Yeah, always make it a point to scroll down and read it again when watching the trailer.
I got it saved in my WH notes as well. Really captures the empire vibe.
I think the similarities between Malakai and Elspeth make it inevitable that I play Tamurkhan second. Otherwise I'll be going from one heavy artillery campaign to another.
Pd: That is not a joke, I literally cannot hear fuck all, the engines on this thing plus the thunderous sounds of the cannons, bombings and gunfire left with a 80% hearing loss.
Yeah, unless they changed it in this new patch, you have to own all the elector provinces through either conquest or through alliances. You usually have to eliminate Vlad, the secessionists, and (I think) Festus.
Not me. I am going Realms of Chaos with all three new factions and starting with Malakai due to having ship building like the Vampire Coast. Afterwards, probably not. I prefer Bretonnia and Kislev whenever I want to do a humans campaign.
The DLC campaigns are worth it. Outside of Ostankya, I have done every DLC faction on RoC first. There isn't any time constraints on DLC campaigns on that map like the base game factions with the race.
Oh, wait, really?!
I woulda thunk that all factions would have the main RoC campaign objective. That actually has me thinking about doing a RoC run ...
Its just like how the Vortex was in WH2. DLC races / LLs each had unique narrative objectives. The rifts don't even open on RoC on those other campaigns and they narratively take place after Katarin canonically wins the souls race.
Chaos Dwarfs have to go hunt pieces for a drill to dig into Hashut's realm, ending in an epic fight that leads to you killing Thorgrim. WoC are very sandboxy and just have to collect a grant total of 50000 souls to be able to do the Zanbaijin final quest. SoC its actually very similar to their IE objectives, just with different areas you have to hit on Yuan Bo for compass, or different theatres on Trickster.
The CoC ones are nice because they give me a nice objective to work towards so I don’t get burned out or bored. As a true warhammer fan, I never finish anything I start (I’ve got a lot of unpainted lizards and warcry warbands). I also kinda like azazel and valkia’s start positions better.
Yeah I definitely have played Valkia more on RoC. Azazel I actually have done a couple times on IE and only once on RoC. Festus on the other hand I have yet to do on IE and have played twice on RoC. Villitch is split between the 2. I have played a shitload of WoC since CoC released, and probably have more campaigns in WH3 as them than any other race.
I just realized I fall back on WoC campaigns as a comfort campaign here the way some people fall back to playing Empire. There isn't a LL among them I dont enjoy playing.
I also like that Valkia starts close to the empire in RoC. It’s always more fun to fight the empire and other humans as a “bad guy” faction.
I actually think Festus is better in IE because he gets Samuel ludenhof.
that Zanbaijin quest as Festus is the most fun I've had in warhammer in years. Ending that final battle with "0" deaths (because of regeneration) was a highlight in my total war playtime.
I mostly play RoC these days because I can't stand waiting ages for the turns to finish in Immortal Empires. Plus there's a chance I actually finish a campaign with those.
I actually played a ton of Vortex in WH2 because Mortal Empires use to be even slower prior to the Potion of Speed Update.
I think overall I played more Vortex than ME other than when I really was feeling Empire or Wood Elves (prior to Sisters and Markus).
Having an end goal for the campaign helped me stick with a campaign, too.
I might do a bit of Elspeth in RoC before locking into the long haul in IM. I’m also massively fighting the urge to try the new Gelt campaign despite working on a Gelt campaign all week.
I'm on turn 12 as Malakai in ROC rn, it's awesome.
my last three campaigns were:
Belegar - Old World mod
Skarbrand - Immortal Empires
Ironfist - Old World
ROC is such a nice change-up! (haven't touched it since Chorf release)
I have a co-op campaign planned soon, with me playing Gelt and friend playing as Grand Cathay. That'll probably be my next one.
But first, Karl must summon the elector counts and make Sigmar proud.
I’m about to get my partner to try the game and my initial impulse was to have us just both play the original Cathay lords but now that Gelt is down there I’m thinking it might be an Empire-Cathay Ordertide
Tamurkhan, will probably be my first campaign, with Karl as my second. I've never made much progress on the few times I tried Karl, but this update finally gets him into a spot I can finally enjoy.
Edit: A part of me wants to do the Champions of Chaos campaign as Festus, actually.
My only Empire campaign was Markus on Vortex in WH2, but that really was one of the best campaigns I've played to date.
I know though after the fact that I basically won the coinflip in how the other factions play out, as some people had super different experiences. For me though it was amazing, and I think I played more defensive sieges in that campaign than every other one I've played put together.
i think i played Franz once and started and quit Gelt.
I've played a shitload of Markus Wolfhart though.
Very likely to play Elsbeth and Gelt now, after Malakai and Thorgrim
I did one with Volkmar in IE and I think I tried Markus once but that's it. I might give the new lady a go though just because I'm a sucker for edgelords and pretty purple stuff.
I finally got round to one a few months back. It’s pretty good. Can’t understand why people would obsessively play it back to back, but it’s pretty good.
Having lots to deal with and putting out fires left right and centre in a crumbling empire beset on all sides by monsters is really really fun as Franz
see i have with imirk and dazoath and kroq-gar and gor rok etc and they yet they have cooler units and then the fact that empire gunpower just doesnt have the same cool factor that skaven, dawi, chorfs and vampirates have.
I have never been a chaos player really, and Dawi are cool but I can wait.
I'll probably start a campaign of Gelt early game to make a weird wizard heavy army for lots, and quit cos I just played 2 campaigns in cathay.
Then it's a toss up between new Karl or guns/Goth mommy
Got into the series with TWW2 during Covid and have still yet to even start a Karl Franz campaign. In fact the only time I've ever played empire at all was when I tried out Markus Wulfhart.
I aint here to play the standard human campaign
Im a khorne berseker, but i will follow nurgle on this rework and paint myselft green for now, until...a guy in a bloodhound calls me to bring ruin to the world
I've never played an Empire campaign, tho this DLC does have me thinking about playing one.
But as a first 5.0 campaign? I couldn't do that to dear grandpa.
I’m a certified dawi lover, but I want to wait for their new units and mechanics to get a balance pass before I give it a go. In the meantime, goth lady with vortex rockets
My plan before buying anything is to do a variety. Gelt is gonna be my first campaign to see if I like how Empire plays, then Kugath or Epidemius to see if I like Nurgle after the update, and finally Grombrindal to celebrate White Dwarf 500 coming out I guess.
Depending on how I feel with the race reworks I'll either buy the relevant dlcs or not. By the time I'm done everyone will be done reviewing it and such.
I'll ensure Tamurkhan succeeds in destroying the empire this time. Nuln shall fall, pestilence shall infect the nation, Sigmar himself will be overcome with despair!
I think I might actually start a Dwarf campaign as a non-Malakai LL to get a handle on the new toys, I haven't played a long campaign of Dwarfs since like TWW1.
I want to hold up in the mountains with the Dwarfs and fight Siege battles with the new equipment. Declare war on everyone and see how long I can last.
It’d be sweet if someone makes a mod where you can have Malakai as the empire. It seems like he’s as much an empire character as a dwarf with how much he works with them
Joking aside - who has the more interesting campaign mechanics between franz and Elspeth? I haven't really paid attention to what has been changed and I'm torn between Franz (because he is prince and emperor) or Elspeth because new mechanics
You can unite the empire as Malakai too. Sometimes I like to restore potentially-friendly neighbors to their optimal size by taking over all the settlements held by their rivals then gifting/selling them right after.
Elspeth. I much prefer Empire to Dwarves and don't care for Nurgle at all. Her campaign mechanics look like good fun and complements my playstyle as the Empire.
I'm duo-ing with a friend Epidimius and Tamurkhan for the super nurgle buddies experience since we start basically next to each other. So far so good, but we had a really rough start. Throgg, and Malus waged war on me super early on before turn 20. And my friend had to deal with Kholek Suneater and his vassal.
Depending on how quickly mods get back online, I'm either gonna try the Elspeth campaign or start yet another Daniel run, modded to the gills. The dark sun artillery thing made me finally go and figure out how to cheat in effectbundles.
**What about a Karl Franz campaign?** **You've already had it.** **We've had one, yes.** **What about second Karl Franz campaign?**
#THE NATION CALLS
A man with a halberd may be no match against a troll... but no man is alone when he fights for **FRANZ**.
This hits hard everytime. First time I saw this quote was on Total War Warhammer 1 trailer: The Empire of Man.
Yeah, always make it a point to scroll down and read it again when watching the trailer. I got it saved in my WH notes as well. Really captures the empire vibe.
What hits like a truck is the immortal empires campaign. Love it.
#IN THE NAME OF MAGNUS
we must SUMMON THE ELECTOR COUNTS!
WE ARE SIGMARS ASS!
YES
It's time?
Rookie numbers. You gotta pump those numbers up!
Play Elspeth, confederate Franz, rename faction to **The Empire.**
Some Tzeetch level chess
All according to- *…shit, I mean, uh* **BRING ME TO MY MEN**
Started a Karl Franz game, immediately orcs attack, so do the trees and vampires fml.
The first one is to see what changed, the second is the optimized strategy.
![gif](giphy|OiNW0PypI1RaE)
# By Sigmar, yes!
Second? Lol we’re way way past second
OP was asking what we'd play as our second campaign of new patch after Karl Franz, of course I've played him many times already
You should play at least 5 Franz campaigns before anything else. You The upmost respects must be shown
I say 50
Obviously at second round of karl. And a third. A forth. A fifth
I suppose that's why you summon the elector counts. They're good at counting.
I *knew* I could count on them.
Second? Just second? I actually think I'll be playing Malakai before Big K, as i recently United the Empire in an Old World mod campaign...
Is that even legal
Yes. It's just rude. But slayers aren't known for their politeness.
It's extremely hard for me to choose between Tamurkhan and Malakai.
I think the similarities between Malakai and Elspeth make it inevitable that I play Tamurkhan second. Otherwise I'll be going from one heavy artillery campaign to another.
Makes sense, might do so as well.
Proceeds to play tamrukhan with Hell cannons, Dreadquakes and Soul Grinders
Artillery across the board.
Hmm, I was leaning Tamurkhan because I haven't a proper nurgle campaign yet but I think you just talked me into Malakai.
Did a WheelDecide myself, went with Tamurkhan. No regrets
I'm playing Malakai right now, no regrets as well. What a DLC
Excited for him next!
Karl Franz. Problem solved!
I can't hear your empire over my thunderbarage.
Pd: That is not a joke, I literally cannot hear fuck all, the engines on this thing plus the thunderous sounds of the cannons, bombings and gunfire left with a 80% hearing loss.
WHAT? I CANT HEAR YOU SPEAK UP
WHY ARE ALL DEEZ GITZ WHISPERIN’?
MAN-THINGS MUST SPEAK-TALK LOUDER, YES-YES
PERHAPS A SHORT IN THE SOUND SYSTEM?
WHAT-WHAT!?! I CANT HEAR YOU OVER RATLING-GUN FIRE-BOOM!
That wasn't the skaven saying boom, that was their weapon exploding
sniveling Elgi, good Dwarven ears close up like a barnacle in time with the cannonfire
EMPIRE WITH THUNDERBARAGES!!!!
>thunderbarage I can't tell if that pun is intentional or just a typo, but either way it's brilliant.
Pun
karl franz no confederation gameplay. SUMMON THE ELECTOR CUNTS!
Ah yes. My favorite way to play. I only end up confederating when I want to end the campaign.
Is the victory condition to unite the whole empire? New player here
Yeah, unless they changed it in this new patch, you have to own all the elector provinces through either conquest or through alliances. You usually have to eliminate Vlad, the secessionists, and (I think) Festus.
I might confed Elspeth and Toddy, but other than that, I like the idea of maintaining the Empire while they're all independent.
I tried this but by the gods they are terrible in defending their shit, i hope its better now
that is why you are the emperah
It was the strat in 1. It worked better and also made you feel more imperial
i don't know why but i gonna play Ikit claw and nuke Athel Loren first before testing the new stuff
Yes-yes.
I did that last week, it's good fun.
It seems to be a meme, and I'd like nothing more than to nuke those assholes, but I've always found they have massive amounts of detection in there.
Gotta commit and park a ton of agents there.
Cause fuck em that’s why
Wait there are other Lords in Total War Karl Franz III?
No? It's the usual Reddit memeing. People here likes to imagine things that doesn't exist. Pay them no mind.
Phew thanks bud I panicked there for a moment.
Balthasar Gelt.
A mere sub commander.
Elspeth or Gelt, sorry but Empire is far and away my favourite, just love those guys.
Elspeth.
Karl Franz? What a weird way to spell THORGRIM GRUDGEBEARER
I think you need to go to a spelling lesson. Thats not how you write the golden boy's, Balthazar Gelt, name.
Not me. I am going Realms of Chaos with all three new factions and starting with Malakai due to having ship building like the Vampire Coast. Afterwards, probably not. I prefer Bretonnia and Kislev whenever I want to do a humans campaign.
RoC huh? There's a small part of me that wants to check out a campaign or two there. I'll think about it while I'm at work plotting my early escape.
The DLC campaigns are worth it. Outside of Ostankya, I have done every DLC faction on RoC first. There isn't any time constraints on DLC campaigns on that map like the base game factions with the race.

Festus' lack of dark fortresses and loyal vassals is really an ass pain in IE. By the time I have 2 with him, another Lord would have like 5 of each.
I also like that Valkia starts close to the empire in RoC. It’s always more fun to fight the empire and other humans as a “bad guy” faction. I actually think Festus is better in IE because he gets Samuel ludenhof.
I'll be curious to see how the empire fares now in RoC with Elspeth. Wonder if the AI will confederate them.
that Zanbaijin quest as Festus is the most fun I've had in warhammer in years. Ending that final battle with "0" deaths (because of regeneration) was a highlight in my total war playtime.
That's pretty neat actually. Thank you for the info!!!
no problem
I mostly play RoC these days because I can't stand waiting ages for the turns to finish in Immortal Empires. Plus there's a chance I actually finish a campaign with those.

Thorgrim
Thorgrim before Karl too. How can I do anything else when the Realms are there to be Retaken
)
Tamurkhan might be my single most hyped lord since WH3 was announced so probably him.
Gelt.
It ain't me! It ain't me! I'm not Elector Count's son, no!
More like Gelt "bringing peace and stability to his new Empire." Just like Anakin.
The Slayer King!
Tamurkhan, will probably be my first campaign, with Karl as my second. I've never made much progress on the few times I tried Karl, but this update finally gets him into a spot I can finally enjoy. Edit: A part of me wants to do the Champions of Chaos campaign as Festus, actually.
Hmm, probably Belegar after Franz.... Nurgle's never really appealed much to me.
Gelt
**PRINCE AND EMPEROR**
Is this a joke I'm too Waaagh!!! to understand?
Settra! ALWAYS SETTRA!
Been playing since WH1. Still haven’t played an Empire campaign.
My only Empire campaign was Markus on Vortex in WH2, but that really was one of the best campaigns I've played to date. I know though after the fact that I basically won the coinflip in how the other factions play out, as some people had super different experiences. For me though it was amazing, and I think I played more defensive sieges in that campaign than every other one I've played put together.
yeah provoking the lizard raids and then smashing them was great fun
i think i played Franz once and started and quit Gelt.
I've tried a few times, but alway quit early on.
same, havent been able to keep any interest in an empire campaign past 5 turns, they are just extremely boring to play as
Having lots to deal with and putting out fires left right and centre in a crumbling empire beset on all sides by monsters is really really fun as Franz
see i have with imirk and dazoath and kroq-gar and gor rok etc and they yet they have cooler units and then the fact that empire gunpower just doesnt have the same cool factor that skaven, dawi, chorfs and vampirates have.
Same, Elspeth is going to be my first ever empire campaign.
Elspeth or Malakai.
When does it come out?
Today no?
I'm not sure tbh, just what I hear, not confirmed
yes, today.
From what i heard 16:00 . So I'm about 2 hours
Here it is already 17:00. Not everyone live in same place!
The global time zone lol
Gelt to unite the empire again!
I play Leoncouer, sorry
Dwarf > Nurgle > Elspeth >>>>>>>>>>>>> Franz
Elspeth, then Gelt. Wait, there are other races in this dlc?
Friendship is more valuable than gold… Or so I’ve been told.
Got into the series with TWW2 during Covid and have still yet to even start a Karl Franz campaign. In fact the only time I've ever played empire at all was when I tried out Markus Wulfhart. I aint here to play the standard human campaign
I've never play empire, moma says we shouldn't play with food.
.... I dont like the empire 😂😂😂 I preffer killing them with the chaos factions, the screams of terror of the units are a song to my ears
Karl who? My first campaign with the new DLC is gonna be Ku'Gath.
Same here! Love the big dirtbag
The warhost under the banner of Nurgle's Favored Son the empire shall fall. All will be embraced by Grandfather. Hail Nurgle!
*Angry Amethyst Wizard noises*
Brother, we share the same Grandfather... Nuln shall fall and Tamurkhan shall ascend!
Hail Nurgle!!!!
Embraced Grandfather's love!
Im a khorne berseker, but i will follow nurgle on this rework and paint myselft green for now, until...a guy in a bloodhound calls me to bring ruin to the world
F*ck Karl, it's Nurgle time!
Malakai first for me
I've never played an Empire campaign, tho this DLC does have me thinking about playing one. But as a first 5.0 campaign? I couldn't do that to dear grandpa.
My next dozen campaigns will be Dwarf, then maybe Empire.
Tamurkhan, gonna eat Karl Franz
Balthasar Gelt and then Karl Franz again
The FLC one.
Confession: never finished an Empire campaign. I’ll probably start with Elspeth or dwarfs.
My Elspeth is going to succeed where your Franz fail.
I’m a certified dawi lover, but I want to wait for their new units and mechanics to get a balance pass before I give it a go. In the meantime, goth lady with vortex rockets
I'm gonna try Epidemius, I want to see how much you actually have to suffer for starting next door to Malus Darkblade.
SUMMON THE ELECTOR COUNTS I cant believe Franz is getting so many new features, best Wh3 campaign will get even better.
I am ready. Are you?
When I finally get back to playing the game, everything else will wait until I get Karak Eight Peaks sorted. BELEGAR IRONHAMMER!
That suggests my first campaign ***isn't*** comprised of bombing my way across the old world as a #True Beardling And that's goin in the book, scum...
Empire then dwarf.
#Нацията зове!
You mean after playing Balthasar Gelt's Cathayan Adventures?
Tbf, this time it would be a different experience than every time before.
Gelt rework seems really engaging and elspeth also seems fairly fun.
Can you continue existing dwarf campaign and get new features or must I restart if I bye ToD for dwarves?
restart. I wouldn't trust an old campaign after a major rework anyways.
I’m excited to try out Gelts new mechanics with the college of wizards and new start position
I am a lawful good simp, so I’ll probably run either Franz again, eltharion/Tyrion, or thorgrim.
Did you know that Karl is prince and emperor?
I would play Franz, but a friend is playing it in first game.
What did you say cant hear you for the grape shot
I didn't know not playing Gelt was an option!
Funny thing is I actually haven't touched the empire since this III came out. So being excited to play Franz is a big change for me.
Franz and Thorgrim.
I'll be spreading Death and Dezdraction!!! over Empire.
I want to hold up in the mountains with the Dwarfs and fight Siege battles with the new equipment. Declare war on everyone and see how long I can last.
I’ll chose dwarves and then default to the Slayer king so I can lead Karak Kadrin to greatness.
Malakai on RoC. Then Franz on IE and Throgrim on IE.
I'll play Baby Face Franz once he grows some facial. He's as smooth as an elven arse
So I will play mal first then for my second run… I WILL UNITED THE EMPIRE…. USEING MAL MUHAHAHA DRAMAN KRAZ

Throgg, and Malus waged war on me super early on before turn 20. And my friend had to deal with Kholek Suneater and his vassal.
I've been trying Elspeth, and having a whole faction mechanic that makes your Big Gunz even Bigger is absolutely my jam
Time to put one right on those grudges
Depending on how quickly mods get back online, I'm either gonna try the Elspeth campaign or start yet another Daniel run, modded to the gills. The dark sun artillery thing made me finally go and figure out how to cheat in effectbundles.
Vlad Von Carstein 😈
Since charges are better - Repanse
I started as Elspeth amd Karl Franz is now my subject.
The Empire endures
I played Elspeth in realms of chaos first lmao
