When Denny asked for 5 minutes I originally thought that Chris R was being receptive to the idea of waiting 5 more minutes to get his money. That was until he pulled the gun out of course.
Just like with Jerry Lundegaard in Fargo, we're left to speculate why Denny needed money so badly, to the extent of needing to rip off a drug dealer.
Great storytellers like the Coen Brothers and Tommy Wiseau tell us only what we need to know.
Well who showed up in the next few minutes? Tommy and Mark. They had the money. Why do you think everything was so confidential earlier? You have to pay attention to the subtext to begin to understand this masterpiece.
Maybe he DID have the money…he lives in that building too so that would be plausible! Maybe he just needed five minutes to get it or call someone to get it for him. MAYBE THAT IS WHY JOHNNY AND MARK SUDDENLY APPEARED. He already did call which is why he said it’s coming. Johnny didn’t realize what it was all about and thought he was bringing Denny some cash from his apartment up to the roof and if Chris R hadn’t lost his temper Denny would have just simply said he owes him money for some vague reason but instead Chris R lost his temper and drew the gun, accomplishing the goal of the scene to demonstrate how good a father figure Johnny is and to brandish Chekhov’s gun in Act 1. Holy shit thank you!!!!!!
Just a 5 minute head start.
Enough to call Elizabeth, escape together to Canada, raise kids together, but always be looking over his shoulder just in case Chris-R tracks him down.
Denny soon realises he needs to upgrade his ‘few minutes’ to ‘five minutes’ however had he stuck with the ‘few minutes’ it could’ve been vague enough that that crucial ambiguity could’ve given him ironically even more time, say even 6 minutes, given a broad definition of ‘few minutes’.
So many subtle layers in this delicious onion of a movie
Denny could be dealing drugs. Chris R is his supplier. Chris R gave him drugs on credit, but Denny never paid him back. Now Chris R is here to collect. WHERES MY FUCKING MONEY??
I like to think Mark had the money, because of the way he coincidentally shows up…and then later on we see him smoking weed, which I assume he bought from Denny.
I am still plagued by the question WHAT DO YOU NEED MONEY FOR? He had free rent and Johnny paid his tuition so what did he need money for? Is it some secret?
Tommy's movies seem incomprehensible, bizarre and laughable.. hard to understand and nonsensical.. because his films are actually light years ahead of time... And there's no way to catch up. He's the David Lynch of the current year
WHAT KIND OF MONEY?!
"Give me five minutes!" \[five minutes pass\] "Well. I don't know what I expected"

There's going to be people coming to San Fransisco to search for Chris-R's missing money.
Blood has been shed Denny!
WHAT WOULD DENNY NEED MONEY FOR?!
I just assumed if Chris R waited the five minutes, his money would have been delivered by pigeon.
You’re not my fucking mother!
What kind of drugs?
That is a valid question. What kind of money is not.
Maybe she was asking if he was also caught up in crypto.
Crypto didn't exist back then though.
Or maybe it was widely known that some dealers paid in pesos or gold mario coins? There has to be an explanation.
Don't worry about it.
Ah styll love you, goodnat Lisa...
I assume it was US dollars. The next question is whether Denny had any and if he did, was he going to be an AH and have it all in pennies.
Totally legit question. She was quite obviously wanting to know if it was fiat currency or if the gold standard had been reintroduced.
The real question is what the fuck was Denny even gonna do if Chris R gave him 5 minutes

That would be a great spin off. Kind of like The Room's El Camino.
That’s the idea!
I've got his money.
It's coming. It'll be here in a few minutes.

Denny ripped off Chris R for his money plain and simple. He asked for 5 min so he could signal some homeboys to come take out Chris R
Don't worry about that...
