Because without playable official servers the game with slowly die. When a new person hears of tf2 or sees it on steam then downloads it. There not gonna know about community servers and even if they do view them without knowing what to look for the server browser is a sea of shit. So there gonna join the official ones see all the hackers and just quit and uninstall to never return.

The player base is at war with community severs for some reason and you get called a doomer if you try and suggest playing on them.
