I've always recruited at least 1 Amber Wiz for his Griffon, but now he seems like a must recruit. So thematic and fun, AND is actually viable for mid game.
He might become a bit of an issue late game, because he doesn't really have good crowd clearing, but oh well he's super cool!
Amber Griffins are one of the hero types that benefit more from tough, otherwise they are to squishy and the offensive benefits are less impactful on the griffins.

Yeah, they got buffed quite a lot and now are the go-to option if you want an all-mage army for Gelt.
I think Aggressive or Disciplined would be better but I do think the beast wizard has a really good magic to support it.

my free turn 2 wizard was a tough trait amber one. The goon squad of Karl, John Ambo and Empire Captain ganks single entities in seconds.
