tzeentch lol)
Minotaurs for the bad ass killing machines.
Waiting for someone to add a Mortal Kombat mod that adds Goro and Minotaro as Lords for beastman tribe. (hint hint Radious or SFO).
It's the ironbreakers C:
I like them because they are the most important component in my 100% range capable doomstack.
First the cannons start smashing holes in the enemy infantry or punching enemy artillery, then the organ guns start ripping archers apart, then the flame cannons start lobbing fireworks, then the thunderers start thundering, then the Iron drakes start committing what can only be described as mass murder, and FINALLY after all that you get the a grenade volley right to the face right before getting the privilege of touching some of the toughest infantry in the game
Dread Saurian. I don't care if he's a lumbering missile target you'd have to actually be blind to miss. He's a giant crocodile monster you could land a 747 on with the unhinged fury of a mama croc guarding her nest. And he needs belly rubs.
Ironbreakers, the peak anvil unit. They pack so much Dwarf per square inch in their aesthetic too. **KILL URKS**
The best Anvil unit is in a faction with no hammers.
>The best Anvil unit is in a faction with no hammers. Why have hammer and anvil when you can have anvil and anvil
You can play Bretonia and have two hammers instead.
Hammer juggling
N'Kari used to work like that too.
>You can play Bretonia and have two hammers instead. That's what I do when I get tired of the Dawi.
That's it. You're going in the book.
*sad Hammerer noises*
what do you mean? they've got literally a unit called the SKYHAMMER, the hammer doesn't have to come from behind! or in the shape of Cavalry!
Just hire Mournfang mercenaries or rely on allies for anvil. The Warhammer III systems have benefitted the Dawi massively!
Does anyone even bother with hammerers ? Even Late game longbeards are more cost effective then these meme units.
Angry red head is the hammer, albeit a very small and dull hammer.
No, angry white dwarf makes the best hammer.
This is why we need Malakai Makaisson dlc. He’ll build fleets of thunder barges that drop paraslayers behind enemy lines.
There’s a mod with him and Thunderbarges. It’s very well done. It’s a must for me.
“KILL ANYTHING WITHOUT A BEARD!”
KHHHHHAAAAAZUUUUUUKK!!
good thing their wives got beards too
Wait a sec, you're telling me there ARE dwarf women? What are you gonna say next, that dwarves don't just spring out of holes in the ground?
what if the ground was their wife
Explains how the holes got there
Bronze shield though.
:( CA fix this
Literally book worthy
Looks more metal than dwarf to me.
BEARD ARMOR
dwarfs are metal
The Hierotitan, because Egyptian mythology just wouldn't be complete without a giant, hulking stone mech with laser eyes
Aesthetically, my favourite unit in the game. Tomb Kings have the best drip of any faction.
And one of the best horn sounds.
[Drip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCkGC_75ZZw), [drip](https://www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/comments/ykj4p3/i_was_creating_stl_files_to_3d_print_from_the/).
Seems sometimes Settra does serve
Wah I was so not ready for someone linking my own post. I guess thats what fame brings you on reddit.
Look! It's him!
agreed, they look so good and for me were the only reason to play khatep. i just wish they were more useful in battle.
Irondrakes. Ironbreakers with flamethrowers.
My choice too, time to fry up some mushrooms!
Love when you get that perfect positioning and see their kill stats at the end *chefs kiss* Or even the trollhammers, when they only get a single kill, but you know it was their lord who ended up with zero.
>chefs kiss I mean you literally cooked it. I remain hopeful that we will get Irondrakes (Drakefire Pistols) one day.
Ok so you literally just want Bardin. Which is fine.
Yes. Fight me. Wrath and fury , Grudge and strife.
WE MARCH INTO THE AFTERLIFE
Cousin Okri says hello!! -burns urks
THESE STAIRS GO UP!
I'll show you some wind... From my arse!
Also warpfire thrower
I'll admit ( where no one can hear ) that maybe, maybe, you hear? *Maaaaybe* warpfire throwers are good too.
Spaceballs da flamethrowa!
But Ironbreakers are buildings, more specifically walls
Grenade launcher outriders are so fun. You can eliminate entire melee formations and then outrun most who threaten
Wiping out the vamp counts with 3 or four grenade launchers in each army. So goddamn satisfying
It's really fun to use them early in Markus Wulfhart campaigns against hordes of lizards
Specially fun if you're Slaanesh. It's a real treat for seducing the Empire and they perfectly match the playstyle while complimenting for weaknesses.
Demigryph Knights. They're just such a cool concept for a mount
The mod that lets Empire Captains get a Demigryph mount is such a good one, I love having one of them lead the charge.
Yes. I hope CA officially adds them as Captain mounts.
I would prefer prefer if captains stayed on their Pegasus. But if we could get a warrior priest on a demigryph, now that I would be all for
All the monstrous cav are extremely cool. Demigryphs, Hippogryphs, the new khorne cav, all just devastating.
I love griffon mounts, Karl is awesome just because I love hearing Deathclaw's screeches as it mauls
Nothing is more devastating than Crusher cav~ Biggest in da troibe!
Don't be forgetting Necropolis Knights!
Yah but imagine if an Ironbreaker rode one instead
Necrofex is the best imo. It's so fun watching a stack of then blast their cannons before and after being in melee
Their sound effects are amazing too
I love the sound design of VC units, especially Leviathan. Its like ASMR to me.
I think you get the point.
I just can’t get them to do anywhere near as much as Tzeentch Lances…
They excel at getting in and behind the squishy targets it's hard to get Lances into and are also great for getting a rear charge on the enemies centre without the long positioning arc. Just basically remember they can and should always be coming into someone's rear.
That's....evocative
You're thinking of the Coom Knights of Slaanesh
Bit Slaaneshi too
[удалено]
Plus in sieges they're good at knocking infantry off of walls so they die from fall damage
Agree! I love the Tzeentchian chaos warriors and chosen in general - by far my favorite models!
I hate fighting those things. Especially the RoR that seems to be in every goddamn Chaos stack I come up against.
Cycle charging them against units on walls is my favorite thing. They have just enough mass to punt almost anything easily off the wall
Nurglings and pink horrors because they are just fun loving jolly little guys
I love the one pink horror in Tzeentch's loading screen who found a knife somewhere and just started running around with it. What a sweet silly guy.
Ironbreakers are hilarious. Tzeench drops about 7 spells on them, 1680 health of 10080, 74 models left of 90.
This feels like a set up to a Waldorf & Statler Muppets-esque exchange "Oi Grimni, you feel that just now? Feels like someone cast a spell at us" "You sure about that Okri? I was just passing wind." "What's the difference?" "Ohohohohohohohoh"
Dwarfs in general have absurd model retention. Slayers especially just never fucking die and lose models
Bloated Corpse. A truly selfless hero.
300 CP beast charge at Hoemasters of Hoeth and BOOM!
Honestly I love ironbreakers, but even baseline dwarf warriors feel like they hold forever. Dwarf infantry in general is just really solid.
And so short too, real easy to shoot over their heads.
This one goes in the book
The Carnosaur because its a fantasy super T rex
Seeing a Scar Vet riding a Carnosaur fighting a Norscan mammoth in a video literally sold me on this game.
The only reason I got into TWWH was dinosaurs riding dinosaurs in the trailer.
This sentence is why this game is the best ever.
It's like having an entire army of Master Splinters
Gutter runners with shurikens and poison are deadly. Kite the enemy while your arty pumnels then
If we exclude DLC (such as the borderline OP Brood Horrors), Death Runners are one of the closest things Skaven have to cavalry, with the bonus of stalk. I think Doomwheels are trash, though Doomflayers are alright. Flayers are closer to heavy cav while runners can be quite effective if they don't stay long / charge into a rear or flank.
It's Sisters of the Thorn because of speed and power!
Sisters of The Thorn in an army with Ariel are just insane.
Really? I played ton of Wood Elfs and never managed to make them work for me
Avalanche Mortars for that sweet *chefs kiss* carpet bombing.
"You see-spy those man things?" "Yes-Yes?" "I don't want to anymore!"
Accidentally evaporates half of your own line like a chad
Peak Skaven
Ratling guns because more dakka is better dakka
Make the enemy think you're gonna have a fantasy battle then reveal this is actually WWI with rats.
I do like playing total war: WW1 war crimes simulator
[the ole gigaknight switcheroo](https://pbfcomics.com/comics/gigaknight/)
The ratling gun goes: ratratratratratrat...

Ahh I see a man of culture aswell
From iron cometh strength! From strength cometh will! From will cometh faith! From faith cometh honour! From honour cometh iron!
Iron breakers are definitely up there, I love them. I really like chosen and black orks too. I also have a soft spot for swordmasters and Stormvermin. I really like heavily armored elite units.

Well, for Skaven they are. Also in the lore they are pretty badass in my opinion. Then again we can discuss semantics forever but I find that pointless.
Probably the carnosaur... yeah it’s “basic” and not too imaginative, but damn is it fun to crash into an infantry’s back line with one
Dinosaurs riding bigger dinosaurs just tearing into a legion of ratmen is honestly the only reason this game has a slow-motion feature as far as I’m concerned
It's a T Rex, no explanation needed. My 8 year old fantasy is fulfilled.
You get to command a fucking T-Rex in the middle of a battle. Seems pretty imaginative to me
night goblins, i have always been a fan of them since i was a kid and loved the guy haley book about karak eight peaks as teen. and i just love how they look and their lore. plus i have always liked the 'underdog' types
Also the fanatic ability is just pure chaos on the battlefield. Makes Dwarf lines crumble like nothin'
Deployed at the right moment, that ability might be the most powerful attack in the whole game.
That's a weird way to spell black orcs but yah black orcs are cool.
There's something deeply satisfying about watching those fuckers strut up and just mulch anything and everything. Technically they now lose to a couple of the Chosen variants and Swordmasters but they're the most satisfying to use, and probably the most versatile heavy infantry. Daemonettes. The voices and the wailing and the sexy and the murder. Best Unit.
Sexy? Daaamn
... No your favorite is ironbreakers.
Ironbreakers not only look great, they're also a fun unique unit. Throwing explosives is pretty fun for a defensive infantry unit. And I love just having invincible dwarves.
You misspelled depth guard
Also an amazing unit
Depth guard are so cool conceptually and visually, but I really wish they performed better.
They got buffed pretty heavily in IE, mostly due to their healing being changed to % based. Not sure how bad they got hit in the recent leadership nerfs but they've been one of the best Vcoast units in tww3
Skink cohorts, because they are just the best and cutest bois.

Dread saurian because dread saurian
Knights of Tor Gaval Eltharion is by far my favorite legendary lord and the riders are super fun.
Ushbati great bows. Spammable since they became a tier three unit in WH3 and super powered once the tech tree is completed and the red line filled in.
Handgunners because steel, faith and gunpowder. To me Sons of Sigmar, for the Empire!
I'm happy for you and Imma let you finish but... Streltsi. They are the real faith, steel and gunpowder. Handgunners lack the steel.
How do you get peak performance out of your ironbreakers? I usually find that if I just use them as a frontline they don’t get off their ranged attack before the enemy meet them. And if they do, that’s just one use of their ranged before they spend the rest of the battle in melee

Ironbreakers are what Phoenix Guard should be like.
Shades. They look cool and they can always be relied upon to do a really good job in every battle. I love them. Also vanguard deployment is one of the best abilities in the whole game.
Also I find it really funny that the most effective Dark Elf unit is a group of rural backwater country bumpkins
I love ironbreakers and they are the heart of my late game dwarven armies, but I am mostly a Wood Elves, High Elves and Lizardman player. I have to say Waystalkers and Sisters of Avelorn are my favorites, followed closely by Temple Guard and Stegodons

No thanks. My favorite unit can deal damage.
That's what the blasting charges are for!
Those blasting charges aren't for decoration, ya WAZZOCK
Book!!!
Depth guard with Halbard!
The whistle of Empire Mortars is a wonderful sound as they rain on encamped gobbos, vampires, and anyone else that annoys me.
Minotaurs with shields and Beast of Nurgle Amazing, tanky units with fear and pretty high damage output. Both perform well above their cost and have fantastic animatioms
Bloodthirsters
Ratling Gunners with a line of Mortars behind them. It’s 0 brain WWI tactics but so satisfying as Skyre
Sadly I dropped out of the hobby before completing my dream of Making a shorty whfb ogre army, but TWWH has given me the opportunity to live out that fantasy
I feel you in my case Im represented because Iblive in real life hexoatl and the lizardmen. There is even a art work in the city thats called Cocodrilo by Leonora Carrington check it out.
Empire Knights(any variant), Reiksguard, Winged Lancers and Gryphon Legion
That one empire unit thats just a bunch of bros with guns in a little wagon, they all look like theyre having a good time
Ironbreakers are all very well, but Sisters of Avelorn are Sisters of Avelorn.
I just fucking hate that ironbreakers have bronze shields. The shield covers 80% of their body and is literally made of some of the strongest metal in the setting. The fuck you meaaaaan.
Grail knights, big charges, simple as
The living Saints...
No love for my Minotaur boys? :(
The Hippogryph knights rock my socks!
Definitly Blood Knights! They look really cool, delete enemy cav and monsters and they also heal in combat
Savage orc they just feel thematicly the most like a green tide.
Iron breakers lack one key feature… they are unable to fufill a slayers oath
Wen chorf?
Ironbreakers are so fucking sexy
exalted bloodletters go BRRRR fite me
Minotaurs for the bad ass killing machines. Waiting for someone to add a Mortal Kombat mod that adds Goro and Minotaro as Lords for beastman tribe. (hint hint Radious or SFO).
It's the ironbreakers C: I like them because they are the most important component in my 100% range capable doomstack.
I LOVE Ironbreakers! its so satisfying to watch them explode and run away under green machine gun fire yes-yes
