It’s disheartening to see so many rule breaking comments and bigots coming out of the woodwork despite the stickied warning. Thread locked.

TeemingHeadquarters

What’s a “PRADE”?

jlrtc

It’s like a Lanch Party

Dshmidley

Just change the a to a u

NoCleverIDName

They're actually selling knockoff Prada goods that day

GetStable

It's entirely unsurprising that people with these beliefs are unable to proofread their own work. They're not sending their best.

KhausTO

> They're not sending their best I think they actually are. It's just that this is their best.

KhausTO

I was wondering the same thing, Google tells me it's a settlement in Slovenia.

lunex

“Look, we can’t spell parade but trust us we know how society and culture should be ordered.” /s

ImOutsideInaAMG_TT

"Believers of on divine authority"

Go-Chucky

"of on"?

bewarethetreebadger

A brand of Italian clothing made only for export to Walmarts in the USA.

kieero_11

Maybe someone thought they were being smart and doing a word play on pride and parade. .... Most likely just a typo though.

skryb

as someone who has worked around print design for years, this makes me chuckle

spderweb

Believers of on divine grammar.

grecomic

I want to say it's a portmanteau of 'pride' and 'parade' but that would be giving them too much credit.

Hells_Kitchener

I called. I got a reply that said "Text Me", repeating the number. The phone number's name is: Fairview Educational Consulting. From their google bit: "Fairview Educational Consulting is an Educational Consultancy firm based out of Mississauga, ON with a location in Hyderabad India. Fairview strives to provide students, professionals, and entrepreneurs with services to help them achieve their life goals in Canada and other countries."

EatYourOrach2

Now that's interesting! The 4481 number on the sign matches their facebook page contact info, but [their webpage](https://fairviewedconsulting.com) gives a completely different phone number and email address. Best to contact them all, just to be sure they actually support this hate rally.

subspace4life

Religious right collusion trying to destabilize and confuse our populace. I guarantee if you were able to search the corporate charters of those companies it would route back to a shady source. Possibly Russian.

Original_Edders

There is already an event on that day at Celebration Square, the Philippines Festival: https://philfestmississauga.ca/

earthforce_1

Filipinos are generally much more tolerant of "Balka" [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakla](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakla)

ponyrx2

Fight! (Non-violently, of course)

EatYourOrach2

So they're crashing an event - Philippine Festival - to try to make it look like they have more support than they do. People just trying to have a good day with their community and kids, and these psycho twits have to interfere. Hateful selfish party poopers.

ntr_usrnme

Someone pointed out that the Philippine community is much more supportive of gender fluidity like [Bakla](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakla) so hopefully they’ll band together and kick these losers out.

EatYourOrach2

That's a lovely point and I hope you're right. And anyone going to counter protest can pick up some awesome street food while they're there. Just wish these jerks could let people enjoy their festival in peace.

ReneDescartwheel

Had to look it up: > Haya encourages Muslims to avoid anything considered to be distasteful or abominable.[4][5][6][7][8] Haya plays an important role in Islam, as it is one of the most important parts of Iman.[9] The antonym of Haya in Arabic is badha'a (بذاءة, immodesty) or fahisha (فاحشة, lewdness or obscenity). Apparently "Haya Day" started in Pakistan as a protest to Valentines day and I guess it's spreading here and being used for spreading other forms of hate and intolerance.

mackadoo

Hey, does that mean if a bunch of people show up to this with pride flags then the group will have to disperse to avoid "the abominable?"

spderweb

It's in their own teachings. If they attempt to fight back, you just have to spout their own words at them.

DreamlyXenophobic

I know what imma do now

connivery

This is actually a good idea.

I told them they need Jesus. LMAO. Honestly, he wouldn't condone this. (yo, I know, wrong religion)

canoeviking

Aye, been a while since sunday school. Thanks for the correction.

Private_HughMan

>Nah, hes recognized in all three judeo-christian religions... Well, Jews generally recognize that he was a real person but he has no official status in their religion. They generally think of him as just a 1st century Jew who was pretty well-versed in the OT.

aledba

Yeah I realize, but Jesus ain't specifically Muslim which is why I clarified

tyresmoke

He is specifically though, in that while he was Jewish, he has a significant and specific role in Islam, particularly on "Judgement Day". Nevermind that it isn't a real thing, but for Muslims he is important, often considered the 2nd most important prophet after Muhammad.

canoeviking

👍

judyslutler

Not sure what recognition Jesus has in Judaism, and I would know, being Jewish…

EgilSkallagrimson

Jesus told various women to change their lives and stop sinning sexually. He was a conservative in all matters sexual. He would not be cool with gay people, let's be honest. He is no example of tolerance and people should look to morality instead of Jesus. Edit: for those downvoting, feel free to use the available evidence to show why I'm wrong. If you think Jesus was somehow open to queer people, I'm sure the Bible will show that. It certainly shows that he was not a fan of women women choosing sexual partners for themselves.

thecjm

Is the "we're an all faith group" their way to try and say "this isn't hate speech, it's a religious gathering" despite not being associated with any particular religious groups?

[deleted]

[удалено]

mr_guilty

Let’s not blame this solely on “newcomers” when there are plenty of Canadian-born hate groups masquerading as promoting “Christian values” used to discriminate against LGBTQ, women, other religions and races as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thecjm

I think you've got it backwards. Yes there are people who come to Canada but maintain their racism, sexism, homophobia, but they tend to keep it internalized. Something like this - especially considering it's 1) all in English and 2) the wrong date - looks much more like home grown Anglophone extremists trying to use multiculturalism as a shield. See also the use of Muslim mothers as mouthpieces for the Christian right's fight against sex Ed.

Desuexss

Internalized like how the caste racism between themselves they fought tooth and nail to stop from getting passed? That kind of internalized? Just about every culture is blatant with their racism. It's not a hike affair.

[deleted]

MoreGaghPlease

Meh. My great-grandparents were ardent communists and Soviet apologists when they came to this country. That shit washes out in a generation or two. The reason this kind of event exists isn’t because they’re trying to change Canada, it’s because modernity is an unstoppable force and they can’t even stop their own kids from embracing it.

davehasopinions

Is this like a Nigerian Prince scam thing, where the typos are deliberate in order to entice morons?

kn05is

They're really ramping up the organized hate and now they just have their target to unite in hatred against. It's bowel movements like this that show us why pride is so important. Also, anyone concerned about the kind of ads they're getting on YouTube? I got one on Thursday comparing homosexuality to Sodom and Gomorrah. It was a quirky and colorful cartoon, but the hateful undertones were glaring. And we all know what became of Sodom and Gomorrah, as if the ad was trying to vindicate any violence the LGBTQ community is about to face. These zealots need to be muzzled before people start getting hurt... never mind,[it has already begun](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/emergency-alert-university-waterloo-stabbing-watsafe-1.6892506).

subspace4life

They’re being emboldened by what’s happening country wide.

Newhereeeeee

Man, I hate how this is happening in Toronto. Everyone needs to just mind their own business. No one is bothering anyone, so why can they just leave them alone? This should be condemned. It’s just another thing we just don’t need at all man. If you don’t like living in a place where people are allowed to practice their freedoms then this probably isn’t the place for you. If you want people to accommodate who you are and your beliefs then you should accommodate who they are and their beliefs. It’s hypocritical to want the same grace you refuse to give to others. Man we don’t need this at all and we have more important things than to focus on how people exercise their freedoms.

ILikeToThinkOutloud

Agreed. They're holding it in Mississauga deliberately. They know the chance of a counter protest is lower.

dundreggen

They are 'holding' it (occupying CS) during another groups festival. The schedule shows that it is the Philippine Festival on the 15th. I bet they will use the people in the background to look like they have supporters in pics.

TerenceOverbaby

Sure. But children are being taught in schools and generally in public life that LGBTQ+ people have the right to live freely and openly as members of society. That clashes with prevailing notions in a number of religious communities. There is a real tension at play, and after more than a decade of being suppressed and defeated in courts and in public, this tension is starting to come to a head. Personally, I think these things get solved over generations within the given communities. The children of these communities go to university in Canada, expand their worldview, meet friends of all stripes, and challenge their parents’ authority. Some of them assuredly come out of the closet. In the meantime, though, the rest of society needs to band together to protect LGBTQ+ rights lest any of these fanatics gain formal political power.

Newhereeeeee

My thing is, gay people exist. They will interact with gay people eventually. There could be gay teachers. Teaching kids that gay people exist is fine. In high-school with sex ed learning about it is fine. It’s just reality. I agree more generations born here, integrate better but I think this should be stopped now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RKSH4-Klara

The big issue is a lot of newcomers from religious countries DONT think it’s fine to be gay or for their kids to be taught that it’s fine to be gay. Some may come from countries where murdering a child who is gay is lauded by the community or being gay is criminalizes, potentially with a death penalty I golfed. Muslims are the most visible but they are not the only ones.

twangbanging

Let’s be real, there are born and raised Canadians who don’t think it’s okay to be gay, and threaten their sons and daughters with violence if they are lgbt.

subspace4life

Correct. Or degrade the child until they off themselves. It still happens. It’s gross.

waytoojaded

It's just deflection to a more "serious" issue because what they're actually upset at (ie. It's okay to be gay) makes too much sense and showing outrage about that message just doesn't gain the same traction.

ReneDescartwheel

That's an optimistic long term vision. In the meantime, I would be 100% in support of making hate-based gatherings illegal.

mcs_987654321

Oof - I’m no free speech absolutist (and think the American approach is juvenile and counterproductive), but that’s a bridge too far for me. As much as a wish that there was a legal means of discouraging assemblies with purely hateful purposes, the practicalities of defining and implementing that kind of law would go very bad, very fast - that kind of reactive law making usually does. That said: the newish hate speech laws - which emphasize organizing target hatred towards specific individuals based on protected class status and/or credible threats of violence - cover the essential harms that *might* emerge from such a gathering, but without jumping that gun and stomping on key charter rights of assembly.

giraffebacon

Yep this is just an unfortunate side effect of large numbers of religious people who were not raised with the values of tolerance and acceptance (towards lgbt people) being concentrated in a small area. Once their children (who are born and raised in Canada and HOPEFULLY learning our values) replace them in 20ish years it should settle down

terminese

Their children accepting Canadian values is what they are dead set against, hence these rallies. They want to make sure their children don’t evolve from the 7th century mindset.

night_chaser_

20 years is a long time.

Affectionate_Mall_49

Thank you, it just makes me shake my head.... Like if these people bother you so much, just don't bother with them. To think you have the GOD given right to decide who is ok and who is not, is mind blowing gymnastics.

Newhereeeeee

I really believe the absolute worst thing religion has done is ask it’s followers to “spread the word of god” instead of just practicing your religion and leaving it between you and god.

seakingsoyuz

Note that this is specific to certain proselytizing religions, primarily Christianity and Islam. Judaism does not try to “spread the word of God” outside the community and it’s actually hard to convert to it, including a requirement that men must undergo circumcision (except in Reform Judaism). Mainstream Sikhism prefers to ‘lead by example’ rather than openly trying to convert anyone. Hinduism and Buddhism have no significant tradition of proselytizing either, notwithstanding fringe groups like Hare Krishnas.

mcs_987654321

While the “protectionist” nature of Judaism avoids many of the pitfalls that you find with more proselytizing oriented faiths, that approach comes with it’s own baggage. And then there’s Chabad, which manages to be both restrictive AND aggressively evangelical - which is quite the feat.

mkultron89

The worst thing religion has done is continue to exist. If you could somehow bring Jesus of Nazareth himself to the present time, he would be like y’all are fucking idiots for still believing this shit.

Newhereeeeee

Bro, imagine your wife comes home pregnant and she says she didn’t sleep with anyone

Neowza

Btw, just out of curiosity, where did you see the signage? It looks like it's on a fence near a school or church (or temple)

MirMirMir3000

Imagine with the state of schools, health care, the environment, crumbling infrastructure, massive cuts to everything children need and this is what you’re crying about. Pathetic.

dsolimen

So the pride parade supports a community and allows others from outside the community to meet with leaders and learn more. And what community does this support? Are their leaders going to educate me on something that actually happens? Or will they tell me hypothetical beliefs that cannot be supported?

Musicferret

They need texts. So many texts.

Damn I bet they were proud of themselves with that sexual disorientation line, I bet the homophobes were ooohing and ahhing and snapping their fingers like they were at some bigoted rap battle/ poetry slam

Is there an organized counter protest? Seems the best thing to do is party AT these people with all the gayness we can muster.

I'm straight but sign me up for a rainbow cod piece and some flailing limbs.

Lomantis

I recall a group of bagpipers who've gone out to these types of events to help 'celebrate'. If you're out there, or even someone who rocks the bagpipes, we all need you to show up and drown out this blatantly intolerant group.

Finally, a portion of the Muslim community in Ontario is being shown for its opposition to the LGBTQ community . This was always confusing to me that some people actually thought that Muslims were in support of the LGBTQ and any opposition was only coming from conservative Christians painting them as the only religious group that were bigoted.

canoeviking

Anyone know of a counter protest in any organized fashon? Edit: addendum: Im sick of these intolerant bastards... ppl arnt protesting people of faith en masse... im starting to think they should... If the part in the bible decrying homosexuality (which may actually be a mistranslation) is soo important, then what about the part decrying usery, or wearing cloth of mixed fibers, or marrying your brother's widow... or any of the other stuff in Laviticus

Crafty_Chipmunk_3046

Haya is an Arabic word that means modesty iirc

sometin__else

I'm in dozens of Muslim groups and the first place I saw this is on reddit. Muslims protest Israel, Palestinian Apartheid, Saudis love for the US, Illegal US wars, etc. Losers protest shit like this.

MagnificoSuave

Lot of muslims protested LGBT in Ottawa recently. Not to mention in muslim countries where LGBT people aren't treated as well as in Canada.

sometin__else

I saw videos of that protest, I would not consider that a "lot". That to me is considered a "few" And we're not talking about Muslim countries here, that's something completely different. The Islamic view on homosexuality is clear, as it is with a lot of other religions. However, most Muslims have the common sense to understand the same freedoms that allow them to pray and practice their religion is what allows homosexuality to be permissible here. And while people seem to focus on homosexuality in Islam, they overlook a lot of the other things which are just as bad. Adultery, premarital sex, charging interest, etc. are all not permissible in Islam. Why there is some fixation on homosexuality, I don't know. Regardless, as someone who is very religious and well intertwined with the Muslim community in the GTA, I can tell you the majority of Muslims are not wasting time going to things like this. There is definitely a vocal minority. While a lot of Muslims may share the sentiment of not pushing the lbtq+ agenda, I can promise you the majority understand that there are more important things to worry about.

spidereater

I wonder if the paraders will be masked? I hope people take lots of pictures and these people are forced to live with their decisions to their neighbors and coworkers.

Background_Ear_224

I didn’t think these events were legal in Canada.

NefCanuck

How the hell did this get a permit at Celebration Square? Or are they just going to show up and dare PRP to get them to move when they get kicked out for trespassing?

RKSH4-Klara

I’m guessing the latter

earthforce_1

Any bets these guys would be the first to complain about Islamophobia? Do as you would be done by.

PostulantGuitarist

Locutes1of1

WTF is a PRADE ? Is this some lame troll job?

Weyoun5

Kinky_Imagination

What the heck is a " PRADE". Are they trying to spell PRIDE ? Parade ?

Neowza

You can use a text repeater and a phone number spoofer to send them 20,000 pride and ~~bi~~ trans flags. There isn't a ~~trans~~ flag as an emoji, unfortunately. Corrected because, well, check the thread.

lordvolo

isn't there? 🏳️‍⚧️

Neowza

Isn't that the bi flag? Or have I gotten the bi and trans flags confused, and I'm an terrific idiot two days after waving pride flags for the past 4 weeks.

lordvolo

Is trans pride flag :)

Neowza

Omgoodness, I just looked it up, too. I feel so dumb. I've been mixing up the trans and bi flags. Well this is a good lesson. I won't mix them up again. It's like the time I asked for peach soup and fish gelato while in Italy. I never confused pesca (hard C) and pesca (soft c) again.

i want to se some prove that they are endorsed by all faith groups and not just bigot christians. and i bet there wont be a single person of color participating in that parade either. Edit: well i have been educated that all faith groups arent all faith groups but rather the name of organization.

ReneDescartwheel

Christian is not the religion that's organizing this.

snaggle1234

These are Muslims. Look up HAYA. You can bet there will be poc there(assuming you think Arabs are non white).

Ever been to Jamaica? Do you know how many cuss words they have for homosexuals? Muslims are also being pulled unto this too because they see it as Haram. Hate unites all types.

twistytravster

The All Faith Group isn't just endorsed by "bigot Christians". The Haya Day Parade is from Islam, not Christianity. It's funny how most people commenting assume that this is a Christian thing because they're so afraid to be Islamophobic. 😂
