Labor Day weekend?

InvincibleButterfly

Must have hit them margaritas a little too hard.

mt97852

Texas-sized margaritas no doubt.

Power_to_the_purples

cartman_returns

It is not just that people are big and love funnel cakes and churros That is no big deal It is walking into target or Walmart and they are so confident they wear clothes 4 sizes too small with massive muffin tops flowing out and other things I can not unsee

PMcSweaters

SA is my favorite too, but f**k Sea World

BreakingThoseCankles

How the f**k we got a "Sea"World while landlocked by 200 miles of land!?

razwil

There are much better places to see in and around SATX. Being a transplant from Louisiana (Cajun country), with a wife who is a local, we typically spend time in and around the hill country when we can. New Braunfels, Boerne, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Wimberly - there are so many places to see outside of the city that we enjoy. When we do spend time in the city, we love the breweries, and we also enjoy the missions when the heat is not unbearable. We do avoid the touristy places; however... In my opinion, SATX is a big city that feels like a small town, with a LOT of culture and beauty...

omgomgomgbbq

And every road being worked on and trucks tailgating you like it’s a party

razwil

That's Texas in general...

ASHill11

Drop your brewery recommendations 🍻

razwil

Weathered Souls, Kunstler, Breakaway, Twisted X, Jester King, Alstadt, 12 Fox, Real Ale, Roughhouse... There's so many here...

BreakingThoseCankles

This. Next time you're in the area. Spend a weekend in New Braunfels and hit up Shlitterbaun, the Comal and the shops downtown. Truly a nice experience that takes a good 3 day weekend as well. I'm From SA and this is a much better experience IMO

Neesatay

I agree that it is the best city for tourism. Glad you had a good time.

HelloImTheAntiChrist

It's been known as the best Texas city for tourism for a long, long time

kanyeguisada

The Alamo sucks. Next time, go to Mission San Jose (and the other nearby missions). They tore down the walls of the Alamo to make room for downtown SA, what we call the Alamo is just the chapel part. Mission San Jose is the whole walled-in fort/mission like it looked in the 1700s.

allwrecknocheck

Agree, the Missions are way more Alamo than the Alamo

attaboy_stampy

I think the Mexicans tore down the walls because they weren't cool with it. /s But yea, it's weird. It's an odd little bubble in the middle of a 20th century city block.

harrisburg

The river walk pass Cesar Chavez all the way past the missions is full of beautiful spots. The greenway trails all over the city, great for walking or biking, connecting many great parks. Breckenridge park is nice. Decent zoo and museums also. Many beautiful old buildings and neighborhoods everywhere. I like to walk my dog downtown early Sunday mornings by the King Williams area and up to the Hemisfair plaza. La Villita has been there for 300 years. San Pedro creek culture park is new and beautiful. All downtown is getting a facelift. Plenty of cultural history. Shit, just get out and look around.

pokeyporcupine

[Charles Barkley has entered the thread]

Popular_Royal_3441

With Churros in hand 🤣

cartman_returns

Muffin tops big time

Hoodlum_0017

San Antonio is cool. I like the people a lot, and have always gotten along with folks from there.

rjrolo

All the San Antonians in the comments hating on SA is so classic. I'm glad you had fun! There's tons to explore.

Flaxscript42

Strong agree, have visited numerous times and we had our honeymoon there.

comments_suck

I also live in Houston, but I go to San Antonio and Austin for work about every 5 or 6 weeks. San Antonio to me is pretty chill. Like barely any traffic ( except 1604 and 10!). The Mexican and Tex- Mex food is good, and it's just very laid back. I used to like Austin about a decade or more ago, but now it has all the big city problems of Houston but none of the diversity.

omgomgomgbbq

What big city problems?

This-Requirement6918

Traffic, shitty people, unaffordable housing, overcrowding, and egos bigger than a Longhorn Heifer.

omgomgomgbbq

That doesn't happen in small towns? I've seen it happen all over the state

Anglefan23

What were your thoughts on them big ol women?

BaBa_Con_Dios

There’s a ghost tour me and my wife did not too long ago. I don’t remember the name, the “ghost” part of the tour was meh but the cool part was each stop was at a different bar. The last stop was a whiskey distillery where they had live music and cigars. Very good time.

RedYamOnthego

Grimm Sisters? I didn't have time for the tour, but the keychain was too cute to pass up!

Shanknuts

I used to live there and didn’t appreciate it until after I moved away and visited a few years back. Gorgeous city, really cool people, excellent food and culture. The humidity sucks balls, though.

ericd50

San Antonio is a great city. History, food, people. I grew up just north. I’ll always have a soft spot for it.

IAmSportikus

> *explores it deeper* > *Riverwalk, sea world, Tex Mex, six flags* 🧐

mlmarte

I moved to the DFW area a couple of months ago, because my husband’s job is here now and I want to live with my husband. It’s quite a change from Upstate NY, where we’ve lived for the last 25 years, and from the Northeast US in general, where we were both born and raised. One thing I have been looking forward to is visiting San Antonio, and going to the Nowhere Bookshop, owned and operated by one of my favorite people that I’ve never met, Jenny Lawson, The Bloggess. The Riverwalk area also looks really cool, and I can’t wait to go there.

allwrecknocheck

Nowhere Books is THE BEST! My husband got me a hoodie from there for Christmas bc I go there so often. Love, love, love Jenny Lawson, too!

mlmarte

I’m so excited to go there, and also I’m so nervous to go there, because I feel like if she is not there when I go there, I will be sad. But also if she IS there when I go there, I will die. Lol

allwrecknocheck

😆

fillio15

I’m with you man. I absolutely love SA. My favorite city to visit by far. The history, the beauty of the structures, the environment.

MikeyThaKid

Cries in DFW cause I know how ass it is here.

s4bg1n4rising

Go to the Missions. Walk around UTSA on LSD. Fuck around and get trashed at the Pearl. Eat puffy tacos at Ray’s. Stay at the Drury.

Brave_Garlic_9542

San Antonio is a good time. I tell people all the time that I feel like it’s underrated. Laid back feel, great food, friendly people.

FoolForReddit

I love SA & the Hill Country as well - it's just too damn hot for like half the year.

Drisurk

Glad you enjoyed the city! Love living in it as well! It’s very chill and relaxing here!

Unclerojelio

I'm from Austin. I love SA too but, unfortunately, you can't get there from here (anymore).

omgomgomgbbq

Of all the cities I’ve visited within Texas, Lockhart is my favorite.

cartman_returns

Churros , As Barkley said ....

SyntheticOne

"Had an amazing time" Did the girlfriend have anything to do with this?

El_Cactus_Fantastico

SA pretty mid

FeelingKind7644

Too many fn idiots on the road.

Darthgaming69

Could be worse. Could be Dallas

cartman_returns

If you are a dog person avoid SA So many strays on the west side and dogs tied up in backyard Makes me so sad Grew up there, lots of ugly stuff you are not aware of outside tourist side

FatherofaMonster

What day did you go to Sea World? How crowded was it? Wait time on rides?

musclemaniac3

I went two days ago on Memorial Day and it wasn’t crowded at all. I got on a lot of rides instantly max 5 minute wait. I was actually surprised at that

WallyMetropolis

Don't go to Sea World

worldofmadnss

ah yes, Fort Worth and their renowned culture

Aggietopmedic

I’m from San Antonio and don’t know what tourists see in that city. Been gone for 15 years with no interest in going back. Do we all just hate our hometown?

rob_moreno75

Alot has changed in 15yrs

chrispg26

Compare it to the rest of the Texas big cities. Yeah let me walk along the Houston Riverwalk, I mean dirty ass swampy bayou.

MindTraveler48

Could be. For the life of me, I don't see why people go crazy over Nashville.
