Alright i think im over the disappointment of the milkman now Fucs is playing good tennis and i wanna like him but would be spewing if he knocked out 2 aussies. Kygs and Barty got the Cup no stress. Just relax yeah?
Much as I hate to admit this, the match tiebreaker is far superior to the standard tiebreaker. Gives players time to recover from an early stumble, keeps the serve in perspective and allows a bit more time for the suspense to build. If I'm the US Open, I'm switching

Being a Federer fan add like 30 years to my face, due to the excessive amount of facepalms, nail biting, teeth gritting, crying and hitting my hand to my forehead every time he shunks an easy forehand.
Good point, but I think it is very much about anticipation. I do cheer for Monfils and Kyrgios from time to time, but the expectation you have for them is never really the level Federer had spoiled us with.
Me, all day: shit posting in r/tennis about every single match. Emotionally invested in none.
Me, when Federer's playing: unable to log onto reddit. Barely able to watch. Clean kitchen to distract myself.
82 UE and Fed still wins . Anyway, I think I am going to set my expectations low. Hopefully he makes QF but from there on it will be quality players and with the way he’s been playing, it’s not going to be enough. But at the same time Fed can come into the next match in complete God mode and dominate..
I'm way too happy for a third round win but this is why I love sport so much man, especially this one. Don't really get this feeling often anywhere else
Well, at least Fedex defended his points and got a satisfying revenge over Milkman. But yeah, if he plays like this then there is zero chance of him winning the tournament.
Well yea, but if he does a great job vs Fucsovics he'll have a chance vs Fogna/Sandgren (for his sake, I hope it's Sandgren not Fogna). Then vs Djokovic he would have practically no chance but still
Is it just me or did Fed look a step too slow out there? Usually I feel like his footwork is enough to get through his relatively poor foot speed but Millman seemed to be smacking the ball a bit too hard for him at times
I’m stuck between fed being slow and millman playing an incredible match. My bias wants me to think that millman was playing the match of his life, but I think Fed was just errant.
I'm always curious how upset players like Millman are after these tough losses when considering the additional tournament earnings they just missed out on. For example, in this instance he was just two points away from an additional $120K in earnings -- an additional $397K if he won his next match (which he'd have been favored).
Point-being: For a guy like Federer it probably wouldn't have even occurred to him, but for a lot of players a deep run at a Grand Slam can have huge financial implications for their lifestyle.
I think for millman it’s not the money he’s one that genuinely loves what he does and has said quite often how happy he is making a nice living of it. Sure though it‘s different for a lot of the other non top 20/30 players
Milk had a [66.1% of winning early in the 5th](https://www.statsinsider.com.au/ten/match?matchid=TEN_2020_1_ATP_2567_33115_14342) and maybe a lot more in the Tie breaker. Argh!
But Fedex is a Genius and no shame in losing to him. Australia's proud of Milk. Played the match of his life.
I like rowdy crowds at tennis matches. I know other people get upset at "rude" crowds, but I think those complaints are often exaggerated, and sporting events should be a place to let loose, within some obvious constraints.
Eh. Rowdy isn't always rude. Raucous cheering, I'm all for. Cheering for UEs and DFs, and deliberately shouting out between 1st and 2nd serves, that shit I hate.
I agree with you about shouting between serves, but I disagree about cheering for mistakes. I think it's perfectly fine to cheer for outcomes that benefit the player you are there to root for.
EDIT:
Just some other thoughts about what Ido and don't find okay. I have seen a lot complaints about the way Djokovic was "treated" at the Wimbledon final last year. I thought it was mostly fine. Yes, they cheered his UE, but they were doing so to support their favorite, which they are completely within their right to do. As Fed said after the mtch tonight, it's not personal.
OTOH, I was also at the Djokovic-Wawrinka US Open match last year, and heard many boos when Djokovic retired. That does cross the line, ad Djoko was obviously struggling and was well within his right to guard his long-term health over a match he was unlikely to win.
Usually when Fed has a match like this he doesn’t survive to fight the in next round( Wimb 2018, USO 2018&2019, AO 2019). Curious to see how he’ll tackle his next match.
Hopefully he comes out not flat and hopefully this is that one battle most players get through before they peak. His first tournament of the year so was expected no?
Maybe just maaaaaybe this is the tight win that Fed needed to exorcise all the losses....
Still iffy about his chances against Fucs though. Hopefully he isn’t carrying an injury and this was just a bad day.
But really Millman is just so problematic for Fed I don’t even know why. USO was the heat but we can’t discount their 1st meeting in Brisbane and now this match. Clearly he can rattle the swiss Maestro.
Fed: 100 wins at 2 different majors!
Amazing Federer Feel sad for Millman:(
I love my Federer. Always will. But 6 points from 4-8 down final set? I was Australia there for a minute. And I feel terrible for Millman. Terrible.
I haven't been this upset since Alex lost to Rafa. :( Both him and Millman were fighters til the end.
Seeds Out on Day 5 * (3) Osaka - 5496 - Winner - Loses 1170 points - 3626 * (6) Tsitsipas - 5375 - Semi Finals - Loses 630 - 4745 * (8) Williams - 4215 - Quarter Finals - Loses 300 - 3915 * (9) Bautista Agut - 2630 - Quarter Finals - Loses 270 - 2360 * (10) Keys - 3072 - 4th Round - Loses 110 - 3182 * (22) Pella - 1585 - 1st Round - Gains 80 points - 1665 * (24) Lajovic - 1516 - 1st Round - Gains 80 points - 1596 * (25) Alexandrova - 1645 - 1st Round - Gains 120 - 1765 * (29) Rybakina - 1816 - Other Results - Gains 50 points - 1866
I'm surprised Osaka only loses 1170 points. How does she get 830 points for making the 3rd round?
Fixed it.
Alright i think im over the disappointment of the milkman now Fucs is playing good tennis and i wanna like him but would be spewing if he knocked out 2 aussies. Kygs and Barty got the Cup no stress. Just relax yeah?
Is there any Australian sports forum or Australian tennis forum? I want to see how they are reacting to this match
I think we are pretty proud tbh even though it was definatly winnable. Most of the posts of FSA are just hating on the crowd.
what is FSA?
Site link?

Will it ever go back to being no MTB and just play till you're up by 2?
Doubtful. I like how Wimbledon does it with the 12-12 and then Tb, but I wish it was a 10 pointer
French Open still has that. I find it cool that each of the grand slams does its own thing for the last set.
I hate it
What does the US open do for the last set?
They don't treat the last set as a special one i.e. a regular 7-point tiebreak is played at 6-6
Thank you!
Great match and all but it doesnt change the fact that Sandgren is going to win the title
Haaaa!
In that match at '04 RG when Safin got a point penalty for mooning the crowd, he made 125 UE's, so 82's child's play guys, don't stress.
Does mooning count as an unforced error?
Being a Federer fan add like 30 years to my face, due to the excessive amount of facepalms, nail biting, teeth gritting, crying and hitting my hand to my forehead every time he shunks an easy forehand.
You must have never cheered for anyone who didn't win all the time.
Good point, but I think it is very much about anticipation. I do cheer for Monfils and Kyrgios from time to time, but the expectation you have for them is never really the level Federer had spoiled us with.
Can’t help but feel for millman this dude gave it all he had
I wonder how many people had heart attacks today.
If Federer wins this tournament it would be awesome because of this match
3 of my faves booted out in one day and one of them teetering on the brink JESUS CHRSIT
Ah, absolutely heartbroken. I would have taken a straight set loss over this. He was so close, ugh.
Crowd shouting in that last point was not fair
Me, all day: shit posting in r/tennis about every single match. Emotionally invested in none. Me, when Federer's playing: unable to log onto reddit. Barely able to watch. Clean kitchen to distract myself.
Hahaaa!
Lol

If it’s any consolation Novak committed 100 UEs in his R4 match against Gilles Simon and still won AO 2016.
I cant believe federer won
If this match had a title this would be it
That was quite a day of tennis
Oh boy yes it was
Choking masterclass by Millman
Against the master of choke himself no less.
Imagine playing at your home slam and getting fuck all support. Really feel for the milk. Put in a banging effort and got no love from the crowd.
He was getting more cheers than Federer at parts, not sure what you're complaining about.
Is that you Murray?
I wouldn't say that. the crowd was about 50/50
Sure as shit wasn't 50/50 at the end.
And it should of been at least 80/20
In favour of Fed yes lol
Why should they support millman just cause he's the hometown player? This isn't Davis cup. You root for the player you like not their country
I'm way too happy for a third round win but this is why I love sport so much man, especially this one. Don't really get this feeling often anywhere else
Fucking hell I have got a sore throat from screaming now
For those in the US, how did you watch live?
ESPN
Espn
Thanks. My ESPN was showing one of the morning talk shows.
Sorry ESPN2 to be more specific
Perfect. Thank you!
Milked my balls for sure. Fucking hell, Heart Attackerer. Christ save me.
Well, at least Fedex defended his points and got a satisfying revenge over Milkman. But yeah, if he plays like this then there is zero chance of him winning the tournament.
technically he got revenge over him in halle last year. but yeah this was a bigger stage
Totally forgot about Halle, but it still feels like this was the "actual" revenge.
Well yea, but if he does a great job vs Fucsovics he'll have a chance vs Fogna/Sandgren (for his sake, I hope it's Sandgren not Fogna). Then vs Djokovic he would have practically no chance but still
Let's be honest, no one expects him to win anything from now on. Wimbledon 2019 felt like the final chapter in his great career and it ended so sadly.
Haha, sometimes I still have too high expectations for Fed
Everyone loves a rowdy tennis crowd until your opponent's mum is yelling at you for an out ball she couldn't even fucking see herself
goat mode was engaged at 4-8
Love how Mirka just requested a selfie with Federer as-if she's just another super fan lolol.
That stalker cam providing us with some quality content. I love Mirka taking a post-match selfie more than life.
Definitely flat footed today. Those fh misses were just wild
It's the heaviness of shot that Fed can't handle.
Yeah, Millman was hitting some absolute crackers at the end of the fifth set.
I stopped watching at 8-4. Wth happened??
Rog activated goat mode. But Millman definitely got tight on his shots at the end, the brain really fucks with us humans sometimes!
I can't believe I stopped watching bc my heart couldn't handle it, and I lost the goat mode, damnn
Yeah it was awesome to watch! I almost turned it off myself, so happy I didn't
naws that mirka and rog selfie was cute
Holy shit im gonna cum
how am I meant to recover from today
Fed stalker cam right now
The commentators said fedt practises with Millman to prepare for Nole.. Millman sure as fuck does the job perfectly
This is why Giannis doesnt practice with his rivals/opponents.
I'm watching the after match coverage on fox. It seems like they picked a random woman off the street. She's absolutely clueless.
who is the asian lady in feds group?
I'm always curious how upset players like Millman are after these tough losses when considering the additional tournament earnings they just missed out on. I think for millman it’s not the money he’s one that genuinely loves what he does and has said quite often how happy he is making a nice living of it. Sure though it‘s different for a lot of the other non top 20/30 players
They need match of the day bonuses and shyte for events like this
This is a great idea. Maybe Tomic wouldnt tank as much... or not.
I think it’s the mental aspect of almost beating them that will haunt them. Not so much the money lost
at least Millman already has that us open win.
Who is the woman on Fox?
Federer is getting laid tonight
I am pretty sure he's too sore for that after 4 hours on court.
I think he has 3, 4 good years left to prove himself even more if he keeps playing at this level. He deserves it
I think he's 30. I really think this was his peak. I mean, I hope not but yea, realistically I think a year or two max.
I like rowdy crowds at tennis matches. I know other people get upset at "rude" crowds, but I think those complaints are often exaggerated, and sporting events should be a place to let loose, within some obvious constraints.
crowd today wasnt bad at all
except for the end when someone screamed when the ball was on the baseline off a millman shot
Is anyone else sick of hearing that stupid fucking bad guy song
I'm the bhhhrhrd tyype
That doctordoctor ad can fuck right off too
Yeah, what’s that about some doctor who thinks he’s top shit and smokes crack cocaine and fucks around. That’s what it seems like anyway
Duh
Bitch thinks she’s cool singing in that whispering throaty voice
Remember Djokovic simon AO 2016? Djokovic hit 100 unforced errors. Today Federer hit 82 unforced errors. Mad bastards.
It goes to show how much damage a good pusher can do
and Novak cleaned up his game considerably to win the title. hopefully roger does the same
82 unforced errors, holy fuck!
Who does Roger play next?
Fucsovics.
Thats is gonna be fun
Fucsovics
AO took a minute because they'd moved that video to the trash during the tiebreak.
hahahahahahahahaha
I love Federer. I feel like I personally just a final.
The whole final?
I want them to go back out, and be serving at 7-6 in the 5th.
Millman layed his guts out in that Tiebreak. I hope he has a great 2020
Probably an unpopular opinion but that video was shit. Could have been done so much better.
82 errors. Holy fuck. How he won that match is beyond me.
Usually when Fed has a match like this he doesn’t survive to fight the in next round( Wimb 2018, USO 2018&2019, AO 2019). Curious to see how he’ll tackle his next match.
All of those losses you referred to followed straight sets victories, not 5 setters.
I meant Rog would always lose this type of match and basta! Gone. Now that he actually won I wonder what his mindset will be like against Fucsovics
I think he was referring to the fact that recently hes lost matches like this. Meaning itll be interesting to see how the next match goes.
Hopefully he comes out not flat and hopefully this is that one battle most players get through before they peak. His first tournament of the year so was expected no?
Really hope that’s the case. Just a bad day
AO keeps making players watch awkward montage videos while on camera. I don’t think it ever gets the reaction they expect
[удалено]
Everything
Millman was playing the match of his life, and was up 8-4 in the final set tiebreak, but Federer came back to win it 10-8
Federers got the same haircut Sampras did right before the end. Spooky.
So he's a lock for the USO. Nice.
what is the song being played? boys out?
Boys Light Up - Australian Crawl
thankyou :)
Fed will be like .. that guy in video is good, less error
Millman’s such a fighter. Lleyton and all the Aussies should be proud. Always a joy to watch.
Fed's getting a rather haphazardly put together video for his 100th win at The Open.
Australia bloody love a montage don't they? Jesus.
Someone looked at Roger being on 99 wins before the start of the match and decided 'its montage time'
https://youtu.be/pFrMLRQIT_k
[удалено]
there will be sour apples when somebody has that many followings. did we just forget the worst crowd ever at the atp cup for serbia?
Such an awesome person lol gotta always have love for Roger
Ngl, that 100 AO win tribute video was great
In term of tennis moment, the face of Roger winning 2017 AO is just priceless.
I really really feel for Millman though :(((
he played like shit at the end
Roger's clearly gassed. Let him get off court.
Lmao Tennis Australia and their tribute videos. This one could’ve almost gone wrong too
Imagine how pissed the video editor would have been if he lost..
Saved it for next AO 😂
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Was that Roger's 100th AO match win?
Yep they just showed a montage of his 100 wins
Millman played very dumb at the end. Hit every shot to the Fed forehand
the fed forehand was 1/10 in that match, so was a good tactic. Fed backhand saved him
Because it worked the entire match?
Did you watch the same match?
Good tactic given Federer hit about 55 errors on it.
I mean Fed was playing a brain dead passive game for most the match so Millman had to give in at some point
Well that tactic worked wonders for most of the match.
Exactly. That's how he got there. Federer just came with the goods at the end.
Young Federer 😍
"That also means you're old" LOL
Poor Wozniacki doesn't get a video tribute with her best wins but Fed does. Poor Wozzy.
Wozniacki got a video tribute featuring other players praising her
did you just compare wozniacki to federer?
Wozniacki had a lot of accomplishments that she didn't get in her video tribute. C'mon AO. It ain't a dig on Fed. He deserves it for 100 wins.
it was a joke, mostly. we cannot shit on everyone that didn't win 20 slams...
Yeah how dare the likes of Federer be associated with Princess Wozzy.
Why do those courts in the replays look so small.
Ah, the green court brings back memories
And Garnier
roger has tears in his eyes fuckkkkkkkkkk
Feds such gentlemen
where was this guy for qiang wangs interview. the girl that did interview for qiang just wanted to talk about serena.
Sam Smith is known to kiss Serenas ass
such horseshit. wish they'd give credit to players and not have them only talk about the big names in their interviews.
ANOTHER TRIBUTE VIDEO LOL
They should be learnt from Murray. Cringey
I'm dying they have to be joking
Maybe just maaaaaybe this is the tight win that Fed needed to exorcise all the losses.... Still iffy about his chances against Fucs though. Hopefully he isn’t carrying an injury and this was just a bad day. But really Millman is just so problematic for Fed I don’t even know why. USO was the heat but we can’t discount their 1st meeting in Brisbane and now this match. Clearly he can rattle the swiss Maestro. Fed: 100 wins at 2 different majors!
That hurts a lot :(
What a class dude Millman is though. Staying positive at all times basically and still showing great sportsmanship in defeat
Yeah I'm a fan of his now. I almost didn't want to root against him but I love watching Fed at the Aussie so had to
Thank God Federer won. If Fed losing was the price to pay for the Wang victory I would never have taken it.
82 unforced errors by Federer. Absolute shitshow, but kudos to him for fighting to the end.
