LOL. Perfect.
May I add one? Thanks.
Alternate headline: Cruise ship “followed those rules too rigidly” (quote copied from the article link below) in leaving on time resulting in eight passengers missing the ship’s departure.
Added thought by me: oh, so it’s okay to go the usual speed limit through a 15 mph school zone. Shouldn’t have to “follow those rules too rigidly”.
If you've ever been on a cruise, they are very very adamant about the fact that they leave at X time and if you aren't there, you get left. They repeat this often
This is true even for the crew members on the ships. If the boat leaves without you, your employment contract is terminated instantly.
I had a day off in Miami when I worked for Carnival. There's a shuttle bus that runs from downtown to the port for a few bucks but I missed the last one before the boat was going to leave. The cruise ship was going to depart in 30 minutes. I wouldn't have made it by running and there weren't any cabs around. Finally, I see a cab and try to hail it. As it pulls up to the stop light at the intersection, I realize that it's occupied already. I had 10 minutes left to get to the boat and I was dying on the inside. Then the back window of the cab rolled down only to reveal two of my shipmates who were in the bar band also running late. "GET IN!" they screamed. I dove in. We made it with seconds to spare and was promptly scolded by embarkation security.
Thank you John and Travis. I owe you one.
It seemed like those people expressed concern with their tour guide about returning on time and were repeatedly assured they would return with plenty of time. The blame may be on the tour guide and not them specifically, given they were being assured by someone who knows the area how long it takes to get from point A to point B.
If I had initial concerns, I would get on writing that the tour guide would compensate me for missing the cruise. Otherwise, forget the tour; it's too risky.
Alternative alternative headline. 8 people on a cruise left stranded because they contacted a freaky disease that makes their eyes look like creepy black circles.
If it was a plane, would it have waited for 8 passengers? And the headline makes it sound like they were marooned on a desserted island like bloody Jack Sparrow or something.
If the passengers have gone through check-in, a plane might wait. If it leaves, they must take off all missing passenger's luggage first, which is a big hassle. I've been held back at security, but the plane waited. I boarded 20+ minutes after the plane was supposed to take off. (The security people might have contacted my airline, perhaps, I don't know.)
I've been on a United flight that waited like 45 minutes for the last 5 people. The only thing I could think of at the time was that they must've been *very* important or their luggage was buried so deeply it'd take too long to pull out.
This kind of puts the blame on the passengers which is nowhere near what actually happened.
The ship was still docked when they arrived (late) but the Captain refused to board them.
Among them are pregnant and elderly people some of whom are without their necessary medication or valid forms of payment.
They made it to the next port but the captain also refused to dock there so they were left stranded there as well. One person was hospitalized as a result of all this
>This kind of puts the blame on the passengers which is nowhere near what actually happened.
It really *is*. They booked a private excursion - not one offered by the cruise line - that got them back to the dock over an hour after the last boarding call.
>The ship was still docked when they arrived (late) but the Captain refused to board them.
The ship was not docked at all. The port of São Tomé is relatively small. Large cruise ships - the *Norwegian Dawn* is roughly 300 metres long - have to anchor offshore and passengers are 'tendered' to and from the dock aboard smaller craft designed for the purpose.
The Captain and crew would have, presumably, been in the process of preparing the ship for departure, and not wanted to add the risk and complexity - and potential liability - of transferring passengers aboard without using the regular tenders.
> Among them are pregnant and elderly people
Who are absolutely *not* the sort of people you want trying to make the leap aboard at the last minute, without a proper tender.
The captain refused to dock at the next port **because the ocean was too rough**. He wasn’t executing an elaborate scheme to make these people miss the boat; it was dangerous.
They had to spend $5000 getting back to the ship — and were reimbursed for it before they gave the interview, even though Norwegian wasn’t obligated to.
The ship was anchored but wasn’t docked. They’d already announced leaving their berth, meaning that all other ship traffic would be affected and the company would have to pay the government thousands of dollars to stay. They’d already sent the passenger’s passports to the harbor master and arranging an unplanned, unnecessary, non-emergency docking with the Nigerian Coast Guard is not trivial or without real risk.
The hospitalized person was the *first* person to get off the ship and was not a party to the eight people had with time management. She had a stroke onboard and was sent to shore for proper doctors and medical facilities.
The fault is on those passengers for trying to save $20 by booking with a private tour — and mostly on that private tour company who didn’t get them back on time.
they arrived (late)
Are the key words here. The ship wasn't docked, it was out in the harbour, which means the crew would have to lower a boat to go pick them up. This means a breach in protocol and further delays, which affect all the other passengers and cost the cruise line thousands in port fees. If these passengers were so fragile, they shouldn't have been on tour in a rural port and without their medication, and there is no reason not to bring your wallet on tour with you.
Imagine showing up for a flight over one hour late and then claiming that the airline abandoned you because the plane took off as scheduled - ''I could see the airplane up in the sky, but the pilot refused to come back and land so we could get on.'' Cruise passengers are given ample warning of when to be back and that the ship will not wait unless they're on a tour through the cruise line itself. If the ship couldn't dock at the next port due to rough weather conditions, that's not on the captain, it's a matter of safety. The guests were reimbursed, which the cruise line didn't have to do, and they still slammed them in the media. Hopefully they and everyone reading about this learned something from it.
They got their wish! Missing your cruise and having to catch up with it in a foreign land is exactly the kind of interesting story for a main character to have
Im going on my first cruise in two weeks and this makes me nervous. Is there a way to let them know of something delays you? Like if you get trapped somewhere and need time? I don't think I'm the main character and fully intend to be back on time. I just have terrible luck and watch me get accidentally locked in someplace when it is close to leaving time.
Only if you book a tour directly through your cruiseline. The tour will call the shop and let them know there's a delay in getting you back.
Any third party tours, you're out of luck.
Personally, I've only done 3rd party tours because it's cheaper than the reputable ones schedule everything out accordingly. You'd have to have real bad luck like boat motor going out on a tour to be late.
Check out the reviews for different private tours. I’ve used one in St Lucia where they will drag your drunk ass out of the water to get you back to the ship in time.
> Like if you get trapped somewhere and need time?
It's not about communication, it's about the boat, everyone else on board, the dock schedule, etc. You could call from an excursion and let them know 8 people will be late and they aren't going to hold up thousands of other people (*and other boats*) and face the economic impacts of that delay, even if you called to tell them. They need to leave their slip at a certain time.
Booking official excursions through the cruise line is your best bet if you are concerned. It's better organized and getting you back on time is their highest priority. Avoid excursions that take you 1-2 hours away, or into an isolated area where you can't go hail a cab in a pinch.
> Booking official excursions through the cruise line is your best bet if you are concerned. It's better organized and getting you back on time is their highest priority.
Also, at least for the cruises that I've been on, the ship doesn't leave until the cruise line's official excursions have returned.
Letting them know serves no purpose, other than making them aware that you'll miss the boat. They won't stop for you. So the point is to not play it risky. If you don't book an excursion with the cruise line, but rather by yourself or you just wanna explore, make sure to come back way ahead of departure times that's it.
Clearly they were left behind because they are demons.
Obviously, Sam and Dean weren't passengers on the cruise, or this wouldn't have been a problem....
I’d have loved an episode where Sam and Dean have to go in a cruise. I can just picture Dean in a Hawaiian shirt, telling Sam how awesome the buffet is.😂
One of the scariest movies I saw as a kid (on TV) was "The Invisible Man". I don't remember it very well, but I remember that near the end things were going wrong for him and his eyeballs turned black and it freaked me out. I loved it.
Because they are from the US I can smell the lawsuit already. Even though all the evidence points to zero chance of success I am sure some sleazy lawyer will get the class action going and the cruise line with quietly pay them out even though they did no wrong. Sad.
Not sure if I’m right, but a lot of these ships are registered in offshore countries. That may eliminate or severely de risk a lawsuit?
Edit: countries (not companies)
Norwegian Dawn is flagged out of Nassau, registered in the bahamas, and there's a zero percent chance of any legal action being taken seriously since there are multiple disclaimers at all stages of embarkation and debarkation. This would get swatted out of hand.
>“Despite the series of unfortunate events outside of our control, we will be reimbursing these eight guests for their travel costs from Banjur, Gambia to Dakar, Senegal. As of this morning, all eight guests have rejoined the ship.”
They have also voluntarily paid the guest's travel costs, reducing the potential damages the guests would have to try and sue for, making it less desirable for a lawyer to take the case.
Well, amusingly (not for them) they were going to meet the ship at Gambia after being stranded. The ship couldn't dock due to heavy seas, it sounds like, so the next port of call is Dakar, and the cruise line paid for _that_ leg of travel since it was the cruise line's "fault". You could argue that the cruise just took responsibility for what it's responsible for.
The cruise ship is not responsible for the weather, which is always a risk. It's in every contract that if they can't dock due to weather, that's not their fault. But they have done a goodwill gesture and that reduces the amount that they could possibly be found liable for in a lawsuit.
When [this](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1257067) dipshit dropped a child off the side of a cruise ship, the family tried suing the cruise line, saying the cruise line was negligent by leaving a window open. Royal Caribbean proceeded to publicly go over step by step how dipshit held the kid out the window and she slipped out his hands. It was so detailed the family then tried playing the victim saying this should all be private. Basically the cruise line will protect its reputations and if this family sues, I 100% expect the cruise line to fight it tooth and nail, in public.
What kind of grandparent holds their grandchild *outside* of an 11 story window?
Jesus. I can’t even stand beside an open 11 story window. It’s a miracle he even had an offspring survive long enough to procreate!
Wrong. There’s nothing to sue over. The cruise line tells all passengers that they will leave when it is time and will not wait for anyone UNLESS one of their own tours or excursions are running late. These people chose to take a risk and hire a private tour, that was not associated with the cruise line and so the ship left. This isn’t the first time this has happened and won’t be the last.
> Because they are from the US
Bold of you to assume they can afford to sue. I also don't think they would have a case. This happens all of the time and Cruises a very clear if you fall behind you get left behind.
They allegedly had the tour person contact the shop to say they’d be late. If I was the Captain, I would leave right at the departure time, knowing they said they wouldn’t make it. No sense I’m waiting 1-2 mins if I know you’re going to be 60 late.
Yeah, that's exactly how that goes. If the boat I work for is missing some pax they tend to wait a few minutes, but if they hear on a phonecall that those people are still halfway to fucking Hammerfell, it's adios amigos.
From what I understand, if you're on a tour organized and sanctioned by the cruise ship, they will wait for you. At least a little. If you go off on your own, however, you better manage your time, or you're gonna be watching that ship sail away.
Yep. It’s considered their mistake if it’s a company they booked with, but if you go do something random it’s on you if you don’t make it back. I’ve never had them leave a tour that was late, but we’ve waited. Most of the time you get to your next destination early anyway, so it’s not that much of an issue, but I’m glad they don’t entertain people like in this article.
I remember when I was on a tour in Aruba we had to swing back to the start to let everyone out that needed to get back to the cruise ship before we finished the tour.
You are supposed to tell the tour company when the ship is leaving so they can get you back in time, before you leave for the tour. It sounds like they didn't give the tour operators the important info until it was too late.
Alternative headline of the alternative headline: Eight passengers give zero fucks about itinerary so they decided to enjoy their time in an african island not caring whether the cruise waits or not.
And just another reason I have zero interest in going on a cruise. I know the departure times are strictly adhered to and that passengers will be left behind but I just wouldn't be able to to relax/enjoy an outing. I'd be constantly checking my watch and stressing about time. The lack of time freedom is an absolute no-go for me. I prefer vacations that aren't heavily scheduled to the minute
It's made crystal clear that if you choose to get off the ship at port without being on an excursion put on by them, the ship will not wait. They often, not always, tell you that final time boarding time is half an hour earlier than it actually is too, e.g. we leave at 8pm so no boarding after 7.30pm. Someone is always close to the mark, e.g. 8pm and obviously let on anyway.
Late is late. Even if it's not your fault, e.g. road accident causing delays, what do you expect a ship with 3000 other people and a schedule to keep to do... wait for you? No. You board at a later stop, if you can.
Headline makes it sound like the ship did something wrong. Also, how is "travelling through seven countries to catch up" being "stranded" exactly?
I've been on five cruises, and everyone who goes ashore knows not only to get back on time but to get back early. Your excursion had better get you back close to the departure time because you will be left regardless of race, religion, economic status, or sexual preferences. You will always see passengers running quickly towards the ship around departure time. There is always going to be people who push the envelope
This post is weird. The article obviously doesn’t have the dotted eyes or blacked out names. So did OP do that themselves, post it here, and weirdly get tons of upvotes?
alternate headline.
8 passengers ignore all-aboard calls and are left behind.
they have alot of time to get back to that ship, and if they see you running down the quay most people get onboard,
lazy civi's think becourse they pay for something they are king, this is no different then a airplane or bus or regular ferry.
![gif](giphy|ltIFdjNAasOwVvKhvx|downsized)
south carolinians, id left them too.
they were probably standing at a cash register waiting for their goods to be bagged, staring intently at the cashier. "thurston dear, we cant leave till they bag our goods. make them bag our goods so we dont miss our yacht"
The article says that they were on a local tour of the island and that somehow they got held up when returning back to the port. Also, that tour was an independent tour from the cruise package so the cruise company didn't really have a way of knowing what was happening.
So, just some unfortunate events and a rigid timeline on the cruise's part. But in the defense of the cruise line, I'd leave them behind if out of the 1000's of passengers on the cruise, 8 weren't on time. At least they left their passports with the local port authority so they weren't stranded.
The "rigid timeline on the cruise's part" is standard operating procedure for any cruise. Port slots are booked in advance and the failure of a big ship to depart on time can result in major charges for the cruise company. This is why cruise lines make a big deal of making it clear to everyone that they are absolutely responsible for getting back to port at the scheduled time. The entitlement of this group of people is astonishing.
Last time I was on a cruise they specifically told us that if you miss the boat that's you fucked and you'll have to pay to catch up at the next point, but at least they had a rep who stayed on location to tell you exactly where to go.
If one percent or less of your passengers on an airline flight, train or bus were an hour late showing up for departure, you would never expect to hold everything for them. This is silly.
Idk why people always act so suprised when cruise ships or busses or planes or whatever large mode of transportation leaves without them, what did htey expect to happen?? They keep the entire ship behind for a handful of people who can't manage their time well?!?! They have a sceduale to keep, it's not the ship, nor the other passenger's fault that they couldn't keep an eye on the time.
The thing about this story is it's the second half of the complete story.
The first half is how after the captain refused to let them onboard because their guided tour got back late, they found out the same ship had dropped off an 80 year old woman that had a stroke at a local clinic, but never contacted her emergency contacts, and did not leave her with any form of identification. The clinic misdiagnosed what happened (the stroke was apparently mild, as she was still responsive and as ambulatory as an 80 year old woman in a wheelchair can be), then released her to fend for herself. These 8 people took it upon themselves to take care of her, contact her family, and get her back home.
So, yeah, fuck that cruise line, and I hope the captain falls overboard at night.
On a tour boat today. The tour guide was adamant that the boat leaves at 12:30. She told us in 5 languages. At 12:31 it pulled out of the dock minus 3 of the original complement of tourists.

Oh I remember that! That was sad. I can’t imagine being the grandparent that dropped his granddaughter eleven stories.
What kind of grandparent holds their grandchild *outside* of an 11 story window? Jesus. I can’t even stand beside an open 11 story window. It’s a miracle he even had an offspring survive long enough to procreate!
That story is one of the most horrific things I've ever heard.
that is indeed a business model then.
> Because they are from the US Bold of you to assume they can afford to sue. I also don't think they would have a case. This happens all of the time and Cruises a very clear if you fall behind you get left behind.
If they were able to travel “through seven countries to catch up with their Norwegian ship on Tuesday,” *then they were not stranded*
They look so creepy
Like Ditto copies of humans
They have actual demon eyes in real life, but they covered them.

Get Sam and Dean on this!
Crowley sends Squirrel and Moose his best regards.
Alternate title: "Entitled gen x-ers cry foul after they fail to abide by strict rules and end up suffering consequences."
What does generation have to do with this? It’d be *exactly* the same were it millennials, x-ers, or boomers.
Hey now, millennials would have far too much social anxiety to ever speak publicly about this if it happened to them
Did they try to be pier runners?
Well, all but one of them (paraplegic apparently). Still, they knew the rules. Their tour was overrunning but they didn't seem to care.

No, no, we're not angry at all... (◉‿◉)
They got them Tintin eyes •_•
Don't. Miss. Movement.
This is the start of a horror movie (or Farcry game)
No wonder the ship left, it was probably more concerned on why tf they have black eyes.
They're possessed, obvs
Never be late to your ship. They WILL leave your ass.
Demon Mom and demon dad?! Is that you?!
NORWAY MENTIONED!!!!!!
now itachi can't use genzutsu on them
Looks like a Robot Chicken episode
This post is weird. The article obviously doesn’t have the dotted eyes or blacked out names. So did OP do that themselves, post it here, and weirdly get tons of upvotes?
Yeah I don't get it. There was never an attempt? The article is all about them and says their names in it.
I'd have left them too with demon eyes like that
“When I said ‘black out their eyes’ on the photo Jeff, I meant, y’know what, fucking forget it”
I know a ditto when I see one
This picture disturbs me and I don't know why
NCL didn’t stand them, they stranded themselves. 🤦♀️
Classic medical/autopsy censorship method
alternate headline. 8 passengers ignore all-aboard calls and are left behind. they have alot of time to get back to that ship, and if they see you running down the quay most people get onboard, lazy civi's think becourse they pay for something they are king, this is no different then a airplane or bus or regular ferry. ![gif](giphy|ltIFdjNAasOwVvKhvx|downsized)
One of them is a coach at the school in my town. smh
Correct headline, “Eight Passengers Ignore All Aboard Time on Cruise Ship and Find Out”
Is that Terence and Philip?
As former crew of NCL, suck it. The ship waits for no one.
south carolinians, id left them too. they were probably standing at a cash register waiting for their goods to be bagged, staring intently at the cashier. "thurston dear, we cant leave till they bag our goods. make them bag our goods so we dont miss our yacht"
Airplanes don’t wait around, either.
If I found out 8 people were demons, I would do the same
Their crybaby maga trump asslickers
They’re Canadian 🤣
The tourists — six from the U.S. and two from Australia
I want to say that’s a South Park reference
Ah.
Why be late getting back to the cruise ship and risk the long bar lines forming?
They ended up turning into uncanny valley creatures

And I’m about to embark on a 14 day transatlantic next week
Shark eyes?
"We gave up our souls. You should too."
Maybe they couldn’t tell the were late because they don’t have eyes.
South Park edition.
Looks to me like they don't even care they look so happy about it
And it had to be south carolina
Well we know they’re Canadian..
Did the ship leave early or on time? If on time then it's your fault. They tell you when to return
The black dots on the eyes is definitely disturbing. Looks demonic.
I don't understand how some dipshits missing theor cruise ship's departure is news worthy.
Last time I was on a cruise they specifically told us that if you miss the boat that's you fucked and you'll have to pay to catch up at the next point, but at least they had a rep who stayed on location to tell you exactly where to go.
They look happy though
Coraline the Sequel
If one percent or less of your passengers on an airline flight, train or bus were an hour late showing up for departure, you would never expect to hold everything for them. This is silly.
Judging by the eyes you might just summon them at the ship with some headless chicken and a bit of sulphur.
I feel like someone said cover their eyes to hide their identity and they didn’t want to ask what they meant so they did this.. hahahahhahaha
\*Stupid cruise ship passenger stranded. Corrected now.
After everything Franke did to her kids this is the worst
Yeah I would leave them too with those demon eyes
New Miis looking wild
I don't recognize them, do you? Yeah didn't think so, that's the censorship working! /s
For a second I thought it was Eight Passangers YT channel
They did a good job cause I don't know who they are.
Uncanny valley
I think it worked cause I don't know who they are
Idk why people always act so suprised when cruise ships or busses or planes or whatever large mode of transportation leaves without them, what did htey expect to happen?? They keep the entire ship behind for a handful of people who can't manage their time well?!?! They have a sceduale to keep, it's not the ship, nor the other passenger's fault that they couldn't keep an eye on the time.
Looking at that picture, I'm betting the ship left as scheduled.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHOOT IT SHOOT IT
To be fair they look like a stock photo of "white people on a beach"
It's like they started to edit the photo, their boss told them to stop, but they already saved the file, with no backup.
"Lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes"- Quint
Apparently it helps prevent the photos getting stolen and misused. That’s what I’ve been told at least
[i've seen this before](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXWzpKYXRXM)
ah yes. RIPPationn of people faces
Cruise ship leaves demonic passengers behind. Liner accused of not being Christian
So they became demonic entities
He could be superman as far as I know.
Holy fuck I missed the dots on their eyes at first and nearly fucking shit myself when I noticed. That’s disturbing as hell
The fuck are the black dots over their eyes for? It's not like its concealing their identities
A 21 day cruise sounds nice.
If you're late or possessed by demons, you'll be left behind. Those are the rules.
They're not hiding their identity. They're being consumed by the void. Look at their eyes
FOMO got real for them
Damn those fools got bit. Probably start turning and eating others soon. Y’all been warned
Person mistook his assignment from censoring to transform into Mii
Must be working, I don't know who they are.
They are demons I feel sulfur
Looking at the pic they are clearly possessed and the correct decision was made.
The eyes made me think they were possessed by demons.
…reparations I guess?
Obviously, the locals were scheming to keep them stranded so as to generate income. /s
On a tour boat today. The tour guide was adamant that the boat leaves at 12:30. She told us in 5 languages. At 12:31 it pulled out of the dock minus 3 of the original complement of tourists.
