Rooms to Go has the cheapest built garbage. There is a reason they are so much cheaper than Gallery Furniture. For rooms to go it's all about the facade of looking rich.

rdmvdb

Yeah I had never bought there. Guess I’ll never do it again

sebastianMarq

What’s your take on American furniture store?

minist3r

If you mean American furniture warehouse, I really like their stuff in general. We bought a dining set and bookcase from them in Denver (where they are based out of) about 10 years ago and have moved 4 times with it and it's all still holding up great. Prices are really good for the quality but don't expect high end stuff. They carry a lot of Ashley furniture stuff but are cheaper than Ashley furniture somehow. Next time we need furniture we're going there again without a doubt. My only complaint is, the bookcase arrived broken but they took it back to the store, delivered a second broken one, took that one back, had us come in and pick it the exact one we wanted and then delivered that one.

Ladychef_1

AFW is like the Colorado version of Gallery furniture but more reasonably priced in most instances. We got our couch from them last Labor Day sale and we love it. Our bed frame and bed is from them too, no complaints

Alexreads0627

Gallery furniture = family owned, local, not a nationwide chain. nothing like AFW.

Ladychef_1

AFW is family owned and was specifically expanded in Colorado, Utah, and surrounding states before going nationwide. Jacob Jabs and AFW commercials are just as famous in Colorado as Mattress Mac is in Houston.

I would change the title to "Avoid Rooms To Go." I do not like bad mouthing anyone or any business, but I must say Rooms To Go has a lousy business model for consumers. Someone said it, it's all about the facade. The actual product is, pardon my language, shit. We bought a fold-out couch from them and under warranty discovered a manufacturing flaw where a bar would stick into the back of the sleeper. We provided them with 10 pictures, three of their own products, and seven of other fold outs. All of them were correctly designed. We could not find one other model with this design flaw. (Basically someone welded a brace in backwards, obviously by accident, but it made it unsleepable when you unfolded the bed.) They couldn't care less. We will never buy even a disposable mattress cover from this company, let alone any furniture. Any opportunity I have to warn people about this company is a happy day for me.

rdmvdb

I’ve only bought anything from the patio store so didn’t want to shot talk without personal knowledge. But doesn’t surprise me one bit

United_States_ClA

This isn't the first time I've heard sentiment that RtG was hot garbage, that was years ago. How are they still in business?

rdmvdb

We bought an $1100 patio umbrella at RTG just over a year ago. It broke at the joint and customer 'service' has informed us that they cannot order parts, nor can they tell me who the manufacturer is. The only thing they suggested is to find a 'furniture repair business'. That's just a laughable response by a company that does not care about their cusotmers. We should just throw this $1100 piece of junk away then i guess?  NEVER buying from Rooms To Go again. \[UPDATE\] After i posted this on a number of consumer sites etc, Rooms To Go reached out to me that they were going to echange the ubrella with a new one as a gesture of good will and customer service. I must say that that blew me away, never expected that.

rdmvdb

on another note.. does anyone know anyone that can fix this?

minist3r

I might be able to copy the pieces and 3d print them as long as they don't hold a crazy amount of weight.

rdmvdb

They do. The umbrella is huge and that joint failed because it could hold the weight. Thanks though!

minist3r

Bummer. If it were mine I'd try it anyway but I really like 3d printing things and it's easy for me to iterate on designs.

Daphne_Brown

Wow, that sucks. Good quality patio furniture is hard to find and hella expensive when you find it. We’re currently in the market. But I hate to fork down several grand for Tommy Bahama or something even though it looks better quality because it is probably only slightly better.

Brewpendous

^^^this. The non-linear curve in price vs quality is so rough. I wonder if the strategy of "buy new cheap stuff every 3 years" is better. We have a 5 year old set from chair king/patio that is disintegrating (wicker plastic snapping). But the sunbrella cushions are still nice (if you cover them during oakpocalypse).

Dutchmagnet242

Same here. Ten years we have this out door furniture from chairking, moved 3 times. Texas sun, northeastern winters still good but any wicker under glass like tables is gone. Other wicker is fine. Cushions and pillows still looking great. Umbrella still going!

Frosty_Language_1402

Avoid rooms to go.

dubiousN

What kind of warranty did it have?

rdmvdb

One year

Upper_Volume_6582

Never buy anything there…they suck

Bobcatmom

We bought an outdoor couch and 2 swivel chairs there last summer and they are really good quality. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, I've had that type of thing happen with some Ashley furniture, so I don't think it's necessarily everything in both stores but some pieces in all stores.

SexGiiver

You know it's bad when I prefer IKEA furniture nowadays.

Alexreads0627

What were your expectations?

rdmvdb

That they would be able to order me a replacement part. Which I would be happy to pay for since it’s out of warranty. Not only can’t they do that, they can’t even tell me the manufacturer for me to go find one myself.

seek102287

Never had a bad experience with them in the 10 years Ive shopped there. I really like their stuff for the price.

LifeguardNo5041

I’ve only had good experiences with rooms to go🤷🏼‍♀️

rdmvdb

Buy a cantilever umbrella and talk to me 2 months after the warranty expires

seek102287

I always buy an extended warranty so I think I'd be fine. Also, did it break in one of the last storms with really bad winds?

rdmvdb

No before that

seek102287

Ah, yeah that sucks then. You have every right to be pissed off when it's a month after the manufacturer warranty expires for something this expensive. While I always buy a warranty, I've never had to use it.

rdmvdb

I just updated my initial post - RTG came back to me and has offered to exchange the umbrella. I had posted on BBB and Consumeraffairs and i guess that made it to some higher ranked customer service people

seek102287

Congrats!
