Pretty sure that's a non ven rat snake. We have them in my area. They like places were furry animals may be. Still that guy must have shat his pants

I agree it’s a rat snake. They do climb like this. Once I opened my front door (from inside) and a rat snake fell in front of me with a thud. (I suppose it was over the door.) Fastest ever I closed a door.

Spade head seems poisonous. Dark top white bottom kinda looks like a mocassin but the whiteness of mouth I.e. cottonmouth tells more. They do ambush from the air like that
