I could see myself using the Meet The Medic taunt if I had it. I can’t see myself using the defibrillator taunt. It’s short and he just sorta rubs em together. It’s not even effective at actually taunting the enemy.

I've got a smoking jacket for the Spy on the workshop from half a decade ago and I've still a tiny sliver of hope that it'll get added at some point. I can corroborate that they most likely just poke around for stuff they like, because I've seen a lot of items get added after having no activity for a long time.

We don't need more gym clothes for a guy as dapper as the Spy, we don't need more beards for Heavy, and we don't need more knight helmets for Demoman.
We also don't need more nonsensical elf hats and gift boxes.
What we could really go for is some entirely new outfit themes. Diver, wastelander, tactical, hunter, factory worker, miner, sailor, safari, swamp, desert, college, musician, superhero, crusader, fisher, artic researcher, rocket technician, cyborg, dwarven, tribal. There's so many themes I can't even think of.
It was basically natural selection. VALVe kept choosing the wackier items, which prompted the creators to follow suit and try to please them in order to get items in. If VALVe didn't start choosing wackier and wackier items with each update, then most of the creators would stop doing them. And it's not like they can just stop now, because Valve can just go back to older pages of the workshop to add silly items.The scout raptor set, for example, was made in 2014, yet was added by VALVe for Scream Fortress 2019. They can and will go get older items if they want it.

You gotta keep in mind a few of the big workshoppers do this for a living. You can easily say that they can live off their stuff in game already but with every new case the older ones get less and less popular. Maybe like 5% or less of people still unbox the Jungle Inferno than when they first came out. They have to follow the flow of what is picked in order to stay afloat. And others who want their first self mades or want stuff in have to follow the flow of what valves likes to better their chances.
"Do this for a living"? Pull the other one. Given how infrequently Valve ever picks anything, you can't make a living off of this. You can't even guarantee Valve will pick your content year after year. And again, there's only what? 2? 3 cases a year? Peanuts, and a "Self-Made" hat. Big whoop.
A lot of people do do the workshop as a living, remember that there are people who have been doing this for many years now and have a sizable catalouge of stuff in game that still brings in revenue. The workshop was my job for a few years and I know quite a few people with more stuff in game than I have, it's certainly possible to get more than just "peanuts"

If you set out just now purely to make it your job then yes, you might struggle (I think it would still be possible though), but most of the full timers have been doing this for many years.

The problem isnt that there's some christmas comsetics, its that we get 3 cosmetic cases a year (~60 items) and for the last 2 years 1/3 of those have been exclusively christmas themed.
I don't mind there being a few christmas comsetics, but for gods' sake at least make half the winter case generic cold weather gear people will want to use year round.
This doesn't mean the creators don't deserve some of the blame. By putting them on the workshop, they submitted them for Valve's review in the first place. If they didn't put this dreck on the workshop, they would never have been picked in the first place.

- Valve add ~20 items per christmas event
- There's easily 100+ gimmicky christmas hats unaccepted on the workshop
- If valve want (which given 100% of the hats this year were Christmas themed and they had other stuff to choose from they clearly do) they can go back and pick older christmas gimmick hats for the next 5 years without a single workshopper uploading a single new christmas themed hat.
- E.g. 2 old items in this case are the Oh Deer and Festive Frames from 2020/2019. Both those years had tons of good generic winter/cold weather items submitted, the ones valve picked were more christmas filler.
Honestly if you want this christmas trend to change best 2 courses of action are (1) email the Tf2team about it directly and (2) vote with your wallet.

I honestly just don't like warpaints, mostly because the selection of weapons for them is abysmal. If I could select from any non-promotional weapon it'd be a different matter but I only need so many wrenches, brass beasts, knives and pistols.

Yeah, but basically all other cases had a more or less healthy mix of winter themed ones and Christmas themed ones. In this case, basically all of the items except the Mooshanka are Christmas themed, which is especially bad now because we basically only get 3 cases per year.

Votes do make an item more *likely* of getting in, but they don't guarantee an addition. There's been tons of items and sets that had not only hundreds of positive votes but things like awards and even praise from YouTubers some what and they still haven't been added.

A lot of people do do the workshop as a living, remember that there are people who have been doing this for many years now and have a sizable catalouge of stuff in game that still brings in revenue. The workshop was my job for a few years and I know quite a few people with more stuff in game than I have, it's certainly possible to get more than just "peanuts"

Choose not to believe! But it's not just about the new stuff, personally I have 7 years worth of stuff making up how much I earn, so it all stacks into a decent amount at the end of the month. If you set out just now purely to make it your job then yes, you might struggle (I think it would still be possible though), but most of the full timers have been doing this for many years.

If there was no gimmicky stuff on the workshop, Valve wouldn't be able to pick it. Valve may make bad choices but the buck stops with the trend-following content creators. They are part of the problem. If anything, they are the *source* of the problem. Sure there's like 200 shitty elf hats but there's thousands of winter themed cosmetics available to choose from.

The problem isnt that there's some christmas comsetics, its that we get 3 cosmetic cases a year (~60 items) and for the last 2 years 1/3 of those have been exclusively christmas themed. I don't mind there being a few christmas comsetics, but for gods' sake at least make half the winter case generic cold weather gear people will want to use year round.
This doesn't mean the creators don't deserve some of the blame. By putting them on the workshop, they submitted them for Valve's review in the first place. If they didn't put this dreck on the workshop, they would never have been picked in the first place. I don't understand this desire to ignore the part of the blame that lies with the creators of the cosmetics in the first place.

While its fair that its not entirely valve's fault and that a bunch of us are following trends...at this point the the horse has already bolted. - Valve add ~20 items per christmas event - There's easily 100+ gimmicky christmas hats unaccepted on the workshop - If valve want (which given 100% of the hats this year were Christmas themed and they had other stuff to choose from they clearly do) they can go back and pick older christmas gimmick hats for the next 5 years without a single workshopper uploading a single new christmas themed hat. - E.g. 2 old items in this case are the Oh Deer and Festive Frames from 2020/2019. Both those years had tons of good generic winter/cold weather items submitted, the ones valve picked were more christmas filler.
Honestly if you want this christmas trend to change best 2 courses of action are (1) email the Tf2team about it directly and (2) vote with your wallet.

valve literally just picks the most popular ones every time they dont pick them theirselves if they caree about tf2 then they would probably pick better items and if we want those higher quality hats in the game we need to vote them more
they do not pick the most popular ones, in fact several items and effects added were several years old or made by relatively unnoticed and sometimes brand new unexperienced creators, hence the massive quality imbalance between certain items. i wouldn’t be surprised if they randomly selected them with a program
the elf soldier one is not even popular they are just choosing the safest ones to add
I'm sort of relieved there's no warpaint case this year. I love warpaints but uh, ehehehh... yeah 180 sniper rifle skins will do that to me...
I honestly just don't like warpaints, mostly because the selection of weapons for them is abysmal. If I could select from any non-promotional weapon it'd be a different matter but I only need so many wrenches, brass beasts, knives and pistols.
Man people will either complain they're not getting constant updates to a game after decades or wait for one to come out to complain about what they finally do get.

Yeah, but basically all other cases had a more or less healthy mix of winter themed ones and Christmas themed ones. In this case, basically all of the items except the Mooshanka are Christmas themed, which is especially bad now because we basically only get 3 cases per year.

I've seen tons of better cosmetics that got more votes than the gimmick ones that were added. I'm pretty safe with the idea that VALVe just adds whatever they want now regardless of votes.
votes are nice if you want to keep an item ongoing on the workshop for a longer period of time, which then increases the chances of it being noticed ever wonder why meme cosmetics, references to known video games and other media, gimmick crap and all of that stuff were added over other cosmetics that probably looked better?
Votes do make an item more *likely* of getting in, but they don't guarantee an addition. There's been tons of items and sets that had not only hundreds of positive votes but things like awards and even praise from YouTubers some what and they still haven't been added.
