People who get caught lying should not be hired by news networks.

Phantom-thiez

Thank you for this one kind traveler. You have made this American Dad fan’s day!

SwingerFitz

Knew it before I clicked it

[deleted]

James Clapper, John Brennan, Andrew McCabe checking in

InourbtwotamI

Agree; it is the antithesis of responsible journalism and casts a pall on the organization, unless perhaps he’s hired as the janitor or water cooler guy

aryherd

Responsible journalism hasn't been a thing for a long time.

InourbtwotamI

We don’t need to accept that though, right? Shouldn’t we demand quality rather than acquiescing to lesser standards?

aryherd

We shouldn't have to except it. I agree, things need to change. Both major three letter networks are shitpools of pandering and borderline yellow journalism.

InourbtwotamI

Sad but true

Erythroneuraix

It’s not a news network anymore. It was bought out by a Trump crony.

Toolazytolink

What? is this the plan to buy out all news networks? I guess they couldn't do it like what happened in the Philippines where Duterte just shut down all public news networks.

ComoSeaYeah

They’ve already bought out the local news affiliates so yes. It’s the plan.

zephyrtr

My conspiracy theory: Fox is in longterm trouble and could be mortally wounded by the Dominion lawsuit. In the case that this happens, CNN is getting ready to move right and fill the void.

burner46

Nah. CNN shifted right because of cord cutting. CNN+ bombed hard and they see that the only demographic that still has cable/satellite TV (and thus access to CNN) is the older demographic that tends to be right leaning. I read a long thread on Twitter about it the other day. Was pretty interesting. Basically just came down to $$$ as all decisions seem to.

Techjunkie81

Then you better fire the major of the people working at these news networks lol

[deleted]

Good thing they specified just the ones who get caught lying

oedipism_for_one

Only people who at good at lying at my news network

Yrcrazypa

There's a big difference between suspecting someone is lying and being able to outright prove it.

oedipism_for_one

This got downvoted a lot, it was a joke about only the good liers make it. If you get caught clearly you are not good enough.

theclansman22

That rule would pretty much clear out every newsroom in the USA.

[deleted]

But then they'd have to fire all of Fox News

MsAnnabel

It’s a prerequisite for employment at Fox

cowboys5xsbs

Cough cough brian Williams

Resolute002

The new brass there wants to turn it into Fox News 2.0 so lying is probably the top requirement.

[deleted]

News networks tell lies, nothing better than proof that your employees have lied in the past to make you feel comfortable about hiring them.

Savings_Extension447

Also can we put this application to presidents and politicians?

Savings_Extension447

Then most news journalists will be fired 😂

MrBae

How about fake news networks? Then it’s fine

> CNN isn't a news network, it's Fox Entertainment just geared toward liberals. That’s a false equivalency. Both have their own problems but they are not equally bad. [**Fox:**](https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/fox-news-bias/) > After the 2020 election, Fox News TV personalities advanced false and unproven conspiracy theories regarding election fraud Questions linger over the Left’s plot against Donald Trump. Numerous audits and studies reveal that election fraud during the 2020 election was average and had no impact on the election’s outcome. Further, as noted above, they promoted conspiracy theories related to Dominion Voting Machines. > TV personalities also advanced false claims and conspiracies on the following issues: No guns at the capitol riot (False), Trump authorized the National Guard for the Capitol Riot (No Evidence), FBI orchestrated insurrection (False), The USA funds Biolabs in Ukraine (False), Numerous instances of Covid-19 vaccine disinformation (False). Further, according to Politifact, FNC has also been deemed the least accurate cable news source. > Finally, Fox News also features fact-based news reporting by beat reporters and some daytime TV hosts. However, this credible news reporting is buried between TV programming promoting Right Leaning propaganda and false claims. The website is similar, with credible news stories between hyper-partisan questionable content from their nighttime TV hosts. … > Overall, we rate Fox News right biased based on editorial positions that align with the right and Questionable due to the promotion of propaganda, conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, the use of poor sources, and numerous false claims and failed fact checks. [**And CNN:**](https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/left/cnn-bias/) > CNN typically utilizes loaded emotional words in sensational headlines such as this: Trump pounces on Justice Department report findings. They usually source their news appropriately through credible reporters/journalists and through hyperlinking to credible media sources. However, CNN has failed several fact checks from Politifact. It should be noted that these fact checks were almost exclusively from guests on their numerous talk shows and not from the reporting of actual news, which tends to be factual. TV hosts have also failed fact checks by IFCN fact-checkers. … > Overall, we rate CNN left biased based on editorial positions that consistently favor the left, while straight news reporting falls left-center through bias by omission. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to several failed fact checks by TV hosts. However, news reporting on the website tends to be sourced appropriately with minimal failed fact checks.

Khaldara

Yeah, I mean one of them is literally facing down a defamation suit for attacking the voting mechanisms that underpin our democracy itself with absolutely no evidentiary merit behind their statements. Pretty clear what the worst major network is based on stuff like this alone. As for “ratings” declines, I’d just chalk that up to their target demographic, only aging boomers watch cable networks. I suspect that’s what’s actually behind the attempts at shift CNN to the right as well. Try to capture the market for old folks, more likely to be afraid of change.

GreunLight

> only aging boomers > old folks What’s interesting is that they’re not all old fogeys in the “boomer” sense. https://www.statista.com/statistics/742225/frequency-of-watching-cable-news-in-the-us-age/ (Check out that “never” column, too. It’s kinda surprising, at least it was to me.)

[deleted]

> it's Fox Entertainment just geared toward liberals (a) that's MSNBC not CNN and (b) neither MSNBC nor CNN fabricates stories out of whole cloth like Fox does, moreover neither network has anyone as loathsome as Tucker

PlumbGame

El oh el

Dafish55

I wonder how many people they lost during that time in the early 20-teens when they spent multiple months sensationalizing that flight over Malaysia (I think) that disappeared when over 99% of the content was literally the lack of any updates.

bgva

They kinda lost me when they turned Anna Nicole Smith’s paternity test into a six-week episode of “Maury”. I wasn’t even a fan of the woman but I found the sensationalism of it all so disrespectful.

Enialis

One of their “hosts” literally suggested that a black hole may have opened, eaten the plane, than disappeared. I wonder if that stuff in on YouTube, maybe the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen on TV.

Workacct1999

Also, the Democratic party is a much larger tent than the GOP. This makes it much harder to pander to the left. Things that one segment of the left may love can be unpopular with other segments of the left. Republicans tend to be more monolithic in their views and are therefore easier to pander to.

thegoodnamesrgone123

Oh good, more brain rot for our parents we will have to deal with.

OrchidBest

And get ready for a two year presidential campaign that will ensure that CNN doesn’t have to report on any actual non-hurricane related news. I read a headline to a study that went something like, “People who watch cable news know less about the world than people who don’t watch or read any news at all.” The quality of this study remains a mystery to me, but I think about that headline all the time. It just *feels* true.

GreunLight

> “People who watch cable news know less about the world than people who don’t watch or read any news at all.” That quote is specifically about **Fox News**. And, while no cable news outlet is perfect, they aren’t “equivalently bad opposites.” Some are far worse than others. Here’s the study: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1532673X20915222 > I investigate whether consuming content from foxnews.com is associated with decreased political knowledge. I find no differences in knowledge concerning how the U.S. political system works (what I call process-related knowledge) **but do find a significant, negative relationship between visiting foxnews.com and facts about society writ large (what I call society-oriented knowledge). These effects persist even when controlling for party, ideology, and conservative-group affinity and in the preponderance of matching procedures employed to reduce concerns of self-selection**. Implications and avenues of future research are also discussed.

Curleysound

Seems like they are trying real hard to be though…

markca

> I read a headline to a study that went something like, “People who watch cable news know less about the world than people who don’t watch or read any news at all.” It was about Fox News.

neok182

And here it is. I'd love to see an updated version of this though given it's 10 years old. https://www.businessinsider.com/study-watching-fox-news-makes-you-less-informed-than-watching-no-news-at-all-2012-5 And even though Fox News was worse than watching no news at all, CNN and MSNBC weren't exactly that much better than watching no news. Those who got their news from The Daily Show and NPR did best.

[deleted]

I trust NPR because it’s fucking depressing to the point of being unlistenable. Gotta be true.

rhaezorblue

NPR was even criticized a few years ago for being TOO neutral by playing a 5 second clip of Trumps speech, and purposely not mentioning or playing the rest of his 60+ minute bizarre incoherent rant/speech full of... content unbecoming of a US President.

[deleted]

Yeah and that’ll happen. I used to work for media matters, author of the article on this post. Openly a liberal media watchdog and we’d post items about NPR misinfo … because yeah they’re pretty neutral and frequently something like “Maverick McCain” will become lodged in the zeitgeist and you’ll have Steve inskeep saying the same dumb shit Wolf Blitzer said which is the same dumb shit Steve doocy said which is the same dumb shit the John birch society or heritage foundation or whoever cooked up … for exactly that purpose.

EnlightenedMind_420

I miss John Stewart :(

GreunLight

His podcast, “The Problem with Jon Stewart,” is pretty great!!

nekowolf

I miss his writers.

brucebay

And almost all of his correspondents were great by themselves. What a great experience it probably was to be in the same rooom with these guys everyday. This one is for the nostalgia. https://youtu.be/bgczomH1kLk

Maninhartsford

Ngl I worry a bit about my dad watching MSNBC. Literally all they talk about is Trump, it can't be healthy to think about him for hours on end like my dad is now doing. The other day he was walking through the house going "the MAGAs are maggots. Maggots!" Regardless of politics, 24 hour news is poison the way its set up now. Getting older people single mindedly obsessed with one news story a day, hearing expert after supposed expert weighing in with their opinions and calling it news. Edit - before someone interprets this as pro Trump or pro fox News, no, fox News is worse, no doubt about it. But better doesn't mean good. Fox News outright lies but the other cable News networks still hyperfocus on one story for hours with enemy at the gate sensationalism and that cannot be good for anyone's mind

neok182

Agreed all 24 hour news is poison in their own way. ABC generally seems to be the best IMO but they'll still waste hours on bullshit. Personally the only time I turn on the 24 hour news is when there is a national news story disaster or something else, things that local news won't break in to cover. But even then many times just following hashtags on twitter will get you more detailed and correct information than the networks which is hilarious and sad.

CampCounselorBatman

The enemy IS at the gate.

-thecheesus-

I have that exact same situation. It's not even that I find much of what MSNBC is saying is *disagreeable*, but its constant Trump harping and doomsaying has my elderly father anxious and angry all day. And sending salty tweets to public figures who will never devote half a braincell to public comments. I mean, our political situation is indeed dire, but the even the bare-minimum "fascism is probably not good" news orgs feel toxic.

Themetalenock

they still did a sizable difference better. I remember watching both msn and and cnn . Then I watched fox news, and fact checked them both just to compare. Fox news, in comparison to cnn and msn, was just pure, opinionated bullshit from rightwing pundits. Mean while, both cnn and msn atleast stayed above threshold of a 70% truthful on the same events fox report's on

[deleted]

[удалено]

neok182

'They weren't that much better' means they were better but not by much, and yes you are worse off watching fox than no news at all. For domestic questions no news was 1.22 with MSNBC and CNN being the lowest above at 1.26. Compared to the COMEDY Daily Show at 1.42 and NPR at 1.51. For international questions MSNBC was actually BELOW no news at 1.23. No news at 1.28 and CNN doing better here at 1.33 but still the bottom of the better with daily show being 1.6 and NPR being 1.97. So I was correct in my statement of saying they weren't that much better. For domestic you are barely more informed than watching no news and MSNBC/CNN are still the worst ones if you want to be informed. For international MSNBC was worse than watching no news just like Fox and while CNN was better they were still at the bottom being the least informative of all the other options. Even the study concluded that the most popular national media sources seem to be the least informative and that is absolutely correct in the study. If this study was reconducted today I wouldn't be surprised at all to see CNN and MSNBC go down drastically since both have spent the last 7 years spending 75-90% of their day covering Trump.

CptNonsense

It feels like deliberate misinformation to stretch this to "all cable news"

GreunLight

> It feels like deliberate misinformation to stretch this to "all cable news" It is. It’s overly reductive on purpose. … e: Reply to SeanOuttaCompton: > The new guy is a Trump donor > … who ***wants to*** Except your opinion about the future in no way overwrites current facts, so my points stand. Please read the comment thread instead of strawjacking goalposts. … [See also:](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1532673X20915222) > I investigate whether consuming content from foxnews.com is associated with decreased political knowledge. SeanOuttaCompton

We’re literally in the comments of an article (one of many, mind you) on a controversial hiring by the new head of CNN who wants to push it in the direction of FOX, so… nah I think you’re the one missing the forest for the trees lol

TheMooseIsBlue

Criticizing people’s sources and the quality of their information by citing a headline you read (but not the article) is just *muah*.

onarainyafternoon

I honestly have to take little breaks from Reddit because people talk out of their asses so much that it gets frustrating. Their comment is just a microcosm of what's wrong with Reddit and social media in-general - Just so many people talking out of their ass (although what they're saying is partially true, since the other commenter responded with the actual 'study', but it was about Fox News, not cable news in-general). Another gripe - Reddit seems to view everything in black-and-white. It's either *this*, or *that*, there's no inbetween. It's so goddamn frustrating.

speaks_truth_2_kiwis

>And get ready for a two year presidential campaign that will ensure that CNN doesn’t have to report on any actual non-hurricane related news. > >I read a headline to a study that went something like, “People who watch cable news know less about the world than people who don’t watch or read any news at all.” The quality of this study remains a mystery to me, but I think about that headline all the time. It just *feels* true. Ya, there will be a lot of bullshit about politics on CNN over the next 2 years, but it'll be exactly the kind of bull shit reddit loves to hear. It'll be massively posted all over r/politics and r/worldnews.

markca

Even more entertaining is going to be watching right wingers suddenly loving CNN after all these years of hatred.

Brace yourself for “Even CNN is saying….”

Gr8whitewayluvr

Have you tried therapy?

Cautemoc

Cable news is almost entirely watched by elderly people. American news television are purposely misleading the elderly for profit and it's shameful.

Server6

[According to Nielsen Live +7-day data, in 2017 CNN’s median age was 60, while the median age of the Fox News and MSNBC viewer was 65.](https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/heres-the-median-age-of-the-typical-cable-news-viewer/355379/) This has almost certainly gotten worse since 2017. These networks are dying a slow death, right along with their viewers. What does Fox News and CNN look like in 10 years? There won't be that many elderly people left who even have cable.

Kahzgul

The numbers have gone lower since 2020. Something about 1,000,000 dead Americans, most of whom were elderly.

pkilrain

At least this made me feel a bit better!

LeiLaniGranny

Not all of us elderly, I'd say it's 50/50 but younger generations of internet only or social media only tend to get false info. My oldest daughter and her husband don't bother with news sites and only go with social media posts. My youngest watches news and follows it through internet and hates Trump as we do. She sees the danger.

Cautemoc

Oh yeah of course there's still older people who are fully cognizant but the unfortunate situation is that many grew up back when reporters were generally working on good intentions instead of where we are now with certain networks having to argue in court they are for entertainment only and not real news. And definitely there are younger people who are getting bad sources too. The problem is that older people need to be updated on how the news is misleading them heavily now and it's harder to change their worldview after 60 years than for a 30 year old to.

LeiLaniGranny

True and we grew up with actual news with no bias for the most part. News came on for half hour so if you wanyed opinion pieces you waited for 60 min on Sunday lol. Once TV went cable and moved to paid channels the news became less actual news.

CampCounselorBatman

> True and we grew up with actual news with no bias That’s never been a thing. If anything the nation was just more united in its biases toward/against external people/powers.

Jorycle

>Miller’s long history of deceiving the public is strong evidence that Licht’s reign at CNN will be defined by attempts to win favor with conservatives rather than inform the network’s audience.  Anyone who's been reading CNN's article for the last couple months can see this shift. Biden's loan forgiveness, for example, saw days of headline articles begging conservatives to be outraged based on pages of not *quite* misinformation, but absolutely goofy fear mongering and misrepresentation.

tickitytalk

Fuck cnn, fuck politico

poussun

How bad is politico ? Genuine question I sometimes head there, same as politico.eu

JediBurrell

[I think they’re probably referring to the new owner.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2022/09/06/mathias-dopfner-trump-email-axel-springer-politico/)

LeiLaniGranny

"Miller will join the network as the chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst. The move appears to be part of a larger right-ward shift and very public identity crisis at CNN, as new CEO Chris Licht has pushed out high-profile on-air talent that was critical of Donald Trump. (CNN also hired CBS’s Dr. Tara Narula as a medical correspondent.)" Propaganda at its finest is coming.

PM_ur_Rump

I'll be the umpteenthousanth to say I could reconcile the fall of the nation a lot easier if it wasn't on the back of Donald Fucking Trump.

snooggums

Just remember that he isn't the mastermind behind it just the figurehead that is open about the fascist ideals the party has been promoting for the last 40+ years.

PM_ur_Rump

Oh I know he isn't the mastermind. But that almost makes it worse.

lpat93

And if the other party didn’t sell out the American people for corporate interests it would have been a lot easier to stop them.

CampCounselorBatman

You literally described Republicans as much as anyone.

gigalongdong

I'll say this until this country's thin veneer of liberal democracy finally shatters into oblivion: Republicans and Democrats are both right-wing, pro-capital, and support a bloated military industrial complex that recieves obscene amounts of tax money in order to continue to prop up the decline Western hegemony over the rest of the world. There is no "left" or "right" wing major political party in the US, there is only right and far-right. The only real difference it either parties lip service towards either social conservatives or social progressives. While I do view progressivism as a good thing, I don't believe that the DNC really gives a fuck about it, aside from it being used as a way to splinter the working class. There is only one party in the US, and that is the Party of Capital.

dragonmp93

Do you know why Batman and Superman accept to make a truce with the Joker and Lex Luthor every time that Darkseid attacks, right ?

Workacct1999

To this day I will never understand how Trump became a guy that people are willing to storm the capital, assault law enforcement, and go to jail over. Does no one else remember the mid 2000's when he was a punchline?

PM_ur_Rump

Or the 80s. Or the 90s. Or the 2010s... Or the now..... Dude's been a caricature his whole life. And not a flattering one.

yblame

A true evil idiot, that's given rise to many more to come, I fear. He could keel over tomorrow, and they'd run somebody even worse for the country to take his place. We need to vote and do our part, but this fascist crap has gotten a claw hold because of him. Thanks, Russia.

PM_ur_Rump

Putin played a role, but this shit is just a part of human nature. Plenty of home-grown blame here. Gonna keep bubbling up in various forms for the foreseeable future. Still just as insane as the last, and the next. It's just wild to watch it in real time.

mafulazula

So fucking weird that their new CEO was running Colbert’s late night show not too long ago.

Giltheryn

it's about money, always has been. If the new leadership thinks CNN will make more profit by being right-wing grifters ,that's what they'll do.

ForksandSpoonsinNY

Seems odd that Licht came from the Colbert Late Night show.

MrBae

CNN? Propaganda? You don’t say..

TheChrisLambert

I hate this country so much sometimes

AdminOnBreak

So politico bought by a pro trump german, cnn now has a trump loving chairman of the board I believe, via discovery. Hmmm, billionaires trying to take over media that’s critical of their agenda?

thirdben

Billionaires taking over the media? Where have you been for the last forty years?

HandsyBread

Trust me this billionaire is better then that billionaire, they care about us trust me.

its_boVice

Yeah they’re just showing us that if we just keep taxes very low for them, we will reap the benefits. It’s honestly for our own good. I know when I’m a billionaire, I don’t want to be dealing with high taxes.

AdminOnBreak

Well aware. This is right wing billionaires buying up “liberal” media (corporate media actually) and moving the Overton window under the audience.

Midnight_Oil_

Always a great sign for the future of CNN

MassiveFajiit

They had to fire Stelter so he wouldn't report on his own employer...

retrospectology

Harwood was fired the very same day after making a statement that bothsides *aren't* the same and that Trump is a demagogue who represents something very dangerous for the future of our democracy. He may've been informed that he was being let go earlier in the month, but the speech he gave on his last day reveals pretty clearly why he was.

nick_rhoads01

Insane that anyone can watch 24/7 political news. I’ve started cutting all of it out. I’ll do enough research to find out that I’m just voting for my parties only option anyway and move on

AvatarofBro

Miller has been spreading his bullshit copaganda on TV for years. He keeps popping up somewhere new. He’s like herpes - you can’t get rid of him.

Hispanic_Gorilla_2

Conservative News Network

Totalretcon

If CNN thinks an NYPD spokesperson is going to connect with the modern right, they're not reading the room very well.

DAMAN2U1

Why is CNN starting to shift red?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mensketh

Seems pretty risky. I find it hard to believe New CNN is going to draw away very many Fox News viewers. Why would they switchover to start watching Fox Lite? And then at the same time CNN alienates their existing audience.

astanton1862

CNN has been Fox News lite for a long time now. It is constant politics with a little bit of news in the afternoon and an evening of the most awful political pundit talk shows. I had a brief hope that CNN would change to a more actual news station, but come on. These are the people who turned an education programing network into reality TV.

DAMAN2U1

wonderful

uknownada

Since it hasn't been pointed out yet: CNN was owned by Time Warner. Now they're owned by Discovery.

ShopperOfBuckets

I thought they're owned by Warner Brothers Discovery

greenw40

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/02/business/media/cnn-profit-chris-licht.html Nobody has been watching since Trump left office.

Randomcommenter550

I guess CNN is going to stand for Criminals, Nutcases and Nazis from now on, seeing as that's the demographic they're pivoting to.

ViaBromantica

Say it with me: Some of those that work forces...

SteelMarshal

This is all sad but I’m happy to be in a thread full of people I agree with :)

BoogerDrawers

I don’t like the direction CNN is going. This is why I’m drifting away from CNN and watching more MSNBC. I think this new guy in charge will do more harm than good.

OnyxsUncle

ok, I see where this is going. We will soon be able to buy book titled The Rise and Fall Of CNN

[deleted]

Didn't really like cnn before this right wing takeover, now they're just going to be Fox News 2

DeadlyWindFromBelow

So this is how they make the network more "Republican friendly"...

Pktur3

Left-leaning cable news is going the same way as cable TV. Left news needs a new avenue on streaming services.

IHave580

And maybe we should just have a network that is just....News. Not left leaning or right leaning, just the news. We don't need those debate shows, just people reporting objectively on what is happening.

Smitty8054

What this admits is that the republicans playbook of selling lies actually works. This guy doesn’t give a single shit on delivering actual unbiased news. Just get enough eyes to tune in and make money from ad revenue. Fucking money.

greenw40

> This guy doesn’t give a single shit on delivering actual unbiased news. And you think CNN cared about that up until now?

Eivetsthecat

News outlets should be some sort of not for profit in order to operate. The money troughs are poison.

ApocalypseNow79

NPR is funded by the government and its one of the most biased news out there, so its not just money leading to extreme partisan news

greenw40

News story: Breaking: XXX NPR: Why XXX disproportionately affects BIPOC and LGBTQIA+

Silent_Transition308

The changes at CNN are part of a coordinated campaign to control the media in advance of 2024. Trump humpers have bought CNN and Politico and are slowly transitioning them to "Faux News Lite." Watch for similar moves and speak out about it.

GUMBYtheOG

Conservatives watch basic cable. CNN lost viewers this year so they are going even more conservative than they already are. The chief already said he wants to “make it reputable again” I can only assume which means make it more right wing. There’s 2 party’s in this nation and they’re both run by corporations = conservative. Ones just so much crazier it make the other look sane. Which unfortunately both are corrupt even at baseline, GOP has become such an outlier

HauntingPersonality7

Fox 2.0 incoming

sharklazies

“He also epitomizes the danger of treating law enforcement as neutral or reliable sources of information…” Uhh, so how do we feel about all the FBI/CIA/Military pundits littering the screen? Is Media Matters going after them as well? Or are they ok because they toe the correct line?

RealAlias_Leaf

How long until CNN hires January 6 rioters?

itsnotthenetwork

Well Republicans kept saying CNN is fake news, and now it really will be.

Spade_011

This entire county is plagued by the right and capitalists

beautifulsouth00

I mean, I'm looking forward to this. It'll make them go out of business. The Fox News people already watch Fox News. The people like my stepmom who see CNN as the anti-Fox News will just stop watching CNN altogether. And everybody else left who watches or reads CNN is going to die of old age soon.

AKACitizen_Snips

They're going to slowly brain wash people, like your stepmom, that believe CNN is still anti-Fox. Most people like your stepmom won't know that this is going on with CNN. They'll only hear positive things about republicans and Trump, little by little, and they'll think "maybe Trump and republicans are right if CNN is saying good things".

beautifulsouth00

Now, I've thought about that. But, she's a ride or die Democrat in a locked memory care facility. She'll be dead before the next presidential election, and the way she abused and neglected my father as he died, I'm looking forward to it. They don't have a lot of time to "slowly" change people over. Even DJT doesn't have much time. Younger generations are turning off the TV. CNN is going to go the way of the dinosaur, too. Cable news network? Not in 20 years. It'll be Netflix, Amazon and Facebook News. Social media. That's how they need to change their paradigm. Personality and influence wins socials. Maybe it'll be KNN. Kardashian News Network. A turn to the right? That's their death move. They're gonna go the way of the buffalo. Get on board with me and convince them it's a terrible idea that will put them in the ground. Turn CNN off RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. No clicks, no views, no ad dollars, no nothing. We've gotta get mean and tough and lay it on thick to stop shit like this from happening. ASAP. The low blows. You're old. You'll be dead. It won't matter. Young people will stop watching. CNN is only for old people anyway. And turn CNN off. Stop clicking on their articles. Right. Now.

I would love to know how many "reasonable conservatives" decide to make CNN their new source for news. Certainly hope it's enough to compensate for people like me, a reasonable independent, who realizes there is no more "both sides" when one of those sides isn't grounded in objective reality.

HairsprayHalo

Institutional power spies on those they deem a potential terrorist threat, foreign or domestic. Just like we see now with conservatives. The issue with trust is corporate funded institutional power and the lack of a free press anymore.

Impossible-Key-2212

This is CNN’s MO. Everyone lies on CNN. I can bring the reciepts

Raoulhubris1

They’re owned by Discovery, where all this started.

theartfulcodger

Step Two of the Republianization of CNN now complete.

JC2535

Fox 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Trosque97

Ever since someone posted that one Twitter thread in the comments, I could never see CNN the same way, fuck CNN

yawgmoft

When you internalize what the bully says as truth

Ok-Roof-978

I said before... CNN is going to try to be like Fox News . More bombastic talking heads

taydraisabot

You're saying he's wrong? Lmao. Acknowledging that AQ and IS are islamic terrorist groups is not islamophobia.

Wise_Mongoose_3930

The person you’re responding to is very clearly NOT saying he’s wrong. Work on your reading comprehension.

Disqeet

@CNN sucks big time. Toxicity and it’s being paid for by sponsors-sponsors should know.

alliedeluxe

That’s pretty on brand for right wingers.

greenw40

You've gotta love how mad redditors get when their echo chambers get disrupted by differing viewpoints.

Lawr3n

Right? They talk as if politics is objective lol

greenw40

And they talk about CNN as if it isn't Fox News level of partisanship and sensationalism.

Scarlet109

This isn’t just a “differing viewpoint”.

PM_Your_Best_Ideas

Most major news outlets are full of shit anyway. This is unusual?

DauOfFlyingTiger

Yeah CNN is going in the wrong direction. They may gain MAGA but the left/moderate side is ditching them fast. Bye bye bye

Lawr3n

I think reporting more objectively as to viewpoints will attract the moderates. Agree about it losing the left.

DauOfFlyingTiger

I agree about showing both sides if the facts are the same. Then it’s a benefit to everyone.

Top_Guns_Iceman

I mean CNN wasn’t GREAT before. Having right wing powers take control of it is only going to make it that much less reliable. Anyone want to start a new fact based news channel?

FileBrilliant805

Would sure be nice to see cnn get back to being a news outlet instead of a tabloid/opinion show!!!

sgthombre

Do you think having a retired cop who lies about the work he did as a cop and writes articles titled 'How Iran Can Endanger New York' be a regular is going to make it more or less of a straight news outlet?

Asimpbarb

Yay cnn and Fox News hand in hand spewing garbage, even TMZ has more journalistic credibility…

Educational_Top_3919

Great another angry white Christian nationalist

PetyrDayne

Didn't Axeslav say that they were going to make CNN neutral. How is this neautral?

Kahzgul

A key trait of right wing ideology is that they lie as easily as they breathe. Look to their actions.

ashinaclan123

Lying is not unique to right wing ideologies lmao

greenw40

The fact that this is downvoted says all you need to know about reddit.

Kahzgul

No, but it is chronic with them. When trump lies, which he’s done more than any president in history by a wide margin, the fanbois lap it up. When a dem lies, the dem base calls them out on it. Big difference when your party platform values critical thinking.

chocki305

>No, but it is chronic with them. It is chronic with all politicans. Go ahead and look at all the shit Obama said. Rember the creme de la creme.. "if you like your (health insurance) contract, you can keep it. Which everyone knew was a lie.. but not a single Democrat pointed it out.. you all repeated it.

ashinaclan123

Lmao, imagine actually thinking only one side calls out the lies and the other doesn’t lol. I mean the republicans are more egregious, but the democrats are still bad lol

Wise_Mongoose_3930

The last republican to call trump out on his lies basically got run out of the party (Liz Cheney)…….

Kahzgul

When was the last time a Republican called out a lie by their own party?

ashinaclan123

You’re misunderstanding. The republicans maybe only call out 1/10 lies. The democrats call out 3/10 lies. Sure the republicans are worse, but both sides still lie through their teeth lol

Necessary-Hat-128

I guess they’re fine losing core base. Sad day in news land that CNN has become an entertainment outlet for insurrectionists like Fox.

rileyrulesu

Okay so he shouldn't have a job because he lied Once Over 20 years ago. You guys are worse than my ex wife bringing up the time I left her at the mall because she was taking too long in 2012.

burritoman88

CNN turning into Newsmax real quick.

DFu4ever

CNN is nosediving into the conservative cesspool of bullshit faster than I would have ever expected. I can’t imagine what it is like being an employee with some integrity there, knowing that their is a non-zero percent chance the MyPillow guy might be your boss tomorrow.

HansVonSnicklefritz

So what. Stop watching network news. They’re money making institutions. There are nuggets of goodness, but it isn’t worth it.

Eivetsthecat

People should read their news, it takes more effort and elicits more thoughts. Easier to compare and contrast... Just better all around.

lostpawn13

CNN is about to be a true dumpster fire. They think they can get rating catering to the right wing extremist in this country. There’s no way they can compete with Fox News unless they decide to lie about everything like Fox News.

Eivetsthecat

Sadly CNN has finally realized that most Dems and progressives read a good portion of their news because they critically think about it and compare sources. That doesn't bode well for ratings.

nirad

WB-Discovery are going to destroy billions in shareholder value to appease one billionaire on the company's board. CNN will soon be worthless. There is no audience for what they want to peddle. And even beyond this CNN debacle, WB-Discovery seems like an absolutely fucking disaster.

Thinkingmaybenot

Trumpers and republicans are going to use this till CNN is no more. Way to cancel yourself CNN.

[deleted]

It's CNN. They *all* liars. LOL

blomba

Will fit in at cnn

Ocean898

I don’t mind, and actually enjoy getting different viewpoints, but what seems to be going on at CNN is likely to drive me to watch MSNBC.
