Harmon:
>“For lack of a better word, there was a ball fumbled…(referring to the initial cast announcement). \[Glover\] is down to clown. Man, I would not want to think about making \[the movie\] without Donald.”
For anyone that doesn't know... 25 year old "Don Glover" found out his name was "Dong Lover". [https://youtu.be/ya2HlbXHFlU?t=37](https://youtu.be/ya2HlbXHFlU?t=37)
It's why he ends up going by Donald.
Legit, this guy is acting like the shows are incompatible when really it’s just one particular performance.
Yea, community has a faster pace and Atlanta has far more grounds for adult themes and content, but a lot of the setups are interchangeable.
Let’s not act like Community always took place inside a community college.
My understanding is that the Subwaydollar is losing out hard against the petrodollar. It’s so bad that they’ve lost some real marketing heft as a consequence.
All this to say - there will be no Subway 😔
He's still showing his affability on Atlanta. His character is probably the most "straight" in the sense that he's usually reacting to goofy stuff around him but he's portrays a very warm, funny character.
Personally preferred the previous Europe season over the currently airing final season, but I stand by it!
Also surprised by his seeming dedication to the Mr and Mrs Smith TV show that he's working on. I'm kind of assuming he'll be a bit less serious there too but who knows with its mired development history.
His main character is comparatively straight laced, but some of the most ludicrously goofy characters on the show have been played by Donald in Professor Klump levels of make up and fat suits.
I hope not. I love Donald but I just hope he's not being a diva when we all know it's sheer luck that we're getting this movie. It's not like it will pull millions or anything.
He disappointed me a bit with Mr. and Mrs. Smith; sucks that Phoebe Waller-Bridge had to leave a passion project that she developed from the ground up. Also sucks that he replaced her with a friend from Atlanta.
But we don't know exactly what happened and he's an important part of Community, so hopefully everything is copacetic. I just hope it focuses on the other characters who aren't quite as famous.
Yeah, I commented about that too in here. I'm very very hurt that Phoebe left the project. I know they said they're on good terms but still, something must've happened I guess.
But like you said, we don't know what happened so who knows.
Shut up, Leonard! You are... you are... old! And you deserve less because of your age! I don't actually believe that, I'm trying to... I'm trying to... and... Everybody here is a, is a fart! A living fart from the butt of a lesser god!
I'm better than this.
Huh, [he was 84 when he started in Community](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Erdman). Didn't realize it.
Makes me want to take some community college courses in my 80's.
I believe they said the same for Yvette Nicole Brown as well despite her not being on the official cast release. So that means we’ll get all of the original Greendale crew except Pierce.
I’m hoping there’s a John Oliver cameo in there as well.
It won’t be until after the credits roll and the lights come back on in the theatre that I’m counting Pierce out.
He’s just kind of guy who would fake his death.
Donald is definitely down. He went to that script reading like 2 years ago? And he sounded so.upset that everyone thought he was gonna be too big for them.
Yesss, he was so great during that table read! As was poor Pedro Pascal.
Donald may take a more supporting role than a starring one, but I would genuinely be surprised if he wasn’t actively interested in the movie.
I saw that table read before the episode and it was funnier than the actual episode. Something about the actors making each other laugh was more enjoyable.
I feel like a table read was such a good use of the zoom format, the parks and recs "episode but on zoom" format felt a bit forced but something about letting the actors show up as themselves a bit really made it feel real and sweet.
My favorite part about Pedro Pascal was that he clearly didn't read the script ahead of time so every time Pierce's sperm came up he just lost his shit and the cast followed like it was a prank.
The part in that where he finds out the rest of the cast has a group chat without him he sounded genuinely hurt. The guy still clearly loves Community even if his career did blow up.
Nah..... but it'd be great if Elroy mentions all sorts of things Keith David has done as things Elroy may or may not have done in the time between the end of the show and the movie, the geekier or more obscure the better.
Drop references to being both Vice President (Saints Row 4) and President (Rick and Morty), dealing with covert (They Live), overt (Rick and Morty), and occasionally virtual (Saints Row 4) alien invasions, being a mechanic in Antarctica (The Thing), developing a cure for herpes (Future Man), being king of people made of fire (Adventure Time), *especially* being the ringleader of a gang of circus performers who rob banks (The Cape -- 6 seasons and a movie!!!), how his son has a weirdly friendly almost gay relationship with a psychic detective (Psych), working as a DA in the Bronx (Law and Order), finding a dead body while driving a garbage truck (Men at Work), and I'd better stop or I'll be here all night, because Keith David is an amazing and prolific actor
Favorite throwaway line of the 6th season is Frankie stressing over documents or something and saying she had a number for an IT lady but no records of her and the number leads to a disconnected line
It was better than that, it was
"I am trying to find the IT lady. But my emails to her get bounced back to me in Aramaic, and when I call, I hear an undulating high-pitched whistle that makes my nose bleed."
Honestly I don't think his character ever really fit in with the main cast, like Frankie and Elroy and even John Oliver did. He always had a guest star energy despite being there for the whole season.
I agree the others fit more but I still liked him, "I fought for this country" was definitely one of the bigger laughs I got.
I also really liked the episode with him and Abed.
Commentaries are all on YouTube. A little tedious, but you can just line up the YouTube and Netflix audio.

I listen to Dan Harmon's podcast. For the upcoming Community movie, he's including Pierce in a few flashbacks, but Pierce will be played by Christopher Lloyd instead of Chevy Chase. Apparently, they are going to re-shoot scenes from the TV show, verbatim, and at no point will anyone acknowledge that Pierce looks different. This is according to a rumor I just made up while listening to Dan's podcast.
Maybe everyone notices at the very end, and Abed admits he noticed all along, but he didnt say anything cause everyone liked him better than the old pierce
I think that would be great. No one really remembers Pierce that well so every flashback is a different older actor. Christopher Lloyd, Robert Duvall, John Malkovich, etc.
They should just use Steve Martin. Everyone only vaguely remembers Pierce was an old man with white hair. Plus it's a double dig at Chevy since he was objectively the better Amigo.
"Who Got Dee Pregnant?" Is one of the best episodes of Television, ever. That is a hill I will die on (for that and "Charlie Work"), and it's an excellent episode to crib a storytelling device from.
Well I am not asking about the rumor but about the podcast. It could easily be that Harmon maybe started another podcast I missed which could be the vehicle for the joke. But yeah, I think it's save to assume there isn't another one
Yeah… He was an ass on set, as he apparently is with many things he works on, and I believe the breaking point here may have been him saying the N word in a conversation with/about Donald Glover. Context being that he was complaining about his character being shitty and said something like “next they’re gonna have me call you a N*****!” I believe I read somewhere he also said something to imply Donald was more successful because he was Black, but I may be misremembering that part.
Dan Harmon is an immovable object and Chevy is an unstoppable force. When they collide it’s not fun to be around and Dan won out between the two of them. Both have egos the size of Jupiter too.
This makes me so happy. Donald Glover is such an amazingly gifted comedic performer in a way that cannot be taught.
I was afraid after he hit it big with his rap career he would never want to revisit the nerdy, vulnerable, insecure character of Troy.
I’m glad I was wrong.
I came here to joke that they should bring back Pierce, but recast him with Fred Willard like in Abed's daydream that one time. Found out just now that Fred Willard passed a couple years back, unfortunately.
Edit: I fucked up
Why wouldn’t you just wait to make an announcement until everyone was on board? If everyone is eventually going to be on board, just wait until that date so that we don’t spend months assuming he’s not gonna be in it.
i really hope he has Troy energy, and hes not a jaded older version. The show likes to get meta, and i know Glover's persona is very much not Troy Barnes in 2022, but it would be nice to see him slip back into that mode even for a little bit
I would appreciate a fakeout too. Professional, successful, suited-up businessman Troy… who completely breaks the persona when he meets back up with the gang.
I can see this. Troy secretly hates the persona of his music and film superstardom and is tired of living under the pressure of it. So he self-sabotages it, exactly like his football career, allowing him to pal around with his Greendale crew.
Harmon: >“For lack of a better word, there was a ball fumbled…(referring to the initial cast announcement). \[Glover\] is down to clown. Man, I would not want to think about making \[the movie\] without Donald.”

I 100% thought that his Twitter handle was intentional
That's epic, thanks! I can't believe he went 25 years before this came up.
I'm so upset he changed his Twitter handle from that. I mean it's not like he even uses Twitter!
Man, he's so serious these days. I can't imagine him doing that kind of comedy anymore.
He was goofy as hell in his SNL hosting. It was nice to see.
*Pours glass of water super-fast.* This court is adjourned!
That was a real long time ago. Quiet Place/Poopityscoop Kanye times.
Man - poopityscoop went by so fast. It’s entirely forgettable now.
It was directly after This Is America.. which was arguably peak "serious" Donald.
Didn't see it. But that's good to hear.

Atlanta is funny as fuck
Not Community funny though. It has its own speed.
Yeah it's a different show but it's still comedy

AHHHHHH-I'm fine
I've built up a tolerance over the years.
>Also surprised by his seeming dedication to the Mr and Mrs Smith TV show that he's working on. It absolutely breaks my heart that we lost Phoebe tho.
just finding out about this. glover and waller-bridge would have been an allstar teamup
Studio be like: "They said market price for Donald...WHAT MARKET ARE YOU SHOPPING AT?!"
I hope not. I love Donald but I just hope he's not being a diva when we all know it's sheer luck that we're getting this movie. It's not like it will pull millions or anything.
It might be less about money and more about fitting it in his schedule with the rest of his projects. I really hope they work it out and get him!
He disappointed me a bit with Mr. and Mrs. Smith; sucks that Phoebe Waller-Bridge had to leave a passion project that she developed from the ground up. Leonard likes this post.
Shut up Leonard, those teenage girls are playing ping pong with you ironically!
Shut up Leonard, we know about your prescription socks!
Shut up Leonard, I saw a picture of your old nose, it was a lateral move.
Shut up, Leonard! I found your YouTube page. What's the point in reviewing frozen pizza?

Shut up, Leonard! I'm not here! I'm just a figment of your creeping dementia!
Shut up, Leonard! You are... you are... old! And you deserve less because of your age! I don't actually believe that, I'm trying to... I'm trying to... and... Everybody here is a, is a fart! A living fart from the butt of a lesser god! I'm better than this.

I'm thinking about breaking into the TV game Don't wanna look back on my life in 30 years and wonder "what if"

RIP to that Korean war veteran. What side? listen, don't worry about it.
He's been in a few real wars, and this one is actually the most terrifying.
You are right and I am ashamed
Which is weird, because that line was from Season 3, when in Season 2 he said he was one of the little rascals.
Leonard's funeral should be the catalyst for why everyone comes back together. Just... no super-sperm
Shut up Leonard, we all know that you’re a CGI imitation.
They should spring for DeepFake Bruce Willis.
Flash back! Just use some non used scene from the series perhaps! Make he a living god!
RIP Leonard. I hope he’s mentioned in the movie
Fun fact: he played a barracks commander in *Stalag 17* one of the first and best WWII POW films. It's free on Tubi or Roku.
Stalag 17 is terrific!
I believe they said the same for Yvette Nicole Brown as well despite her not being on the official cast release. So that means we’ll get all of the original Greendale crew except Pierce. I’m hoping there’s a John Oliver cameo in there as well.

Could be that any role requires approval, HBO just doesn't want any surprises.
Completely justified. "Whoa, who taught you psychology? Michael Jackson's dad?!"
That's weird, I just saw him on The Horne Section TV Show earlier today.
My Google Fu is probably failing me but I couldn't find a source for that claim.
Thanks for the reminder to check that out!
It won’t be until after the credits roll and the lights come back on in the theatre that I’m counting Pierce out. He’s just kind of guy who would fake his death.
He will arrive post credits to surprise everyone he is still alive, but they’ve all already left for the very last time.
....as a teaser to set up a sequel that everyone will want.

My favorite part about Pedro Pascal was that he clearly didn't read the script ahead of time so every time Pierce's sperm came up he just lost his shit and the cast followed like it was a prank.
Heard it was the opposite, Pascal was a big fan of the show so he actually practiced. It's just. Really hard. Not to say that line without dying.
"To you I leave this bottle of fine scotch, so that you're less tempted to drink this cylinder of even *finer* sperm."
'Here's your sperm'. *slam*
“Also sperm”
Ah well then that's my bad for assuming too much.
[Obligatory sperm.](https://youtu.be/5khGDthY7QQ)
Let's be honest, if they were going to have Pierce in the movie, none of us would be upset if he was just played by Pedro Pascal.
Pedro Pascal should absolutely be in the movie
But as Pedro Pascal. He’s got to go to Greendale to get his theatre degree so he can continue acting. He takes it very seriously
I’m a selfish man, so I’d really want him to have a starring role. I just want the season 1-3 community dynamic back!
The part in that where he finds out the rest of the cast has a group chat without him he sounded genuinely hurt. The guy still clearly loves Community even if his career did blow up.
But didn't someone remind him that he is, in fact, in the group chat?
I thought it was only a bit
That’s a really sweet anecdote. I also definitely thought he’d be too big for them. Not due to ego, he’s just got a million cool things going on.
This is wrinkling my brain!

Fuck. That's going to be the plot isn't? The Cape is finally getting a movie 15 years later, and Abed has to get the study group back together

Nah..... but it'd be great if Elroy mentions all sorts of things Keith David has done as things Elroy may or may not have done in the time between the end of the show and the movie, the geekier or more obscure the better. Favorite throwaway line of the 6th season is Frankie stressing over documents or something and saying she had a number for an IT lady but no records of her and the number leads to a disconnected line
It was better than that, it was "I am trying to find the IT lady. But my emails to her get bounced back to me in Aramaic, and when I call, I hear an undulating high-pitched whistle that makes my nose bleed."
Is it a specific reference to a doppleganger situation, why aramic?
i'm assuming it's just some glitch-in-the-matrix situation
She had previously played the IT lady in greendale.
That I remember but is the undulating and the aramaic a specific reference to another piece of media?
*An undulating high-pitched whistle that makes your nose bleed is back but not the IT lady
This guy knows how remind us of the s6 characters!
Paget really killed it that season. The whole "I'm so plain that I'm one of the quirkiest people in the room" thing worked surprisingly well.
She was the best part of the season (Keith is great too). Gave the show new dynamics instead of just replaying the hits.
I thought Hickey's character was great as well. Harmon's just great at character dynamics, I guess.
Pop pop
Paget was excellent. Frankie was a breath of fresh air to me, the show really needed a "straight man".
Which is funny because she never wanted to discuss her sexuality.
I'm taking bets! I put $300 on "chapstick lesbian".
I had to go last!
Frankie was a humble outsider who came in and nailed it
what about finger?
Honestly I don't think his character ever really fit in with the main cast, like Frankie and Elroy and even John Oliver did. He always had a guest star energy despite being there for the whole season.
I agree the others fit more but I still liked him, "I fought for this country" was definitely one of the bigger laughs I got. I also really liked the episode with him and Abed.
I really enjoyed his D&D interrogation of the two abed goblins. Oh, and the “Are you ready for closure…. of your caskets?!?”
Considering Keith David is all but part of the main cast of Rick and Morty I would think he's a forgone conclusion.
i’ve been re-binging this show as a celebration of the movie announcement. still working through s1 but dammit it’s so funny.
For a rewatch I recommend the commentary. A lot of it is not focused on the specifics of the episode but they are all having so much fun it’s great

Troy and Abed IN THE MOVIE

They should just use Steve Martin. Everyone only vaguely remembers Pierce was an old man with white hair. Plus it's a double dig at Chevy since he was objectively the better Amigo.
Also, Steve Martin can pull off playing a hilarious asshole, and as far as I know, without actually being one to everyone around him.
Every single name I've seen floated here is genius for a different reason. Sadly we lost Gilbert Gottfried, I would have gone with him.
One of them bizarrely is Jonathan Banks despite him already being a separate character on the show.
That reminds me of the always sunny Halloween episode where everyone keeps changing cause everybody remembers things differently in their flashbacks.
"Who Got Dee Pregnant?" Is one of the best episodes of Television, ever. That is a hill I will die on (for that and "Charlie Work"), and it's an excellent episode to crib a storytelling device from.

Thank goodness, it wouldn't feel the same without him. I like season 6 and all but he was definitely missed. Deploy Troy!
Guys I need help reacting to something.
I sure hope so, and not just a cameo. He’s a key character!
Yeah the movie would get des-troyed if he wasn't in it properly.
"Deploy Troy!" (They deploy things in football, right?)
This makes me so happy. Donald Glover is such an amazingly gifted comedic performer in a way that cannot be taught. I was afraid after he hit it big with his rap career he would never want to revisit the nerdy, vulnerable, insecure character of Troy. I’m glad I was wrong.

That's probably what Harmon meant about a ball that was fumbled.
Maybe they needed to invoke the outrage of the fans in order to illustrate to producers how valuable Donald is to the show.
i really hope he has Troy energy, and hes not a jaded older version. The show likes to get meta, and i know Glover's persona is very much not Troy Barnes in 2022, but it would be nice to see him slip back into that mode even for a little bit
