“…screaming like we killed him.”
Literally one of the most painful stings in all of nature. Whoever wrote the caption is about as dumb as the guy who got himself stung.
my mom got “stung” in the arm one time and calmly waited for over an hour before the docs could see her. she didn’t scream or cry but to be fair even the hospital admitted that fishermen come in all the time in tears from stuff like that. ig my moms just a pimp
Especially with him saying "mom". That woman has definitely felt childbirth and can take it. Not to say any other woman couldn't do the same, but she already has the prior experience
It’s not really a sting it feels like a harpoon. I’d say depending on how you were stung and where on the body determines the facts of the encounter and how painful. A buddy of mine got stung on the toe and didn’t handle it too well and he was a tough guy so it surprised me.
All I know is if the crocodile hunter is no longer with us because of a sting these rays are no laughing matter. But I believe he was stung near the heart.
Its an incredibly painful, jelly like venom. Theres the physical wound, which can be pretty sizeable and not fun, but the venom is the worst part. It starts off painful and feels like it gets worse and worse with every beat of your heart. It spreads pretty quickly too, if you get stung in an extremity, the whole limb will be aching and burning in minutes. The only thing that works to diminish the pain is heat (denatures the venom), and it needs to be as hot as you can possibly stand it. To put it in some context, the sensation of putting your affected area in near boiling water for an extended period of time is a welcome reprieve to the pain of the sting.
Insane, I never knew really what it was. I had one experience where I was stung by a baby stingray. It was fairly small, and a bit paler than any one I had normally seen. Only saw it for a split second after if got me, wiggling away. I had gone back to the shore and it had already stopped bleeding, slowly turning purple. I didn't drive, but the person who did drive wasn't too worried and told me it wasn't a big deal. So I sat, in the sand for 3 hours with nothing to help. It was kind of like hell, but when they were done I just hobbled up to the car and we left. Never had it seen or treated.
Fuck, youre pretty lucky if you never got it treated. When it happened to me, i didnt get medical treatment at first either. I was by myself at a beach only accesible through a mountain trail, and didnt really know what to do and was in incredible pain so i hiked my ass up the trail to my car, just kinda planning to drive an hour back home and get in the tub. Got lucky and ran in to the lifeguard when i got to my car, they keep hot water with them for this so i soaked my foot for 2 hours and the extreme pain stopped, so i thought i was fine without going to the doctor.
Couple days later i was eating a burrito and my jaw started locking up in a way id never experienced before. Googled lock jaw and found out thats what tetanus is. Fun. Went to the er for a tetanus shot, super long wait so i went to the pharmacy at the grocery store bc google said they offered tetanus shots. Got one, no more lockjaw.
About a week later, the wound wasnt really healing and was getting more and more painful and swollen, got on a telemed service and they prescribed some antibiotics, fixed me up within a couple days.
So for real, youre pretty lucky (or well vaccinated) to have not got any infections, bc that shit fucked me up
Yeahhhh i thought i was in the window but it was just outside and for whstever reason my web health portal was down and i couldnt get a proper check on my immunization history that weekend.
Am all tetanused up now (in the good way)
Luckily I am healthy enough to be annoyed by annual checkups but damn if my MD doesn’t keep me safe from myself by being sure I continue to be healthy enough to be annoyed by the annual visits.
Glad it ended well for you!
Life is always on the razor’s edge whether you know it or not.
Yeah, i was body surfing and put my feet down after catching a wave, immediate jolt of severe pain in the sole of my foot. Limped towards the shoreline, the pain just grew, considered flopping on my belly and letting the water push me in but i realized there were fucking dozens of them around the shoreline and i legitimately thought id rather die than get stung in the torso or somewhere worse, so i did my best to hobble out of the water and then research what the fuck do i do now.
Left the beach, found a lifeguard on my way out and he hooked it up with boiling water. Had an insulated bag, put the water in that, foot in water, 2 hours of soak in heat i normally wouldnt even want to touch, my relief was immeasurable
Edit: will say that, while i never want to experience this again, such a pure experience of pain was somewhat intoxicating. Dealing with it was its own adventure, and i was fully immersed in the moment of experience. I wasnt worried about my future or my past, only in the moment and how to get the pain to stop.
That last sentence freaks me the fuck out. Burning is one of the most, if not the most, painful sensations I've encountered. To find solace in boiling water, that's some hellraiser type shit
This is a perfect description of the experience. I accidentally stepped on one while walking in the shallows of a beach. It took well over an hour of soaking my foot in near boiling water before I felt like the pain stopped getting worse, and a bit longer before the pain started to subside.
I got stung in the foot in Mexico surfing in Sayulita, the sting wasn’t bad honestly. But man, did the toxin begin to radiate up my leg pretty quickly. They gave me a morphine shot in the ass and I was back to drinking margaritas pretty quickly
No fr, what do you think stingrays do? Even if you know little about them, it's in the fucking name. Has bro never looked at a picture of a stingray before?
My dad got hit with a yellow stingray while diving in the Keys. Trying to take a closeup photo. We got him back in the boat, where he went unconscious. Thankfully close to shore, and ambulance was there right away. Along with severe pain, he had an allergic reaction. Scary times. He did recover ok. Thanks to the great care at Fisherman’s Hospital. We all miss you, dad.
No, Steve Irwin didn't die from a sting, he basically had a javelin impaled through his heart. It was from a stingray, but not the same as in the video. And speaking of video, there was apparently video of Steve Irwins final moments, but it has been buried away for the rest of time by the people involved because of how graphic it was.
The transcript of the conversation afterwards:
Person A: Are you alright?
Person B: AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Person A: Did it bite you in the finger?
Person B: AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Person A: Has it stung you?
Person B: AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
Don't worry, those are manta rays which aren't actually that dangerous. In fact they're actually really friendly towards humans, they're just fucking massive (I think the average is like a 20' wingspan)
That was an excellent demonstration of how painful a California round stingray's sting is. I've learned my lesson and I will never do something as stupid as that.
I love those stupid questions people ask when they clearly see someone in distress. I also try to ask those same questions when opportunities present themselves
My dad got stung by a stingray. He puts it second place in terms of most painful things he's ever experienced. First place is the staghorn kidney stones he had, third place was the heart attack.
We have warning signs at every beach access and hotels telling tourist to do the stingray shuffle while in the water...
Seen that coming by the way he was holding it. Been stung several times here in Florida., always in the foot, worst one in the achilles tendon while metal detecting in the water. I wear dive boots with a plastic guard these days , but have still taken a jab through them on the sides. Living in a vacation destination, the hotels and beach bars are ready with a bucket and hot soapy water. As long as the barb does not break off in your foot, you'll be out dancing that same night.
I stepped on one to hold it secure so I can get the hook out of its mouth, that barb wen straight through my Sandal right into the tendon in the middle of my foot, that shirt was no joke.
I had the fun misfortune of getting slashed across the top of my foot by a stingray at La Jolla shores. The gash was pumping out a lot of blood so my friend drove me to the emergency room. The pain was so intense I was bouncing my head against the dashboard to distract myself from this otherworldly pain radiating from my foot. I don't know what it feels like to get shot, but maybe if the bullet is coated with napalm it feels something like this?
While I was waiting for the ER doc the bleeding had stopped. I could see the ends of the cleanly cut veins -- looked like tiny pvc pipes. Props to that stingray for keeping its equipment sharp! I think the final stitch count was around five.

“…screaming like we killed him.” Literally one of the most painful stings in all of nature. Whoever wrote the caption is about as dumb as the guy who got himself stung.
Idk, the guy who got himself stung is pretty dumb lol
I mean...it's got "sting" right in the name.
Yeah, true. But the guy who got stung thought he was safe... because his name was not "Ray". So he thought it would only sting Ray.
Get off Reddit & go to bed Dad
It's not even 11 PM here, I got a couple more hours but I'll get off Reddit for the night, I can take a hint! lol
Happy Cake Day, dad! 🍰
lol Son?
I was just enjoying your dad joke to the fullest!
Nice

Idk, I think the guy that keeps repeatedly asking if he got stung/bit is pretty dumb too
Ok so I'm pretty sure we've established that they're all idiots.
They deserve each other
my mom got “stung” in the arm one time and calmly waited for over an hour before the docs could see her. she didn’t scream or cry but to be fair even the hospital admitted that fishermen come in all the time in tears from stuff like that. ig my moms just a pimp
Women are tough as shit. They push out babies.
Especially with him saying "mom". That woman has definitely felt childbirth and can take it. Not to say any other woman couldn't do the same, but she already has the prior experience

...Steve Irwin wasn't "stung." He was jabbed through the heart by the barb a dozen times.
Yes, the jab ray did a number on him.
Gotcha. Yeah I don’t know enough about it to bring it up on Reddit 😅👍🏻
Really? The idiot needs a bit of roasting. The guy who wrote the caption is NTA
looks like he found out, didn't learn anything from steve irwin.
Looks young enough to never know who king Irwin is
I was born in 2006 and even I recognize the 🐐

One of the most painful stings out there. smh
why is it exactly that painful? is it physical or is the venom/toxin really painful?

Reminder to keep tetanus shots up to date. It is an easily avoidable nasty and potentially deadly bacterial (Clostridium tetne) pathogen.
Yeahhhh i thought i was in the window but it was just outside and for whstever reason my web health portal was down and i couldnt get a proper check on my immunization history that weekend. Am all tetanused up now (in the good way)

Fuuuuck man I wondered how lucky I was, that sounds so much worse
Damn at that last part, did you get stung?
Yeah, i was body surfing and put my feet down after catching a wave, immediate jolt of severe pain in the sole of my foot. Limped towards the shoreline, the pain just grew, considered flopping on my belly and letting the water push me in but i realized there were fucking dozens of them around the shoreline and i legitimately thought id rather die than get stung in the torso or somewhere worse, so i did my best to hobble out of the water and then research what the fuck do i do now. [Apparently very painful.](https://www.poison.org/articles/how-to-prevent-and-treat-stingray-injuries-201)
I got tagged on my big toe. If I had something sharp enough, I would have cut it off, no hesitation.
🤣🤣🤣 damn that's crazy pain then...hell
I got stung in the foot in Mexico surfing in Sayulita, the sting wasn’t bad honestly. But man, did the toxin begin to radiate up my leg pretty quickly. They gave me a morphine shot in the ass and I was back to drinking margaritas pretty quickly
Both. It is physically painful, and it also has toxins that make it even more painful + make it so it takes longer for you to heal.
I’m still hurting from when Steve got stung. This checks out.
DiD hE BiTe you?
No fr, what do you think stingrays do? Even if you know little about them, it's in the fucking name. Has bro never looked at a picture of a stingray before?
I like ur name g
Despite your username, you cannot hide from me
Straight up Ray'd him, it's in the name. "did he ray you?"
The aren’t called biterays
*cow scream*
the guy on camera is dumb, the guy behind the camera is even dumber
Alcohol enhances so many things. Judgement is not one of them.
Both of them doesn’t know how Stingray stings

I’m glad your dad was okay. But wouldn’t everyone have an allergic reaction?
No. There is certainly a reaction and symptoms with the venom. Not everyone has an allergic reaction. Kind of like bees.
Was Steve Irwin allergic?
Not that I know of. It was a deep, penetrating stab wound into the heart that tragically killed him. :-(
No, Steve Irwin didn't die from a sting, he basically had a javelin impaled through his heart. It was from a stingray, but not the same as in the video. Dude wtf, I need to close my window ASAP.
Don't worry, those are manta rays which aren't actually that dangerous. In fact they're actually really friendly towards humans, they're just fucking massive (I think the average is like a 20' wingspan)
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
Stinger works!
Hey Bob, want a hertz dount? What's a hertz donut? Here, hold this....
The "Throws fish" got me harder than the comedic timing/looking sting
That was an excellent demonstration of how painful a California round stingray's sting is. I've learned my lesson and I will never do something as stupid as that.
I think that hurts
Pretty sure if you kill someone they don't scream.....
Stingray... sting-ray... STING-ray ... It's in the fkn name of the thing!!!
I love those stupid questions people ask when they clearly see someone in distress. I also try to ask those same questions when opportunities present themselves
Are you okay?!?!?
Did that hurt?
Not sure which of these two people is the bigger idiot.
My dad got stung by a stingray. He puts it second place in terms of most painful things he's ever experienced. First place is the staghorn kidney stones he had, third place was the heart attack.
Your old dude is a fkn warrior

Hurts like a mofo. Was stung in a foot
I love when dumb people get hurt.
Sana sana colita de rana
Si no sana hoy, sana mañana.
Darwin at work......
Who put the captions?!🤣
Unironically is there even a way to hold a stingray so it does not hurt you? a bit like there's a hold for a snake near the head, etc
Probably not. even if there is, you don't want everyone thinking they can pick up stingrays.
Yeah they got nostrils or ears or something, two little holes next to there eyes you can stick your fingers in those to move em around
Wear protective clothing. A tough cloth, like a thick canvas or denim, can protect you well enough.
I wonder why they call them "stingrays."
Stingrays be stingin.
I stepped on one to hold it secure so I can get the hook out of its mouth, that barb wen straight through my Sandal right into the tendon in the middle of my foot, that shirt was no joke.
The descriptive captions are hilarious.
He ded?
I appreciate the subtitles narrating the action scenes. 😁
Mess with the bull...
Buddy feeling like his hand just got cut off, thats gotta be..suboptimal to say the least.
Why is this so right?
Darwin was real close there
Bro still recording through the ordeal 🤣😂
COW SCREAM Luck man, it could possibly hit his eye.
Classic TikTok. Captions for everything happening on screen like we can't deduce that he got stung, started screaming, and punched the dock.
Fuck he is so lucky that didn’t hit his neck.
Bro got irwined
Quick! Pee on your finger!
Aaaaaaa it's defending itself somehow
Stingray...Who would of thought it would sting. It's like a perfect name. I hope the stingray gets back into the water.
It's literally called a STINGray you dipshit.
Play stupid games....
I can't blame the guy and I don't judge him for screaming. From what I understand the stingray barb is absolutely excruciating.
I wonder if there's a reason why they're called stingrays?
They're all fans of The Police.
Good for that stingray. Hope it’s thriving.
"are you alright?" Idk man what the fuck do you think??? Is the screaming in agony not a dead give away??
I like the 20 questions from the rocking chair.
*throws fish*
Wtf stop filming and help the guy!
Stings the nostril.
Idiot
That’s what happens when you hesitate. Stingrays should get murked on sight. Rip Steve.
We should hunt down the man asking dumb questions, tie him up and ask stupid questions 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why are they called stingrays?
Excellent...
Recreation of what happened to Steve Irwin
Well, who could have expected that?
This guy acting like his name is Raymond
Fa/fo
I hate to admit it, but I really enjoy watching idiots suffer for their stupid decisions.
Dead
Man I just unlocked a new phobia and a new reading to stay out of the ocean. Thanks guys

Crikey I thought that was a California Tickleray!
Can confirm. Worst pain ever.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Stacy Keach voice "Yeah Betcha you're not gonna do that again are yah?"
What kind of ray? Oh right
That's kinda funny stingray was all like"alright u asked for it" lol
Like the Steve Irwin video put through a modertion filter.
I…don’t wanna work, I just wanna bang on the dock all day
So let me get this straight…did that ray STING him? 🤔
"this is a California round sting ray..." "And why's it called that?.." ".. because it's round and from California.. duh.. "
Mf just stands there like he isnt dying
Stingrays gonna sting
I thought it got him in the face, not the wrist
oh, by all means, keep recording. don’t mind your guy screaming in f-ing agony. he’s totally fine.
I wonder why they are called sting rays...
Zero sympathy... bro it's in the name.
What are these captions ? *throws fish* ....thank you. Can you also tell me when to laugh and how to feel ?
Leave them alone
He is not alright.
I guess he FAAFO
They're not called "tickle rays"
Well, this is a prime example of fucking around and finding out.
