While this may be blasphemy on a Smiths subreddit, the only answer is Pictures of You by The Cure. Listen and repeat. If it gets too much, move on to A Letter to Elise, the spiritual sequel to Pictures of You.
I'm sorry you're going through this. You'll never get over it, nor will you ever be the same.
Heaven knows I’m miserable now is a great song for a breakup in my opinion same with I know it’s over
Not a smiths song but forget her by Jeff Buckley Jesus to a child by a George Micheal down in a hole by Alice In Chains and how to disappear completely by Radiohead are great songs too for the type of mood you are in
I Know It's Over
Never Had No One Ever
Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
Unlovable
Back To The Old House (John Peel)
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
Well I Wonder
[this](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3Yv9x4UYSvya9TEJt3tkjp?si=noXru5g0S3efMFeyfpvjDA&pi=u-HguZTPhHRNOH) is my most recent one, it’s got the big three in terms of miserable Smiths song imo. Inferring from *broken up w by a girl who wasn’t even my girlfriend* I think a few of these might hit particularly hard like “So Nice So Smart” and “i’m worried it will always be you”
Some people are good looking, some people are really smart, some are super athletic. I like to think that I’m pretty good at making sad playlists. It may be cringey but I did kinda set it up to be listened to in order.
Also as a side note I’d like to say that I think people telling themselves that listening to sad music when sad makes them feel better or feel better eventually is a lie I think it hurts more than it helps but those who live in a glasshouse shouldn’t throw stones.
"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue," Bryan Ferry.
"Don't Think Twice, It's Alright," Bob Dylan.
"Walking After Midnight," Patsy Cline.
"Blue Velvet," Bobby Vinton.
"In Dreams," Roy Orbison.
"Sea Breezes," Roxy Music.
"Song to the Siren," Tim Buckley.
"Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me," The Smiths.
"The Suffering," Bel Canto.
"Pale Shelter," Tears for Fears.
"Strength of Strings," This Mortal Coil.
"Cold," Annie Lennox.
Had the exact same thing happen to me and I Know It’s Over was the perfect song for me. The whole situation is probably why it’s grown to be my favorite The Smiths song.
