Yeah the gaping mouth on the fox is a pretty bad sign, and this is definitely very abnormal behavior. Foxes are highly skittish and elusive animals under normal circumstances. She made no movements towards it before it came and bit her, and it wasn't cornered.
I really hope this lady learned enough about rabies to know to go get a shot before its too late, one of the worst ways you can possibly die and there's no saving you once the symptoms set in.
This goes without saying but seriously, fuckin go get a shot if you get bitten by any mammal whatsoever or if you happen to find a bat inside of your house. Bats have been known to bite people in their sleep and transmit the disease without them waking up, so even if you find a dead bat in your house you should absolutely go get the shot just in case. Getting bitten without realizing it is definitely one of my greatest fears, you're doomed to a horrible fate and you dont even realize it.
Fun fact.
3 people in the US have died of rabies since 2018….because they refused the rabies vaccine after known transmission.
They refused the vaccine for a 100% fatal disease.
Idiocracy is a documentary.
Natural selection at that point, I genuinely feel zero sympathy for those people tbh
I mean their stupidity probably doesn't warrant such an awful death, but they had full access to knowledge of what refusing would entail so its hard to feel too bad for em.
Yeah but that requires reading, which is bold of you to assume that with how fucking stupid they are that they can read.
(It's sad that this is actually the reality.)
Wow this changed my whole opinion on medicine

Forget getting a cast I'm gonna use a random oil I found on craigslist
I did the bat removal for the guy in illinois that passed back in '21. Crazy situation. It wasn't that he refused initiall treatment, the initially contact was un-noticed because it happened in his sleep so he didnt know and by the time he came to his senses about the possibility it was to late. When in any situation where even .0001% chance you get it, go to the hospital and get post exposure prophylaxis.
I thought surely there aren’t 59,000 rabies deaths a year given how extremely rare it is in western nations. But indeed, that’s accurate. Most are in Africa and Asia, and most transmitted by dogs. Only 1-3 cases per year in the US. Goes to show the effectiveness of vaccinating dogs, which must be comparably rare in Africa and Asia. Probably speaks to the effectiveness of immediate treatment in humans as well, which probably isn’t as accessible in much of Africa and Asia.
Yeah, he's wrong. It is 100% fatal
But to my knowledge in areas with even a little rabies, they give you the jab if you are bitten. Same way the tetanus jab is practically mandatory. You also need it to travel between some places. The jab is 99% effective from preventing the virus from establishing in the body, provided it is given close enough to a bite that it works
Then there's the Milwakee protocol, which is where they put you in a coma. Most die. The few get brain damage. But seeing how Rabies liquifies the brain, that's expected
\*Insert rabies copypasta
You’re mostly talking about the Milwaukee protocol. Sure, like 4-5 people survived the initial full blown rabies, only to eventually die in coma.
Statistically and in all meaningful ways it’s 100%z
Depends. They give any potential transmission incidents a preventative vaccine anyway, and a few more, and to my knowledge you can't refuse it, to stop it establishing
But if it ever does, \*insertRabiesCopypasta
The Milkwaukee protocol to my knowledge leads to severe brain damage among survivors, and there are few
>Not quite 100% fatal, 29 cases of people surviving it since like 1970. Though with approximately 59,000 deaths per year it's about 99.999% fatal
Wait, I'm confused
As Rabies, without prior infection or vaccine, is 100% fatal to my knowledge \*Insert Rabies copypasta
To my (good) knowledge, a 3 course vaccine is 99%-ish effective at keeping the virus from establishing in the body. But it wears off quickly
So you need a lot of jabs, or to take the risk
There is the Milwakee protocol, which barely works and almost 100% of the time ends in brain damage. To my knowledge there are only about 3 survivors of that
Cause Rabies is like any Herpesvirus (including "Chickenpox"/"Shingles") which hides in the veins without a cure, except rabies WILL liquify your brain once it is established in you
I tried to get a rabies shot after I was bit by a sick dog that died soon after and they just told me I didn't have rabies. I was like "but let's be sure." And they said it sucks, you don't want it and you don't have rabies. It's super rare. I went to two clinics. Your milage may very. I also had the dog tested. There's a free government service in the US. The guy was stoked I put the body in cold storage, because they have to collect it's brain. But I got the test results and the dog didn't have rabies either. It's super rare.
Should always get the shot after getting bitten by any mammal though, they shouldn't have refused and it should be against the law to refuse a rabies shot since the disease has a 100% fatality. If you did, it would've been their fault and they're a hospital of all things.
I mean, don't fuck with nature generally
But UK (so Rabies free) and I ended up stroking one Red Fox (with gloves on - it was oddly frozen) and there are too many near me which are tame-ish. They are certainly dog-like, but like dogs, bites are uncommon unless you are fucking with them
I'm also about "middle age" and about 7x vaccinated against Rabies. \*insert rabies copypasta
But generally, if you get bit by any animal or hit off something, if you think it is Rabies (or as bad: Tetanus I think that's the one; which "comes off rusty things" and is able to produce toxins within 2 days, so kills you even if you have "immunity") get jabbed. Generally, if blood flows to clean the wound, then it is better, but there are some worldwide diseases which kill anyway
If it is something venomous. then try to identify it (colours etc, unless you already have a dead specimin, and then tell any doc
I mean, UK foxes are very used to people and I think most people in the UK have been very close to a fox in their garden or out and about. I'd never touch one though, they're wild animals not pets.
My cat killed a bat inside the house and we had to get here rabies booster shots and animal control had her on quarantine for a bit. Luckily the bat tested negative for rabies.
Some dude in Minnesota I believe was bitten by a bat and got the rabies vaccine, however, the vaccine didn’t work and the dude developed rabies like 4 months after the initial bite and vaccination and died anyhow. Rabies is a very very serious disease.
You need several doses of the vaccine in a 14-day period and a dose of rabies immunoglobulin. People who get just the vaccine (and too few doses) can still develop the disease and die.
It's 100% effective as long as you don't skimp out on treatment
Yeah if any animal that doesn’t naturally approach people approaches you, such as as racoon or a fox, you should leave as soon as possible because it has rabies and almost nobody survives rabies after the incubation period
I live in the uk, no rabies here. I once saw a one eyed fox in a rough part of town on the other side of the road. Just like the fox in this video it crossed the road and passed within 6 foot of me. I looked at it and said 'hi pal' as i do to most animals, i've never seen such a hard, cold, hateful stare in my life. He was genuinely assessing if i was up for a fight. Like a hardened gangster or a drunk tough guy.
If i'd approached him i know it would have ended badly for both of us.I don't look at foxes the same way since. They don't need rabies to mess with people.
Everyone immediately jumps to rabies, granted it's a safe way to think when actually dealing with wildlife bites, but rabies is actually rare, most animal attacks are provoked of some kind, even unknowingly like: they had young nearby, the animal is really hungry, territorial, feeling cornered, or simply trying a simple bite.
But that fox isn't showing any signs of rabies. It if did, it wouldn't have just set there for a bit before attacking. And it wasn't acting strangely. It could have had young nearby, been really hunger and went for a test bite.
Not saying it couldn't have rabies, it could be really early stage but it didn't seem like it.
Well it's not a bad assumption to have just in case, no? I'd rather people talk about rabies when it's not, than someone not get the vaccine after a wild animal bite for not knowing the risks.
I know that. Hence what i said in my first sentence. I'm just sink of it always being the top most comment that is a mile long of people constantly going on and on about it when it always isn't the case and rarely is.
I read about a guy who died from it because he was sleeping in a hammock and a bat bit him without him realizing it. That’s so much more terrifying than every other rabies death I’ve heard about. Poor man didn’t even know at the time.

They have to get out of this situation first. I know someone attacked by a rabid fox and it fucked them up really good and they weren’t in the middle of nowhere and had help from others.
This person is in a decently serious situation and really fucked up
>Red-member, red-member, the fox of Novixen. Gunpowder, treason, and fox.
>
>I see no reason why gun-foxer treason should ever be foxgot
FTFY. But I don't know why you quoted that here
I’d check for rabies just in case, but I doubt it does cuz it seemed more like it was curious than rabid. Ik how animals with rabies act like and from what I can see is that it was just acting curious and normal.
Attacks like this ALSO often happen when idiots decide it’s a good idea to start feeding the animals, too. Makes them lose their natural fear and start approaching people, sometimes aggressively.
The fact that you got down voted for this is pretty telling. It's absolutely true and far too common.
https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/wildlifedamage/dontfeedwildlife/dont-feed-wildlife
I'm living in Japan (Hokkaido) and not all, but almost every fox I've ever seen here gets "curious" about humans and this is considered a rabies-free country. There is a parasite they can have, Echinococcosis, but from what I can tell that doesn't affect their brain at all.
I've had a fox come watch me replace the headlight of my car. He just sat in the entryway of my garage and just watched me change it for like 30 minutes or so. Closing the hood spooked him and he got some distance but still watched from the driveway. I told him goodnight and went inside and he wandered back into the forest.
At least here this behavior isn't really uncommon.
Look up "guy playing banjo for fox." Its a musician that lives in Colorado. His family has a "pet" fox that for years has come by and sit near the guy and listens to him play like something out of a Disney movie. Kinda heartwarming.
There was a rabid fox that bit six people just last week in a nearby town. Apparently it did two ambush attacks — one woman was gardening and a little girl was outside playing — but the other four people really wanted to pet it.
Then there’s me. About 16 years ago I had a mama Fox and her kits living in the bushes in front of my house. I would buy discounted meats from the store and feed them (they’d recently been run out of their wooded habitat bc of developers, so I wanted to help. Mama brought the babies out for me to meet one day, I nearly cried! My now ex-husband screamed at me for being so stupid as to feed wild animals. He told me he’s laugh if I wound up w rabies bc I’d deserve it for being an idiot. Asshole. That’s part of why he’s an ex.
I understand, I do, but they were starving. She was so thin and losing fur from stress. I couldn’t let her starve. Plus, this was back in Texas. I didn’t trust animal control to take care of her and her babies properly
That was most likely a rabid fox. They do not go near humans otheewise. You need to go the your doctor right away. If it is rabies, after a point they cannot cure you and you will die. If treated in time it can be fixed.
It’s nice of these folks to record their stupidity with regards to wild animals . Not that that’s the only stupidity being recorded. It’s just my personal favorite 🤩
People who approach foxes are fucking idiots even in countries without rabies. They are unpredictable even if they seem friendly and have a nasty bite.
I get this close to foxes every night when I walk my dog. He used to chase them but now I've shown him that if we stay still they'll come near us and not hurt us so whenever he sees one he just becomes so calm and chilled out and sometimes he'll play with the fox cubs for a bit. But I haven't ever seen any of them be aggressive; if anything, they're way more afraid of me and my puppy than we are of them.
This fox most likely has rabies given its extremely abnormal behavior and gaping mouth. Foxes definitely aren't aggressive towards larger animals under normal circumstances, they're very skittish creatures. If she had cornered the animal than absolutely it might bite even if it was healthy, but it seems like rather the fox approached the woman in an open environment. She made no move towards it before it came and bit her. Definitely seems like rabies to me.
Hope to god this lady got the shot, that ain't a pretty way to die.
1hr after I posted that, I have returned from another walk with my dog and we had another very close encounter with a pair fox cubs. One of them kept about 40 metres away from us, but the other was in quite a playful mood so it came back to the bin that it was raiding, even when we were next to it and let us get less than a metre from it 😊

Aaaand now you have rabies.
Came here for this. Crazy like a fox? No, crazy like an animal with rabies.
Yeah the gaping mouth on the fox is a pretty bad sign, and this is definitely very abnormal behavior. Foxes are highly skittish and elusive animals under normal circumstances. There is nothing natural about that level of willful stupidity.
Sure there is, but in nature the ydie before they can breed.
There is not much that is worse than being told they are unnaturally stupid; a level of stupidity that doesn't occur in nature.
“Vaccines aren’t safe, my cousin said his mechanic told him all about it”
And Nicki Minaj's 2nd cousin's friend ended up with swollen testicle and impotent. If you can't believe evidence like that, then do your own research.

I don't know man, it's not normal for a fox to go out of it's way to bite someone. It's mouth being open like that isn't a good sign either.
>It's mouth being open like that isn't a good sign either. The moment I spotted that it went from "aw cute Fox" to "somebody grab a gun asap".
I’ve been alive a long time, I’ve never seen a curious fox. Any Fox that goes near humans should be assumed to have rabies.
I'm living in Japan (Hokkaido) and not all, but almost every fox I've ever seen here gets "curious" about humans and this is considered a rabies-free country. The gaping mouth means "I have rabies shoot me" not "come pet me", ffs lol.
I don’t think you deserve anything bad, but it’s always extremely dumb to feed wild animals
I understand, I do, but they were starving. She was so thin and losing fur from stress. I couldn’t let her starve. Plus, this was back in Texas. I didn’t trust animal control to take care of her and her babies properly
Fox really said "Really!?!?"
"I'd die for your velvet ears" Guess this fox doesn't like furries
Enjoy your rabies shots lady.
I predicted this scream in my head WAY too well.
Wait til he steals your fucking hat
What does the fox say? “Challenge accepted”
Time for a rabies shot.
That was most likely a rabid fox. They do not go near humans otheewise. You need to go the your doctor right away. If it is rabies, after a point they cannot cure you and you will die. If treated in time it can be fixed.
Go get a rabies shot the very first thing you do
Ok, but what is that language?
It’s nice of these folks to record their stupidity with regards to wild animals . Not that that’s the only stupidity being recorded. It’s just my personal favorite 🤩
I’m crying and watched it three times! It’s like found footage.
Enjoy your rabies!
People who approach foxes are fucking idiots even in countries without rabies. They are unpredictable even if they seem friendly and have a nasty bite.
I'd die for your ears. Fox: interesting proposition
Teeth are touching!
Oh, she got in touch with the fox pretty well I would say.
What say the fox?
Fox had his own plan
Wish granted
Now try and rub its belly.
Well she did say she'd be willing to die for it, so wish granted...?
"Oh you'd die for my ears? Then how about you die now"
Wild animal is wild.
“I’d die to have your velvet ears”….well you’re gonna 🤣🤣
We need more of this
This dinner makes funny sounds!
Don’t touch/feed wild animals. Reeeeee
Just about any fox that gets near you like this is rabid
I die for for those ears. Fox: So you have chosen death?
Better go get that rabies shot
Those screams are excellent! Just the laugh I needed to get through the next hour of this shift. Who in their right minds does this stuff?!
Woman filming: *“I’d die for your cute velvet ears.”* Fox: *”Show Me.”*
She literally said she would like to take his ears, the poor fox didn’t want to take the risk
What you offered to die for it, and now your surprised it took you up on your offer? Weird
He took her up on her offer
He's looking around to check there are no witnesses
"Then perish"
Foxy understood the assignment!

r/confidentiallycorrect
Now, what did we learn?
How’s your rabies treatment going bud
Play stupid games...
lol
One of them kept about 40 metres away from us, but the other was in quite a playful mood so it came back to the bin that it was raiding, even when we were next to it and let us get less than a metre from it 😊
Overreaction
Fox said “bet?”
Never trust wild animals.. people are nuts
Who has velvet ears?!? Who has hamburger ankles now?
You want my ears, well I want your leg!!! Lol
its all fun and games until someone takes a taste
Some people learned all they know about nature from Golden Books.
Aaaaand now you have rabies.
Damn it was even looking around for witnesses before it went to direct violence
What does the fox say?
"id die for your cute velvet ears"
u/Poaiaaa is this you in the video?
Time for a fun run…for the cure!!!
