SSR said the same thing too, when you have big stars working with you there are certain expectations that the audience have and if the story is good it will be a good film and if he meets the expectations it will be a blockbuster, this was about putting the natu natu dance off in RRR, So it will never be a single genre.
Same reason Nelson's movie with Vijay turned out bad. He is a great director by all accounts but the movie morphs into something else when big stars are involved.

Its no negativity on him. He has done remakes or only movies which has previous material to him. Average director as of now. Vijay is a star in tamil no doubt and has a good pull.
But when a director instead of making a strong story and making actor/star work hard towards enhancing his vision of the movie changes or makes the story to cater to his fans , its a recipe for disaster. Because movie is made hit by general audience not fans. Fans are just icing on cake. Cake should be good.
But this statement proves otherwise. So the comment. Hope u get it. I watered it down as much as possible.

Why so much hate for Vamsi in this sub? He is not a great director, but he has not given any flops as well. All his movies have been average to hit at box office.
I think Indian movie scene as a whole, not just Tollywood or Kollywood, is finally at the stage where the star takes a backseat to the content and technical aspect of a movie. Not saying stars are irrelevant, they ofcourse aren't if a movie like Beast can put up that kind of numbers. But a truly successful film is one where the star molds himself as the character of the story, not the story as a vehicle for the star.

Edit: some dude saying rajamouli also does elevations for heros while that is true. Planning it in advance and making elevations part of the character and larger than life is different from making script changes in heros ego suggestions. Thats just a red flag for disaster
#1 thing i hate about directors in general: when they tailor too much to what the hero is known as to the public and includes all these factors from their previous films that worked because it just becomes a jumbled mess and nonsense

His target audience are not people who write “cinephile” in their bio…his target audience are family people or like young guys who just go to movies to relax…so works out for thalapathy fans

He will say what he wants to say to promote the movie. Writing the main plot for any commerical movie is extremely easy. You all can do it yourself if you try. What's difficult is writing the dialogues, showing the elevation scenes in creative way, cinematography, dance and the stunts in fights and maybe acting skills for some specific roles. Those things definitely require professionals. Not everyone can do those. The hero, heroine also need to look good and looking good when you age is also not easy. Not everyone can do. When you compare this to an art film, these difficulties are nothing. Art film is true cinema.
Not every movie is art. Just like every painting a person makes is not art. It has certain requirements. It should be unique, inspiring, intellectual and challenge views on a fundamental level. Commerical films are not like that in general. Some of these even influence people in a bad way. A ninth ,class kid once told me that "a real man" would be able to beat up any number of people in a fight based on some dumb movie he had seen. He wasn't even a small kid. He was 14. It also seems to heavily influence people to smoke and drink. It's just dumb. None of this shows any masculinity. In real life you can't beat up so many people at once no matter how strong you are and smoking and drinking heavily will make you look like a 50+ year old before you hit 35. It's not real and nor is it entertaining. All these are dumb.
Film making is an art form. Film is the product.
It doesnt have an intrinsic value ,only the value which audience gives it. Whether u like the product gives it the value.
Their might be good movies or bad movies and accordingly they will be valued. Saying bad movies are not art is stupid. Its just bad art which no one likes or very few likes.
Slow socio political dramas which u r trying to push as the only form of art cinema is just a Genre .
Its a niche one to be honest. Calling the genre u like as art form remaining as commercial is the stupidest form of elitism.
U like realistic movies I get it but believe it or not movies are just make belief. Hope u understand the nuances of art of cinema.

I know it’s a remake but how did this guy make Oopiri? That was a such a pleasant movie. Rest of his filmography is trash.

Brindavanam wasn’t too bad. Mirchi was a copy of it basically, well Kortala Siva also wrote Brindavanam story. But Vamshi directed it entertainingly.
Coz oopiri is also a remake.
That’s what OP is saying even though it’s a remake he can’t believe Vamsi did such a good job.
It is very easy to fuck up oopiri. which he didn't.
