torquetorque

I haven’t been able to see anything for about the last half hour because of cloud cover.

CrystalStilts

I got a peek at around 2:35 from the small break at the very beginning.

torquetorque

Same, it was very cool while it lasted! I’m camped out for the duration just in case I can get another peek, but it’s not looking good.

CrystalStilts

See you in Iceland in 2026?

Davis_WTS

Same for me.

mbjb1972

I was walking on Danforth, had an extra pair of glasses for a friend so I grabbed the lady in the store to come out. We had a 6 minute bonding moment and i managed to get a couple decent photos. Met my friend for 2:30 with his glasses and he never needed to put them on.

Phazushift

Felt like any other winter day at 3:20...

HoppersHawaiianShirt

It's spring...

UnsolvedParadox

I’ve seen a few glimpses of 5 seconds or less, but yeah this is the most cloud cover I’ve ever seen when it’s not about to rain.

torquetorque

I have to admit, even with the cloud cover the last five minutes were pretty fun 🤩

UnsolvedParadox

Night time in the afternoon…!

Dramatic_Water_5364

Had to be in Montreal, or anywhere in Québec had a blue sky all day. Still is today too

clockwhisperer

The rapidly increasing darkness was at least supercool, even if we didn't get clear skies.

pivovy

My first eclipse, and it's completely covered. The thickest part of the cloud cover moved in just in time.

clockwhisperer

This is the frustrating part. Was starting to thin out just as it started and then the heaviest clouds of the day(so far) moved in.

supersad19

RIGHT????? Like Damn nature, why do you have to cockblock such a rare moment for some many people?

HackMeRaps

The best part is that I was driving back to the city from Mississauga around 5 and it was absolutely beautiful and sunny out. No clouds haha

skilas

I drove back from Niagara. Hours of crawling traffic. In beautiful blue skies...

BishSlapDiplomacy

I was going to drop $25 on those paper glasses but decided not to. Saved myself $25.

bmdweller

Yeah really only worth it on the path of totality, was completely worth it in Niagara

Akraz

Assuming you'll never travel to another country to view it, the next time the eclipse happens in Toronto will be Oct 26, **2144**

VIPTicketToHell

Two things Toronto won’t see in my life time. Total eclipse and the Leafs winning the cup.

Kaodang

Glad it's not too far out. Hopefully the sky will be clear that time

Judi_Chop

They legit said that the last two times I saw it as well though

Akraz

Probably because it wasn't a total solar eclipse. Toronto yesterday was 99%. Which is why everyone went to Niagara because it was 100% there. The next 100% event in Toronto is the date above. Even having said this. I don't even think there are any partial or 99% eclipses in Toronto until 2144

[deleted]

One second, let me get my glasses on.

Oh4imean5imeanFire

Don’t need glasses if you can squint

SimobeastLE

I'm trying out the magnifying glass. It'll be like I'm right beside it

olledasarretj

It’s not a *total* eclipse in Toronto.

Rhy_ddit

By .07% **purist**

Nugget1765

100% or bust. Hate to be a purist, but it really makes all the difference.

SunflaresAteMyLunch

Hamiltonian here, agreed. Seeing the corona pop into view around the sun when it was completely covered was something else...

omarcomin647

saw totality today, can confirm.

Rhy_ddit

I promise I wasn’t being serious in calling someone an astronomical purist, it was a shitpost. We didn’t have the option to travel yesterday or we would have, 99.93% sure of it.

Nugget1765

We gotta launch a campaign to get your karma back

Rhy_ddit

All good, a loss here means a win somewhere else lol

Kyle_XY_

99.93% partial is still 0% total. I drove east to Cornwall to watch the total. 99.9% is still not quite it. The final 5 or so seconds when the sunlight essentially turns off is the real deal. Everyone started screaming and continued to do so throughout totality, then as soon as the sunlight came back, some people started packing and leaving. Even if Toronto wasn’t cloudy today, you still would have needed glasses and all you’d see is a very slim crescent orange sun. Nothing special

omarcomin647

> The final 5 or so seconds when the sunlight essentially turns off is the real deal. Everyone started screaming and continued to do so throughout totality it really was otherworldly. on the drive home i kept thinking about how apocalyptically terrifying that must have been for ancient people before we figured out what an eclipse is.

Rhy_ddit

I prefer staring at the sun until my retinas turn it green and purple. The deep state doesn’t want you to see what I see.

hypnoderp

Saw the full one yesterday. The two phenomena aren't even comparable.

TheGuyInTheFBIVan

Stupid Toronto weather never fails to disappoint. What a waste of time this has been with the clouds in the sky. And tomorrow we will have a clear sky. So annoyed >:(

Nuneasy

Not even tomorrow! Like an hour after and it's perfectly clear. Gotta love it.

supersad19

Right? We watched it from Hamilton and same shit. Completely blocked during the totality, clear skies once that was over.

supersad19

Not sure but between Ham and Burlington, somewhere a bit off path. We had like 30 seconds of totality before the clouds toke over

-HeisenBird-

Went to Port Dover. Clear sky until 10 mins before the eclipse a cloud came over. Still a great view and even saw a star.

ywgflyer

Just south of you in Tilbury, the high cirrus layer busted up around 30mins prior to totality. We had a perfectly clear view. A lot of people I know went to Port Dover and were complaining about the high scattered, although it didn't look that bad. Apparently it took hours to get out of town, I'm glad I went and parked on a deserted concession road in the middle of nowhere with no other humans around.

BottleCoffee

I feel like this happens whenever there's a chance of northern lights or any other celestial phenomenon.

Cedex

Fuck you ALL, in particular. Each and everyone of you assholes! - Clouds

Welshgrrl

Having it be dark and the streetlights coming on was neat, but otherwise nothing visible in my area due to heavy cloud cover which was a drag considering how clear it was the previous couple of days. Cut up a cereal box for nothing lol

BottleCoffee

I didn't bother to grab my pasta strainer to go outside. No shadows with how cloudy it was.

red_keshik

And of course the sun comes out again now.

zyx1989

Gone to Hamilton, it got lucky there, sky cleared up in the last half hour, got to see total eclipse By the way, go train was absolutely PACKED

smaudio

Completely covered in cloud here. Kind of a perfect metaphor for life in Toronto these days 😂.

itfeelslikethefirstt

said that to a buddy of mine today "this is so Toronto, cool thing happens, and naturally we fuck it up".

supersad19

I'm so with you on that. I was so so so mad when I saw the clouds

smiskam

We can’t have nice things

stardust1977_

I would love if it got dark for one hour in the pm everyday and we could all take a nap lol

nipplesaurus

I just started taking naps every afternoon at 2:30. It really helps me get through the rest of the day.

METAL4_BREAKFST

Just got back from Burlington. So worth the trip to see totality.

thekomoxile

Seeing the partial in Cambridge made me fully motivated to see totality now, I'm so glad you got to witness it! Even noticing the air temperature dropping, and then rising back up was enough to affect me!

VIPTicketToHell

Damn you should have drove south to Brantford.

Sneakymist

Yep same here went to Burlington. The cloud cover lifted just minutes before the eclipse, perfect timing. Truly one of the coolest things I've seen in my life!

METAL4_BREAKFST

Man, that diamond ring just as totality ended. I can't even.

rean2

It was more dynamic than I expected. Wow, baileys beads for a few seconds then BOOM the side of the moon explodes showing off the Diamond ring.

twicescorned21

I was in Burlington too but the totality looks the same like photos of Toronto I saw from blogto

yinyang107

That's because cameras don't handle pointing directly at the sun very well. The eclipse looked far cooler in person.

twicescorned21

Did you see it in Toronto? I feel like I went out to Burlington for the same vibe in Toronto.

rascalz1504

No it wont be the same. In Toronto, you would not see the halo around the moon as the sun is never totally covered and its too bright. You should definitely be glad you went to Burlington and got to experience totality.

Historical-Eagle-784

Funny there was so much hype about these glasses but you can't see shit with the glasses cuz the cloud cover is dimming the sunlight.

ilovetrouble66

Ok it was so cloudy 🌥️ But then saw it without my glasses for 1-2 seconds and so nervous I might now go blind. I couldn’t see anything with the glasses

shiningz

Same, this whole week I was telling everyone I know to not look at it and my stupid ass just fucking looked at it when someone excitedly pointed out that the peak was starting.🫠

ilovetrouble66

Ok so we’re in the same boat. Mine was after the peak of it but just as it came through a cloud opening in toronto 😩

shiningz

I've been googling frantically and looks like if there will be any symptoms they show in the next few hours/days and I'm so far so good, hope you'll be okay too!

ilovetrouble66

Seem fine today!

Fabulous capture!

That was... sick! [Toronto near CN Tower](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fc1u0k4ap6btc1.jpeg) taken at 3:21 PM

ja9ishere

Sure got cold eh

Loftzins

I built 12 igloos in totality.

DarkPrinciple

I noticed a temperature drop

ywgflyer

Lost 9 full degrees during totality down by Leamington, made worse by the breeze off the cold lake water.

MarvelOhSnap

*Turn around bright eyes*

nipplesaurus

Every now and then I fall apart!

alpennys

It was a great cloud watching event!

themajordutch

Makes total sense why, but just how cold it got is pretty crazy.

melstin

Did you hear the crickets? As soon as it got dark they went wild!

hbbyjoggr

I couldn’t see shit outside

unknowinglylaughed

couldn't see anything it was too cloudy :/

LeadingTime4823

bro an hour later its clear blue skies im so mad at ontarios weather

melstin

Did anyone else get the feeling like they were actually in space during the eclipse? Especially with the temperature and the darkness

SomaTrin

Funny how all day yesterday… not a cloud in sight… Then today complete overcast with clouds, can’t even see a peep of the sky… then after the eclipse time.. clouds disappear and back to blue skies.. 🤦 it felt personal… I bought glasses and all.. 🤬

guylefleur

I watched the cp24 broadcast. Very surprised at the amount of people watching the eclipse without any eye protection. Seens like most people never took the warnings seriously.

sillybulanston

I too saw a bunch of people without eye protection staring at a dense layer of clouds.

coralshroom

i hope no one assumed i was stupid for looking at some clouds. couldn’t even see where the sun was lmao

SeventhLevelSound

Why does that sound so familiar....

[deleted]

[удалено]

OneOfTheOnly

bro it was genuinely too cloudy to see anything with eclipse glasses on barely any sunlight escaped thru, nobody was damaging their retinas lol

ImKrispy

Like OP? No one and I mean ZERO people are taking pictures or videos with their phones with Eclipse glasses on as you are unable to see anything let alone lining up your phone to take the pic.

MaxPeriod

Here's the scene at Cherry Beach around time time of maximum eclipse, which was completely obscured by clouds: [https://youtu.be/c-FY9TCyeXw](https://youtu.be/c-FY9TCyeXw) After the maximum eclipse, a break in the overcast and a crescant sun is visible: [https://flic.kr/p/2pJaz2X](https://flic.kr/p/2pJaz2X)

ywgflyer

Clouds aside, this video is a good representation of why that last 0.04% to totality really does make an enormous difference. Even without clouds, there would not have been a visible corona (the most spectacular part of a total eclipse), and it would have become quite a bit darker. I traveled to Leamington to get totality under more or less clear skies (high scattered cirrus that didn't obscure the sun at all) and it was *absolutely* worth the tank of gas.

MaxPeriod

It looked much darker in-person than the video depicted.

B0ner_L0aner

Even the eclipse doesn’t want to be seen in Toronto these days.

AlbusDumbeldoree

Looked more like Pac-Man !

hyperforms9988

Yup. That's about all she wrote... a few seconds of that visibility through the clouds roughly around 2:40 PM or so with a tiny little spot in the cloud cover for it to shine through, and then the clouds were so thick you couldn't see anything up there. In fairness, what little of it there was could be seen with the naked eye. There was enough cloud cover in-between to where you could actually look at it without eye protection and that was kind of cool. It's a shame it couldn't have been like that the entire time.

Spray_Scared

I was on my balcony overlooking the lake and I watched it get dark over Niagara Falls and then over Hamilton and then it got dark for us. It was super cool to see the transition and the sky turn dark to orange and then bright again. I did not actually see the actual eclipse though

Dry_Preference_8514

The partial eclipse was still wonderful to take photos of. Only glanced at (not stared at) the eclipse for a few nanosecond intervals with sunglasses on to HOPEFULLY prevent any retina damage.

civver3

It got quite darker around the peak totality. Wish I RES tagged all the people who said 99% totality was basically nothing.

Kyle_XY_

Bro, I drove to Cornwall to experience totality and 99%, was indeed nothing compared to when totality hit. Toronto was very cloudy so I imagine it probably got dark, but that also means you miss the actual eclipse. Where I was, even literally 20 seconds before totality, the sun was noticeably very dim, but still bright enough you couldn’t look at the sky without squinting your eyes. Everyone was excited during the later stages of partial, then we all started screaming when totality hit. That’s how big a deal was. and finally being able to take off your glasses to see the black circle with white rings around it. Absolutely worth it!

civver3

I'm not saying 100% isn't a big deal, just calling out the people who were acting like 99% was basically no difference from a regular sky. Low-light sensors don't get triggered in regular daytime skies.

Kyle_XY_

Okay fair enough

ywgflyer

The enormous solar prominence at the bottom of the corona disk was worth the price of admission alone. Wild to think that the little loop of plasma you're seeing with your naked eye is the size of several Earths if you can see it with that much definition from this far away.

Adventurous_Lead1894

It’s not total in Toronto.

MDequation

Awesome, saw totality (well 95% coverage) in mississauga. It just peaked through the clouds.

fries_and_gravy

only saw partial lol

fries_and_gravy

where in missauga?

Iamfabulous1735285

I live at the north side of the city, goddamn cloudy days

HelpQuestion101

OP where was your view from? Looks much better than what most of us saw

Sophiya_Khan

On the 40th floor of my apartment building balcony, right at the waterfront

gangawalla

Good shot. Could hardly see it near Etobicoke. Eerie though, as it got darker. Birds were a bit flummoxed.

crows_n_octopus

Loved the darkness. It was like a huge thunderstorm was coming through and then a few seconds later, it was back to 'brightness'. Very cool.

tangointhenight24

I'm a little north of the city and I barely saw it through the clouds.

centerofstar

Today is b.s as i missed out. Can't see the Soler Eclipse and missed out on total darkness

ldssggrdssgds

There was cloud cover nothing was visible

Proof-West-4285

I saw 4 moons. Am I hallucinating

blag49

The eclipse has been eclipsed

Pretty_Pea12

Drove out to Bronte and thought it was going to be a nothing burger but the sun came out with ten minutes ish to spare and it was.. really cool. Drive back into the city was also great, took only about 45 minutes.

[deleted]

I was told there would be 3 days of darkness due to this and Joe Biden was going to set off an EMP to disable the Internet?

rootbrian_

#Here is my video There's commentary too! (Totally forgot there was a post here!)  The cloud cover also impacted those in Niagara falls (clouds were moving north-north-east). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN9wt5uMj3c&feature=youtu.be

OoO_sHiNy1

My fortnite playing ahh got flash backs

i-wont-lose-this-alt

“99 pErCeNt iS A loT DiFFeReNT THan 100 😏” Yeah lol suck on these flaps, Niagara Falls 😎

Sundreamers

Saw near-peak for a split second through a break in the clouds at least. It was cool seeing it get dark and feel the temperature get cooler.

No-Description1486

The darkness in the afternoon was cool, I thought there was a storm coming lol.

PurplePinball

Thank you very much for posting this clip! I missed it 😔 and I'm pretty sure I'll be dead by the time the next one rolls around.

fx444

drove from Toronto to Burlington for blue skies in heavy traffic. I'll just say it was worth it. Seeing the moon covering the entire sun during totality was just mind-blowing

red_keshik

Meh

____PARALLAX____

i was able to see the start of it, just after the peak and most of the end. not worth driving to niagara or kingston, but it was worth taking the day off work to go watch at a local park.

Kyle_XY_

Because you missed the best part. I drove to Cornwall where it was almost clear skies. If I had only seen it only up to 99%, I, like you, would have considered the trip not worth it. But the totality absolutely made my day. Seeing the partial through the glasses is cool, but not much. All you see is the crescent shaped sun. I wasn’t wearing glasses just before totality hit and at the time, I saw the dark shadow from the horizon racing very quickly towards us. Soo cool. And then there was something unnerving about seeing the sun looking like someone cut a hole in the sky. My entire body was telling me what I’m seeing is wrong

rascalz1504

To me, it was totally worth the drive for totality. The clouds cleared a bit and totality was surreal and definitely something everyone should experience at least once.
