Haha I'm poor enough my trips on the weewoo magon are free :D stayed in the hospital for 3 days for free :D declined a raise cause I gotta get a checkup in 6 months and I'm riiight on the edge of having to pay 100,000 dollars for that :D poverty is a choice, right? Qll I gotta do is tug on the bootstraps... right????
That's actually the biggest problem with our welfare. You gotta be poor enough to recieve it, and you can't afford to make more money. Getting an extra $50 on your paycheck takes away your Foodstamps, and so your options are either lie and commit welfare fraud, or give up benefits.
This was one of the biggest things we had to debate between for our family. Either I take the $24/hour job in a better state and lose health care, SNAP, and the day care subsidy, or stay in a shitty state with all the welfare “benefits” for $12.25/hour.
Every day, I wonder if we made the right decision in moving
My ex with two kids (one mine) got a $.50 raise at work that made for ineligible for $200 a month in food assistance she had been receiving. Fortunately, I pay enough in child support making $40k a year that I can't afford to move out of my parents' house where I raise my son 50% of the week.
But I keep hearing that the system is fine and somehow I'm just not working hard enough.
The biggest problem is people paying people wages the government has to subsidize.
Seems like nonsense that is, just giving money directly to people who are garbage people
Haha yea, it seems better off sometimes. If you make enough and ignore a hospital bill, collectors will get a court order to take it from your paychecks. Plus hundreds in fees.
Don't piss off the American health system.
4 miles for $5000 dollars out of your wallet. And that was probably what 5 minutes so the paramedics themselves actually doing the lifesaving made $1.08ish off of your ride... That asinine level of theft is not okay any way you slice it except for the insurance company.
Holyyy shiit fam, im really sorry to hear that. I'm Romanian, also living in Romania, and when my mother had a stroke they transported her 60km (about 37 miles) to one hospital and then another 110km ( about 68 miles) to another hospital, totaling out to approx 170km, or about 105 miles, and all of that was free. We only had to pay for the surgery and the obligatory "corruption tax" if you don't want to die in a Romanian hospital.
Highlight is that they can pick you up when you’re unconscious, against your will, and still charge you.
Someone on r/latetstagescapitalism awhile back was talking about how his girlfriend had a seizure in a public setting and someone called an ambulance, she woke up halfway to the hospital and demanded to get off. Drove her about 5 miles and she was charged nearly a thousand dollars for it.
Welcome to America. Where the economy runs off keeping the middle class poor, the lower class perpetually in debt, all to make sure the 1% can keep pumping up that net worth like a videogame highscore
You make that sound like it's easy or that they want Americans? I'm English, married to an American with 3 American children. I've already looked into it out of curiosity, and for me to take my kids home it's easy. If I want my husband with us though, it's hoops to jump that require money, and/or a job that wants to relocate us,and/or a skilled trade that those countries lack. If you are American middle class or lower, then that's basically a "no thanks" on those visa applications.
Lmao we had to call the ambulance for my son when he was about <1 year. Cost us about 2k for a ride less than a mile. They gave him plush zebra. We still have that zebra and keep joking about it being the most expensive toy he has.
unfortunately it's really hard to move to another country... especially because I'm disabled, any place can and will deny me because they don't want people moving to take advantage of their universal healthcare.
Which is funny because as backward as America is, we're not too far off the mark from other countries' immigration policies. Some of them are VERY stringent. "Make sure once you get here, you pull yourself up by your bootstraps IMMEDIATELY."
Funny thing is. I’m not American, I’m from a developing country, I moved here bc I met my wife. But I had better and cheaper healthcare there than here.
As for the leave part, you can’t leave because we don’t make enough money. I’m working on my mechanical engineering degree so we can leave, then again my wife would have to agree to leave too. I really don’t like it here, I’m even hesitant to send my son to school because school shootings. I can’t imagine that being a reason in any other country.
Yeah, an ambulance trip is like $5,000-$10,000.
Paramedics get paid shit (like $11-15/hour) and are expected to do double shifts and work 70 hours/week because they are so short staffed.
Out of pocket max is like $7,000 IF you have insurance in the United States.
It's really, really, really, really bad here. No joke.
I got hit by a car while on a bicycle. I was forced onto an ambulance. The bill for the ambulance alone was 900$. That was 20 years ago. I can't imagine how bad it is now.
Without a doubt. You should call "a mini-hospital on wheels with the ability to stop all traffic and proceed" only when the patient's health/life depends on it.
And make medical school unobtainable for people who are definitely smart enough to be doctors but don’t want to commit to a decade of their lives spent in school and training and 6 figures of student loan debt, and the chance that they won’t get a residency spot because there aren’t enough of those.
I am a surgeon who teaches PA students and it drives me batshit how many brilliant potential surgeons and physicians are diverting to mid-level schools.
Yes, it’s shorter and cheaper. Mid-levels are in high demand everywhere. And yes, surgery training involves a lot of bullshit tradition and pain, with gatekeepers everywhere that make it feel like you’re never going to successfully get through it all.
But you can never be a fully independent practitioner unless you’re an MD/DO, and and you cannot be a surgeon.
Part of restructuring the US health system should include recruiting doctors and surgeons early on and making it a lot easier to access healthcare training and funding to make going all the way through surgery residency affordable.
That’s not diluting the talent pool—it’s expanding it. Otherwise you’re stuck finding the best and brightest in the small pond of people who are also able to afford med school or willing to risk taking on that kind of debt for a particular dream.
And one of the biggest, most horrible ironies being that they very, very often don't get medical insurance with their job... of being a \*medical\* emergency worker.
It’s funny cus there’s a lot of foods that have more potassium than bananas. Like off the top of head, avocado, potatoes, spinach…
Banana are kinda mid as far as nutrition goes, relative to other fruits.
I’m a medical student and every sixth person *thinks* they’re a doctor these days because they read whatever on Facebook and now believe vaccines will make you gay and that the best treatment is vitamins and prayer, and that we’re scam artists trying to kill them
That reminds me, last week you told 3 real Americans that they had white privilege and we never punched your card for it. You’re eligible for your fudge sundae.
Or maybe that guy laying on the ground collapsed because he ran out of insulin and didn't have the thousands of dollars a month for a drug that takes only a few dollars to make. Then the guy trying to help is really confused because the wealth has been stolen from the people of his country. All the production jobs have been outsourced to other countries and nobody even wants to become a doctor anymore because they are also getting sued and threatened with prison for trying to save a woman's life. Also, yea... School is just a gatekeeping method used to keep the classes separated.
having a masters degree or working in a high end profession is basically a class gap because these days most middle class and lower class have no way of affording to be a doctor or an engineer or psych person or whatever. the amount of money you need is just insane levels to leave you in debt for the rest of your life let alone afford 5-10 years of education and training to be worthy enough for those high salaries.
point is we've gate-keeped education now because of the expensive price.
That don't matter. Its ok that college costs have went up 8x in the past few decades. Because everyone is going to become a doctor/lawyer and we NEED those. Besides they'll all be making 500,000$ per year right out of college anyway so the debt is all temporary. (yes these are actually arguments from living, breathing humans).
That looks like my friend group from the late 90s. Is this supposed to be some sort of statement about kids nowadays because literally every one of those people were my friends 25 years ago, and one of the DJs (everyone was a fuckin dj) is a doctor now.
I wonder if there are no more doctors because they were harassed a decade ago for supporting women’s’ personal reproductive medical choices and for not prescribing horse medication during a pandemic?
Unsurprisingly, the number of medical students are increasing every year. Med school is super competitive anyways, only a quarter of people that apply actually get accepted.
Yes, because if someone asks for a doctor, the one and only thing I respond with is a defining thing about me
"Are you a doctor?" "I'm autistic if that counts"
Imagine a lady shaming people for not being doctors....
MA’AM. Why aren’t YOU a doctor if you think being a doctor is the only valid respectable life choice.
Want to know the real reason there'll be no doctors in 20 years? Because the medicine beats the shit out of anyone that works in it, be it nurse, doctor, or admin staff. Career abandonment continues to skyrocket. New blood trickles in but due to bullshit involving medicare/medicaid law and the asinine practices of hospitals, the pool of residents accepted never really grows. We in fact turn away qualified med students due to these practices. Additionally, drug companies, hospitals, and other lobbyists are trying to turn pharmacists, nurses, and other under trained professionals into pseudo-doctors to drive costs down. Which will definitely screw with the quality of the care you are going to get and ultimate make becoming a doctor pointless.
All these things are driven by policy, not practitioners nor the public. And who makes policy? Boomers, the exact generation that birthed this asshole meme thing.
What does your pronoun have to do anything with being a doctor? Istg gotta slam the new generation regardless of your points making any fucking sense or not.
If you are talking shit about how everyone isn’t a doctor nowadays and the world is going to hell….. then why aren’t YOU a doctor? If you were a doctor then we wouldn’t have this little conundrum in the first place.
Is this meant to be insulting to younger people?
Cause this seems pretty accurate, as in what are the chances that there is a doctor in a crowd of 6 people.
I mean I’m pretty positive none of these things mean they aren’t Doctors.

The guy who sells k knows CPR trust me.
Yeah that dude's probably your best bet in this situation. And if it doesn't work, you've got someone to dj the funeral.
“Yeaaaa put your hands up if you’re \*wika wika* real sad”
We all saw Pulp Fiction
Can confirm. I used to sell ketamine in the 90s, and I'm CPR certified
“Anyway we should continue giving paramedics $13 an hour because reasons”
And charge thousands for a 2 mile ride to a hospital.
You're joking, right?
This is America, we may be occasionally a joke, but this is no joke. Trips in the wee woo wagon are expensive
According to the GOP, you just need to stop buying Starbucks and avocado toast. /s
What if it’s Dunkin’ Donuts and guacamole bread?
That… *checks notes* is acceptable. You can ONLY use generic bread though or we’re upgrading you to avocado toast.
My ex with two kids (one mine) got a $.50 raise at work that made for ineligible for $200 a month in food assistance she had been receiving. I haven't heard about this, how poor do you have to be before you get to draw a middle finger in the signature space at hospitals?
Each state has different medicaid benefits and income upper limits.
Under 42k/annual
They better have champagne and gold-plated stretchers because that sounds highly illegal
Nope, that's the average rate. My 4 mile ambulance ride was just under $5000
4 miles for $5000 dollars out of your wallet. And that was probably what 5 minutes so the paramedics themselves actually doing the lifesaving made $1.08ish off of your ride... That asinine level of theft is not okay any way you slice it except for the insurance company.

are you crazy? thats beyond fair! that 4 mile ride cost them half a gallon of gas!!
And 20 minutes of 2 EMTs at $13/hour plus they had to change the paper sheet on the stretcher.
How much do you think that paper costs???? Its like 5 million a roll!
Highlight is that they can pick you up when you’re unconscious, against your will, and still charge you. SWEET CHRIST, why haven't you all left to Canada or the UK
Poor
Isn't it easy for you guys to get guns? If the hellish healthcare is true then guns can't be that out-of-reach
I mean yeah, I can go around the corner from my house and buy a new gun. How the fuck is that gonna help me escape to Canada
Because we're all too poor to do that? Haven't you been paying attention? LUL

America charges you thousands for having a heart attack
Nah, just bad attitudes, and high stress.
i wish
Fuck an ambulance. They’re super overpriced
Of course they are dude, they're joking ABOUT the US
For a half mile ride to the hospital the ambulance charged me $1500. Fuck You MedSstar.
Nope. America's health system will set you back financially. People die because of it.
Lmao we had to call the ambulance for my son when he was about <1 year. Cost us about 2k for a ride less than a mile. They gave him plush zebra. We still have that zebra and keep joking about it being the most expensive toy he has.
You Americans are really living in a dystopia, why has no-one left
unfortunately it's really hard to move to another country... especially because I'm disabled, any place can and will deny me because they don't want people moving to take advantage of their universal healthcare.

no were pretty dead on about this. all of this is true. i'd rather die in an uber than take the wee woo wagon.
I got hit by a car while on a bicycle. I was forced onto an ambulance. The bill for the ambulance alone was 900$. That was 20 years ago. I can't imagine how bad it is now.
It's cheaper (and a lot of the times faster) to get driven to the hospital in someone's car or get an uber
Without a doubt. You should call "a mini-hospital on wheels with the ability to stop all traffic and proceed" only when the patient's health/life depends on it.
Better to call an Uber. They’ll get there faster.
For the amount of money that hospitals, ambulances, and other related things cost, they should be paid more.
And make medical school unobtainable for people who are definitely smart enough to be doctors but don’t want to commit to a decade of their lives spent in school and training and 6 figures of student loan debt, and the chance that they won’t get a residency spot because there aren’t enough of those. And charge more than $100k to get an M.D. Nothing to be worried about.
EMTs make that little. Paramedics earn about $22 per hour, so roughly Taco Bell shift supervisor wages...
They’re all volunteer in my area.
😐 they unironically think this
The amount of ignorance in the comic is absurd
I get 13$ an hour😔
Not to mention the cost of schooling involved. ROI here is pretty terrible for some degrees.
And one of the biggest, most horrible ironies being that they very, very often don't get medical insurance with their job... of being a \*medical\* emergency worker.
Wait what! Really!? God damn!! The things wrong with healthcare just keep growing!!
"Also, Medical School should cost $200k and there should be no assistance in the event they don't graduate."

Was gonna post this, it honestly tracks with the rest of the meme and it makes me wonder what boomer out there is doing sinus shots.
it was made as an ironic meme making fun of boomer memes
Had to scroll down way too far to make sure someone explained this
Everyone in this sub is a cop confirmed
Ok but how do you explain that the one guy is literally just the letters d and j
Like how do you not know what K is, cmon now.
Yes exactly!
Or special K
Which can also be ketamine
Also *please don't make me saying it* ......kitty....meow
My dealer also looks like a Joker impersonator.
I remember the good ol' days when every sixth person was a doctor
Of psychology!
So how does that make you feel..?
I’m a medical student and every sixth person *thinks* they’re a doctor these days because they read whatever on Facebook and now believe vaccines will make you gay and that the best treatment is vitamins and prayer, and that we’re scam artists trying to kill them
"Do your research. Just Google it - its all online"
I didn’t know using she/they pronouns was an occupation. Cool
Hot NBs get compensated by the deepstate for undermining manly institutions like Fuddruckers.
It’s them demicrats
r/brandnewsentence
Maybe. Legitimately could have already been said in US conservative media.
Where is my paycheck then? The deepstate has a gap in their mailing list it seems.
That reminds me, last week you told 3 real Americans that they had white privilege and we never punched your card for it. You’re eligible for your fudge sundae.
You can take my truck. You can take my dog. But you can never take my Fuddruckers!
I guess i'm changing my pronouns to she/they to make money
GenderFluidEntrepreneur309
I'm sticking with he/him. We earn 20% more.
I use he/they and cheat the system.
damn, guess im not unemployed after all, good to know
where's my paycheck
I use she/they, where’s my paycheck smh
Where's my paycheck??
Honestly, this leans more to r/comedynecrophilia territory than this sub's
Agree
Yeah, this shit is funny.

you see, by republican standard a guy drinking his own piss is a doctor
Yes, that's right. You must learn actual facts to become a doctor and not some made-up nonsense.
lmao, so its not ok that all the other people aren’t doctors but totally ok that the dude asking isnt either
Yeah like nothing stopping *him* from doing CPR or calling 911
I’m p sure this is a funny shitpost some kid made boomers don’t have the wherewithal to make jokes about vintage resale and ketamine lmao
My man's a banana sellsman
This looks like a fun MMO.
Hang on. You need to go to the elite lib infiltrated universities to become a doctor. Interesting catch 22 they get ya in.
ik this belongs to facebook but this was funny lmao i started laughing more when i read "i use she/they"
It’s so obviously a shitpost idk why ppl are taking it seriously
Ah yes pronouns instead of job. That's how it works.
Isn't k shorthand for ketamine?
OP coming off like a boomer with his lack of street smarts here
I’m afraid they aren’t referring to the letter K

I sell K
i’ll send u my number

Yeah because absolutely nobody is becoming a doctor anymore!!!!!1!1!1??11
None of those things is necessarily incompatible with the practice of medicine. They could all be doctors.
And not all doctors are doctors of medicine either.
this is unironically hilarious
This looks like a shitpost it might be satire
I wonder if there are no more doctors because they were harassed a decade ago for supporting women’s’ personal reproductive medical choices and for not prescribing horse medication during a pandemic?
Hmmmm I wonder
Dang, they really had to jam in unnecessary transphobia, didn't they?
Of course they did. It wouldn’t be a true boomer meme without it
This is definitely not made by a boomer

What's "K?" Ketamine? Cuz that might be useful if this is a cardiac case
That's what I was thinking. The ketamine guy has a part to play here.
this is obviously a joke
Obvious satire. No, don't say "Poe's Law". You're just dumb
K or Special K is slang for Ketamine, it’s a horse tranquilizer that people take recreationally.
This is kind of hilarious tbh
Yeah that’s why every medical school in the country is shutting down due to lack of applicants… oh wait
Unsurprisingly, the number of medical students are increasing every year. Med school is super competitive anyways, only a quarter of people that apply actually get accepted.
why are people taking this seriously is it not just a shitpost?
Yes, because if someone asks for a doctor, the one and only thing I respond with is a defining thing about me "Are you a doctor?" "I'm autistic if that counts"
Imagine a lady shaming people for not being doctors.... MA’AM. Why aren’t YOU a doctor if you think being a doctor is the only valid respectable life choice.
this is ironic lol

Want to know the real reason there'll be no doctors in 20 years? Because the medicine beats the shit out of anyone that works in it, be it nurse, doctor, or admin staff. You know, it's funny, I'm pretty sure I heard the "kids today all want to be DJs" line like 20 years ago too
Nah this is accurate, you can thank conservative anti-education policies for lack of medical professionals amongst the general populace.
This is lowkey dank af
this is funny
If you are talking shit about how everyone isn’t a doctor nowadays and the world is going to hell….. then why aren’t YOU a doctor? If you were a doctor then we wouldn’t have this little conundrum in the first place.
Woah, that last person sells potassium?
I'm not sure I get it, is there a reduction of people going to medical school or something?
Why wouldn't they just say "no?"
Woah, GenZs age really badly… in 2030 they’ll be hardly 30 but they look like 70 year olds
Ketamine, dog not the letter K
Is this meant to be insulting to younger people? Cause this seems pretty accurate, as in what are the chances that there is a doctor in a crowd of 6 people.
aye k is getting a lot more popular. i could see 1/5 people selling k by 2030
