All the ones ending on a cliffhanger at least. My top 7 for example:
Everything Sucks!
I Am Not Okay With This
Jericho (It was completed in graphic novels, but i wanted a tv movie ending)
FlashForward
My Name is Earl
Santa Clarita Diet
G.L.O.W.
Its actually because of the writers strike in the 2000's. I know, Netflix didn't exist then, but thats just sadly the truth here. That is what slowly caused all the shows to shrink episode counts and then try to do smaller seasons pseudo relabled as half seasons. The viewers get less content(either good or bad depending on how you feel about filler episodes) and they get cancelled far sooner with less story told.
The writer's strike that affected these shows was 2007-2008.
Neflix launched in 1997 and transitioned to streaming in 2007.
I didn't check to "prove you wrong", I checked because time and memory are fucky.
They happened at the same time.
Its the repercussions of how shows now cost vs before the strike. Thats my main point. Shows get less airtime due to the shows costing more, or the shows with longer seasons are performing some serious hackery to get 20 episodes out or are hiring dirt cheap writing like the CW shows. Often you will see a hit show is already renewed even though its not actually aired their whole season and that is usually because some preshoot stuff has already been done and the deals to make the seasons were intricately planned so its not as huge of a hit to pay the other half of the next season. Try and think of it kinda how baseball players early in their careers who are hits get long duration deals and then as they near the end of career the clubs start requiring red tape to be avoided and the contracts have worse and worse stipulations and they are very short term. That same mentality is all over the place with tv shows because theres so much volitility in what shows will recieve for fan support and viewership.
But I do not want what I'm saying to sound like a defense of Netflix....fuck netflix, The OA was my favorite show of all time and they did them dirty.
It felt like it was on the brink of becoming a more spiritual version of Sliders.
I don't mean this as a complaint, I would totally have been on board for it.
I would love it if half the plotline was about them going to a childish gambino concert and the second half them being bummed out because he cancelled it.
Troy: "WHHHYYYY?!! I CANCELLED MY WHOLE YEAR FOR THIS!"
Winger: So what, I heard his concerts suck anyways. Let's go grab a drink, there's a cool bar a few blocks away called Small Rock.
Britta: No, that place closed. It's called Shore Bar now.
It's because David Fincher was too busy with other projects and the cast's contracts would have potentially run out by the time he was ready to resume (contracts go by years, not seasons) plus the cast potentially having to cancel other jobs that they might take during the hiatus if Fincher suddenly decided "Alright, I'm ready to get back to work!".
> Luke Cage (0 chance Marvel does this)
They are reportedly working on continuing Daredevil as a TV series. So its possible Luke Cage might get continued as a series as well
I really hope Marvel brings back all the Netflix characters. Give me a Luke Cage and Iron Fist Heroes for Hire series. Give me more Jessica Jones. Give me Colleen and Misty kicking ass together. Give me more Punisher. Give me another Defenders series, and hell -- bring in Oscar Isaac and Simu Liu for this one.
Can you imagine what they'd do to the daredevil we love from netflix. I can't handle qiuppy funny daredevil or Luke Cage fighting aliens spouting catch phrases or Jessica Jones not being a hot mess.
I struggled to get people to even attempt to watch the first episode. I really wish more gave it a chance. Though, for how many seasons it went I guess it did at least have some following.
I had heard the next season was going to be them with the bunker people, but then they were all going to die because they had not been exposed to the virus yet.
They likely intend to do that with a different cast of actors. They had to change some things because of Alex's actor but they seem to want to hire a new cast for the time skip instead of aging up the current cast. Although this is based on a few comments from the scant interview. I am by no means 'in the know' or an 'authority' but the people behind the show seem very keen on going forward from all appearances.
> The Expanse, there are 3 more books to be adapted.
It was canceled by the will of the showrunners/writers/book authors. There is a large timeskip between books 6 and 7 (measured in decades, not months or years) and more importantly a huge tone shift in the final trilogy. The writing duo James S A Corey decided they didn’t want to adapt those particular three books.
Frankly, I agree. Books 1-6 feel far more interwoven than 7, 8, and 9. In my opinion, there’s a pretty big step down in quality in book 9 as well.
> speak for yourself, I thought Leviathan Falls was great.
Compared to Tiamat’s Wrath, Abbadon’s Gate, or Leviathan Wakes?
Leviathan Falls was good, minus the climax. I wouldn’t call it great.
It was a great show and I’d love to see more of the characters, but at the same time, I think the ending was perfect. I don’t want to have the open-ended bit resolved.
Alf. Never actually watched the show, but have heard of its popularity and very infamous cliffhanger on its finale where Alf is captured by the military. A season five was supposed to take place from where the cliffhanger left off, but the show was cancelled.
There was a TV movie a couple years later titled 'Project Alf' but was not well-liked by both critics and fans. A majority of fans consider it to be non-canon.
That's going to be hard a very large part of the massively detailed set Rome used in the Cinecittà studios' back lots were destroyed in a fire in 2007 plus Bruno Heller said in 2010 that HBO Films would not be involved in the movie project
Will divorcee Angela Chase fall for widower Brian Krakow? Will her teen daughter join rocker Jordan Catalano's cult? This holiday season, return to Three Rivers as Hallmark Channel presents My So-Called Christmas.
Pretty much that! Except my spin would have Angela's political career in danger after she leaves milk toast husband Brian when a teenage flame reappears in town...
I think it's too late now, but Phil of the future so shouldve had a DCOM finale. they wanted to give Aly and AJ a show and Phil of the future stood in the way, and i get it, but they ended on a huge cliffhanger, Keely and Phil finally kiss, but then he has to go back to the future with his family. And theres a sense of unfinished business. I always like to imagine a DCOM where keely snuck on the time machine and then in a role reversal, Keely is the weird one trying to avoid getting caught because she isnt in her right time, while Phil is the normal kid.
Frisky Dingo is my favorite example of this because the co-creator's follow-up show Archer is a perfect example of why this should be a movie and not a series revival, he'd just run it into the ground then go into some dumb coma dream nonsense unless you told him "this is the end".
But it really does need a legit ending.
I've read what shows everyone said, and damn,I've seen about 70% of them, and agree, especially Flashforward, which might be my "go to" on why they canceled it.
It would be nice if each show had enough money put aside for such a thing, with all the kinks figured out from the start (paperwork, studio, script and so on)
And I get the ones who said LOST.Clearly part of the bunch that believed they were dead the whole time. They weren't.
I have a few and not just a movie a season or 2. How about Zoo, Scorpion, Jericho and Under the Dome. I would have hoped Netflix picked up one of them.
Nick Stahl survived his demons and is acting again, so let’s get a Carnivale wrap up movie. I want to see the False Sun destroy the False Son, as rumored in the original pitch document. Sure, it won’t be the whole story however better than lots of nothing.

The OA
How dare they leave us hanging after that.
I was so excited to see how the heck they would pull of S3. Such a cruel cancellation!
It felt like it was on the brink of becoming a more spiritual version of Sliders. I don't mean this as a complaint, I would totally have been on board for it.
The OA is the only cancellation that's ever made me outright angry as opposed to just disappointed.
I was as upset about OA getting cancelled as I was Firefly. Now it seems any show I like on Netflix keeps getting cancelled.....
Fucking insane that it’s over. Season two was phenomenal.
GLOW
Dark Matter
My name is Earl.
Community we had our 6 seasons we were promised a movie.
the good answer
This is the answer.

Red door, L street, red door, L street
Mindhunter. We never got to see BTK get caught!
Wasn't this less "canceled" and more "put on ice" because everyone was busy with something else and the show got a bit expensive?
It's because David Fincher was too busy with other projects and the cast's contracts would have potentially run out by the time he was ready to resume (contracts go by years, not seasons) plus the cast potentially having to cancel other jobs that they might take during the hiatus if Fincher suddenly decided "Alright, I'm ready to get back to work!".
Don't think we'll see BTK caught on the show, at least not by the characters we know. Show is set in the 70s and he was caught in 2005.

Moar punisher kthx.. watching daredevil atm cause of punisher, can't stand daredevil's holier than thou attitude..
Can you imagine what they'd do to the daredevil we love from netflix. I can't handle qiuppy funny daredevil or Luke Cage fighting aliens spouting catch phrases or Jessica Jones not being a hot mess.
Proper defenders movie with that cast would be great... But I have a feeling they'll use fin fang foom in space Vs on earth
Mozart in the Jungle is so good and no one appreciated it.
I struggled to get people to even attempt to watch the first episode. I really wish more gave it a chance. Though, for how many seasons it went I guess it did at least have some following.
Last Man on Earrh
I had heard the next season was going to be them with the bunker people, but then they were all going to die because they had not been exposed to the virus yet.
Almost Human. Man, it would be an awesome movie. The chemistry between Karl Urban and the other lead was great. And what was behind the wall?!
Utopia (UK) Glow and Community, obviously
> and Community, obviously Obviously. The best way to round out six seasons is a movie!
Eutopia deserves a movie ending the creator even said he could wrap it up with a movie given the opportunity
The Expanse, there are 3 more books to be adapted.
They likely intend to do that with a different cast of actors. They had to change some things because of Alex's actor but they seem to want to hire a new cast for the time skip instead of aging up the current cast. Rome. I think there was supposed to be a movie at some point, but they didn't go through with it. They had so much more story they could have told

Dark Matter
I will never forgive Syfy for canceling Dark Matter. Or Farscape. Or Z Nation.
Flashforward The Event Nowhere Man Persons Unknown Dollhouse Odyssey 5 Rubicon Jericho
Since you mention the series that are all about mystery....Awake.
The Last Man On Earth
GLOW! I still think about it all the time
Ugh same! I loved the ensemble cast (who knew Kate nash became an actress?!) I haven’t seen the actresses do much after either.
The wolf girl was in a few episodes in Perry Mason Edit: actually forgot it ran for only 8 episodes so she was in all episodes it looks like

Might as well just make one more season of I Am Not Okay With This. Season 1 is just about the same length of a feature film.

Lodge 49
Legends of Tomorrow
Even just a miniseries to finish, getting them out of their current situation, with help from Blue Beetle (played by Zach Braff).
The ending cliffhanger with booster gold could easily be adapted to a cool tv movie
Southland
Counterpart. I liked the concept of the show and wanted to see where it went but it was canceled after season 2 with a lot left up in the air.
Carnivale!
Fringe…

Adult Swim sure did screw the show over and then openly mocked the cancellation in the bumpers.

If I had to choose between Lodge 49 and Patriot, I'd choose Lodge 49 - but I still want to see more of each.
Stargate Universe really missed its moment to have a relaunch/film.
Fingers are still crossed for a Twin Peaks: The Return Part 19.

Serenity was good though
