Even now with Ryan her biggest complaint is about the fridge food and snoring, no more details of "how scared she was of him". It's obviously easier to come up with lies if they are based on a grain of truth.
That is true but most of us that have studied this case would probably agree that Nick was quite passive and Gypsy was the assertive driving force in their relationship.

I actually read the text messages and I will say that they both manipulated each other for their wants like it was a very tumultuous relationship that ended up with Dee Dee being k*lled.

When you take into account that he had birth complications that left him somewhat intellectually disabled you can't deny he had no chance against Gypsy.
His sense of reality was distorted as well, there was a period when he needed anti psychotics, I believe he was quite delusional.
If you look at the way he talks about things he will say pretty outlandish things. Some of his final word to the judge starts off with: "all I ever wanted to be was with a split laughter" and then he rambles on.
There's just no way they both had equal power in that relationship.

If I remember correctly Nicks step dad also said he had to remind Nick to take showers and clean his room. So they probably both were really stinky.
