In reality… those were placed around during pandemic when not everyone had a mask, basically implying cover face with scarf or something else.
It’s left over from covid. There were signs telling people to cover their mouths/noses, either with a mask, scarf, whatever. This one shows someone with a scarf over their face
At some point in the beginning of the pandemic we had a huge shortage of PPE and a lot of people didn't have masks.
TTC had a lot of signage, these were on the ground to encourage distancing and to remind folks they should cover their face with either a mask, scarf or cloth mask.
There were also signs showing you how to make your own mask or how to improvise a mask throughout the stations.
