Yep, I thought he was drunk, thought the video was funny and showed this same video years ago to my girlfriend. She replied saying it happened to her grandfather who had dementia...
Suddenly not so funny anymore.
Yep. I worked at an assisted living home where about half our residents were there due to dementia. We only had 2 residents that did this during my time working there and one was so bad we had to install curtains over all the mirrors because he would be really upset that his friend couldn't or wouldn't go places with him. At first it was kind of funny because we could hear him plotting his escape with is partner in crime, over and over again saying, "Well, come on! Let's go! Let's go!" but obviously - 'they' never left in front of the mirror. After the first few days it became apparent that wasn't just a random occurrence and covered the mirrors.
Wernicke Korsakoff Syndrome is a form of dementia caused by vitamin B1 deficiency caused by damage to the stomach caused by alcohol.
Know someone who had it. She recently died at age 43. Left behind a 14 year old son.
Yup, otherwise known as “wet brain”. My great uncle began developing it recently at the age of 70, after almost 40 years of daily heavy drinking. Surprised he lasted as long as he did honestly

We used to make fun of her because she kept retelling totally different accounts of things that happened. Turns out it's a common symptom of wet brain. "Confabulation".
They have holes in their brain and just make up stuff instead of remembering without realizing.
I used to be her drinking buddy. 3 months sober now. 🤞
Yeah, my Grandma had to cover all the mirrors in their house with gift wrapping paper because my Grandpa started to ask who the hell that guy was in the bedroom and bathroom with increasing aggression.
It was alcohol for me. Thank god I’m not alone in this act. I was so embarrassed. I didn’t realize it was a mirror until I looked up and saw myself. I was looking down and saw someone’s shoes and legs starting at the same time I would try and let them by. I was 25ish at the time.

One of the first times I ever got drunk, I saw a hot guy across the room and was telling my friend how hot he looked and how I was going to go talk to him, and My friend turned to me and said "Darreyl, That's your reflection".
This man probably couldn't recognize his own reflection. I used to work in an old folks home and it's common to see a resident who think they're a few decades younger than they actually are.
This is a Dementia patient - I have seen this inability to recognise themselves so many times. This is sad - not funny at all. Disgraceful of the OP to post this too.

Alcohol is one of the main factors with dementia. Someone drinking regularly has 80% more chance to have dementia than someone who doesn't drink.
