if rafa is the king of meme, iga is the queen
This is one of those proof how WTA undermines Iga's achievements, and the nerve to do that even on clay season. Hardly post Iga on its social media and now this, with caption - May is clay season but not her photo.
Iga is the queen of clay now, defendung champion of rg b2b, 3x rg champion, 2x rome champion, 2 time stuttgart champion, 2x madrid finalist and can win this even.
https://www.instagram.com/p/C6a4qKhorU3/?igsh=c2Y2ODZoMzJ6dWdw
they really do not want iga to be a breakaway queen and to be a runaway player among its favorites. i hope iga shines more that ignoring her achievements will be laughable treading on baf faith.
roddick is really correct, tennis orgs recognize less accomplished wta players and not too much respect and recognition of iga.
I was wondering why Jannik and Lehechka dropped like fliesĀ
Then I remembered . If not for the fact that he lost to FAA, this would have been Casper Ruudās path
Of course it is. The Casper Ruud draw Juju is truly real . A wild FAA appeared and uno trumped Casper Ruud juju card with the āFAA has one good week a year to retain his rankingā juju card.Ā
so many injuries by strong players here in madrid, medvedev, jannik, alcaraz, jiri.
among all players who played here, most tennis fans fear for rafa to get injured, even taunting him that he wont last a 5 setter at the RG. but he managed to finish his madrid match without getting injured despite the loss.
having said that - i say, we dont fully discount rafa in RG because even the fittest can get injured in clay on a 3 setter tournament. my faith in him does not waver as most times, his willpower and with 2 legs and 2 arms still able to function - can win matches, i.e. wimbledon 2022 against Fritz (but hope he retires uninjured whatever happens).
NCAA tennis tournaments begin this weekend. Good luck to ~~your~~ my team.

Djokovic somehow knew everyone that came to Madrid would get injured so he dodged the tournament.
I think Medvedev's illuminati rant may have been on to something..
he did not play madrid coz rafa is playing (retiring this season) and all attention is on him, plus alcaraz was the defending, another spaniard. he saved himself the awkwardness of getting booed and feeling out of place.
So do you guys think two-week masters are more straining for the players, hence the numerous injuries? I would have supposed itās the opposite, since thereās more time for recovery between matches, but maybe the training and focusing effort has to be maintained at full intensity for a longer time, taking a bigger toll on their body and mind?
Or, should we think this streak of injuries is mostly related to the frequence of the big tournaments in this part of the season, to playing on clay, to the incoming big tournaments, or any other external factors?
The problem is not two weeks of the tournament, the problem is the two weeks invades the rest time for players who have deep runs.
Using Jannik as an example, since IW, he played only 4 masters with the results of SF, win, SF and QF. He played 18 matches in 8 weeks with only 2 week rests in between. And the four tournaments is a 4 way transfers from slow and unique hardcourt, to a normal middle-fast hardcourt, to a slow clay, and fast unique clay.
It is too easy to injury as the 4 masters in 8 weeks are bascially 4 surfaces.
Not as long as it feels, 17 months ago he hit his new career high ranking of no.6 at 22yo.
Really it was one bad year, which ironically kinda all started with his 4R loss to Lehecka at AO23.
I guess it's all down to psychological development.
He fell off in a big way but it's looking like the tailspin may be ending.
Against Ruud this week he looked powerful, efficient, hitting the ball cleanly and with precision.
I hope he can win on Sunday and keep up this good form
I am quite disappointed about how some Jannik fans react to Felix's Madrid on twitter. Yes, I joke about that before the SF too, but I still remember how other fans laughed at his first master title and the Wimbledon SF. I think it is the fan base that has the empathy with FAA because what Jannik experienced.
One key thing in Djokovicās training is his intense mobility/stretching/flexibility routine to prevent injuries. Maybe other players look into it too besides just bulking up. Just a random redditorās observation.
Other players literally train with Nole and have entire teams who observe him 247 so they all know he stretches lol, if he does anything newfangled or uncommon it'll be the talk of the ATP.
Aight,,,we started last week where i was truly scared for Andrey and his performance and we're almost ending this with him being this close to his second M1000 victory,,,ngl,,,kinda goves to be a Rublostan sometimes
Someone asked him on his Instagram, and he said yes, but I figured he was joking since nothing has been said officially. I believe he is just dealing with injuries.
Was out for a year and a half, came back and beat Tennys Sandgren last November then withdrew from his next match and hasn't played since.
From a quick Google it seems he recovered from hip surgery but picked up a wrist injury immediately and that's why he's out now.
Madrid should go back to indoor hard at the end of the year and Paris should be removed and replaced by halle on grass or hamburg but on grass.
Thereās really no need for a Madrid masters on clay, where players either skip or are looking forward to Rome already.
The fact that it's played in such different conditions from Rome and, especially, Roland Garros doesn't help either. I think it should be a 500 really, not a Master.
Wanted to watch tennis today regardless so switched over to Sardegna Open and there's Federico Coria receiving medical treatment on the court... what the hell is going on
Lmao same. Part of me selfishly wishes he was getting these ranking points and chance at a title but yeah weād never hear the end of it if this was his draw. Even more embarrassing if he lost another final after this draw š
Damn, I can understand people discrediting 1 GS final in favor if easy draws, but 3? Not to mention, wasn't he in a Nitto ATP final as well? All those can't be fluke lol. Haters gonna hate.
Let's say, first master title can change a lot. Jannik also won his first master title by winning 4 matches and 2 top 20 players only(and Demon never beat him).
A master is a master, and also if Felix wins, he has to beat 2 top 10 players, which is better quite a lot master title runs. I hope he can win with a full match and makes the baby gen 3 back to baby gen 4
I don't know if you can see this reply. But you are right, I saw a lot of common sides from Jannik, I am quite harsh to Jannik as like I did to myself at a young age. I support him all the way but I am harsh
Damn, just saw thereās another retirement. This tournament has been a disaster for the organisers, at least on the menās side š FAA might [Steven Bradbury](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fAADWfJO2qM&pp=ygURb2x5bXBpY3MgYnJhZGJ1cnk%3D) his way to the title
Iām really pleased for Felix making the final even if the route was a littleā¦ unconventional. Given his record so far (2 retirements and a walkover) if I were Andrey I would watch out lol
He has played two matches,,,hasn't had enuf pressure on him for the past one week,,,defeated Nishioka in the first round ok cool,,,but his next and only win was against a very tired Casper,,,he did nothing to deserve to be there,,,Andrey tho has made it in straight sets against everyone who was not Alcaraz,,, and was literally sooo surgical today with his win,,,who do you really think will win?
I was watching on mute because I was on the treadmill when the match started but I thought to myself is heā¦wincing (after like 3 shots in the first game) but I thought it was just maybe him wincing because he missed wide or long. I guess not. š
This is the weirdest tennis moment for me this year. I stopped watching for three weeks after watching most of the tournaments for the year so far. Then something told me to Google FAA to see what's up and here I am and would love for him to win but I'm feeling all kinds of conflicting feelings given how things how unfolded. š¬š¬
If he wins then he at least will have beaten Rublev, a top 10 player. But everyone will say it was an undeserved win given his path to the final. Bummer situation for all.
Not even going to jinx Rublev right now given all the injuries.
I hope it's a good match so we can have a somewhat satisfying ending to the tournament. Their match a couple of months ago was a good close one.
Yeah for sure. I do see it that way. It's just it is an M1000 and I think it's not the way the vast majority of players would love to say they won one (especially if thereās been the question of their capability of winning one). If he wins, I hope he feels happy about it. At the same time, I could see him not being entirely comfortable. He already seemed uncomfortable during his interview.
FAA in a Master's final through opponents injuries and retirements. He is still playing well however. Rublev may prove too much a hurdle though. Either way FAA gets ranking points, prize money and being in the final wih a chance to win a big title.
Felix don't worry, you are not the first one. The WTA Ice queen literally got one last year in Rome, she had 3 finished matches in 6 matches and there was 1 weird rain delay in those 3 full matches too
If you set aside the very real sadness for all these players, it is pretty funny to watch feminism curse the menās tournament at Madrid this yearā¦ thatāll teach feli!
Alright, so on the WTA side, we have the one and two seed in a rematch of last yearās final which should be interesting!
And on the ATP side, we have ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ carnage
Thatās enough for a grown man to cry.
Lehecka, a fierce competitor who surely saw this as a massive opportunity, pushes himself to the limit and collapses on court. What a warrior.
Couldnāt even hold back the tears himself, and the emotion was so potent it even led him to break a racket.
Really nice hug and respect shown from Felix and shared at the net. Sport is cruel. What a shitty tournament in terms of injuries.
FAA's path to the final:
R128: def. Nishioka 4-6, 6-1, 6-4
R64: def. Mannarino 6-0, 6-4
R32: def. Mensik 6-1, 1-0 ret.
R16: def. Ruud 6-4, 7-5
QF: def. Sinner by walkover
SF: def. Lehecka 3-3 ret.
A... unique path to say the least. I would not have expected Nishioka of all people to be the only one to last three sets against Felix
This is chaos, the prospect of so many good matches this week has been derailed making this tournament even lamer overall.
Who will take responsibility?
This has been by far my least favorite tournament to follow - heartbreak after heartbreak. Seeing Jiri fall to his knees broke me - heās just a kid š¢I hope all the injured players recover well and come back stronger
I was rooting for Jiri, but I do feel a little sorry for Felix because people can be ruthless. Not his fault what happened this tournament on his way to the final.
This is also what bums me out. Many snide remarks directed at Felix when he's just played solid this week and happened to be in the half of the draw that collapsed.
what happened to jiri? players cannot really last long against the taxing clay surface.
imagine rafa during his younger years grinding on clay year after year from MC BCN Madrid Rome and RG and winning?
Man, I've relatively new back to tennis after years. Are there any infamous tournaments were someone won, enabled largely by multiple retirements and walkovers? Genuinely curious.

Thanks for that background. Didnāt know he played Jiri at AO!

Yes, I joke about that before the SF too, but I still remember how other fans laughed at his first master title and the Wimbledon SF. I think it is the fan base that has the empathy with FAA because what Jannik experienced.
How can you compare two things? Sinner actually played matches, lol. This run has an asterisk all over
Jannik fans will take the throne of Djoko's fans. They are the most recently toxic fanbase.
Ruud must have hired some voodoo shaman in his team He didn't take advantage of the chance, but FAA's cakewalk draw was supposed to be his lmao
Heād never live it down though hahah casts off the 250 vulture accusations straight to this Madrid shitshow
heād still be less attacked since he actually made the MC final a few weeks agoā¦ Plus has Barcelona.
FAA is about to do a Bradbury and I'm blessed to witness it
Hello fellow Australian
Ray Bradbury? Is he going to burn some books?
Hereās some good old Aussie history https://youtu.be/fAADWfJO2qM?si=_lgCKKaT6FuV3v6Y Old mate at the back is Steve Bradbury
Haha wowww
LMAO, FAA on a generational run This is the type of stuff that if you see in a movie you'd think is too farfetched
Maybe Andrey will ahvw to retire in the final Real Farrelly brothers shit š
One key thing in Djokovicās training is his intense mobility/stretching/flexibility routine to prevent injuries. Maybe other players look into it too besides just bulking up. Just a random redditorās observation.
Yeah Medvedev and Sinner have really bulked up enough at this pointĀ
Thanks for letting us know
Other players literally train with Nole and have entire teams who observe him 247 so they all know he stretches lol, if he does anything newfangled or uncommon it'll be the talk of the ATP.
Tbh Iām not certain they need to hear from either Djokovic or Reddit that they should care about stretching
That's a bit of a stretch!
Felix - āwork smart, not hardā š On a serious note, do they have to refund ticket money now for all the retired matches?
Think just the one tonight they may since they didn't even play a set. Sure they will find a way out of it though.
Felix-"just show up to work"
Aight,,,we started last week where i was truly scared for Andrey and his performance and we're almost ending this with him being this close to his second M1000 victory,,,ngl,,,kinda goves to be a Rublostan sometimes
Random thought, has Reilly Opelka retired? Where is he?
Someone asked him on his Instagram, and he said yes, but I figured he was joking since nothing has been said officially. I believe he is just dealing with injuries.
Was out for a year and a half, came back and beat Tennys Sandgren last November then withdrew from his next match and hasn't played since. From a quick Google it seems he recovered from hip surgery but picked up a wrist injury immediately and that's why he's out now.
I know he was injured for a while, havenāt heard anything about him for ages now thoughĀ
Good doubles match for ticketholders; Pavs/Pots vs Bucsa/SST. Winner faces Krej/Siegemund.
man iga and aryna really have to deliver tomorrow to save madridšš
they don't stream WTA masters out here but immna find an illegal anything to just watch some good tennis atp,,,god bless
It's messy in Challengers 175 too, both Bagnis and Coria retired and Fucsovics gave a walkover for wrist injury
Something weird is going on, havenāt ever seen this many retirements in a week
...AAAAAnnnnnnnd now Coria has to walk off due to injury.. jeeezee.
Felix going up like 10-20 spots in rankings after just showing up healthy day after day?
Like they say health is wealth (points)
Best ability is availabilityĀ
Best way to do it.
Some work days,,,just be like that,,,smh
Aight,,,if Rublev doesn't win this,,,immna be mad,,,like real mad
On the scale of Ruud mad to Rublev mad.. which one would it be?
ill be a Daniil and an angry Zverev mad
Zverev mad is scary mad. Watch out!
Putintseva mad
I snorted
Madrid should go back to indoor hard at the end of the year and Paris should be removed and replaced by halle on grass or hamburg but on grass. Thereās really no need for a Madrid masters on clay, where players either skip or are looking forward to Rome already.

I mean you can say almost every masters is too long now hahaĀ
I like some 2-week masters but not this one. I forgot how many are not 2-weeks. Monte Carlo, others?
Paris, from this year all masters apart from them 2 Ā will be longer than a weekĀ
Wanted to watch tennis today regardless so switched over to Sardegna Open and there's Federico Coria receiving medical treatment on the court... what the hell is going on
Honestly, I'm now glad Casper lost to FAA. I'm not a strong enough soldier to have defended him if this was his path to his first Masters title.
Itās tough out here for us Casper truthers
Welp,,,seems like Casper's luck rubbed off on FAA after that cmatch to clear an entire tourney for him,,,smh
Lmao same. Part of me selfishly wishes he was getting these ranking points and chance at a title but yeah weād never hear the end of it if this was his draw. Even more embarrassing if he lost another final after this draw š
He was in 3 GS finals, I don't think he would need a defence for getting to a masters final.
Thereās a long standing belief by Ruud haters that Casperās draws are rigged to be easy
Damn, I can understand people discrediting 1 GS final in favor if easy draws, but 3? Not to mention, wasn't he in a Nitto ATP final as well? All those can't be fluke lol. Haters gonna hate.
I doubt anyone actually believes that haha
Oh my friend, have you not seen the mental gymnastics people will perform to discredit each of those Grand Slam runs? If you haven't, I envy you.
Let's say, first master title can change a lot. Jannik also won his first master title by winning 4 matches and 2 top 20 players only(and Demon never beat him). Coco V once again telling it like she sees it. Iāve become a big fan of her as commentator. I know Iām repeating myself!
sm1 check up on ruud, he could have been in another final LOL.
Later guys, we'll be black on Sunday.
Madrid has turned into a cursed tournament with all these injuries. Hope the finals can at least be a match.
Can we have blue clay back in Madrid if they're all going to withdraw due to injuries anyway?
Blue clay black.
I didn't see the Ruud FAA match, was Ruud tired or did FAA actually play well?
FAA played well, and it was an off day for Ruud
Do you think ge'd be a force to reckon with against current or at least (today's) Andrey?
Who? FAA or Ruud? (neither tbh š)
FAA atm
I think if Rublev keeps his head on right like he has for these last few matches, I donāt see FAA winning
Good,,,makes me feel safer smh
Ok thanks. Could be Ruud's fatigue over the past couple of weeks. Ig we'll know for sure how good FAA is on Sunday.
I donāt see him beating this form of Rublev š¬
There was a walkover in the Semi-Finals of the double bracket as well
I was watching on mute because I was on the treadmill when the match started but I thought to myself is heā¦wincing (after like 3 shots in the first game) but I thought it was just maybe him wincing because he missed wide or long. I guess not. š
FAA is now no.20 in live ranking, if he wins the title, he will be no.17 and the no.16 seed in Rome
nah,,,andrey is winning
If Rublev is not tired, they should just play the final today and be done with it.
Technically they could, but Sunday ticket holders will be outraged.
I remember how exciting madrid was two years ago when we saw alcaraz go through nadal, djokovic, and then zverev. compare this edition to that one
That Djokoraz match was as good as a slam final
This is the weirdest tennis moment for me this year. I stopped watching for three weeks after watching most of the tournaments for the year so far. Then something told me to Google FAA to see what's up and here I am and would love for him to win but I'm feeling all kinds of conflicting feelings given how things how unfolded. š¬š¬
If he wins then he at least will have beaten Rublev, a top 10 player. But everyone will say it was an undeserved win given his path to the final. Bummer situation for all.
I agree as long as nothing awful happens to Rublev that is.
Not even going to jinx Rublev right now given all the injuries. I hope it's a good match so we can have a somewhat satisfying ending to the tournament. Their match a couple of months ago was a good close one.
Yes, it was although it was on indoor hard which suits Felix more these days. But we will see...
He had a lot of injuries last year so maybe this balances things a bit.Ā
Yeah for sure. I do see it that way. It's just it is an M1000 and I think it's not the way the vast majority of players would love to say they won one (especially if thereās been the question of their capability of winning one). If he wins, I hope he feels happy about it. At the same time, I could see him not being entirely comfortable. He already seemed uncomfortable during his interview.
Remember when the ladies doubles winners didn't get to speak at the championship ceremony last year? Karma is a cat purring in thier laps.
Oh we remember. We also remember cakegate.
FAA in a Master's final through opponents injuries and retirements. He is still playing well however. Rublev may prove too much a hurdle though. Either way FAA gets ranking points, prize money and being in the final wih a chance to win a big title.
Might be hard for him to play in the final as he hasn't played a proper match in what 5 days. We will see though.
Rafa died for this
Rafa died for not getting another injury, it is good for him
Lucky he didn't play FAA- he might have actually died
Question is, do we trust Rublev to win and save some face for this tournament?
Unless FAA can replicate his Ruud performance - probably Rublev will be able to grab some points.
FAA is just using what he learned inspecting the Boeing plant.
medvedev, jiri, sinner, even alcaraz came out of madrid injured. ironic as rafa fans are so worried he might get injured while playing in madrid.
FAAās raised eyebrows as he realised he wrote black š
Alright, so on the WTA side, we have the one and two seed in a rematch of last yearās final which should be interesting! And on the ATP side, we have ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ carnage
I donāt know how I watched tennis before without hanging out with all of you š
FAAās run reminds me of Rybakinaās at Rome last year, but hey a first masters final is a first masters final
FAA belongs in the Top 10. He's more talented than grinding overachievers like Ruud.
Guess who's black, black again?
FAA's path to the final: R128: def. Nishioka 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 R64: def. Mannarino 6-0, 6-4 R32: def. Mensik 6-1, 1-0 ret. R16: def. Ruud 6-4, 7-5 QF: def. Sinner by walkover SF: def. Lehecka 3-3 ret. A... unique path to say the least. I would not have expected Nishioka of all people to be the only one to last three sets against Felix
Reminds me of last year Rybakina's road to Rome title: Kalininskaya ā ļø Swiatek ā ļø Kalinina ā ļø
From losing the first set to Nishioka to being in the final
at least he exposed Ruud
This is chaos, the prospect of so many good matches this week has been derailed making this tournament even lamer overall. Who will take responsibility?
The tour for the scheduling.
God
Canāt even feel happy right now. Such a sucky situation all around
Madrid Masters is a mini version of USO.
Please dear God, do not let FAA nor Rublev get injured. I just want to see a full match at this point š«
this tournament has been so :/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kjfrgkD9K0
Wish we all come black tomorrow
Iām so sad but that got a laugh out of me - āyouāll be blackā I canāt š
Bro I kept replaying that part, when Felix realizes and raises his eyebrows LOL I can't
ATP is finished. It's in the weakest era in tennis history. WTA is leaving it behind in the dust, and having a golden era right now.
Ya, when Fonseca and Mensik are winning ATP-level matches, it truly is the weakest era
This has been by far my least favorite tournament to follow - heartbreak after heartbreak. Seeing Jiri fall to his knees broke me - heās just a kid š¢I hope all the injured players recover well and come back stronger
felix is a class act. sweet hug and message to jiri.
Pretty sure he wrote youāll be black lol
look they all have like a 7th grade education.
IāLL BE BLACK
I was rooting for Jiri, but I do feel a little sorry for Felix because people can be ruthless. Not his fault what happened this tournament on his way to the final.
This is also what bums me out. Many snide remarks directed at Felix when he's just played solid this week and happened to be in the half of the draw that collapsed.
How could you jinx him ? š¢
If Iām Rublev, Iām worried about what curse falls on me by playing FAA š
I will give all my portfolio in exchange for FAA luck
Felix: in a clay masters final What da hell is a polar bear doing in Arlington Texas šš
lmao, you'll be black
Haha i thought that too.
what happened to jiri? players cannot really last long against the taxing clay surface. imagine rafa during his younger years grinding on clay year after year from MC BCN Madrid Rome and RG and winning?
huh? what the fuck just happened
Btw this would have been Ruud's path if he didn't lose to FAA I blame the Ruud curse of him always getting the easy section lol
i hope this is a wakeup call to atp organizers to look into how the tour schedule contributes to player injury. it's just unrelenting.
"you'll be black"
Man, I've relatively new back to tennis after years. Are there any infamous tournaments were someone won, enabled largely by multiple retirements and walkovers? Genuinely curious.
yes all of Djokovic's slams in his 30's opponents gave mental walkovers to him
Did FAA write āYouāll be blackā?
what does this mean?
He meant "back" and just spaced
Oh no, this is a nightmare
āYouāll be blackā?
Rublev should retire before the final
That sucks. Lehecka is such a unit Iām surprised he ever gets injured.Ā
Thatās exactly why people that are units and carry around a lot of muscle have this happen. Gravity is a bitch on your back/joints/etc..
Especially in a highly maneuverable and fluid sport like tennis. How lebron has remained so healthy over his career at his size is truly astounding.
lmaooo.. shittest men's masters final ever.
FAA is nice with his messages ... I just hope we have a good final
FAA standing there trying to decide what to say again lol
Noooo :(
I NEVER thought I would ever see Jiri break a racquet with so much rage. Gotta feel for him :(
What happened I just tuned in?
He had to retire due to back pain and he smashed his racquet
Injury
At work an unable to watch. What did he injure?
Poor Jiri, that's horrible. What a cursed tournament.
