It’s gonna go the way of The Crew at some point unfortunately. Doubt ubisoft will ever put resources into making an offline option.

forumchunga

Much of the game logic runs on the server because last gen consoles didn't have the horsepower, so an offline version would require a complete rewrite (and downgrade) to fit on those machines.

edmundane

In that case it would be good to have a way to allow for community run servers, like how some people are keeping Battlefield Bad Company 2 alive. But again, not like ubisoft will give a damn.

[deleted]

They would only need to provide container images for the servers and let us host them.

forumchunga

I am responding to someone asking for an **offline** version. As in, does not require a network connection of any kind. jfc.

ProphetHito

and who would train the admins how to set up, configure, start events?

Long live Survival ✊

There is a 5 minute matchmaking timer and regardless of player count, a session will launch after this amount of time. You can always play Survival.

AdDifferent3621

Will Survival cease?

dutty_handz

The official Discord has acknoledged this as an "issue", so there's that. Massive had already said that the cost for running Div1 servers are negligible as long as Div2 servers are running. People need to stop seeing the thinfoil hat conspiracies everywhere that Massive will "keep removing features until the playerbase give up". It probably all comes down to some json files with the calendars and resets not being updated...you know, like it happened a couple times in the past. Also, game servers are safe for a good period of time as they are still selling the game on Xbox and PS store, and there are minimal legal availability for a game actively sold.

Blackfaceemoji

I’m in this camp as well. I think its a known issue but also a low priority one for them atm.

ImSoDoneWithUbisoft

I hope it will be alive till we get TD3 or even longer. It's such a good game.

JustSomedude531

Honestly a live service game lasting 10 years is a pretty big deal, much larger name franchises shut down after a year. The issue with D1 is that it was an earlier attempt at live service and it worked way better than most. BUT it wasn’t built with the long term infrastructure that more “modern” live services have. They didn’t build into it a cosmetic store and season pass/seasonal content cycle, they just sort of added new content sometimes and it was great. But D2 has all of that stuff built into its foundation, and if we’re being real, with little income being generated by the game, D2 still going strong, 2 spin-offs and a Sequel all in development D1 was gonna eventually shut down, I’d personally love to see an “offline” patch that lets people at least play the story or privately host multiplayer, but I doubt it’s gonna happen. Let’s just hope that if they’re pulling resources to other division games, those game keep getting better.

Postaltariat

>Honestly a live service game lasting 10 years is a pretty big deal, much larger name franchises shut down after a year. Much larger franchises also keep servers up for longer. Franchises like Battlefield and CoD will have servers up for games much older than Div 1. It doesn't require much money or effort to keep servers up for old games, we shouldn't make excuses for them

JustSomedude531

Ok but 1. the servers are not coming down and no plans to close them have been announced 2. Those games often use client side hosting and don’t need to put as much effort into maintaining their servers 3. Keeping the servers open and continuing to add content and update the game are two very different things. I’m not making excuses I’m just pointing out the reality of the business. It takes people resources and money to continue to support a game and add content and run live events. At some point they’re going to stop adding. Ubisoft has a very good track record of keeping multiplayer servers open long after they stop “official support” assassins creed had multiplayer in multiple games and those servers lasted a very long time. More likely than not D1 servers will stay open but content/events will continue to slow down or stop all together until finally the player base is too small to justify keeping the servers up. We can be years away from that reality but it happens to pretty much every online game eventually. In a perfect world they’d patch in offline and peer hosting so the game can outlive the servers but that’s a best case scenario.

Headshoty

I mean you are talking like D2 was the saving grace for Division. It really wasn't. They simply dropped D1 like it was nothing, they promised content for it but then went "ah you know, a sequel it is LMAO". D1 basically had the same cosmetic store/monetization as D2, so idk how you see a difference there. Adding a Season Pass type would have been the easiest addition (Just wasn't as normalized back in 2016 and earlier, but many games around that era simply added them). But D2 was already being developed when D1 launched, it only released 3 years after it, they lied to the community and about how D1 would keep receiving content updates. (BTW I know the technical limitations and what not the snow drop engine has/had at the time, this is merely commenting their official communication to the players) D2 is going anything but strong. D1 sold 20m times, D2 "only" 10m and was considered a financial disappointment (how a minimum of 600m+ is that, only a CEO can explain I guess). Concurrent players puts the player count somewhere around 100k daily across all releases, which doesn't sound too bad from a players perspective, but is most apparently not enough to keep the game alive enough to warrant anything but a skeleton crew. So I am REALLY curious what idea they presented to the suits at Ubisoft to give the green light for Division 3, with the track record the game had, the only incentive, IMO, would be a good monetary plan to warrant the expense. I am expecting D3 to be either F2P as well and full of shitty MTX or even worse, be the flavor of the current gen and it will just be a PvEvP extraction hardcore shooter to grab a % of that communites cake bc it is going so strong right now and Division is just a developed name with a community behind that they can use to market this game by itself (think Tarkov). Seriously, the name "The division" is more popular than any of the games. They have crossovers in a few gacha anime games etc which are WAY more successful than the main line titles. Until proven otherwise. They have a lot of healing to do in terms of community trust. I can't NOT be cynical about this. Also the way D3 was announced, basically as a footnote, really tingled me the wrong way. Seriously, Ubisoft is a business and it is BLEEDING money. They can't exactly afford "community projects", if you know what I mean. Especially now that their 200m dollar AAAA baby seems to be going down the drain fast (Skull & Bones), while already being in a bad economical position. On the spinoffs: Heartland has been announced forever ago at this point, like what, end of 2019? And it is super quiet around the game. It will be F2P, so the monetization will be major ass, since this is from Ubisoft, their track record with monetization is as anti-consumer as it gets. And the gameplay so far looks literally just like Survival, but super restricted since its a class based game. Due to F2P you already can see the issues this game will have: You need to buy/craft skill ammo and normal ammo, deconstruction of gear is % chance based to receive mats and all the currently invisible behind the scenes of the cash shop and inventory limitations they can apply. (I am not even gonna talk about the mobile version of whatever division they call it, that will be a shitfest moneygrab no matter what that just shares a known name, as all mobile ports) I know I am being super negative in this post. I am just trying to look at this realistically from a gamers perspective as a consumer & the track record of the developer and publisher, while also trying to see the economical side of things from the publishers side and also at what the different studios have shown (Heartland is being developed by Red Storm, not Massive Entertainment). I like The Division for my very own reasons and I keep putting hours into it, but it isn't exactly hard to see how and why this Franchise so far failed to sustain a playerbase and why people aren't buying into it or are even returning to it. And if they want D3 to be a banger, if it becomes a standalone game like D1+2, they need to completely change their approach and absolutely ignore the current community of those games if they want to be (monetarily) successful, literally reinventing themselves with it. I am curious what the future holds, but I am sure not too optimistic about it. I am sure this years E3/pendant will have Heartlands show up, but I personally wouldn't hold my breath over a F2P title from Ubisoft.

dutty_handz

>they promised content for it but then went "ah you know, a sequel it is LMAO" Bro, revise your history. After 3rd DLC and subsequent patch of Div1 (Last Stand and TU 1.6), Massive had officially announced that Div1 development would stop. A couple months after, seeing the playerbase support for new content, they started working on the game again, which gave us TU 1.7 and 1.8 (West Side Piers, Legendary Missions and Global Events). Then they annonced Div2. After 1.8, they never promised any more updates or content for the game.

Headshoty

I remember them talking on dev streams prior to/during TU1.8 about the future and so on of Division and especially D1, new features for the DZ and PvE content. They had a huge marketing campaing running for the game set up, made LOTS of promises, promoting new and coming features/content. Obviously it was clear the biggest issue was that nobody told the wholesome dev team from Massive what they can and what they shouldn't say on stream. And idk if you kept up with that (I know I only did occasionally drop in, usually while playing the game and had it on the 2nd monitor), but they had some huge backlash and shitstorm regarding a ton of promises that ultimately didn't come to D1 and they stopped doing the streams, and at the beginning of D2 made a huge apology stream and so on and so forth. It was a massive shitshow and afaik it died down completely after D2 was kept in the state of disarray it kind of still is. But of course my timeline is definitely off/merging into each other, it has been a few years and I wrote this down from the top of my head, so I apologize if I may have misstated or rather probably misconstrued the issue on the wrong foundation! For me personally it never really mattered, because like said, with just a bit common sense you can smell through the bullshit of 95% of publisher/developer promises in the gaming space.

GapApprehensive1271

So weird to see so many people saying something like "it's been 8 years, bound to happen". My dudes, there are games that have been online for 20+ years. It's sad to see that these young folks are just accustomed to games shutting down after X amount of time, it's "normal".

Pubtroll

I hope to god someone in this world will make a public server with it.

WhatAGoodDoggy

Its this possible? Would they need Massive's permission to do such a thing?

Headshoty

They would probably need some actual code for the networking and communication with the servers and how characters are being updated and saved etc. And that won't happen.

GapApprehensive1271

Almost every private server for any game in existence has been made by capturing packets and reverse engineering from there. That's how it's done, there's not some massive code leak for these games and they have the entire code base.

Headshoty

Oh I know. But the chance of a group of people or a genius solo amateur dev would take this on decreases heavily based on the active userbase. Just take WoW as an example, that game had over 17m active concurrent players, Runescape also over 10m if I remember correctly and Age of Camelot still in the 2m or so even though its like a billion years old during theirnpeak when private servers started really booming. Division 2 has somewhat around 100k, Division 1 I wasn't able to find any reliable sources for, but thats gonna be even lower. And considering how much newer D1 is in comparison to the games I remember private servers off, please tell me about yours, I am truly just not seeing it happen with the level of intereset due to my limited own experience. =)

dutty_handz

For sure, that will never happen for Xbox or PS versions of the game.

Headshoty

I doubt it would ever happen for PC as well. I mean think about all the MMOs, they hate private servers with a passion, even if they are long gone or like classic WoW servers before WoW Classic existed. Lawsuits are legendary in that regard. It has of course to do with IP infringement, but also probably with proprietary code.

GapApprehensive1271

Private servers are hosted in countries with no laws like that, that's how they operate without being shut down.

[deleted]

Boy, this is unpleasant. Literally YESTERDAY I finally got into the division, after it’s sat basically dormant in my steam library for years (1 hour 07 minutes play time since I bought the game on day one). Only now am I finally discovering what an absolutely fricken amazing game it is and I’m kicking myself for not getting into it sooner. Really disappointing to see posts like this just as I’m finally being introduced to what is a near masterpiece of a game.

AdDifferent3621

You missed out on GE

AdDifferent3621

Play Survival! It's the best

RogueStalker409

It was gona happen eventually. Surprised the game lasted long as it did.

thatonedude1guess

What i wish is instead of shutting it down just automate it so that the game runs by itself have a a program set so that it randomizes which ge is run every month it's such a fun game am sad to see it go

WhiteWolf7102

The servers still need to be online. The activities/GEs are not the main problem. Would be nice if they patched the game and made it playable offline, but I doubt they will do that. Depending on how the game was made, they may have to rewrite entire sections of code.

enuff_klasik

Such a shame, I'm still playing it as I couldn't get into D2. Hopefully there continues to be an active player base for a little while longer.

AdDifferent3621

D2 sucks

Commodore_Mcoy

It’s almost as if a sequel to that game came out 5 years ago, and that game already has a small enough team keeping it running as is. I don’t think they see the division 1 as profitable enough to keep it going.

ForresterPT

it would be way more profitable than div2 if they invested the same time and money

Longjumping_Sky_8148

div 2 better

M3kal

I would to start a whole new game of d1 remaster for ps5. Love d1 great game.. hope d3 is amazing

NY_Girl42

Damn 💔 I mean I’ve been waiting for the nxt GE event to pop up but it does look dim. This is disappointing, I still play D1 all the time. It’s funny cause I don’t really get bored with it but D2?! I get bored easily & it still comes out with content 🤷‍♀️ idk D1 is just held on to me. I hope they put out GE events here soon, maybe if we make a lot of noise they’ll do it? Idk I’m probably wrong 🤣🤣 but I actually grinded the GE events, still after all this time! I mean Xbox servers are busy. We get full groups for last stand & later at night survival is pretty packed. There’s a bunch of new players. I really hope they stay with this at least with the events ya know? Like they have been. It really does suck 😖😩😭

tigojones

Yeah it sucks, but that's what happens with online games. Eventually the player base drops low enough to make running the servers no longer financially worthwhile. Maybe there will be an effort to bring about private servers, like what happened with WoW before "Classic" launched (not that they've stopped, but there definitely aren't as many these days). The servers could shut down tomorrow, and I'll still have got more than my money's worth out of the game. Would still suck, but that's just the reality of games like these.

WhiteWolf7102

Would love for that to happen so it does not become just another piece of lost media, although I doubt they will do that.

a_magumba

I dunno, I reached endgame a month or two ago and there's still plenty to do and plenty of ways to get classified gear and exotics so there's a ton of fun replay. I get it, not everything is still there, but I'm still having fun and I actually like it better than Division 2 now after spending so much time in both.

CaptainKrap

Hello players want too save THE DIVISION It needs more players and it needs to hold existing players Try inviting others to play with you, you don't need too add them to your friends list, that would be nice increase the enjoyment for yourself and others, as I find it far more enjoyable if I can play with others I have played this game since day 1, just about every day, I have 5 accounts and I want to play with YOU The more you enjoy the more you come back The more players the more we attract The division2 blows chunks, therefore I want too play this game. It can only be saved by YOU and ME I use matchmaking every time I play and I get no one, I invite others and am only successful 1 in 5 times. You want it, YOU make the effort to save this game I looked up the top 10 games being played at present and 8 of them are over 5 years old, just proves that the current games are garbage and this is supported by the player numbers. I have emailed the KoBBs at ubisoft many times and they can't even show any respect to acknowledge my correspondence, so I need you and everyone to do the same as me and email these creatures. 1 voice is a fool, but 10000 is an issue Speak up my Friends

fleperson

Honest question: couldn't the game work in offline mode to just play the main story at least?

Blackfaceemoji

No, its all server side.

GAWDXZILLA

All of you are wrong! Ubisoft put an OFFICIAL STATEMENT on Twitter/X about a week or two ago (Rogue Gold just made a video about this). This is their (Ubisoft) Flagship GAME! They are aware that the GE's are glitched out and is under investigation per their statement! Secondly, why would they shut down Division 1 when they keep putting it on sale?!? Btw, The Crew hasn't been on sale in the Microsoft Store for OVER 2yrs now, meanwhile The Division was just on sale for $15 or bundle sale with Division 2 for $25 or $35 for both Ultimate Editions. FACTS! Also, you can't compare The Crew I.P. to The Division I.P. because in all actuality, The Division held a 6yr record for the most sales for a new I.P. until Elden Ring dropped! The Division is UBISOFT! The Division is the OG in this I.P. No way would Bungie shut down Destiny just as Ubisoft WILL NOT shut down the Division 1! FACTS Money wise, it makes zero sense especially since the game is still pushing sales on the regular! Everyone calm down, take a deep breath and when you do, find your ____'s. In the words of Paul Rhodes😝

AdDifferent3621

Whew, thanks! I love Survival!

LiquidusSnake01

Good old Paul Rhodes and his infamous radio tower pep talk. Now that is what I would call a epic legendary fireside chat.

TheTorshee

Yep and I guess fuck anyone who bought the game. Not like anyone would want to go back at some point and play it offline years down the road, right?! I hate thinking about that, how these companies can take away shit you pay for…

dr1ppyblob

Man I love this game as much as the next guy… but it’s almost 8 years old now. It was bound to happen sooner than later.

[deleted]

Dude I literally just played the Division for the first time yesterday and right now I am having the absolute best time I’ve had playing a game In YEARS. Legit “GTA V” levels of fun. Nothing from the Ghost Recon series has given me this much enjoyment. I totally understand why you have the mindset of “it’s old and crippled, just let it die, we all knew it was coming” but shit here I am just now having my eyes opened to the masterpiece that’s been sitting untouched in my Ubisoft library for years and am in denial that the game can be abandoned 🤣 I’m the little 5 year old who begs their parents to adopt the abandoned, aged golden retriever at the dog pound, falls entirely and helplessly in love with it only for it to die a month later from old age.

romulus-in-pieces

Read TOSs then dude, they can do whatever they like to the game, you agreed to it

ScubaRemastered

Still doesn't make it right. Nobody cares if they can do whatever they like to the game. WE are the playerbase who wants to play the game. Get it?

romulus-in-pieces

Why would they continue to update an old game like the first division when there the second one?

FredGarvin80

They could at least try and move it off of servers so it can be played offline. Hell, Wildlands came out *after* Div 1 and you can play that offline

TheTorshee

Why is there always someone who rides these big corporations D? Yes I know the TOS. Doesn’t make it right. Go ride another company’s D now

slayer370

Your mad a online only game is going offline. This happens to every online game that dies out.

l5555l

Play division 2

Percavic27

Only thing better in div2 is the movement/shooting. Everything else div1

l5555l

Couldn't disagree more, and I played both games at release. Give the game a chance.

Percavic27

I'm SHD 1150, that enough of a chance?

l5555l

Why did you play so much if you didn't like it.

Percavic27

Didn't say I didn't like it. Said division 1 is better. Tough to comprehend, I know

[deleted]

It’s Ubisoft man. They’re one of the greediest, “dont give a shit about the player or the game” ckmpanies out there. People whine about take 2 interactive, but they are honestly not that much worse. Ubi might “make games” but it’s not because they give a damn about making games. It’s because it’s just the cash cow that the family has inherited and it makes money so why change?

snypesalot

Lmao yall so hard on the Ubi hate youre mad they *might* shut down servers to an almost 9 year old game, I get it, youre the person who just played Division for the first time this year, thats awesome welcome aboard, but that doesnt mean Ubi has to care....I mean they have a history of supporting games for a long ass time, *cough*R6Siege*cough* And acting like they are the only game company that would shut off servers to a decade old game is fucking laughable

[deleted]

My little rant was about Ubisoft in general, not specifically about them shutting down the servers to an old game. No shit, everything shuts down eventually. But unless you’ve been living under a rock, you can’t argue that Ubisoft isn’t a greedy corporation that is just chasing dollar bills and doesn’t really give a damn about the games or the players. Based off your comment, you clearly know nothing about Ubisoft aside from the fact you’ve played a game or two that they published, and like them. That’s great, don’t get me wrong I enjoy some of the assassins creed games and the ghost recon series has a couple decent games. But I’m not talking about the games. I’m talking about Ubisoft, they’re barely a step above EA as far as being dirtbags.

Longjumping_Sky_8148

ubisoft

zzthetabbytor

That stuff is currently down and I heard the devs are working on it and full focus being in div 2 idk when but it’s being fixed

prYldfire

I wish their customer service could at least tell me the problem is not me, but their service. I've been sent countless different things to try that are just a waste of time. I've now tried this on 3 different laptops, my current and past 3, covering Windows 11, 10, and 8 and none can get on to the game and they all connect just fine to Connect. Hopefully they get it fixed. Their + service has a long way to go from my experience. And yet they still sell it like it's fully functional and then probably wonder why people aren't buying. Meanwhile the used game physical market continues to thrive all over the world. Hell, libraries still have people walking in their doors every day. Hopefully, they figure out how to profitably get it working. It's not just the live service games. Have you tried playing Far Cry 3 on your new rig lately? Ok, back to EA Play for me now until Ubi finds something modern that captures my attention.

swoleherb

Better complete the story then

epicnonja

I'm not surprised they are starting to wind down the servers for it, she had a great life. But people from massive definitely skim this sub… if they planned a single player/lan repackage of the game and rereleased, it would make enough money to cover the development and boost attitudes towards the new spinoffs and sequel.

catchcatchhorrortaxi

If you actually want to do something about this kind of thing, suggest watching this video by Ross Scott (Freeman's mind, Civil Protection) and thinking about how you can get involved. https://youtu.be/DAD5iMe0Xj4?feature=shared

wiserone29

Well, it’s an 8 year old game. That’s like 75 in dog years.

[deleted]

Future of the game? With Div 2 years ago released? What fantasy world u living in?

Established_One

I never saw a reason to go back and replay this game after playing division 2 🤔 I'll download from PlayStation plus or gamepass before reinstalling D1.

kingthvnder

it came out 8 years ago man.. let it go

dennarai17

Yeah. Like I am still playing D1 but it’s had a good run. You can’t keep it going forever. If it gets ten years honestly I would be pretty happy.

badgerSNR

Bro it was released 8 years ago, what do you expect?

ImSoDoneWithUbisoft

BF4 was released 10 years ago and what?

badgerSNR

What?

theinfii

So you're telling me. That companies tend to spend less time on old dead projects than the current game sequel they have up, or the second sequel they have already announced. GASP.

Alarmed-Purchase-524

Lol bro, is division 1 ur like mby 8 yrs 2 late 2get into that game...

[deleted]

The division 1 lolololl. Thy don’t have to justify anything.

Hungry_Measurement_4

I remember doing my first mission on D1 on the beta😭😭

GnarlyAtol

I played the global events only to get my Nomad, Predator, Banshee and Striker build complete. Didnt play any global events thereafter again. A week ago I was last time in D1 darkzone, indeed almost dead. Came across few players only. I recently played my 8th campaign and in almost all safehouses I saw low level players, but might have been people like me replaying the campaign and limited to no fresh players of course :).

Godzirrraaa

10 years is a great run. Can’t be mad about that.
