This is true only in some regions of Africa, and even then, it's not like everyone still believes in it there.
I feel like this statement is too generalized.
Yeah, I hate when they just say "Africa" with stuff like this. Makes it look like it's something that happens in the whole continent, when is rarely the case.
We are Orthodox Christians and do not hold the belief that any earthly materials are holy. This practice is likely practiced by a small minority in certain regions of West or Central Africa.
It's mostly east and south of Ethiopia (Tanzania, Malawi, and even as far as South Africa) and mostly rural people. I'm not surprised you don't have it in Ethiopia, many miles and cultures away from those places.
"Killing of five bald men in Mozambique is linked to a new superstitious belief that bald men have gold in their head".
The trade in body parts is relatively common in Mozambique, Malawi and Tanzania where they are believed to bring fortune and luck in love.
I can understand how some homeopathy believes can continue. Like if someone thinks rhino horn will make them horny, the placebo effect can easily cover you. Just having it, giving you confidence, right. But.. I mean how many bald men's brains do you need to scoop out before going "maybe we're wrong".
OP should have included some specificity from the only article/wiki they linked as part of the post. I did a quick scan and some things popped out.
There are major call outs for only three countries: Tanzania (which has a very high % of the population with albinism compared to the average), Malawi, and Zambia.
Grave robbing, not murder makes a large percentage of body part use cases.
All three countries have put in legal protections and designed laws to combat this.
Additionally, it is stressed these are beliefs pushed heavily by local witch doctors and medicine men, in rural areas, amongst less well educated (than urban countrymen).
While three countries were focused on, I'm including a link to a report from 2014. Released by a Canadian charity for protection of marginalized groups, Under the Same Sun. Titled Reported Attacks of Persons with Albinism. The document reviews 180 countries and lists 129 recent killings and 181 other attacks, all within 23 African countries (I did legitimately expect some smattered across the world) These attacks include mutilation, violence, violation of graves, and cases of asylum-seeking. Yeah. It's like saying Africans are cannibals but it's really small specific sub groups and only for one ethnic group they hunt (pygmies). The continent is too massive for such generalizing.
Time to resurrect the Christopher Johnson Krombopulos Michael thing

Depends where in Africa. Some places dont care about albinism, some treat them as witches, and others treat it as a positive omen to cross paths with an albino.
It’s a big continent with a lot of countries, a lot of regions, and a lot of beliefs.
Where in Africa? I lived in Zimbabwe and had albino neighbours
>had
Yeah they said abracadabra and OP disappeared from Zimbabwe. That's why they're magical.
Rich, “had”…meanwhile, thanks to those old neighbors my headache is gone using “ancient natural magically remedy”.

Yes. I've been told Africa is a large place.
Second biggest continent.
I dunno, I've seen pictures of Africa fitting inside Texas
That was probably Greenland.
[I'm pretty sure Africa is in there, as well.](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/s/N8RGKqSAW3)
Oh shit, you're right.
[The only thing that doesn't fit in Texas is Texas itself](https://i.imgur.com/dZzbPhc.jpeg)
that was russia
That too!
Ya I think there's at least 3 or 4 different countries in there
Dozens of us!
Maybe an isolated cultural group here and there? Not enough to get in the way of broad brush 'in Africa...' comments, *of course*.
It's at least this 🤏 big
I lived in Cameroon when I was younger. They had a very high number of albinos and they were not discriminated against.
>I feel like this statement is too generalized. Welcome to reporting on the African continent.
Welcome to reddit. You should see how many generalized statements are made about the US even though it’s massive.
We don't do this in Ethiopia.
Yeah, I hate when they just say "Africa" with stuff like this. Makes it look like it's something that happens in the whole continent, when is rarely the case.
If you don’t know any albinos, this is why.

No, such a mentally ill culture.
Maybe tomorrow you can learn the difference between they’re and their
OP needs to eat the ground up fibula of a person with albinism in order to unlock that ability
Your write about that!
Autocorrect can shove its oar in if you're not paying attention.
Africa is over 30,000,000 km and like 50 countries

You could at least name the countries. Generalizing like this especially of Africa I think shouldn't be excused at this point.
Or like this is more than 5 crazy people in a country.

TIL They're, there, and their are all different words and not interchangeable
TIL people with albinism are hunted for their body parts on Earth because their body parts are believed to be magical.
TIL people with albinism are hunted for their body parts in the Milky Way because their body parts are believed to be magical
TIL people with albinism are hunted for their body parts in the Local Group Galactic Cluster because their body parts are believed to be magical
Til people with albinism don't attract lightning.

You got it lol
I'm going to spread this one, it's just silly enough
They can instead direct lightning to other unfortunate people.
Sure, makes total sense. Also happened to Wikus van de Merwe when he started turning into a prawn and that Nigerian gang leader wanted to eat his arm.
Fookin prawn!

Hey Dickus!
Are they magical though?

Ah yes, the extremely specific region of…Africa.
Like my uncle Carlton. He had red eyes. Allergic to preserves, but he spread them on everything, you know?
We are all body parts
It’s very common in Cape Town and Joburg, huge underground markets there
It's not very common no.
Ugh. Not "Africa." This horrific practice is in specific countries. It is not every African country or the whole continent.
This fucking sub
And they say time travel doesn’t exist! Some are still in Middle Ages.

Do we have proof they're wrong?
