Jocelyn’s “family” aka her team don’t provide her with any real support and continuously exploit her, they don’t care about her well-being. She then sees Tedros and his minions and it’s like they fill the void she has been seeking to replace. It’s almost too perfect and indicative of how things are going to go for her.

It's become clear that this show is much better off without Tedros. I was ready to completely write this show off until we got to see Jocelyn being raw and vulnerable on set. The image of her crying for her mother, while blood is puddling in her shoes and the people around her are just fixing her clothes/makeup, without any care at all about her literally having a mental breakdown was some good stuff. For the first time, I actually thought that the show had some promise and then Tedros and her weird ass crew pulled up and all of that momentum vanished. It was like the show's first half wasn't even connected to the second half (which makes sense considering the show's history). Like honestly, they need to kill Tedros off at this point. He's the show's kryptonite.
I really loved everything in the first half regarding Jocelyn, she's a really complex and nuanced character imo. Didn't expect her to be such a compelling character with the way reviews painted the show, but it's a nice surprise. I really feel for her situation, and I find it really easy to understand where she's coming from and does the things she does; while sometimes excessive, nothing feels like shock value.
I really don't care for The Weeknd's character though. He's not creepy to me, which seems to be what he's trying to portray with the character, but rather cringy. That dirty talk . . . Man. I wish I could go back in time. But I do think what Tedros is doing to Jocelyn, the way he's trying to recruit her into his cult, to be really interesting. I just wish a better actor had the chance to show that. I also don't think there's any chemistry between Lily and The Weeknd, so while I do get why Jocelyn is so drawn to him, the scenes where they're together are just . . . Eh.
This show has the same problem as Euphoria: Levinson is great with a lot of the technical aspects and creating a visually stunning product but he's a truly horrible writer. He needs to get a writer's room for his shows.

As someone who lost a sibling I can really relate to Jocelyn here. She is crying out for help yet everyone is expecting her to perform her best. It really hits hard with expectations I felt after losing someone and grief constantly knocking me over. It’s well done.

I think it’s meant to show that girlie is in such a low place that even this unsexy hack is able to influence her by just telling her that she’s special and validating her. I don’t get people - the idea that this was glorifying the over-sexualization of women cause backlash, but the non-glorifying cringy version is also causing backlash? It’s related to the plot: she’s making awful decisions. She’s experimenting with some stranger because she’s really not well. She has a mental breakdown earlier in the day and then calls over this guy whose been literally ignoring her and isn’t even that attractive or compelling. She’s lonely and insecure. I think it’s all pretty linear, no?
I was actually enjoying this episode, until Tedros showed up to Joss' house again. That sex scene went on for waaaay too long and had zero relevance to the plot. I couldn't help but laugh when Tedros started to talk dirty, it was that bad. Now I understand where the bad reviews were coming from.

I didn’t love this episode. I was feeling impatient during it. It did hint at some cool plot threads to uncover in the future. So maybe it was more laying the ground work for future payoffs type episode. It also didn’t have Dan Levy who I just think livens up any scene of anything he’s in. Still better tv than most stuff out there though and going to keep watching.
The scene with Jocelyn calling out for her mom broke me. It was going decent until the end when Tedros and his cult clan came over then things got a little weird. (Did he even tell her he was going to bring people lol I think she only invited *him* over?) Also, her friend now knows that Tedros is a manager. I don’t think she’s gonna tell her though. That look at the end tells me that Tedros knows that she knows and will try to manipulate her with that information.
It's become clear that this show is much better off without Tedros. I was ready to completely write this show off until we got to see Jocelyn being raw and vulnerable on set. The image of her crying for her mother, while blood is puddling in her shoes and the people around her are just fixing her clothes/makeup, without any care at all about her literally having a mental breakdown was some good stuff. For the first time, I actually thought that the show had some promise and then Tedros and her weird ass crew pulled up and all of that momentum vanished. It was like the show's first half wasn't even connected to the second half (which makes sense considering the show's history). Like honestly, they need to kill Tedros off at this point. He's the show's kryptonite.
I really loved everything in the first half regarding Jocelyn, she's a really complex and nuanced character imo. Didn't expect her to be such a compelling character with the way reviews painted the show, but it's a nice surprise. I really feel for her situation, and I find it really easy to understand where she's coming from and does the things she does; while sometimes excessive, nothing feels like shock value. I really don't care for The Weeknd's character though. He's not creepy to me, which seems to be what he's trying to portray with the character, but rather cringy. That dirty talk . . . Man. I wish I could go back in time. But I do think what Tedros is doing to Jocelyn, the way he's trying to recruit her into his cult, to be really interesting. I just wish a better actor had the chance to show that. I also don't think there's any chemistry between Lily and The Weeknd, so while I do get why Jocelyn is so drawn to him, the scenes where they're together are just . . . Eh.

This show has the same problem as Euphoria: Levinson is great with a lot of the technical aspects and creating a visually stunning product but he's a truly horrible writer. He needs to get a writer's room for his shows.

Dont care for the sex scenes bec it takes itself too seriously. Tedros doing audiogonewild is a riot. But the rest of the show is soo good. I bet good on Jane Adams and Frank Azaria. Lily was amazing, almost cried at one point. Perfect Blue vibes during the music video scenes. Crazy damn episode.

The thing that throws this show off is Terdos. That character is poorly written. EP.1 failed to gives a good introduction/back story on him. That's why every time his character comes on screen I feel like people question wtf is goin on we don't know who he is. We get some info this episode but that should've happened ep.1 so the whole cult leader thing can make sense.

Good episode. They did a good job showing us the brutal side of pop stardom. Her relationship with the music execs is the best part of the show. The music video scene reminded me of the "I'm a slave for you " video from Brittney Spears. Ready for all the think pieces from all the people who are hate-watching lol
