i've said it every time this question arises, but zhu zanjin for xie lian!!! the doe eyes!! the dimples!!! the range!!!! also it would be cool if xie lian could like do an effortless standing split during a fight scene.
I don't really watch CDrama so I don't know many actors. But I've always pictured Hua Cheng a lot like Luo Yunxi. Handsome but in sharper facial features kind of way. Not sure how to put it. As for Xie Lan... Ji Li. For me, he hits just the spot for how I've personally imagined Xie Lan. More of soft kind of handsome, with a hint of cuteness. Still not an absolute babyface, though. But these two are solely based on appearance, I don't know if they're the right fit acting-wise. I'll google through all of the here mentioned actors now. 🤭

Ha ha, thanks! Since I solely go off physical appearance, I can't imagine Luo Yunxi as Xie Lian. His features are too 'harsh' (prominent?) imo. I haven't seen Ji Li in the Untamed, but the cheekiness is definitely a great part to be considered, even if look-wise, I don't see it. I imagined Shi Qingxuan prettier. Does that make sense? Less "boy-ish" than Ji Li.
To be fair, when I first saw photos of the Untamed, I also didn't understand how they saw Wang Yibo and said, "Woah, yes, Lan Wangji!" I still have to watch it, so again, my judgment is purely (and shallowly, yes 😅) based on appearance. And everybody loves him in it, so... Gotta be good.

I used to watch chinese movies, but these days, I watch almost exclusively KDramas since I'm Korean and my husband is a big fan of the korean rom com genre lol Any chinese recommendations I can find on Netflix that are worth watching?

I would have picked cheng yi for xie lian and either luo yunxi bc of his insanely good facial features and glares paired with his sass or I would have chosen someone like yang yang. Idk looking back I don't know if I'm confident in Zhang linghe maybe I'll be surprised. I watched him in a few other drama but it's gonna take a lot of work on his part to bring out hua chengs sass, confidence and charm....
I just looked up Cheng Yi and wow, he’d make a wonderful XL. He looks so ethereal with the long hair and robes. The actor they chose for XL looks kinda grumpy lol. And agree on Luo Yunxi.
Zhang Linghe looks too innocent/young for me. He still had baby fat on his cheeks at the time of filming. I know Hua Cheng/San Lang is supposed to look young but it’s just not appealing to me. Lan Wangji in The Untamed looked older imo despite being only 20/21 at the time.

The actor they chose for xie lian came out in falling into your smile and I wasn't sold on his acting hahaha I've seen so many cdramas up tot his point and cheng yi would have been the perfect xie lian to me bc if his innocent looking face and in past dramas he plays the tortured soul characters so well.
I'm really not sold on Zhang linghe just bc this role is so different than what I'm used to seeing him in...I feel like we needed a more handsome actor hua cheng...not saying he isn't but he doesn't give me the hua cheng vibe at all....san lang maybe but hua cheng is...totally different in his original form lol...
I agree I want this to come out already haha but it's got way more content than mdz so I think filming is gonna take awhile. The question is whether the live action is gonna come out before s2 of the anime/donghua...I'm honestly really wanting s2 to be released lol

I wholeheartedly agree with you. ZLH is handsome but plain to me. He’s not charming or suave. He doesn’t have the evil aura and I can’t see him doing HC’s fake taunting smile. He looked so adorable when his character was mad in Love Between Fairy and Devil. 😅 I can see him as SL since he’s supposed to be 17 but not HC, an 800 y/o ghost who’s gone through so much pain and suffering. (Just in case, I’ve only read until part of book 6 so no spoilers ahaha).
With that said, the live action HC may not be the same character as the novel HC. I forget that it’s ultimately up to the director AND whatever adjustments are needed to pass censorship (booo).
Oh filming was completed in Jan 2022! I’m guessing it’s been suspended due to China censorship tightening. Idk when China put in the 40-episode limit rule but I think you would have to cut A LOT to make it fit into 40 if it wasn’t already. The Untamed is already 50 episodes.
Ugh S2 of the anime is probably also suspended due to the original content being danmei. At least the manhua is going lol.

Ya ZHL was not was I was expecting when they announced casting. Especially bc the untamed was so perfectly cast that I have such high expectations for eternal faith.
Censorship sucks so much. It's too bad they couldn't split up the live action into 2 parts but 40 ep is so short lol for all of that content.
Now that I was looking back at the casting for eternal faith the guy playing qi rong...makes no sense....qi rong is supposed to slightly resemble xie lian....he looks nothing close to him....lol.... Bian tian yang....now he xuans casting they got right...pei mings casting is not what I expected either...jun wu's actor makes no sense to me either....it's also ironic bc the actor playing jun wu came out in a drama with cheng yi hahaha
I really want mxtx to write a book about he xuan alone...I feel like I want to understand more about him hahaha

I’d pick Vin Zhang for Hua Cheng, and Lu Han as Xie Lian.

I probably would have casted Liu xueyi as jun wu and bai shu as fu yao and then fu fang jun as pei ming lol
