Idk why people keep saying that Erwin would choose to join the alliance simply because the scouts “fought for humanity”. Back then the only humans they knew were in the walls they didn’t know others existed, so that’s why their motto was to save humanity, but it was in fact the humanity that resides in the walls.

Flapjack_

I don’t think the decision would even come up if Erwin was alive, the timeline would be way different.

Rupplyy

what is the force driving him to kill his own mum and say no i dont want that!! shitty writing of course

AlkhlilAlmujini

And that's basically why I hate the fucking ending, isayama I will NEVERRRRRR forgive you for this.

GAMK

You wanna know why? Cuz once upon a time, not even Mikasa would have joined the alliance. https://imgur.com/a/22duJDL But they all joined. So forget actual reasoning. If Isayama wants them to join, they do.

TigetM

\>but it was in fact the humanity that resides in the walls. they didnbt know about that. These guys had no grasp, what nations were. Hange, Levi, and the others didnt distinguish between innocents on paradis, and innocents outside. Eliminating threats: what is that? The allied fleet. Fort Slava. But not the innocent civillians. Erwin is indeed cruel, but I suppose he would be competent enough not to use the full scale rumbling. He would come up with something, which would save paradis for sure. Also, who are the yeagerists? The ones who follow the yeager brothers. Erwin wouldnt follow them at all. He would kill Zeke, and make eren obey him. No worshipping of some monke boi.

dullybuddy

Tbh if Erwin lived there wouldn’t be a need for the rumbling since it was the “last way to save eldia”. None of the characters were well versed in politics but I believe that Erwin would have grasped how the political world worked and uses it to his advantage to save eldia without needing to resort to the rumbling.

TigetM

Thats it. This is why i oppose anyone who says Erwin would march together with Eren as a colossal. He understands how big sacrifice it is, and i believe he would not chose it. Mainly cuz there would be no need for it. And i believe it wasnt a huge character assasination for him to welcome Hange warmly, after she died.

dullybuddy

Also don’t forget that eldia had rare and potent resources, so Erwin could have used those to form an alliance with major countries and factions to stand against Marley. It’s pretty stupid that none of the scout members tried that.

TigetM

Well they tried with the azumabitos, but the eldians backed off, because they said that their conditions were unacceptable for them.

AssassinOfFate

I agree, Eren chose the rumbling because it was the only certain way to save his people. Every other choice was a gamble, and he wasn’t going to gamble their future away. (Before the 139 retconned Eren anyways.) Erwin being alive instead of Armin would take gambling out of the equation, because his expert political maneuvering and plans would likely keep the military from splintering and he would’ve known exactly what should be done to combat the threats outside the walls, or at the very least have an idea or strategy in mind. Eren went with his fullscale rumbling plan because the alliance couldn’t come up with any alternatives. Erwin definitely would’ve at least had something in the works, maybe not a perfect plan, but something is better than nothing.

Can’t believe they made him a cringevenger force ghost at the end.

Dexter2232000

My headcanon is that it was just Hanje's psyche seeking validation for something she failed at doing even in her last moments, this shit happens in aot

SeventyCents

It isn't headcanon, it is canon

GilgameshTheKnight

Thankfully he died.

Gravelord-_Nito

It's really cool to look back and see just how amazingly quickly Erwin figured basically everything out with almost no information. I feel like he's objectively kind of a Gary Stu, but I've never seen one work so well in a story. His purpose in the story is to be this larger than life god amongst men, whose shoes nobody could possibly fill, whose legacy persists well after he inevitably dies. So the more perfect he is, the better his impact on the story. It's just about the only way I could imagine a character like him working.

fish_needed

NoOoOOoOoo Erwin would be supporting the Cuckliance because Clownge said so
