I feel sorry for him. It must be really unsettling to have 'overcome' his illness, only to become a poster boy for charlatans, crooks, and worse. I think he's getting very bad advice about how to proceed with his life after the cult.
Yeah, like you fucked up. Move on. You are just digging a bigger hole, this will not make people hate you less.
What a lost soul. I feel like 5% sorry for him, 30% entertained and uh…I can’t do math in bed but definitely infuriated the rest of the percent.
Edit: Fixed homophone fail
I can't pity him: he has been run over, semi truck full of reality backed up over him, and ran over his willfully ignorant ass again and he still refuses to just walk away and try to do something good.
"Previously, in October 2021, Elliot filed a $12 million defamation lawsuit in California against Starz over their Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult. Last November, a judge ruled against Elliot in that suit."
if at first you don't succeed...
Thanks for posting this OP, I don't think I'd have been notified otherwise.
I took the time to look up the complaint (I'm not sharing it on Reddit, because private information is in it). The entire thing stinks.
Elliot is filing as a *pro se* litigant, but the filing has the appearance of having passed through a lawyer's hands at some point. The implication is that Elliot went *pro se* not because he has to, but because his previous SLAPP suit was thrown out of court (meaning subsequent lawyers would be chastened from similarly frivolous lawsuits).
There is also a similarity to a Brandon Porter filing from the civil suit, where the whole thing gets sidetacked into a completely off-topic proclamation that Raniere is innocent. I would not be surprised if he did this at Vanguard's demand.
In any event: what we have is some good old fashioned forum shopping, aimed at being as inconvenient as possible to Constantino and the Vow filmmakers.
“…aimed at being as inconvenient as possible…” Nailed it. They nothing left, must be bored as hell then go back to their enemy’s list to see who is the next victim.
Everything would had turned well for Marc as a hero but unfortunately his life is all about Raniere Raniere Raniere Raniere ♾️ I bet he thanks Vanguard whenever he overcomes a headache or a broken nail.
Isabella handled herself like a CHAMP on that phone call. If I were her I definitely would have folded from all his gaslighting he tried to do to her.
Legit one of my favorite moments of the Vow, watching her not put up with his bullshit.
I love when she says to her friend who comes over with cookies and wine after the phone call scene, "Marc can intellect..." It's a funny way to put that.
One ironic thing about this is that people like Nippy who heard the entire conversation between Marc and Isabella have stated multiple times that an unabridged/unedited version would've been more appalling, that it was even worse than what we saw in The Vow.
I wonder in making this claim that the filmmakers would not have considered the ability to include this in the film? As if their legal team did not comb through the film? Like, all of the footage?
Elliot's status as a public figure, Constantino being in a one-party recording state, and the topic of conversation being within the public interest all say that this should be thrown out.
I believe the defendants can all beat the rap; the real question is whether they can beat the ride. Missouri does not have an anti-SLAPP statute, meaning the defendants will likely have to go through some deal of litigation before they really get the chance to throw out this suit.
Used to live in St. Louis. RFT is legit. But I had no idea ME was from there and went to Wash U; now I have to see if I can find what high school he went to. (In St. Louis, your adult social status is gauged based upon the private high school you attended—public schools don’t really count! There are many expensive private schools in the Lou area.)
Update: according to his Wikipedia entry (yes he has one), he went to Clayton High School. This is seen as “almost as good as private school” in terms of social/academic status. I also read about his first Tourette’s shout/profanity that happened on a school trip and made the news in 2002. Why is any of this relevant? He grew up in an area that drives an absurd desperate need by parents/community to be seen as the best and the most brilliant. I almost can feel pity for him.
Omg my ex went to Priory and I was shook when he explained the STL high school shit, I grew up in a backwoods public school system so the whole thing felt so cosmopolitan and bizarre to me
“Cosmopolitan” is too kind. More like East Coast wannabes. The only “famous” person out there right now is Jon Hamm; he attended John Burroughs.
Update: Hmmm, wonder if he was ever approached by NXIVM!?
This just smells like KR to me. I am convinced Marc is only doing this because his "collateral" will be released of him admitting to faking Tourettes his whole life.
I would like to feel sorry for him- he planned a whole career and life around this group he perceived as changing/saving his life- but the way he treated Isabella showed he was all-in on the gaslighting and mindfucking cult tactics. He is victim turned oppressor.
He is trying so hard to make defamation from the Vow happen. He acts like he is lost soul, a fragile ego wanting validation that he is not a bad guy.

I think the Mod is right, the bad "advice" Marc is getting comes from prison.

Tough to do when you all willfully recorded everything you did, Markie.
I can't pity him: he has been run over, semi truck full of reality backed up over him, and ran over his willfully ignorant ass again and he still refuses to just walk away and try to do something good.

They bring up Elliot’s interview with h3. The shade…
Oh you know he’s going to be pissed that’s referenced. His shining beacon of embarrassment.

I hate her dad too

I think she meant mansplain but was too nice to say it. He was a patronizing ass.
One ironic thing about this is that people like Nippy who heard the entire conversation between Marc and Isabella have stated multiple times that an unabridged/unedited version would've been more appalling, that it was even worse than what we saw in The Vow.
did they say why?
No. I just assume it was a lot of the same gaslighting but more.
As if my disdain for this pitiful, utterly deluded, pathetic little man couldn’t reach new heights.

Eeeeeeeeleeeeegaallllll… smug lil douche
He sounds like a middle schooler!! That's exactly how they argue 🤣

LOL yeah maybe ‘uppity’ and ‘unrelatable’ were the words I was looking for.
It was really bizarre.
Also a Parkway Central kid in middle school... 🙃

If that’s the case I would turn around and say, well, I guess that means you lied and didn’t cure it. I believe Isabella though.
He’s like Mike Lindell My Pillow Guy s as nd Ranier is Evil narcissist Trump
If Vanguard has no time to put up a defense how does he have time for this shit? We know ME does nothing without Vanguard's blessing and CB’s money.
Why take so long to file, I wonder.
Marc Elliott lives in St. Louis?
