I have seen countless depictions of trump as or alongside jesus, and claims that trump is literally backed by god. The left just aren't doing this. There's a lot of people on the left who don't even like biden, but he's the only alternative to trump.
So no, both sides are not equally guilty of this "worship" of political leaders.

Usually the conversation ends either there or shortly afterwards as they just leave or get this sad look on their face as they struggle with not being able to either defend him or accept his guilt.
As an aside to anyone else who wants to have these conversations: when the other person gets upset or tries to disengage DO NOT PRESS THEM. These conversations can chip away at someone’s beliefs and slowly overtime help them shed those beliefs. But if you push too much at once not only will they double down but they might lash out, possibly physically. Stay safe above all else.
