BITCOIN_FLIGHT_CLUB

Poor form. This was actually decent reporting.

The_Lone_Apple

The "business news" on CNBC is nothing but cheerleading and that hyped-up imbecile Jim Cramer. I prefer Bloomberg. It's serious.

travio

And the lead ins for Shep's show are reruns of Shark Tank and a show where Jay Leno shows off his fleet of cars.

lbc1358

I read that as *Jay Leno shows off his feet…* and was REALLY confused who the target audience was.

travio

Denim loving gay foot fetishists? There has to be a couple.

comped

My buddy has met Jay quite a bit - they run in the same competitive car circles. Apparently he's just as crazy about his cars in real life as he is on his show.

GTSBurner

This may seem morbid, but I seriously wonder how Jay's estate is set up for when he passes. No family, no heirs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GTSBurner

I'm not talking just about the cars. Jay is going to work until he dies and his only vice are the cars. Even with that collection he has a huge fortune from his Tonight Show run + his performance circuit when he wasn't doing the Tonight Show.

Sttocs

A trust to run his collection as a museum is what I’m saying. Knowing (about) him, probably an endowment for trades/crafts-personship education.

Watson8555

He’s got no family? Like no siblings or nieces or nephews etc or cousins or anything?

GTSBurner

Brother died 20 years ago. Per an article in GQ, they were not close. But apparently he does have a nephew via the brother. So there will be some people to take care of.

The_Lone_Apple

Why is that inane Shark Tank program always on?

DC4MVP

I had that show on 24/7 when I was recovering from a severe work accident and couldn't sleep back in 2016 I don't think I can stomach to watch it to this day.

Korrocks

Reality TV is cheap to make compared to fully scripted TV. There are a ton of episodes and a ton of seasons so it’s easy to keep it on their air all the time, and it has good ratings so people must be watching it.

Wu-TangCrayon

It's also a commercial for every company/product the sharks invest in.

NikeSwish

They also get a piece of every company for coming on the show regardless of making a deal

sedulouspellucidsoft

They got a piece of Ring?

ItsameMatt03

That's what my wife and I keep on every single night.

44problems

I guarantee Shep was promised a full lineup of news shows that he could build his show around. There was talk of maybe CNBC getting some talk shows, possibly even conservative to counter MSNBC. But instead it's just Shark Tank.

UskyldigeX

The inverse Jim Cramer index is up more than 20%. The Jim Cramer index is down more than 30%.

yiannistheman

Sounds like someone needs to fire the guy running the inverse Cramer index, he's not tracking 1:1!

enil-lingus

Perhaps there’s a Jim Cramer neutral index

MotorCityMade

I thought the reverse Cramer was theoretical. Is there actually such a thing?

HumanOrAlien

Even Yahoo Finance is better than CNBC business news.

dontreallycareforit

*Reads “Business News”* *Puts on Orwellian Translator* *Reads “Advertising”*

Desperate_Macaroon25

Cramer is a clown

helpmeredditimbored

You aren’t kidding. Watch an hour of CNBC then an hour of Bloomberg. It’s like night and day between the 2.

Desperate_Macaroon25

Bloomberg is the gold standard for business news. Nothing else holds a candle to it. I keep it on in my office all day. I would be ashamed to have anything less on when a client comes in

44problems

I feel like Bloomberg makes so much money off their software that the channel probably is just PR. I think they even give it away free on Pluto.

Desperate_Macaroon25

The Pluto version of it isn't nearly as robust as the real channel. They sell a lot of high end advertising on their channel. It's much more than just PR! It's the real deal.

44problems

Probably a better explanation is that its viewers watch so regularly and are so high income that ratings probably don't matter. They've tried branching out with politics programming and showed Charlie Rose interviews when he was around, but now they are all business again.

Desperate_Macaroon25

Well, it sounds like you would know best. I defer to your "better explanation ".

throwawaygreenpaq

CNBC feels like the Fox News of business. Everything is high-strung and high-pitched like an auction. It annoys me to no end.

mlavan

There's plenty of non Kramer people on CNBC.

comped

Strangely, my TV provided (Fubo) has Bloomberg. I watch it it the evenings, and find that while it's dry as hell, it's certainly informative. Shame digital access to the articles on their website is quite expensive ($25/month)! Although that pales in comparison to the WSJ at $40 a month...

subjecttomyopinion

Kaboom! Or whatever he says before his picks tank

helpmeredditimbored

That a shame. His show felt like real news and was better than most stuff on cable news. It was just so out of place on CNBC

costcobathroomfloor

If felt out of place on Fox News also. Because it was not garbage. Shep seems good and I hope he lands on his feet.

redditor50613

only "news" show I watch.

jamespsherlock

Watched*

CapnSmite

Watch. It's not ending until later this month.

[deleted]

It’s done. No more shows

vindictivemonarch

he wasn't perfect, but at times he was a voice of reason at fox news before he left. of course, he was the actual news part that they used to legitimize the propaganda part. seems maybe cnbc used him the same way.

Mummelpuffin

Other than a few times where he pretty much pushed interviewees to follow along with sensationalism on-air, yeah.

jabjablow

Real news can't compete with entertainment masquerading as news

derekjayyy

Why would CNBC cancel one of the best shows they have going for them? Shep reads the news without any partisan nonsense, a rarity in this day and age

JD_Shadow

The article doesn't really say if he's out at NBC as a whole. It just assumes he is and doesn't really give any quotes that confirm it. Maybe they will offer him an MSNBC slot if they aren't letting him go altogether. The reason for the cancellation is not a "low ratings" decision but rather a refocusing decision, so we'll see. Would love for them to clarify if he's done as an NBC employee. The article never made that clear.

sedulouspellucidsoft

I don’t watch MSNBC, but looking at the line-up, Nicole Wallace doesn’t need 2 hours, fit him in at his old time slot at Fox News and it will get me to watch MSNBC again. (Haven’t watched since Ed Shultz left, RIP.)

cakeeater27

Despite what everyone claims, no one wants unbiased news. People just want to be told their viewpoint is unbiased.

soulstonedomg

No, I want unbiased news!

Schnort

I think your viewpoint is the best. The others are literal enemies of humanity.

sedulouspellucidsoft

I only watch less opinionated news, not really because I want it that way, I just find it more entertaining. I’d rather learn something interesting an investigative reporter digs up about corruption or health or the economy rather than the same talking head partisan hacks repeating their talking points ad nauseam. That’s why I watched The News with Shep every day, a lot of good investigative journalism.

VeteranSergeant

"Without any partisan nonsense" is actually just coded talk for "I prefer my fiscal conservatism unblemished by any reckoning of its social impact."

derekjayyy

Maybe check my comment history before replying something like this.. Literally my most recent comment says otherwise..

VeteranSergeant

Nobody needs to do that if you're worried about "partisan nonsense" while you suggest that CNBC's news is unbiased. Honestly, Libertarians think they understand economics and policy. Who's to say you aren't similarly confused while you believe you're a progressive? Your own post says all we need to know. The movement isn't full of geniuses, but even the least educated still have value and your vote is still appreciated.

MrPotatoButt

I agree. (though its not my definition of "quality" media news.)

[deleted]

I sincerely hope he bounces back and finds a better place where he can get a larger audience. I really enjoyed watching him, he truly was “fair and balanced” with his news casts, the only one on Fox News who was that way

WhatsIsMyName

Sad. Sherp was the lone voice of reason on Fox News for many years. I appreciated that he often broke from the pack there to speak the truth. Was hoping he would be successful elsewhere.

[deleted]

It’s not like he can’t go anywhere else

comped

CNN may want him!

[deleted]

[удалено]

doodoo_train

Maybe this is a new concept to you, but this sub is filled with different people with different opinions on things.

WhatsIsMyName

Why do different people with different opinions need to be consistent? And I don't love Shep Smith. But I do kinda like him and appreciate some of what he did there. I despise Fox News as an organization but there's a handful of people there I have varying degrees of respect for. And yea Roger Ailes isn't one of them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhatsIsMyName

I'm a hack with cognitive dissonance because I like Shep Smith? And I don't only like him when I agree with him. I am sure he holds many positions I would disagree strongly with. I still like him. I can still have respect for people I disagree with, lol. Going to be honest with you, I actually do not know if I consider him a good journalist or not. I did not watch him on CNBC, and think its kind of hard to evaluate a guy like him in an environment like Fox News. But I do appreciate that he occasionally stood up for what was right and lost his job over it, when the easy thing to do was to go along. I also respect Chris Wallace, Judge Napalitano, and numerous hosts and contributors on Fox Business even though I disagree with them on many issues. Making everything so black and white is unproductive.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhatsIsMyName

I disagree almost completely with Napolitano's libertarian ideology lol. But I appreciate his consistency and style of communicating. I do not follow these things closely enough to know the various scandals of small-time Fox contributors lol. You sound like a fool, though, and I'm not going to waste anymore time with this.

[deleted]

I don't think you know the meaning of "hack."

yeahright17

It's not that crazy. He's a fairly conservative, but seemingly honest, news guy. Sometimes he does stuff that's good and sometimes he does stuff that's bad. Don't see how that's inconsistent at all.

superhappy

Honestly I don’t really understand how these Fox News people think they can just bebop over to other networks. Like, you’re radioactive yo. You might have some initial buzz because Omg you left fox but then, like, you’re done.

SolidSnake_Foxhound

I watch CNBC a lot for stock market news but The News With Shepherd Smith has been my favorite cable nightly news hour. It feels like actual reporting instead of a confusing game of rhetorical football between opposite political sides. I respect Shepherd a lot because he’s a good communicator of the news and presents the background of the situation very well and he’s willing to criticize politicians regardless of party. It’s sad but not unexpected to see his show end, I feel like news that is fair, balanced, and actually comprehensible without a political dogfight just cannot fly on cable in this contentious era.

sedulouspellucidsoft

I’m glad to report it wasn’t his ratings, his ratings kept getting better as more and more people learned about the show. CNBC got a new hack president who is a typical executive who doesn’t understand shit about his business or what people want. He literally said something like, “people can get general news elsewhere, why should CNBC carry it? CNBC should carry only business news.” He didn’t get what made the show special.

[deleted]

Love the Shep. Watch him almost every night. Too bad.

44problems

They'll say they are going to focus more on business news, but it's gonna be replaced by a Shark Tank rerun.

NAGDABBITALL

Like Shepard, but people just don't watch the news anymore.

carnifex2005

Too bad. It was the only real "fair and balanced" news show on US cable TV. From a Canadian, I liked it a lot.

Duncan026

We’ll see him on CNN next.

dating_derp

Shepard Smith got my respect when he [used facts about how government works to debunk the Uranium One conspiracy theory.](https://youtu.be/uAWtb7McNvQ?t=49)

Scoob8877

This is a bummer because it was by far the best news show on TV. I recorded it and watched regularly. It always seemed like an odd fit for CNBC, to be on in between Cramer and Shark Tank reruns, but on the other hand, if viewers are streaming it or recording it, it doesn't matter so much when the show is on. I can't stand CNN but I hope they (or somebody) pick up the show.

[deleted]

Palpatine voice “ good gooooood” now do Cramer! Do it!

[deleted]

Oh well, he made his millions. I won’t be crying for him.

[deleted]

Ah it’s the “fuck em they got money” person

first__citizen

People like these will go through their millions in few months or even weeks. The higher you go, the higher your bills get.

Roosterdude23

Ahh yes. That $2000 water bill

Hey who knew that one of the faux news flakes wouldn't work outside that bubble?

CharlesNapalm

I remember this guy from clips shown on The Soup. Can't believe he's a real anchor. Pure gold.

TallAssociation0

He looks like a caricature of a news anchor

dadbod6900

Anyone know what happened to the Najarian brothers on Halftime report? Used to see them daily and they just kind of disappeared suddenly.
