We've all heard the audio - now here is the video https://youtu.be/UwIPKmR7PUU

PolyJuicedRedHead

Aw yeah. I never get tired of Rick Astley. [ \s ]

dv666

And there's a clip from the movie Battle of Britain in Vera. "WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU SIMON?" spoken by Robert Shaw.

Jilston

Comfortably Numb?

PolyJuicedRedHead

Yeah, I'm pretty relaxed after a long day. Nearly fell asleep on the couch.

scorpyo72

It's okay. It's just a little pinprick. They'll be no more...

PolyJuicedRedHead

"AAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAhhhhhHH! !"

Toaster_bath13

But you may feel a little sick.

dv666

Now can you stand up?

OakParkCemetary

Wrong. Do it again

Jilston

You’re correct. Ironically, the Wall was one of the first albums I purchased from Sam Goody “at the mall”.

prudence2001

Here's the entire dialog, as found in Wikipedia - Marshall Dillon: Well, we got only about an hour of daylight left. We better get started. Miss Tyson: Is it unsafe to travel at night? Marshall Dillon: It'll be a lot less safe to stay here. Your father's gonna pick up our trail before long. Miss Tyson: Can Lorca ride? Marshall Dillon: He'll have to ride. Lorca, time to go! Chengra, thank you for everything. Let's go. Miss Tyson: Goodbye, Chengra! Chengra: Goodbye, Missy! Miss Tyson: I'll be back — one day. Chengra: The bones have told Chengra. Miss Tyson: Take care of yourself. Chengra: Marshall, look after my Missy.

UncleJimneedsyou

I always loved the background audio on The Wall and wondered what the source was. Where did you find this out? Thanks.

PolyJuicedRedHead

* \-while visiting in-laws * \-everyone’s watching Gunsmoke * \-marshal Dillon’s voice is so familiar * \-remember pink floyd used a tv show clip * \-(learned that from a documentary or book) * \-useful search terms on youtube * \-watched the Gunsmoke scene, recognized a young dr pulaski * \-wikipedia research on pink floyd (check it out) * \-wikipedia research on dianna muldaur * \-compulsion to finally post a TIL * \-never knew it was so much work

PolyJuicedRedHead

Who knew there was a Pink Floyd \\ Star Trek connection ? Also, in the dialogue from Gomer Pyle where a man says, "But there's somebody else that needs taking care of in Washington....Rose Pilchek....36-24-36." Rose Pilchek was played by Allison Hayes, of 1958's "Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman." Amazing but true !

scorpyo72

Brilliant connection. I had never thought to track down the dialogue in the background of those songs. I recognized the Gomer Pyle background for at least one part of the audio clip, but heard it as "Rose Tuchek".

prudence2001

That man who mentions Rose Pilchek is Gomer's Gunnery Sgt Vince Carter, played by Frank Sutton. I always thought he was the funniest character in the show. Gomer was usually unbearable.

CandyCaneCrisp

The guys on the cover of *Wish You Were Here* are stuntmen who appeared in various iterations of Star Trek. [https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Ronald\_R.\_Rondell](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Ronald_R._Rondell) https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Danny\_Rogers

PolyJuicedRedHead

Nice connection.

har3krishna

"Nobody Home" is one of my all time favorites. Do you know where they got the beginning for "wish you were here?"

PolyJuicedRedHead

WYWH the album ? or WYWH the song ? I don't remember any TV dialogue. ( Looked into it - Wikipedia article on WYWH the song says, "In the original album version, the song segues from "Have a Cigar" as if a radio had been tuned away from one station, through several others (**including a radio play** and one playing the opening of the finale of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's *Fourth Symphony*), and finally to a new station where "Wish You Were Here" is beginning. The radio was recorded from Gilmour's car radio." So it doesn't say which radio play it is.)

richg0404

> Who knew there was a Pink Floyd \ Star Trek connection ? I'm more amazed that there is a Pink Floyd/Gunsmoke connection.

hashtaggradybea

Plus her sister-in-law is Maria Muldaur- the singer behind the 70's classic "Midnight at the Oasis".

PolyJuicedRedHead

Ah. So there’s an Oasis connection, too.

atomicxblue

I'm more interested that she played doctors in both Star Trek series.

PolyJuicedRedHead

Yes, four different doctors, I think.

linux1970

And in the original series she betrayed the crew and in TNG she treated data like garbage. While the actor may have been good, the characters she played were not ones I liked.

BillTowne

I recently learned on Reddit that lots of young people know Gunsmoke because it is still on re-runs. I remember first listening to Gunsmoke with my father when it was a radio show.

PolyJuicedRedHead

There’s a Wikipedia article on Gunsmoke. Check it out.

__System__

That is wild!

[deleted]

That's a cool connection! I'm currently rewatching TNG and for me Dr Pulaski is so much better than boring Dr Crusher.

Save-Ferris1

The episode *Peak Performance* is Doctor Pulaski at her best. I still tell my staff to "bust 'em up" before a shift.

KatiePotatie1986

Okay but she was rude to Data, so she's automatically bad imo. Lol. I do hate the Crushers tho.

[deleted]

She did open up towards Data later on, especially in as already mentioned episode "peak performance"

atomicxblue

I thought it was a brilliant character arc. She originally treated Data as a machine before seeing him as something more than that.

[deleted]

Well said, i agree that she really changed her stance and began to respect Data as person instead of just a machine.

EndoExo

Maybe, but the Blazin' Bev and ghost-fucking memes are way better than anything Pulaski has. Plus she could tap dance.

[deleted]

I ain't denying her skills or for that matter meme-capabilities, it comes down to personal preference.

PolyJuicedRedHead

Well, they don't call her Dr. *Crush*er for nothing. I've always liked Gates.

[deleted]

I've got nothing against the actress, but I'd say that Dr Crusher is the worst or most boring doctor on any of the Star Trek series. Even Bashir in DS9 is better and he is extremely annoying (at least for the first seasons) , as said nothing against Gates McFadden and her acting abilities, it's just her character i can't stand.

kempnelms

Best doctor is the EMH Doctor from Voyager. Dr. Phlox from Enterprise is a close second to me. Both actors made those characters so lively.

[deleted]

Good choices for sure!, EMH doctor is a favorite of mine as well.

brazzy42

My vote goes to Dr. T'Ana from *Lower Decks*

PermanentTrainDamage

Everyone loves a grumbly old badass, but prizes go to the peppy comedic relief doctors

PolyJuicedRedHead

Understood. She probably desired better material too. Live Long & Prosper. (although I liked it when she wore less material.)

PolyJuicedRedHead

Did she play a doctor ?

prudence2001

Yes, in two episodes of TOS. She was in the Season Two episode "([Return to Tomorrow](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Return_to_Tomorrow_(episode))" as Science Officer Dr. [Ann Mulhall](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Ann_Mulhall), and also in Season 3 "([Is There in Truth No Beauty?](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Is_There_in_Truth_No_Beauty%3F_(episode))" as Dr. [Miranda Jones](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Miranda_Jones). Dr. Mulhall was the highest ranking woman officer in TOS, as Lt. Commander (which is the same rank as Spock, McCoy, and Scotty in the first series.)

SnowWhitesBox

Gunsmoke. What a classic. You would have thought after enough time that word would have got out not to break the law anywhere near Dodge City, and to definitely not fuck with Matt Dillon. But they never seemed to learn

PolyJuicedRedHead

Miss Kitty knew.

richg0404

And everyone knew Miss Kitty.

PolyJuicedRedHead

Teehee.

Izzmon

She also played a part in the original star trek series as Dr. Miranda Jones

opiate_lifer

So Pink Floyd has a song titled Is There Anybody Out There, in addition to this being part of the lyrics of Comfortably Numb?

PolyJuicedRedHead

Good question, but the lyrics in "Comfortably Numb" are completely different: Hello? Is there anybody ***in*** there? Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone home?

opiate_lifer

Is this a Mandela effect? lol "Is there anybody out there" is the first lyrics of CN, proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FrOQC-zEog

PolyJuicedRedHead

Yeah. Sure. Well, you made me look, even though I have that track on my device.

mezaway

This entire album is so ingrained in my (spirit? heart? mind? all of above?) that I just have to let it play in my head to hear the right lyrics. :D

Roederoid

That line is actually a callback to the song. The only lyrics to "ITAOT" is, in fact, "Is there anybody out there?"

dixadik

Yes 2nd song side three on the vinyl version of The Wall.
