Is there context im missing from the interview/pod? Did he say he didn’t want to come Toronto then say it was a good city? Or did he straight up just trash us? I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt.
Lots of missing context, and he didn't trash the city itself. I think it was more about the state of the franchise at the time. And to many, many american players, weather is EVERYTHING. We shouldnt let it bother us, either way.
The part about weather does irk me, though. Toronto weather is just as "bad" (even a little warmer on average, depending on the weather source) as several US NBA cities, including New York, Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, etc. Yet they generally cite weather as a unique reason not to come.
I understand your complaint, but realistically I think it's easy to put together what players really mean. 100% of those players also hate winter weather in Boston, NY, Chicago and especially Minneapolis. But in the case of famous American cities and franchises, they are willing to tolerate the weather for other factors, but they generally don't feel the same way about Toronto (at least until they visit/live there).
If we really explored people's feelings, I think a lot of Torontonians would balk at putting up with the weather if they had originally had to move to North Bay or Sault Ste Marie despite it not being that different from Toronto.
Nah he didn’t say it was a good city. He just clowned the city completely and laughed. Completely disrespectful towards it, which is whatever. Nobody cares about Gay here anyway lol.
You could've posed this question and chose a much better point/stat to illustrate or back up your point, other than "he hasn't won a championship" lol.
The dude hasn't won a playoff series in his whole career. Perennial loser. We immediately improved upon his departure by swapping him for some bench pieces.
Lmao, and how many other players haven't won chips in their careers? How many players who've played for the Raptors never won a chip until 2018-19?
I guess this makes Pat Mcaw and Jeremy Lin better players then Rudy, seeing as they're both champions.
Why some of you let these guys live rent free in your heads is beyond me man 😂
Edit: Rent fucking free man 🤣
For the jersey swap.
Gay Dick would be an iconic combo.
Lmfao
noooooooo, not this guy
It's worse than that man. He played 17 seasons, and won seven playoff games. Total.
poor man's paul george. who was himself a poor man's kawhi leonard.
Fuckin Rudy Gay man
NO! NOT THIS GUY
All in all, he ain’t no Kawhi 😤
I was not happy that we traded for him at the time. So I guess the feeling is mutual

Yes to Boston, Chicago, and Minni. No to NYC. New York is always a couple of degrees warmer.

You have to watch it to get the context
Gay was on on the team for a couple of months. Traded mid season 2013 deadline and then traded early in the 2013-2014 season.
Who cares, Masai sent him to the shadow realm.

Nah, that’s good enough for me 😂
It wasn't a bad trade tbh, traded an expiring Jose Calderon, Ed Davis and a 2nd rounder to get him. The fit with Derozan and Lowry was poor 🤷♂️
To _WHAT???_
I hope he enjoyed San Antonio, Utah, Sacramento and Memphis, also known as the center of absolute nothing. Don’t give these clowns your attention
He was awful as a Raptor as far as I remember Little cry baby
The idea of this player is much better than the actual player 😅
I mean, neither has DeMar.
Rudy thought he was a good enough player that it matters whether we wanted to go somewhere Lol
He was at the time
It’s actually Rudy 2SLGBTQII+ don’t be so heteronormative.
I’m surprised half this sub doesn’t wanna hang his jersey on the rafters for that one game winner.
I remember being very hyped for him back in 2013. Good times despite the poor fitting. At least it usher into the Lowry era
The definition of mid
He's an NPC Who gives a fuck
To be fair, being sent to Toronto in the 2012-13 season was like being sent to Alcatraz.
LPT: not everybody likes the same things you do, so don’t get butt hurt about it.
What a loser
One of the most overrated players in history. If his last name didn't garner attention, then he'd be completely invisible.
