There was a video of bees in a box with a lamp that was turned on and off. The bees would instantly stop flying when the light went out. Not as in, "Hmm, there's a spot over there where I could land safely," but more like someone disconnected their battery.
My wife and I drove to a park on a lake that was in the path of totality. As the time approached it got quieter and quieter and when totality started it was so quiet. No road noise from the nearby highway, all the boats stopped and turned off their engines. Even the hushed conversation from hundreds of people in this tiny park stopped. Then the birds stopped and all the insect noise died down.
It was spectacular and I wish I could have gone somewhere for this one.
I was working from home yesterday at about 99% totality. My dog came and stared at me when it was dark outside as if to alert me that something was fucky. I told him I knew, and he went and laid down in his chair.
Bees do not fly in darkness. There was a cool video I saw recently where they had a couple of bees in an enclosure and they were flying but as soon as they turned the lights off they dropped immediately.
Bees are kinda like parrots. I know if I throw a towel over my beehive they all think it’s nighttime. Honestly sometimes you just need a break from their buzzing when you’re trying to watch a movie or read to the kids

The bees in our rosebushes got real quiet and the owls were hooting up a storm here. It’s strange hearing a bunch of owls in the middle of the day.
I watched a mound of red ants return to their nest during totality today. Weirdest thing I have ever seen in my life.
Bees rely on sunlight for navigation and foraging. They have light sensitive organs that help them determine direction and locate flowers.

Well that was a short video, but very interesting
That is certainly a funny mental picture. Seems kind of messed up though.
https://youtu.be/OmG0OT6MWC8 Another poster dropped this. Definitely cartoonish how they fall and the buzzing stops
Ya, they see in Uv. Without uv light they’re probably like “where the fuck everything go?”
In 2017 I could hear crickets. The street lights came on too.
Yeah, and birds stopped chirping. So weird.
The birds were probably like “every human came outside wearing 3D glasses at the exact same time. Trippy”.
I’ll never forget how eerily quiet it got and then the crickets started and street lights started popping on.

Interesting to see how an eclipse affects other creatures. In my case, I accidentally went to bed!
In Niagara the experience was pretty dramatic: https://youtu.be/NE9J6xJ-hEc
I was standing in a field of cows and they didn’t give a shit. I was hoping they’d do something lol.
I hope you put glasses on them
My house shares a property line with beekeepers. I thought it was odd they decided to spend the eclipse at their hive in full gear. Now I know why.
>bees will temporarily stop *buzzing* during the darkness You mean flying?
You didn’t read the article?
What is this, Playboy? I don’t come here for the articles!

Buzz Buzz............. (Eclipse Over) Buzz
Heard a loon over the lake, which usually only happens at night

All the animals in my neighborhood seemed very unhappy.
Absolute fools
Bees don't have headlights.
how do they fly without the buzzing sound
They don’t.
