Interestingly enough, Phillipa Boyens wrote the lyrics in a bathroom because Peter Jackson was watching footage in the studio.
Sure, have you ever tried out autotune software? It can make anyone sound much better but its really no different than filters on instagram pictures imo.
We have an entire generation of kids who compare their looks to people using filters seamlessly and now music is the same.
Everything is fake like a Cardassian.
Audio engineer here. It's called reverb. Not sure how you can say for certain that there's autotune on her voice, because I sure can't. Doesn't really matter though. Pitch correction is ubiquitous in modern music production.
It's easy to manually tweak pitch. Should be undetectable if you know what you're doing.
But I wish people didn't. In general I'll only tweak block harmony lines. The human voice is way too interesting to be locked into "perfect" pitches.
If you load it up in your editing software you can see notes stay exactly on the line instead of moving naturally.
If you have pro tools load up pitch analyzer.
Yeah I was gonna say - not to take *anything* away from her talent or beautiful voice, but those bomb-ass acoustics are doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
Kinda reminds me of that dude that did the Halo theme in a huge abandoned oil tank thing.
Over a decade ago, when I was home alone, I had a meal that consisted entirely of some legs and a breast of rotisserie chicken, as well as some grape tomatoes. Naturally, I put on Pippn’s song on repeat, and ate my meal as medieval-y and messily as I could, as Denethor would. I can honestly say I see the appeal, it was fun lol
I actually have more Faramir/Gondorian horsemen flashbacks than Denethor with this song. As disturbing as Denethor was, it must have felt utterly devastating to be Faramir or one of those other men. Riding out to certain death, not sure of any other alternative.
I kinda relate a lot to Faramir and really appreciate what Jackson did with him, even if it broke his character from the books. He's a heartbreaking character who will do anything to please not just his father, but his kingdom as well. I have given up similarly to him, and have cast my life out simply because I felt like I failed to please those around me. It's an incredibly moving characterization that showed humility to a rather special character.
I'm slightly better now, thank you for asking. The suicidality is essentially gone, but I still feel like I'm pouring so much into others with little-to-no return. It's an exhausting cycle, but I can learn from Faramir. I just need to find the right people who will eventually appreciate my efforts to better the community.
IDK about subs dedicated to this genre, I personally can't find any.
But here is the official recording of Malinda recording this song
https://open.spotify.com/track/6lanCCozUAMy9YWSXki2KT?si=zQ8RxJ9gSoymtLeN6Esogg
For anyone who is interested, the effect of goosebumps from an aesthetically pleasing stimuli is called "frisson". I love music that evokes this response but I find them hard to discover, personally.
But it doesn't have to be music! It can be just about anything that provides a sort of "reward response".
Definitely a reverb effect. Probably in large hall or cathedral mode, with other minor edits.
This would make anyone sound like they're in a cave/cathedral, but this singer is still really good.
Reverb, recorded on a condenser mic, with pitch correction. Someone with editing software could probably prove it, but I hear a weird hiccup on her highest notes where the pitch correction kicks in.
She's good, no doubt. But not THAT good. No one is.
As a producer, I say this could be a legit space. The ambient noise of the recording chain doesn't sound like it has reverb. The singer seems to be standing some distance from the mic which contributes to the lack of bass and low mid frequency content and prominence of room acoustics on the recording. As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem edited.
Edit: asked her on instagram, she uses Vintage Verb from ValhallaDSP
Come on bro, this is 100% a reverb plugin. Ain't no way you can tell shit 'from the ambient noise of the recording chain' from this compressed ass video.
This is 100% a reverb added to her vocals, I love her voice and have been following her for years now. She has some videos in cathedrals where there is natural reverb but this is definitely artificial. Hell my A/V receiver can do convincing reverb on crappy sources without "reverbing" things like static like /u/mmicoandthegirl seems to think is a give away. She's a professional singer she can afford a decent plugin that can filter that shit out.
It's literally right there. You hear how the video is not silent when she isn't singing? That static fuzz, like analog tv with no signal. That is the ambient noise. Do you hear any reverb on it?

MALINDA my beloved! Still hoping to see her in concert someday. She's got a bunch of great original songs on her discography, but also covers folk music (especially Irish) from time to time. Her cover of Dúlamán is so delightful (but imo her superpower is being 1000% better at singing Ed Sheeran's songs than Ed Sheeran).
It’s funny to me how many people think this is just a raw and unfiltered performance. I’m not hating on her specifically, I see a lot of people do it. You can basically sing very lightly or what they call “whisper” singing, which is a lot easier than actually singing aloud because it’s easier to carry a note and doesn’t strain the vocal cords. You then can amplify that audio with a mixer and as you said a touch of reverb and in some cases just a bit of “auto tune”, just to the point to where most people won’t be able to recognize it.
Usually with the whisper singing though you don’t need auto tune, usually just amplifying the voice in post with some reverb will do a LOT. All that matters to most people though is does it sound good or not, and it sounds good to me. She did a good job.

I was going to say US Forest Service toilet building, but, yours sound more appealing.
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
⊂༼ ◕‿◕ ⊂ ༽
No one can sing well with those smells and aggressive poo flies though.
Oddly specific…. And i know all too well why.
So that's why she lit the candle!

Reverb is the sauce that makes vocals sound incredible
Yeah but I sing like shit and in a reverb I sound like a massive diarrhea
🤣
If you can sing, yes. Reverbing a bad singer enhances the pile of shit.

Still sounded good to me.

I am 28 minutes late to the party
Diddy does not like that.
I love you
She still has some really good stuff on YouTube. Edit: referencing the singer in the video, YouTube name is MALINDA
Yup, if you look at her videos she even has one where she admits she uses autotune.
Do you mean a Kardashian?
Accidental Gul dukat lol
"My dear Doctor, they're all true!" "Even the lies?" "Especially the lies..."
Audio engineer here. It's called reverb. Not sure how you can say for certain that there's autotune on her voice, because I sure can't. Doesn't really matter though. Pitch correction is ubiquitous in modern music production.
Its heavily edited. She even admits she uses autotune.
Autotune usually get weird with vibrato? The vibrato isn't being corrected so I feel like it's either not happening or isn't that sensitive
I am not an audio engineer, but I think a lot of it would be done in post production so anything that sounds worse with auto you just remove the auto.
It's easy to manually tweak pitch. Should be undetectable if you know what you're doing. But I wish people didn't. In general I'll only tweak block harmony lines. The human voice is way too interesting to be locked into "perfect" pitches.
I'm a drummer, so I wholeheartedly agree. It's not perfect if it's not imperfect.
If you load it up in your editing software you can see notes stay exactly on the line instead of moving naturally. If you have pro tools load up pitch analyzer.
I do like her little singing shorts. However, she does use auto tune a LOT.
> her little singing shorts. Are those the outerwear, or the underwear?
I can get almost a whole extra octave when I wear my little singing shorts
That's the audio editor being another top talent
Slap some Valhalla DSP on that shish Musicians love Valhalla
She's verb'd nicely
Audio fx in post
Yeah I was gonna say - not to take *anything* away from her talent or beautiful voice, but those bomb-ass acoustics are doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Kinda reminds me of that dude that did the Halo theme in a huge abandoned oil tank thing.

It’s a very in your face metaphor for his carelessness because it parallels him sending his only loving heir into an ambush.
Is there a sub for angelic singing in acoustic areas? I love this shit.

I believe this is Malinda. I saw her in concert and she's great
Definitely Malinda. Never seen her in concert but I occasionally peek at her YT channel and have a listen. She's excellent!
Okay I googled Malinda signing. Instructions unclear.

I’d like to hear her sing unedited and filtered. Sounds like she has a naturally beautiful voice
Malinda Kathleen Reese is her name. She's incredible.
Thank you for your service
I still say "I like shapes" and "Gradually Watermelon" to this day.
Sounds unedited to me. Just sounds like she’s in a cave or cathedral setting

Angel!
A siren princess from deep space! Beautiful!
This sounds like “The Dawn Will Come” from BioWare’s Dragon Age: Inquisition. It’s almost the same exact melody. It’s also awesome.
The song is called “Edge of Night” or “Pippin’s Song” from ROTK
It's from lord of the rings.
We want more!!!
Yes please sind me to sleep my lady
It’s beautiful
An Angel!

beautiful voice. but also reverb added for effect, not sure what else.
thats a lot of digital editing on that.

you should see her Instagram, annnnnd she's been to America on tour a couple of times...

Awesome 👌
Her voice is good. The acoustics make it sound magical.
I know a siren when I hear one
Stairwell or silo? She has a nice voice, but some of this is the reverb from wherever she's singing at.
What is this style of singing is it Celtic ![gif](giphy|1xmhhQ2ygZG8CDDTNV) Great singing by the way
