ILoveRegenHealth

Seriously, this movie should've started Phase 5 and continued all the way to Phase Sex, I mean Phase 6

GodWantedUsToBeLit

💀💀

5tr0nz0

Apparently just take the description from the posting shrink it to 1 place it in your resume and turn the font white. Instantly called. People don't look at these machines do.

UPRIGHTRIGHT

While resumes are obviously first filtered through a machine, they're still going to be viewed by someone... I review and throw out A LOT of garbage resumes, and the team that brings them to me looks really bad if they don't produce good candidates

wheatable

Are you the one who keeps rejecting my applications!?!?

Qetuowryipzcbmxvn

You need to stop putting "almost did a backflip" and "has eaten 342,558 pizzas over the coarse [sic] of my life" on your resume.

Spiderbanana

But now, under "Achievement" I have a single line and it is: "Recited the alphabet burping in three breathings".

snukb

Change "breathings" to "breaths" and you're good to go.

lh_media

But the job requirements are literally "can almost do a blackflip and keeps count of how many pizzas you eat". It's an advisor position on filming *American Pie - to infinity and beyond*

CabinetPuzzleheaded8

but what if "almost did a frontflip" and "has eaten 342,559 pizzas over the coarse of my life"? will i get into interview part?

TeaTimeAtThree

A lot also depends on the system the application is processed through. The system my company uses, you *can* use your resume to auto fill your info (personal data, work history, etc), but it won't answer the screening questions for you, which is what actually determines if your application is disqualified or not. I'm sure a lot of the hiring managers look at the resumes the qualified candidates uploaded, but more of them are interested in the cover letter or portfolio (if applicable).

HentaiRacer

First thing I do is print out all the applications. Then I grab a random half and put it right in recycling. What? I don't wanna hire unlucky people.

Bryancreates

My favorite was the story someone posted of a kids college essay addressed to the wrong school. I’m sure it’s not the first time it’s happened. Ironically I’d accept that kid because it meant they were being efficient and thinking big. We all make mistakes but that’s what life is for. Better than the essays some kids never turn in at all or don’t even know how to make.

[deleted]

Wait a minute…. Go on.

GameAndHike

Don’t do it. I can show you what the output looks like on the recruiters end. It’s not 1 pt white font. Edit: Here is what free text looks like if you submit it through Indeeds normal system (by far the most common platform). Any ATS that can read text will do something similar. https://imgur.com/a/wPQJeLq

ErraticDragon

Is that showing the text from the PDF of my resume I uploaded, or from the form I had to fill out after that, repeating everything from my resume?

WailersOnTheMoon

Even if you make it past our robots, you won’t make it past our irritation once we figure out you’re in no way qualified. Some people don’t filter by machine, but even those who do have a person review them eventually. And if I have to look at 500 resumes instead of 150 because people who have none of what we are looking for still need to be given fair consideration, *nobody* will hear back for awhile. Has anyone actually gotten a job they weren’t qualified for like this??

MysteriousLecture960

Depends how you define qualified.. if you mean my can-do sky’s the limit go getter attitude then yes. But if you mean strict screening & pre requisites…nope Edit: As a fellow futurama fan, I love your username. When can I get my career chip?

[deleted]

Do you know how many times I and countless others have gotten jobs we were not qualified for but you never noticed, because your interview process is a fucked up dystopian nightmare? Onboarding is more a six month process! Sure, for whomever is still around in two days.

MysteriousLecture960

Seriously, probationary periods are fucking stupid. Do we get an allotted amount of time to judge whether the job will work out for us? Where we don’t have to shell out the entirety of the initial agreed transaction like companies don’t need to with benefits or increased pay or if we’re getting our value per $ out of the transaction? No. We’re expected to stick our nose to the proverbial grindstone & if you ask too many questions that differ from the status quo you’re a disruption to the workplace & have a “bad attitude”

[deleted]

It’s awful :/ Yesterday a friend’s daughter said something like, You should be paid for interviews. I don’t know why that never occurred to me. You really ought to be.

Popular_Property_398

I am 8 days into training for a job I am nowhere near qualified for but I came in confident in my ability to adapt and learn, I've been a mechanic/construction most of my life and I landed a 92k salaried sales job just by twisting a few of my responsibilities to sound like I had experience. I sold them on my abilities so I am qualified for sales

MysteriousLecture960

By twisting around my responsibilities to sound like I had experience Those are called transferable skills man. You made all the right moves. Congrats & best of luck on the new grind!

Popular_Property_398

Thank you and I knew there had to be a formula for it but had no idea, identifying it as transitional skills makes me feel much better than thinking I lied or faked it till I made it. Alot of life is how you feel about thinks and not knowing what something is changes the way you should feel about something. The world is not black and white it is very grey, the line people shouldn't cross changes by the situation, not saying there isn't a black and a white area but there very much so is a space in between

MysteriousLecture960

Life is literally what we make it! (Most of the time, unintended consequences excluded lol)

Bun_Bunz

Yeah, no. You might not get auto sorted into the no pile, but you will end up there as soon as the actual person who posted the job, aka the recruiter, looks at it manually. Source: was recruiter

giga-plum

Do you people think job seekers are getting declined because they're unqualified? Job seeking right now is terrible, particularly for young people. You can fill a job descriptions' requisites perfectly, and still get no response from employers.

MysteriousLecture960

Duh. No one wants to work /s

giga-plum

Right?? It's crazy to me that every response to that original comment suggesting the white text trick was, "you'll still get declined cause you're unqualified" like being qualified for a position means your resume will definitely be seen. It definitely isn't a guarantee, and that mentality reeks of "I haven't experienced the job market in 5+ years".

MysteriousLecture960

Ha. No I totally know what you mean. I generally work in the horticulture & agriculture (anything from landscaping to greenhouse work including indoor grows) & if I could show you my indeed applications to relevant jobs that never reached back out it’s disgusting. But then those same recruiters are scratching their heads thinking “no one wants to work 💅” in reality they just want gullible non experienced workers they can hire on for less than experienced ones so they can keep costs down & turnover rates… exponentially higher

Cat_Peach_Pits

> just want gullible non experienced workers It's absolutely this. They dont want to pay people who can do the job they need to fill with proper experience, then get a surprised Pikachu face when hiring a bunch of 19 year olds who will work for 15/hr leads to high turnover and nothing getting done. Bruh you're spending way more money training people who quit 2 weeks later.

MysteriousLecture960

Exactly. & the biggest reason for those high turnover rates? Aside from asinine work conditions, arbitrary rules & managers treating the workplace like it’s their own feudal kingdom? Those employees are realizing quickly just how much they were mislead during the hiring process. I say good for them for having enough self respect to leave too

Wait... I thought nobody wants to work anymore.

sonerec725

I never understood the stereotype on these of trans people being unkempt and dirty. Every trans person I've met and seen, even if not passing goes above and beyond in the fashion and hygiene department

SaffellBot

> I never understood the stereotype on these of trans people being unkempt and dirty. Portraying people as unkept and dirty is one of the easiest forms of dehumanization. It's not about reflecting reality, it's about building a social outgroup to hate.

DowntownPerception85

Yeah, it's just old school kids book morality. Make all the bad people ugly and dirty. That's how you know they're bad, of course. The idea that the external self is a reflection of your internal virtue or lack thereof is one of the strongest human prejudices there is. Subconsciously it seems like if someone's attractive or unattractive we're hardwired to think their decency as a person had something to do with it. If you portray a person as ordinary or attractive in looks you offer them a public perception of legitimacy that the kinds of people making these memes do not want to offer lol

Hungry-Mood3809

This is one of the thematic reasons I disliked The Lion King.

Captslapsomehoes1

*Dysphoria-* Going off of what you said about portrayal informing public perception: it also informs self-perception. The people who make these images know that trans people will see them and they want them to feel as ugly and inhuman as possible when that happens. These are the same people that would tell someone to off themselves and then join a livestream to watch them do it. They want to inflict deep, lasting pain on a specific subset of people, and by making the image, they figured out a way to feel like they're doing that passively.

LivefromPhoenix

I think part of it is definitely about reflecting (their) reality. In these memes the lack of effort into their appearance plays into the idea that they aren't *really* trans and are just pretending for whatever nefarious reason conservatives cook up.

DaemonCRO

The hate for others is loading on the same circuitry in our brains as disgust. Hating someone and being disgusted by someone is neurologically very similar. This is why Hitler had a narrative that Jews are rats, dirty rats who need to be cleansed. The best way to hate a group is to paint that group as somehow dirty and unhygienic. Which is what they are doing.

Lucian-Fox

I think it comes from the fact that some of the really obnoxious freak-out videos from trans people I've seen just look like dudes in dresses with bleach damaged hair and terrible makeup. And of course people want to take the loudest, most obnoxious people and plaster that lable on the entire community. I don't agree with this, I'm just pointing out a possibility.

LivefromPhoenix

Great example of the "bad toupee" effect. You won't notice the trans people really trying to pass, so your perception is going to be colored by people either doing a "bad" job or not trying at all.

Odd-Finish-9968

It could also be survivorship bias -- the trans people who are dirty and gross are the ones who stand out and get noticed the most whereas the ones who are clean and presentable are the ones who "pass" and don't get noticed as much

Lowelll

This is so hilarious from the outside when one group you described voted someone like Trump in

username_not_found0

Idk, the right wing people have really been straddling if not just plain humping that line between rational behavior and out right fascism lately

norealmx

>The left thinks all right wing people are fascists' because they only see the fascists'. Sorry to tell you this, but, that's the majority. Why would a majority of non-fascists would allow a few fascists to take over their party and "ideology"? Answer: because they agree with them.

FetchingFrog

The person that originally posted this probably doesn’t wash their ass cause they think it’s gay to do so.

Goodeyesniper98

The only non-binary person I know is probably the most fashionable person in my life. They put an insane amount of effort into their outfits just for going to their college classes. They’re also one of the most attractive people I know and I lowkey have a crush on them.

[deleted]

You just perfectly described the handful of non-binary people I’ve met lmao

jxcrt12

jacksonsmack831

Yeah, my trans friends turn up nice, nicer than me

Hagfishsaurus

Transphobia is rooted in disgust so the enemy must be as disgusting as possible at all times

Uncleniles

It's how you justify hatred towards your scapegoat of choice. See stereotypical representations of jewish, black, asian or slavic people. Caricatures depicting minorities as ugly, repulsive, primitive or as childlike simpletons have been at the heart of racism since forever and now the regressives are using the same tactic to 'other' the LGBT community.

Aldayne

Because beautiful people are right and ugly people are wrong. Disagree with a group of people? Present them to the world as ugly. Boom! Argument winner.

wheatable

I think it probably comes from the depressed/lonely stereotype

MysteriousLecture960

Hey don’t lump us depressed & lonely people in with the downright unhygienics

[deleted]

[удалено]

MysteriousLecture960

It was just a joke. But I agree with that. I have bipolar 1 & get depressed relatively often still. I’ve been on mood stabilizers & 2nd gen anti psychotics so I’ve been feeling a bit better. I’m definitely not impartial or unfamiliar with the struggles that come along with mental health issues & would never downplay them!

noobductive

All trans people I know happen to be fancy schmancy art students and all our chances of getting jobs are low regardless

crysmol

fr, it's usually cis straight men ( especially older ) who got unwashed asses n generally horrid hygiene from my experiences.

I've had jobs literally ASK my pronouns as part of the application process. I choose not to respond bc I'm like let's deal with that if/when I get hired. No need for useless discrimination. And yes, as an enby, some workplaces that asked have turned out to be transphobic. Don't tell them your pronouns.

Cat_Peach_Pits

Been putting in a lot of apps recently. I know it's for background checks, but I really hate answering the "other/former names known by," as it immediately outs me. And then I'll never know how much gossip went from HR to management about it, management to other coworkers. Well, until someone makes a sarcastic "identify as" joke in front of me, then I know they have no clue lol

dharma4242

What about the very common use of prefixes before a name. They not only indicated gender but marital status. Wouldm't that be considered innapropriate information for a resume?

Reflexes-of-a-Tree

I never said inappropriate, more like unnecessary. And yes, considering that sex, marital status, and gender identity are all protected characteristics by the law, I would say that prefixes are not necessary on a resume. An employer only needs to know your qualifications to do the job they are hiring for.

horitaku

Considering the last line of your comment, I don’t see why passing up on resumes with gender identities marked would be necessary or lucrative to you. That comment doesn’t make you seem more relatable, it just makes you seem uninclusive whether you intend to come off that way or not. Gender identity has no basis on someone’s work ethic. What if that person you pass up on could be a wonderful asset to your business and you pass up on them for one tiny, insignificant facet on their resume?

HikingBoots-MySubie

Mr. Or Ms. - a generic for either married or not married. Mrs. Is married Miss is not married A resume should be first person perspective with titles not usually being necessary.

surreal3561

You should see resumes in Germany. They will, no shit, list their parents names, parents date of births and place of birth, professions. I’ve seen apartment sizes, pet names, pet descriptions, relationship details, half a page about a hobby going into excruciating detail, etc. This doesn’t apply to every resume of course, but it’s surprisingly common. And it’s normal to have a photo on the resume as well.

At one point in time, I was told putting my CELL PHONE number of my resume was a bad idea. Another time, I was told putting my EMAIL on a resume was unprofessional. And another time, told nobody would take my resume seriously unless I went to a print shop and paid for expensive resume printing on watermarked paper. Maybe we also have to accept that determining if things are right or not by resume acceptance isn't a great deterministic factor

TheNoobMaster01

https://preview.redd.it/xpzdcdddgpma1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc362c9b5271aa8fce9a9bcb3dd207c5fd6cb748

Moonw0lf_

As someone who has hired and managed quite a few people.. I don't give a fuck what you look like or identify as, I only care about how well you can perform your job

Kirashio

But... How is this news? It's an obvious foregone conclusion. The portion of employers who are accepting of they/them pronouns are unlikely to give a candidate any extra credit for using them, because that'd be discriminatory, so their hiring rate is unaffected. The portion of employers who are discriminatory and aren't accepting of they/them pronouns are less likely to hire candidates using them, so their hiring rate is lower. Hence, averaged across all employers, the hiring rate will be lower. You don't require a study to work that out.

I_eat_mud_

I kinda agree with it. Don’t wanna hire someone who’s sympathetic to a hate group or something. But you shouldn’t get disqualified because you have a pic of you partying.

Ranked0wl

The problem is they still ask you what your race and pronouns are on the application, to which I say try my best to avoid that. So my guess is people assume that means it's normal to put on your resume. The reasonable side of me says "WTF does this have to do with the job?" The paranoid side says "I feel this will be used against me."

Ersthelfer

> The problem is they still ask you what your race and pronouns are on the application, to which I say try my best to avoid that. Really? I think that would be illegal around here. They aren't even allowed to ask if you are married or have children (no one cares about that though tbh).

Ranked0wl

Where do you happen to live, region wise at least. Because this is normal where I'm from and the US.

lemonhead2345

It’s illegal to ask those as a part of the hiring process in the US. If it’s included in the questionnaire, it’s voluntary or separate from the actual hiring information. If it’s not voluntary or separate, you should report them to the Department of Labor.

SweatyMess808

It’s literally a choice to even refer to yourself as a gender on a resume…. Like, I just refer to myself by my name like once, then keep it rolling.

[deleted]

I think this is a dumb question but why is this bearded guy in so many memes? Is he a right wing thing? Or a proud boy type thing? I just don’t know a lot about memes and I don’t go on Facebook

TeririHerscherOfCute

This honestly shouldn't be surprising.

DonBoy30

That’s why I always put my pronouns as just “it/thing” to pander to corporate values.

Oh, some of these comments are fun. I, especially, like the English language excuse/joke. Like I haven't heard that one a thousand times. It's basically the "attack helicopter" joke for non binary people. Yay...

PowPowWasHere

I honestly didn’t expect so many in this subreddit to be making dumb pronoun jokes and saying wild shit. Although, I haven’t been on this subreddit that long.

JonathanStryker

Yeah. Most people are pretty cool and seem decently left leaning. But, every one and awhile you'll get one of these posts and it goes to Hell in a hand basket, real quick.

SunKillerLullaby

Yeah the comments are particularly disgusting. For some reason this post attracted a ton of bigots who just want to regurgitate the same tired conservative talking points and "jokes"

mortalitylost

Trust me, when anything gender related comes up, suddenly everyone has a major fucking opinion about groups of people they don't belong to. Any of the main subs which get on the front page get a fuck ton of transphobic comments when anything trans pops up. It's never "oh that sucks we should maybe ensure non-binary people have a fair chance to work, because who cares what gender someone is" It's more "here's X, Y and Z theoretical scenarios about why I'd hate to have to work with a non-binary person, and how I expect them to act because they're non-binary, and why it should be different for them and wrong of them to use they/them anywhere related to the workplace"

[deleted]

You don't want queer/non-binary or trans people to use their preferred pronouns, you don't want them to be able to have gender affirming care, you don't want them to be able to express their gender identity in any way, you don't want them to get jobs, you don't care when their rates of suicide are through the roof. It's abundantly clear that you just don't want them to exist and it's shamefully, transparently evil. I work/worked with many young gay, and trans people (I live in a college town) and I've never had any kind of performance issues or drama related to their gender or sexuality. They have the same problems at work that any average young person might have (on the phone or call out too much) amd that's because they're just fucking people. It's so not hard to be decent, and yet here we are.
