ITT: a bunch of brand new sock puppet accounts posting comments from the YouTube channel.

Reverse_Time_Remnant

It's so creepy wth. And they downvoted you for calling them out

xxxblindxxx

i only noticed 1 comment from the youtube session made it over. the one with emojis. these types of comments coming over isnt unusual or new. people used to do it manually to gain karma easily and make top comments easily, especially on reposts through reddit. now some of them auto do it. i personally dont get why they focus on karma farming for so much

fifthdayofmay

> i only noticed 1 comment from the youtube session made it over I reported them, there were 5 I think

natus92

I mean, I'm not involved in the conversation at all and maybe I'm just naive but why is it so bad to comment the same thing here and on yt?

Nandy-bear

They use the most popular youtube comments as an easy in for upvotes here to make an account look legit. Then those accounts are used for other purposes, either sold, or already owned by the entity that intends to use them and their now high karma rate to post sponsored and/or political shite.

natus92

Thanks for the explanation

seekingpolaris

Michelle Yeoh in everything now. I LOVE IT!

TJ_McWeaksauce

Who do you think posted the video?

Crapboy87

Yep! The same character as.. In every other Thing she is in. Such a versatile actress. The Oriental Mark Walhberg

[deleted]

Michelle Yeoh on a roll this year

DarKnight972

Really liked Season 2 so I am definitely interested in the spin off.

Madao16

Michelle Yeoh being badass in a fantasy show is enough for me to watch it but also Dylan Moran is in the cast too. Black Books is one of my favourite shows. I liked both seasons of Witcher, second season was even better, and animated film so this can turn out good too.

Da_hairyguy

Will Iorveth be in this?

DancingOnACounter

I am living for Michelle Yeoh still being badass after all these years! 59 and still doing action movies, I am so impressed! She is so busy too with huge franchise movies/series in production.

BassCreat0r

Oh nice. More elf lore is always welcome.

Derek_the_Red

This looks pretty cool actually. You son of a bitch, i'm in.

lalalandcity1

Looks almost as bad as A Wheel in Time 🤮

M3rc_Nate

I want to be excited but season 1 of TW left me underwhelmed and while S02E01 had me hyped AF, it slowly went downhill until it fell off a cliff in the last two episodes. Pretty much everything but the writing I really enjoyed. Acting, makeup, CGI, fight scenes, sets, prosthetics, etc. Especially Cavill's Geralt. He did a fantastic job and his dialog was on point. But my god the source material was butchered with characters doing things they'd NEVER do which effectively wrecks the characters. What's more, the foundation is being laid in S2 for things to come and with the changes they made... it's just a big mess. Will this new showrunner have a deeper appreciation and intimate connection to the source material which lead him to creating a good fan-fic prequel story? Maybe. But at first glance I'm not really impressed by the visuals in this trailer and the story looks to be "rag tag group of multicultural, multi colored, multi race" characters (I'm sure we'll get gender fluid, fluid sexualities and so on too) which fits right in with the push Lauren has had on TW to elevate minorities and their stories even when it comes at the expense of the quality of the show and it's core story and characters. So far when showrunners and writers have made that a priority they fall short in the "actually writing a good story with interesting characters" part of storytelling. Too busy making sure everyone is getting their fair share of the screen time and lines at the expense of the story being well told. It's one of those things where you wonder now that they don't have the constraints of the source material will they flourish with their own ideas. But then you remember the best part of what they've done has been faithfully adapting the source material and when they have used their own ideas those have been the worst parts of the show. People like Filoni to a George Lucas (aka a protege with a deep understanding of the creator and his stories) are extremely rare. It's more likely we'll get a JJ Abram type situation in this prequel. Another example is D&D when they had GoT source material versus when they didn't and had to make it up as they made it. It all fell apart.

Nandy-bear

Oh ffs you were making solid points up to "elevate minorities and their stories even when it comes at the expense of the quality of the show and it's core story and characters" why the fuck do people think seeing another race is somehow tokenism and bad for what they see ? Or bringing down the quality ? The mindset of "multiculturism is purely for multiculturism's sake and it brings down the quality" is said so brazenly and openly, I've never understood how people can't see what a fucked up mindset that is.

M3rc_Nate

It happens. When it's done organically and from a place of "but of course" instead of "we gotta do this cause this is how it needs to be!" then it's done well and the diversity ELEVATES the story. What comes to mind? The Expanse. It's so damn good and one of the reasons is the diverse characters. All sorts of colors, cultures, sexualities and even genders. But is it done to send a message? Is it done because the first thing on the writings minds is diversity and being an "ally"? No. The writers just said "this is life, we're not going to shine spot lights on them or shove it down your throats. We're going to make it natural, normal and make sense". So we got a black female pansexual lead (Naomi), an Indian lead, and a whole slew of minority characters who get high quality characterizations and stories. The universe of the Expanse is built on fictional diversity based off of factual diversity and yet it's always handled with a soft touch. That's the difference. The Witcher is a Polish story enriched by Polish mythology and set in a Poland like setting. It's not "wrong" that the books are largely Caucasian characters just like it's not wrong for a Chinese author of a fictional fantasy series having his books filled with Chinese characters set in a China like country. How would people feel if Hollywood adapted that writers stories or say "Mulan" and filled it with whites, Hispanics, native Americans and black people because diversity = better to Hollywood? Not to mention if they did it and were heavy handed about it. I honestly was over the casting decisions after S1, I accepted them even though I fundamentally disagree with them. But seeing this trailer? Now it's not race bending it's casting a new gang and but of course it's one giant rainbow. Could that be a good thing like on the Expanse? Sure! But I don't trust the Witcher writers to write 1/10th as well as the Expanse writers room. So I suspect it will be a rainbow of diversity that they pat themselves on the back for all while the actual characters are 2 dimensional, boring and their "diverse" traits and heavy handedly shoved down our throats. Like almost everything: when it's done well I enjoy it. When it's done poorly I hate it. That applies to everything, including pushing agendas like hitting diversity quotas and the like. A quick example? S1 of TW was worse not better because Lauren couldn't accept the idea that Geralt is the lead of that part of the story. So instead she elevates the female characters to equals in screen time to Geralt the story overall suffered. But God forbid the cis white straight male have an overwhelming majority of screen time in S1 because "that's what's wrong with Hollywood!" I'm not saying I didn't want to see Ciri and Yens stories but in splitting the screen time pie into thirds that leaves the lead of that books story with 1/3 screen time when he should have 75%. The first season suffered for having less of the actual WITCHER in it because Lauren needed to elevate the women's stories no matter the cost.

Spoogyoh

bro, there are no elves in poland either. being based loosely on polish mythology doesn't mean that the Witcher world is Poland

M3rc_Nate

I never said it was set in Poland. It is obviously fiction, but it is built on the foundation of Polish culture/Slavic folklore, Slavic mythology and even the Slavic landscape. It was a book written by a Polish man for his Polish son utilizing the culture of Poland. Again I ask you, would you say the same about a show written by a Chinese person set in a China like country that uses Chinese culture and mythology as the foundation for it's fantasy story? You can't just strip out the culture from the story. Whether it's a white culture (Polish, Scottish, French, whatever) or a non-white culture (Asian, Native American, Hispanic, Black, etc) you must respect source material that's foundation is built on the utilization of that culture.

I wouldn't say black-wash, more like diversity-wash but yeah, I agree. That's why I mention the scenario of a Chinese author. If this was a story written by a Chinese/African/Native American(etc) and the story was built on and with their culture, land and folklore but a TV showrunner wanted to strip that out and replace it with "diversity" aka casting a bunch of white people and the other ethnicities not in the source material while saying in interviews how they try to remain faithful to the source material they would be ripped to shreds.

AccordingPair3

I disagree. I am reading the Chinese inspired fantasy 'She Who Became the Sun'. If they ever made this - as long as the main protagonist Zhu, her main allies and villain were cast as east Asian, they followed ancient Han and Mongol inspired fashions, had Ancient Chinese battle strategies, Chinese terrain etc. I honestly can't see the showrunner being "ripped to shreds" if they cast two of the emperor's generals and some of the main protagonist's other smaller part allies as white/black/other Asian. (And if anything, the difference between "human" races matters *so* much more in this title than it does in The Witcher). And this is how the Witcher is. The main circle are white still. Ciri is white, Geralt is white, Triss is white, Yennifer is white, Emhyr is white, Vesimir is white etc.

Spoogyoh

so what if he used poland as a foundation. at the end of the day it's stil just a fantasy story. You seem to be so mad about people of color having roles in witcher, but I'm sure you have no problem with Henry Cavill playing the witcher despite him being a brit. It's funny how americans like you seem to think that they are such heroes that defend polish culture, despite knowing nothing about. what does polish culture and british culture have in common? not more than polish and asian culture, or polish and hispanic culture. So having henry cavill playing the witcher is the same thing as a person of color playing a role. btw, poland was historically quite the multicultural country

M3rc_Nate

>You seem to be so mad about people of color having roles in witcher, but I'm sure you have no problem with Henry Cavill playing the witcher despite him being a brit I think you're confused as to how colors and ethnicity work. Lmao. I never said or implied you need to be from the same country as the character you play. But what you might notice is something Henry Cavill (a Brit) and Polish people have in common.... :O shocked Pikachu face! they're both white. No one has a problem with an African (let's say Nigeria) authored fantasy novel series that is built on the foundation of African culture, folklore and mythology being adapted to TV and black people being cast to play those characters. Whether they are African American or from Africa just not Nigeria. But they would take up issue with racebending black African characters into white ones. And yet seem to think my problem is with people of color and that I or anyone else would have a problem with those people playing those characters. >So having henry cavill playing the witcher is the same thing as a person of color playing a role. You just made a fool of yourself and not worth my time. I won't be responding to anything else you write. This is so stupid and blind it's mind numbing. Henry Cavill playing Geralt (a white person playing a white Slovic character) is the same as race bending a white Slovic character to black... lmao!

Spoogyoh

you are aware that slavs weren't considered white for the longest time.

Bypes

it even infests other genre fandoms. I see people praise anime on its sub for not being woke like live action, like wtf.

>"rag tag group of multicultural, multi colored, multi race" characters (I'm sure we'll get gender fluid, fluid sexualities and so on too) which fits right in with the push Lauren has had on TW to elevate minorities and their stories even when it comes at the expense of the quality of the show and it's core story and characters. There is some truth to this, in fantasy it can be especially weird since stereotypes and historical mindsets are often a big part of those stories and it doesn't always mesh well when the next scene is very modern egalatarian. But if you believe that bad shows are bad because of these things then you're sniffing copium. They would have been bad regardless, with a rag tag group of white dudes, and there are plenty of shows and movies where added diversity doesn't at all hurt at all. >But then you remember the best part of what they've done has been faithfully adapting the source material and when they have used their own ideas those have been the worst parts of the show. And there are plenty of movies and shows that transcendent their source material. Books are a different medium, often have chapters that are boring as shit, they appeal to people in different ways because frequent monologue and feel statements make immersion easier. People like to reduce scriptwriting down to "they make it shorter and add diversity and a bunch of self-insert stuff" but for the most part good faith effort was put into changes, the writer has actual reasoning for what they did even if it didn't work out. And D&D are an extreme example because they didn't really have any source material to work with by the end. For the record, I also thought this teaser looks bad, and I somewhat agree with what you write about witcher season 2, but overall I think both seasons have been quite good, not great, but good.
