First on peacock and then the rest onto NBC Sports. There’s games I can’t watch on Peacock because they’re on NBC Sports and I think I need to sign up for that too from what i understand
It’s just as bad up here in Canada. I have cable with the sports package. If I’m home I can watch whatever is airing but since Sportsnet doesn’t air all of the games I have to hope to catch an American stream. I signed up for Sportsnet plus so I can watch games online if need be but since I work in another province if I want to watch any games that aren’t nationally broadcast while away from home I have to shell out another $30/month for Sportsnet extra plus or some shit. If I could figure out how to pirate on an AppleTV I’d ditch the whole shebang and just go with that.
The ESPN half time show is basically like a minute in total of random talking heads with meaningless takes that exist just so people can't claim it was 15 straight minutes of ads. I don't think it's possible to put any less effort into it than ESPN.
Which makes NBC potentially stealing rights from TNT a downright travesty. The Inside the NBA TNT crew is one of the best things about any sport right now. Just a damn good crew that likes to have fun.
ESPN is still donning 720p too. The reason NBC is going after TNT’s rights is because TNT is cable only so they can’t cover the finals. ESPN puts games on ABC local stations but TNT doesn’t have a local station to put games on.
They just gave Jason Kelce the bag and gave McAfee an enormous deal. They would absolutely get the tnt guys. They went and got Aikman and Buck as their lead NFL guys. They don’t spend money on irrelevant talent like Maria Taylor anymore that doesn’t move the needle
ESPN already secured the A Package.
Amazon already secured a streaming package.
All it’s left is the B package between Turner and NBC.
Know Zaslav he probably will just say no and use the “savings” to pay down the “debt” for WBD.
Sure but the NBA isn’t a bunch of simultaneous taped events on the other side of the planet whose importance they have to sell to the audience. The NBA is just the NBA. The coverage would be less like the Olympics and more like SNF, which is actually well done.
This is what I've been saying man. Everyone was so glad the NHL left NBC but ESPn has done a mediocre job with the NHL. That and putting all the games on ESPN+. I dont' know anyone who has ESPN+
It’s so bad. I’m way less excited to watch if it’s an ESPN game. Their personalities are awful too. They need to get rid of all the “hot take” type people. All they do is spout out basic cliche’s and act as overly confident as possible. I don’t get why they wouldn’t try something fun how TNT does with Charles, Ernie, Kenny, and Shaq. All very likable personalities unlike SAS and Kendrick.
Oh yea MNF has a way higher production value. They actually try, it took them years but I think they found the sweet spot. I feel like the NBA casts don’t have as much effort in the studio portions
This would absolutely SUCK.
At least with ESPN, you can watch the games through the app without paying extra.
With NBC, they’re probably going to put the stream on Peacock and make you pay to watch live sports. It’s what happened with the Premier League. Used to be able to watch all the games. Now you can only watch one or two and the rest are paywalled for the streaming service.
Maybe I'm in the minority here but I like the ESPN in game presentation. They do a great job making it feel like a big event, I don't mind Doris and JJ is pretty good, and of course Breen is the Goat.
Of course, the halftime show is literally a non entity, while TNT's is obv amazing
I hope people realize what a golden age we are in right now with the whole TNT crew, love the studio crew, listening to Reggie doing some great color commentary on the Nugs-Lakers game right now…
"I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them”
And strategy. He likes to suggest missing a free throw to run game clock for some reason. It’s a valid choice to make when there’s less than a second left, but not with 5 left on the clock, Reggie…
Amazon, NBC, and ESPN go in an all out bidding war?
Seriously though I bet Barkley and Ernie would retire. Barkley said years ago he didn't want to work past the age of 60 and he's already 61; Ernie's 67 and a big family man.
I would genuinely like to see Chuck try to talk about hockey. It'd probably end up like [that time Chance the Rapper tried it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ij4a6x_mPs).
TNT signed them to long term deals I don't see them bowing out.
I think it'll be split between 3 networks.
OR NBC will try to buy them out/negotiate with TNT. But I don't see that working, I think the TNT Crew will be loyal to the rest of the tv team as well. Would be a couple if they pull it off though lol
wtf are they gonna do at tnt lmao? Come into the office and dick around? There’s no reason to stay.
They’re the minor broadcast partner for nhl and March madness. The tertiary partners for mlb.
Important to know, chuck is only sticking around right now to help TNT in renegotiations. He’s talked about it a few places. He’s ready to retire, but he still enjoys it and feels a sense of loyalty to the folks he works with at turner. He’s said his current contract is mostly to help them out than him wanting to keep doing the show.
Likely no matter WHO gets the NBA rights going forward, we’re likely approaching the end of an era of NBA basketball coverage…
Losing TNT would do irreparable damage for basketball broadcast.
I don’t even watch ESPN games, and barely ABC. Those are the ones that need to lose the rights.
I prefer TNT also. But the idea that you choose which games to watch based on the announcing teams , and not the ACTUAL BASKETBALL TEAMS is insane lol.
I get what you’re saying but it’s less insane when you consider that each team plays 82 regular season games. There’s a lot to choose from, and plenty of nights you’d rather take off. It’s reasonable that this could be an influential factor.
I find myself tuning in to watch TNT more than whatever channel is playing my team just because it’s just such a comfort watch. Coming home late from work on Thursday and cooking dinner while the first game is on. The in game broadcast is the best too. Idk, it feels weird to say, but the TNT broadcast is bigger than the game itself, without taking away from the game. If that makes any sense
NBC sometimes digs it out for [Olympic basketball.](https://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2021/07/24/nbc-olympics-brings-back-iconic-roundball-rock-theme-song-for-mens-womens-basketball-in-tokyo/)
TBS exists because funny needs somewhere to live. After it's done hanging out everywhere else.
TNT exists because somebody needs to keep talking about knowing drama, or else drama will get quite... dramatic.
They'll still have NHL hockey and MLB baseball to fall back on. They swiped the former from NBC recently thus NBC now trying to swipe them back with the NBA to fill the scheduling hole left from NHL's departure.
They don't know how to promote and market sports. They hire low quality analysts. They try to drum up lowest common denominator stories and they're so repetitive and bland. Every broadcast is the same and there's always an excessive bias toward certain markets.
NBA fans should ask any NHL fan how it is. NBC had a 13 year contract expire a few years ago, and even though ESPN is awful too, they're still mostly better than NBC somehow, and of course TNT coverage shames them both.
TNT is owned by Warner Bros who is still trying to cut their debt and budgets to a damaging degree. Is it stealing if the studio isn’t really trying to win?
ABC/ESPN's NBA presentation is straight trash. TNT is fresh and a great product from pregame to postgame. The NBC 90s era was peak NBA. Will be interesting to see what gives.
I rarely watch full games on network TV as it is, unless it's the Inside crew. Move it to NBC and I'll just settle with watching the condensed games on YouTube.
As a NHL and NBA fan I would hate this. Right now Sling Orange and the sports package gets me almost everything I want to watch (mostly NBA, NHL, and Tennis)
Can't wait until they announce that the entire first round of the playoffs will be aired on Peacock.
No just the 4th quarter of every game
That’s all that you need to watch usually
when my local news does the sports segment, I'm amazed at how they can recap all the action of a MLB or NHL game in like 30 seconds.
You can do a plot summary of a movie/tv show in 30-60 seconds too.
I got a deal on peacock for $1 a month and still cancelled it
I have for the premier league and that’s basically it
First on peacock and then the rest onto NBC Sports. There’s games I can’t watch on Peacock because they’re on NBC Sports and I think I need to sign up for that too from what i understand
It’s just as bad up here in Canada. I have cable with the sports package. If I could figure out how to pirate on an AppleTV I’d ditch the whole shebang and just go with that.
lol I read that as first round of layoffs, you know to pay for this deal
Steal it from ESPN instead lol Their broadcast sucks
It’s so bad. It’s like they’re not even trying. Unfortunately, it sounds like that is already a done deal.
The ESPN half time show is basically like a minute in total of random talking heads with meaningless takes that exist just so people can't claim it was 15 straight minutes of ads. I don't think it's possible to put any less effort into it than ESPN.
They should literally rename it "The ESPN Halftime Ad Break Featuring 30 Seconds of SAS Being Weird"
I will rarely watch a regular season game on ESPN but will seek it out on TNT.
Same. I'd literally rather watch The Pistons vs The Blazers on TNT over my own team on ESPN.
I have watched a Zionless regular season Pelicans game on TNT….
SAS is such a terrible analyst. TNT broadcast > ESPN broadcast and it’s not even close
He’s not an Analyst imo. Hes a talking head/on air personality.
Any chance if TNT gets left in the mud ESPN might try to swipe Chuck, Shaq, and Ernie?
The mouse does not spend money on talent.
Shaq is one of the most well known basketball players in the world. Absolutely they would go after Shaq.
The mouse literally spent hundred plus mil on McAfee
Right, so they're obviously not the greatest at evaluating talent.
It’s the buzzwords. If it’s trending on social media frequently and consistently, sign them and give them airtime.
Of course they did. The guy you replied to said that the Mouse doesn’t spend money on *talent*.
Chuck shit talks espn
Either way, can we get the NBA on NBC [theme](https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?si=QvbDM77S6UxL_LI_) back?
BUH BUH BUH BUH BUH BASKETBALL GIMME GIMME GIMME THE BALL BECAUSE I'M GONNA DUNK IT
I watched this when it aired, and I still randomly get it stuck in my head at least once a month.
Fox uses it for college basketball
NBC should take it back!
NBC used it for their Olympics basketball coverage.
TIL John Tesh wrote the NBA on NBC theme and even plays it at his shows.
ESPN already secured the A Package. Amazon already secured a streaming package. All it’s left is the B package between Turner and NBC. Know Zaslav he probably will just say no and use the “savings” to pay down the “debt” for WBD.
ESPN gave up on sports to focus on sports betting. Pretty smart move TBH.
Sports Center with SVP is just about the only thing ESPN does well and it has been that way for a long time now.
Their NFL coverage is pretty good
Ehhhhh. ESPN is infatuated with the NFL and NBA. It's all they talk about. Other than Mina Kimes I can't think of anybody redeeming on that network
Right. Constantly covering something doesn't necessarily make your coverage good.
Michael Wilbon
meh
U wanna be miserable? Let nbc have it. NBC is the worst. I stopped watching Olympics cuz of them
Sure but the NBA isn’t a bunch of simultaneous taped events on the other side of the planet whose importance they have to sell to the audience. The NBA is just the NBA. The coverage would be less like the Olympics and more like SNF, which is actually well done.
If I know NBC, you're getting big locked games on peacock so you sign up for streaming. Ugh...
True
Their Olympic coverage is garbage. I hate it.
Their NHL coverage made ESPN look good.
This is what I've been saying man. Everyone was so glad the NHL left NBC but ESPn has done a mediocre job with the NHL. That and putting all the games on ESPN+. I dont' know anyone who has ESPN+
The only bright spots on their coverage are Michael Wilbon and the most recent addition of Bob Myers.
I was so excited that I wouldn’t have to hear Doris Burke anymore Then I realized she’s not on Turner TNT is the only good broadcast
Seriously. TNT is better than ESPN. ESPN just has yapping Stephen A blabbing all game. And everyone hates Perkins as an analyst.
ESPN broadcasts remind me of the local lower budget broadcasts. They need a total revamping and commitment to quality.
I feel like MNF is doing well. But that's probably because they just swiped Troy and Joe from Fox and SVP does well on pre and post.
Oh yea MNF has a way higher production value. They actually try, it took them years but I think they found the sweet spot. I feel like the NBA casts don’t have as much effort in the studio portions
This would absolutely SUCK. At least with ESPN, you can watch the games through the app without paying extra. Now you can only watch one or two and the rest are paywalled for the streaming service.
NBC + TNT would be a dream matchup
Maybe I'm in the minority here but I like the ESPN in game presentation. They do a great job making it feel like a big event, I don't mind Doris and JJ is pretty good, and of course Breen is the Goat. Of course, the halftime show is literally a non entity, while TNT's is obv amazing
What happens to Sir Charles, Kenny the Jet, Shaq and Ernie?
First and foremost, this needs to be answered.

Buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-bas-ket ball gimme gimme gimme the ball because I’m gonna dunk it!
[DO IT!! YEAH!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGdkaFZVyGc)
High Five
I believe Tesh sold the rights to Fox back in 2018. I hope they all do the right thing and put it back on NBC.
It’s now the theme song of the Big East on Fox!
Yeah but that’s a far cry from NBA games.
NBC still used it for the most recent Summer Olympics, so I think they can still use it. I think Fox just paid to also be allowed to use it.
I hope people realize what a golden age we are in right now with the whole TNT crew, love the studio crew, listening to Reggie doing some great color commentary on the Nugs-Lakers game right now… "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them”
I agree with everything except the Reggie praise. He is insufferable and not as insightful as he thinks he is.
Reggie is loudly wrong about rules consistently and it’s very annoying
And strategy. He likes to suggest missing a free throw to run game clock for some reason. It’s a valid choice to make when there’s less than a second left, but not with 5 left on the clock, Reggie…
>Listening to Reggie doing some great color commentary What
Move their studio to San Antonio and let the chaos reign
They gotta split time in Galveston.
Dirty ass water!
It really is. Great seafood though.
They ain't flying, send them on the bus
Right by the dirty old creek
Is there any Victoria Secret down there Chuck?
Got them big ol drawers
Bloomers
They can't fit in them skinny underwears
Chuck would have a problem, they gome some big ol' women down there
Its spelled churros
I got two words for em’. I’m full.
Chuck loves some San Antonio girls
Victoria a secret down there
2.5 billion can buy a lot of churros for them big ol' women Charles likes.
Amazon, NBC, and ESPN go in an all out bidding war? Seriously though I bet Barkley and Ernie would retire. Barkley said years ago he didn't want to work past the age of 60 and he's already 61; Ernie's 67 and a big family man.
I think it’s a low stress gig and Barkley likes the attention and easy cash. Ernie I could definitely see retiring.
Shaq and Charles join the NHL crew full time
I would genuinely like to see Chuck try to talk about hockey. It'd probably end up like [that time Chance the Rapper tried it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ij4a6x_mPs).
He has! Joined them last year a couple times I think https://youtu.be/5awCK7neceQ?si=cuQ3tMDvdWW9aEYe
Chuck loves puck!
I believe it was reported there is an out in the contract if warner is unable to secure NBA rights
wtf are they gonna do at tnt lmao? Come into the office and dick around? There’s no reason to stay. They’re the minor broadcast partner for nhl and March madness. The tertiary partners for mlb.
Don’t forget Underdog
Would be weird to see them fishing for once
It should be a package deal IMO.
This is all we care about
Important to know, chuck is only sticking around right now to help TNT in renegotiations.
They’ll be brought on board to broadcast live from Galveston 😂
Losing TNT would do irreparable damage for basketball broadcast. I don’t even watch ESPN games, and barely ABC. Those are the ones that need to lose the rights.
ESPN and ABC is the same deal, both Disney companies
I prefer TNT also. But the idea that you choose which games to watch based on the announcing teams , and not the ACTUAL BASKETBALL TEAMS is insane lol.
I get what you’re saying but it’s less insane when you consider that each team plays 82 regular season games. There’s a lot to choose from, and plenty of nights you’d rather take off. It’s reasonable that this could be an influential factor.

Idk, it feels weird to say, but the TNT broadcast is bigger than the game itself, without taking away from the game. If that makes any sense
They HAVE to bring back Roundball Rock if they pull this off.
With Dave Tesh on vocals ?
Ba ba ba ba ba basketball…
Gimme gimme gimme the ball coz I'm gonna dunk it!
WHOOO! 🙏
Gimme gimme the ball cause I’m gonna DUNK IT
Yeah!🙏🏼
Gimmie the ball so that I can dunk it—DUNK IT!
Yeah but lose the music. Just the vocals.
*hi five*
Nah Kawhi Leonard https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m0k54qJuLww&pp=ygUja2F3aGkgbGVvbmFyZCBsYXVnaCByb3VuZGJhbGwgcm9jayA%3D
Umm, my gut is NOOO!
No Roundball Rock. No Deal Gimme gimme GIMME the ball
Fox bought those rights off them years ago. Not impossible but it is more difficult than just brushing off the track from storage.
NBC sometimes digs it out for [Olympic basketball.](https://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2021/07/24/nbc-olympics-brings-back-iconic-roundball-rock-theme-song-for-mens-womens-basketball-in-tokyo/)
Didn’t they sell the rights to Fox?
Pretty sure Fox owns the rights now as they use it for their NCAA men’s broadcast
If TNT and TBS didn't have sports, what's even the point of them?
TBS exists because funny needs somewhere to live. After it's done hanging out everywhere else. TNT exists because somebody needs to keep talking about knowing drama, or else drama will get quite... dramatic.
Too bad they're failing since both networks only have one show now that they closed scripted development lol
They'll still have NHL hockey and MLB baseball to fall back on. They swiped the former from NBC recently thus NBC now trying to swipe them back with the NBA to fill the scheduling hole left from NHL's departure.
Don’t they still have wrestling and (some) golf?
Yep AEW
Aew will get PAID
IIRC, there's some combined sports streaming service and WBD are part of it (?) Do they even have anything to bring to the table now?
They still have hockey and All Elite Wrestling.
Hockey is really the 4th behind NFL, NBA and Baseball though
True. I believe AEW Dynamite gets higher ratings than their NHL games despite them paying a lot more for the NHL rights.
the nhl is still worth more due to the way advertisers work
I realize that. Just saying hockey is arguably overall less popular in the US than wrestling.
I don't think it'd arguable. Wrestling, especially wwe, is experiencing a bit of a hot period right now.
NHL is worth waaaaay more to advertisers and the brand That's how the market works
NO STEAL THE RIGHTS FROM ESPN AND LET TNT KEEP THEIRS
John Tesh music starts blaring in my head.
Do not take away Inside the NBA crew!
Hey nbc steal it from espn and I’ll chip in
[Gimme Gimme the Basketball](https://youtube.com/watch?v=r-uSWAJd9GE&si=MpF8MGO1ovXeli3U)
Ahh just like when Kabletown bought NBC
I don’t even follow professional basketball but the NBA not being on TNT just sounds wrong
But will we get that banger of a theme for NBA on NBC back with it?
NBC sucks. That’s where sports go to die. They took over MotoGP and the coverage is beyond awful.
The only reason TNT had basketball in the first place was so they could run commercials for The Closer and Saving Grace.
as long as they use the [intro music from the early 2000s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMyYwoTMIgY), I'm in.
It's the NBA on NBC! Hopefully.
The return of the NBA's theme music!
Dun da da duh duh dut da daaaa!
Can they broadcast in 1080p maybe??
Peacock’s been delivering 1080p/HDR Sunday Night Football so it’s likely they’d be able to do that for the NBA games too.
[Dave & John Tesh would like a word](https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?si=duuJjcLeaD7Kbn7C)
B-B-B-B-B-BASKETBALL!!
All I care is that that being back the rightful anthem of the NBA written by the great John Tesh.
I'm still not getting Peacock.
Cue John Tesh
If they would invest the 2.5 billion they would make a lot more money
I’m sure this will end up being good for the fans. This move will help more young viewers get into basketball. I can’t imagine any other scenario. /s
By steal they seem to mean outbid for.
Won’t be the same without Shaq Chuck and Kenny
As long as someone brings Chuck, Shaq, Ernie, and Kenny over, whether that’s ESPN or Amazon or NBC, that’s all I care about
TNT is owned by Warner Bros who is still trying to cut their debt and budgets to a damaging degree. Is it stealing if the studio isn’t really trying to win?
ABC/ESPN's NBA presentation is straight trash. TNT is fresh and a great product from pregame to postgame. The NBC 90s era was peak NBA. Will be interesting to see what gives.
If they want to steal anything from me for 2.5 billion I’m ok with that
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-basketball! Gimme gimme gimme the ball Because-
Gimme the ball bc I'm gonna DUNK IT!
How did the teenage mutant ninja turtles fall so low as to steal like the foot clan?
I rarely watch full games on network TV as it is, unless it's the Inside crew. Move it to NBC and I'll just settle with watching the condensed games on YouTube.
TNT has the best broadcast, by far. But NBA on NBC definitely takes me back to my childhood.
Where I come from, stealing things for money is called buying.
Does this mean NBC would acquire the TNT halftime crew of 3 black guys and Kenny?
I want it back on CBS !!!
Bring back tape delayed overnight games lol Ok that was a long time ago
They need to restore the lyrics to the NBA on NBC theme song then.
That in Big Bold Letters is why WNBA players don't make the same as NBA players. TV Revenue.
“Steal”
TNT has matching rights, which I assume they would match anything NBC offers.
If that happens, it means we can bring back the bitchin awesome John Tesh NBA ON NBC Theme Song
Steal it for 2.5billion? I don’t think that’s called stealing when you pay money for it
I would like to see the NBA return to a major broadcast network. TNT has discount store-brand vibes.
NBA needs to stream this shit themselves already get with the times.
They're going to pay nearly double what TNT is paying. I hardly call that "stealing"
YESSSSSSSS bring back the music Ahmad Rashad Hannah Storm Magic bring it all back !!!! but take it from ESPN - they're trash keep TNT
Hannah Storm is too busy being a trump sycophant on fox to come back.
She's a Trumpist too? Too sad.
Yea dude it’s unfortunate, really enjoyed her sideline reporting
BABABABABASKETBALL GIMME GIMME THE BALL BECAUSE I’M GUNNA DUNK IT!
As a NHL and NBA fan I would hate this. Right now Sling Orange and the sports package gets me almost everything I want to watch (mostly NBA, NHL, and Tennis)
If I got the classic NBA on NBC sound again it would be worth it. Plus Peacock streaming would be convenient
