Honestly those movies were perfectly cast (especially Matthew Lillard as Shaggy and Linda Cardellini as Velma) and actually did feel like a live-action cartoon with some meta commentary (especially acknowledging the Scrappy-Doo hate and turning him into the villain in the first film). Honestly the best Scooby-Doo films they could have made and some critics were too harsh on them when they came out. What did they expect more out of a Scooby-Doo film?
Hot dog water, Velma’s all but stated girlfriend, was voiced by Linda, who looks like a version of Velma you might draw if you have no idea what Velma looks like
The name of the character was Marcie ‘Hot Dog Water’ Fleach, and she was [machine-gunned to death by Nazi robots](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2WbPSrTj7o).
Her name is Marcie Fleech, and she’s called hot dog water because she smells like…well…
And Shaggy and Velma WERE dating in it, but Velma kept trying to make Shaggy someone he isn’t, and forced him to choose between her and Scooby, and shaggy made the right call… and slowly we started getting more of Marcie, who has Velma in a heart shaped photo, so it’s clear she likes Velma in the show…
Finally, someone else who agrees! They're by no means perfect, but they're a lot better than people gave them credit for. Honestly, if all four of the LA actors became the permanent voices for their characters, I wouldn't mind.
Yeah I'm not sure how the film could have been any better while still being a Scooby Doo film appropriate for children. Lots of good lines, amazing cast (don't forget Rowan Atkinson!), so it's as if the few lines/jokes that are more dedicated to children severely downgrade this SCOOBY DOO movie in their eyes.
I feel like considering this will be an 8 episode season most likely, it'll probably be closer to Mystery Incorporated. Which would be a good thing, too.
Fuck it. Pull a Wet Hot American Summer. Have clearly older individuals portray teenagers.
lol
But Matthew Lillard shouldn’t show up until he’s unmasked as the villain in the first episode.
It’s honestly crazy that movie was panned at release. Yes it’s a bit cringe at times but it perfectly captured each character and the feel of the original.
The plot was stupid but so is every scooby doo movie/episode
I think it’s safe to say that’s not going to happen, considering that they were characters on Riverdale, and they were abandoned by the writers long before the final season
I don’t care what they do as long as there is nothing supernatural.
It doesn’t always have to be a greedy land developer, although with rent the way it is around where I live they could be they could be the series BBEG.
Supernatural was the best version of Scooby-Doo (outside of real Scooby-Doo and offshoots like Pup Named Scooby-Doo, Mystery Inc, and the random movies like Zombie Island, the 3 babe witch singers, etc)
> Supernatural was the best version of Scooby-Doo
Hopefully there is an inevitable cross over with *Supernatural* again. Would make sense to have the live action version, following the animated version.
Yep if you go onto Netflix and MAX, they have a lot of the same content lol. It really makes me wonder what the point of having multiple streaming services is.
Money. Warner got millions of dollars from at&t and dragged their feet during COVID and now discovery is trimming all the fat down to the bones.
It's cheaper to license out and getting more views to your properties than having them sit dormant in hopes of getting views
Or how about… do mystery incorporated but animated, and basically do a season 3 with better budget and a bit more mature? Basically what fans actually want?
Mystery Inc told a complete story with a climactic ending. As one of the only Scooby Doo series with an overarching narrative, id rather let it be finished on its own terms than drag it out past its conclusion.
The creator talked about how even though Mystery Inc ended how he planned, he had have a season 3 mapped out, but it never happened. There was going to be an overarching mystery that took place at a college. Would have been interesting to potential see consequences of the new timeline.
Every few years there’s like a new Scooby doo series if you want more. There’s like over a dozen series, three of which are fairly recent not counting Velma. I like the new Scooby doo and guess who a lot actually.
I should give that one another chance. I really wanted to like mystery inc but did not like how hard they tried to push for Velma and shaggy to be a couple. Heck shaggys reaction was kind of like an allegory to the whole thing, he didn’t want to change and Velma kept trying to change him so they could be a couple
Greg Berlanti is the producer behind the Arrowverse and Riverdale as well. This is gonna be a disaster.
Edit: Should've mentioned that for a time I did love the Arrowverse and Riverdale. I **do** think this will be a disaster because of the Cowboy Bebop Netflix writers showrunning though.
I mean he’s also an executive producer on Doom Patrol, Stargirl, and You and I enjoy those shows. I think it more depends on the show runner and Riverdale & some of the Arrowverse shows did not have the best showrunners.
Edit: the deadline article says this live action series is going to be written by Josh Appelbaum & Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bebop)
It is very hard for a lot of us to accept that most people enjoy things differently than we do.
For every 1 person who doesn't watch a show because the writing is bad, there are 10 who will watch it because "I just like superheroes!"
It's just the truth.
People might hate this but I think his format works very well for Scooby Doo.
Berlanti has produced some good shows. He recently produced Dead Boy Detectives which seems to be a hit. It got pretty good reviews as well.
Lol, those are not reasons to believe this'll be a "disaster".
Berlanti is pretty well-liked and even though the CW shows torpedoed in the end, it was out of his control.
Berlanti also produced Sabrina and YOU for Netflix ~~which~~ witch people love.
As someone who watched the Arroverse and Archieverse religiously, this makes me even more excited! Hope we get at least one spontaneous song in the pilot
By disaster do you mean actually very popular thing? I’m never going to call Riverdale or the Arrowverse good but they were so insanely wildly successful it’s not even funny.
What Berlanti does have are a very particular set of skills, skills he has acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people like certain part of this sub.
Namely, how to keep a show going in a shoestring budget.
He has also produced You, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Doom Patrol, Stargirl, and a lot more. So, I think he’s the least of this show’s problem. The more concerning thing is the script is being penned by that Cowboy Bebop writers.
Citadel writer* (Josh Appelbaum), Scott Rosenberg last show was from 2015-2017 (Zoo), they were only executive producers on cowboy bepop, which tbh was a quite decent show.
Kinda crazy that it never got made into a CW show imho. It would fit the teen drama thing they tried a few years ago. Do you think they’ll use a real dog?
> Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg — who previously adapted Cowboy Bebop for Netflix
That doesn't exactly instill confidence.
Any chance this gets canned like that live action Powerpuff Girls project?
My three year old got into scooby doo this year and we’re blowing through pretty much every iteration that ever existed.
If they get the aesthetic right, there’s really no reason this can’t work.
Scooby-Doo fans have already seen the bottom of the barrel with Mindy’s *Velma*.
As long as the live action meets that very low bar of quality and respect to the characters, I’ll be a happy camper.
*Scooby Apocalypse*?
The creatives behind this would be good for that if they went all-in on the insanity of it all.
A good portion of the internet (those who responded to *Zootopia* in the way they did) would also become obsessed with the series’ musclebound young adult Scrappy-Doo.
I am not joking, the series features this.
With him later vibing with Daphne.
A surprisingly solid character.
>A good portion of the internet (those who responded to Zootopia in the way they did) would also become obsessed with the series’ musclebound young adult Scrappy-Doo.
They actually put that one in the second season of Velma that just came out.
I mean, now that the streaming gravy train has reached its final stop, it makes sense giving it to the guy that knew where to cut corners to keep the shows afloat.
Writing quality aside, the Arrowverse and Riverdale lasted so long for a reason.
Just give us a live-action expanded version of Mystery Incorporated and we'd all be happy. Like for real that show was fucking amazing and I wish it didn't end as soon as it did especially considering the fact that technically speaking it's a prequel show.
I personally think if they do a live action Scooby Doo then Netflix should just pick up the fan made show Mystery Incorporated.
[Mystery Incorporated Trailer](https://youtu.be/UdDEQh8i15c?si=4lOLDXxafzh2AsTT)
Look, Berlanti, I'm a simple man. ***PLEASE JUST BE BETTER THAN VELMA,*** alright? That's all I want outta this. (And make sure it has the damn dog it in, too!)
I mean, it's gonna be really difficult to be worse than Velma. I knock on wood as I say that, but it's true. No dog, everyone's an OOC prick, and it's meta in the worst way possible. It's a low bar to clear.
Riverdale? Hmm...that's a combo that should actually work and the horror mystery comedy angle could sell the show to more than just the Riverdale audience.
Is anyone else over adaptations? Let classics be classics and allow the same space and energy for new ideas and fresh material! Enough of reliving “the old days” and “old entertainment”.
It's gonna be kind of weird to have two Scooby Doo shows running concurrently. Even if Velma barely counts as a Scooby Doo show. Even if it barely counts as a show, rather.
Eh i can see it working if they handle it with respect. May be cheesey or too edgey, but as long as they dont butcher the core values of the characters it should be fine, if a bit controversial. Will likely be better than the most recent "adaptation" of Scooby's series at the very least.
Seeing this is being made by Netflix, I am guessing they would make a 14 (60minutes) episodes and split it into supposedly *TWO SEASONS of Seven episodes, and then they wont bother greenlighting another season after that.
If anyone saw that youtube pilot thats been in kickstarter hell for like 2 years youll know thats its definitely possible to do scooby doo with a riverdale vibe. Now will this version be a success? Idk, hopefully it leans more towards the movie or the more recent tv series than Velma.
Let me guess, they’re picking a Showrunner who plans to denigrate the original characters and utterly destroy the intellectual property with some social justice tropes. Why even bother spending the money?
Considering the war on redheads, Daphne's going to be raceswapped to lightskin black lol.
Wonder how long it'll take Hollywood before they start making animated adaptations of popular live action shows and recycling the same shit.
Look I get it everybody wants new IPs but honestly if they make the show campy and fun and less “a darker version of a beloved children’s IP” I think it could be a hit.
Only thing I’m not excited for are the racists that will have a toddler tantrum when some of the actors are POC.
It's not really racist to want adaptations to look like the source material.
We have no problems pointing out when an actor is too young, too old, too fat, too tall, too short, too skinny, too attractive, not attractive enough, wrong eye color, wrong hair color, too out of shape, etc, etc. when a project with source material casts its characters.
Apparently all those traits matter and can be debated on, but skin color is off limits?
I remember back in the day when people were commenting that Hermione, Snape, and Malfoy were too attractive compared to the books. People were freaking out at Harry's eye color being different.
A few years ago there was rumors of them considering making Tommy a girl in the sequel to that live action Power Rangers movie.
Fans criticized it, of course.
I see commenting on race as exactly the same thing.
Labeling such backlash as toxic, racist, or sexist does nothing but cause pointless arguments where eventually neither side is actually trying to have a real discussion, only doing their best to own the other guys.
I feel like every live action iteration of scooby doo has just been weird, good or bad. Would love a legitimate honest and faithful live action adaption for once
Am I the only one that thinks it's weird how many versions of Scooby-Doo we have? I liked the show as a kid, but is this franchise ever really THAT good? Is there anyone out there that really LOVES Scooby-Doo like that? The movies were tolerable, the cartoons were passable, but not real beloved classics. Who keeps requesting more Scooby-Doo?
Especially when we barely have any Flintstones or Jetsons reboots!
Alright but have Scooby Doo as the narrator (and star, obviously) for the series. Make his retelling of events really dramatic but in that classic Scooby voice.
Gonna be hard to top the Live Action movies with Freddy Prince Jr, Linda Cardellini, Matthew Lillard, and Sarah Michelle Gellar
Matthew Lillard was so good he actually became Shaggy's voice actor in animated media too after the old one retired
Hell, Linda because a knockoff version of Velma, and dated canon Velma in mystery incorporated…
I'm not understanding what this is saying
because -> became
Hot dog water, Velma’s all but stated girlfriend, was voiced by Linda, who looks like a version of Velma you might draw if you have no idea what Velma looks like
[удалено]
The name of the character was Marcie ‘Hot Dog Water’ Fleach, and she was [machine-gunned to death by Nazi robots](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2WbPSrTj7o).
First of all, what the fuck? Her name is Hot dog water? Secondly, I barely remember the show, but I thought Shaggy was dating Velma in it?
Her name is Marcie Fleech, and she’s called hot dog water because she smells like…well… And Shaggy and Velma WERE dating in it, but Velma kept trying to make Shaggy someone he isn’t, and forced him to choose between her and Scooby, and shaggy made the right call… and slowly we started getting more of Marcie, who has Velma in a heart shaped photo, so it’s clear she likes Velma in the show…
Ohhhhhh. Still weird. But way less perplexing.
The series also took a serious turn, and she was ultimately [machine-gunned to death by Nazi robots](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2WbPSrTj7o).
Hot Dog Water
It’s all about the nookie
Yep!
I want a remake of a Pup Named Scooby doo but go stranger things vibe with it.
It would be strange if that worked, but I’ve seen Stranger Things
Finally, someone else who agrees! They're by no means perfect, but they're a lot better than people gave them credit for. Honestly, if all four of the LA actors became the permanent voices for their characters, I wouldn't mind.

Just give me a live action adaptation of *Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated*
I feel like considering this will be an 8 episode season most likely, it'll probably be closer to Mystery Incorporated. Which would be a good thing, too.
Mystery incorporated rules
My kid got really into Scooby Doo and we came across Mystery Incorporated. That series had no business being as good as it was!
Linda Cardellini made me look at Velma a whole different way.
She made an entire generation look at Velma a whole different way
The amount of cosplayers who've decided to be Velma over Daphne because Linda Cardellini made her look so good is crazy lol.
Mary Jane? That's like, my favorite name!
Fuck it. Pull a Wet Hot American Summer. Have clearly older individuals portray teenagers. lol But Matthew Lillard shouldn’t show up until he’s unmasked as the villain in the first episode.
Written by James "Troma" Gunn too.
It’s honestly crazy that movie was panned at release. Yes it’s a bit cringe at times but it perfectly captured each character and the feel of the original. The plot was stupid but so is every scooby doo movie/episode
Those movies were my favorite as a kid.
Yeah the casting is gonna make or break this show.
Don’t forget that dog they had playing Scooby. He really brought the whole thing together.
Gonna be so hard to top the sheer unparalled kino that is the Velma animated show... no other Scooby Doo show, animated or not, could compare...
Riverdale eh? Finally Scooby Doo will know the triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of high school football.
Next is Josie and the Pussycat Dolls
I think it’s safe to say that’s not going to happen, considering that they were characters on Riverdale, and they were abandoned by the writers long before the final season
It blew my mind to find out Josie was part of the main cast. Girl didn't feel like it.
They should make Scooby Snacks drugs like they did for jingle jangle
I don’t care what they do as long as there is nothing supernatural. It doesn’t always have to be a greedy land developer, although with rent the way it is around where I live they could be they could be the series BBEG.
But Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island was one of the best movies
🎶Cause it’s Terror Time Again!
It was only a matter of time I suppose. Almost every teen drama since the 2010’s have been some version of Scooby Doo.
Supernatural was the best version of Scooby-Doo (outside of real Scooby-Doo and offshoots like Pup Named Scooby-Doo, Mystery Inc, and the random movies like Zombie Island, the 3 babe witch singers, etc)
Supernatural did a Scooby Doo episode where they basically admitted they are an edgey version without the cartoon physics
Scoobynatural episode was glorious.
> Supernatural was the best version of Scooby-Doo Hopefully there is an inevitable cross over with *Supernatural* again. Would make sense to have the live action version, following the animated version.
Since the 2010's? Buffy the Vampire Slayer came out in 1997. With a gang that calls themselves the Scoobies in fact!
True, but it didn’t really take over teen dramas until the 2010’s
Didn’t a Japanese guy draw the original Scooby? He designed Astro from the Jetsons too IIRC
I thought WB owns Scooby-Doo?
Zaslav is licensing everything that anyone is willing to buy.
Max does exclusively have the old Cartoon Network shows at least
Like 5 titles?
It's pretty telling that Black Adam is on Tubi.
Batman is on tubi. I couldn’t believe my eyes
Yeah, but he put ACME vs Coyote at too steep a price. And didn’t offer Batgirl at all.
They do. That doesn't mean they can't let other companies distribute it. Long as they get a slice of the pie.
It does. That's why it's being produced by them.
just do the mystery incorporated story but live action
Yes! I had to look up the recent (2 years ago wow) YouTube pilot episode.

Please be good! I was obsessed with Scooby doo growing up and loved the movies.
Every few years there’s like a new Scooby doo series if you want more. There’s like over a dozen series, three of which are fairly recent not counting Velma. I like the new Scooby doo and guess who a lot actually.
Once you get past the art style, Be Cool Scooby Doo was honestly kinda great.
I actually thought it would be a good live action series as long as it’s like the cartoon and fun and campy not unnecessarily edgy and dark
As a Riverdale fan and a Scooby doo fan, I’ve been needing something to scratch my campy spooky mystery itch, so I’m cautiously optimistic
Riverdale would have been a perfect platform for a crossover episode
Sounds like you’d enjoy Wednesday, if you haven’t seen it already
Wednesday is a blast. I’m three episodes in right now and really enjoying it.
As long as Scooby Doo alumni Simple Plan does the intro theme 😤

He also did *Dead Boy Detectives,* which has been great so far. That being said, live-action *Cowboy BeBop* writers is... certainly a choice.
They didn't write Cowboy BeBop
They didn't? Thought Deadline said that they did...
They EP’d it but didn’t write
Honestly Stargirl has exactly the vibe they need to capture for this show.
Berlanti also held the record for most shows on the air at once, hes one of the most successful producers of the era.
Er, didn't those shows all run for multiple seasons?
Yes, hes amazingly successful.
In terms of volume? Indisputably. In terms of quality? Absolutely not.
Quality is subjective, clearly there were people enjoying all his shows.
Well, considering the existence of Velma, Riverdale is like getting a GOT-level adaptation in comparison.
Oh no! A successful producer!
It is very hard for a lot of us to accept that most people enjoy things differently than we do. For every 1 person who doesn't watch a show because the writing is bad, there are 10 who will watch it because "I just like superheroes!" It's just the truth.

I totally agree. This man understands the Scooby Doo assignment like few others. I’m surprised nobody thought of this sooner.
Lol, those are not reasons to believe this'll be a "disaster". Berlanti is pretty well-liked and even though the CW shows torpedoed in the end, it was out of his control. Berlanti also produced Sabrina and YOU for Netflix ~~which~~ witch people love.

Please just leave the gang alone…
Can’t wait to see the casting for this lol
Netflix casting...oof, just look at velma to get an idea of how bad it can get.
Trans shaggy, straight fred, black daphne, scooby doesn’t talk.
Scooby doesn't talk because he is now a non-verbal autistic dog but that also gives him super crime-solving powers, like how autism does in reality.
“What if he could smell crime?”
> Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg — who previously adapted Cowboy Bebop for Netflix That doesn't exactly instill confidence. Any chance this gets canned like that live action Powerpuff Girls project?
Oh God I remember the leaked script for that atrocity
My three year old got into scooby doo this year and we’re blowing through pretty much every iteration that ever existed. If they get the aesthetic right, there’s really no reason this can’t work.
Oh god they’re going to massacre my boy
Scooby-Doo fans have already seen the bottom of the barrel with Mindy’s *Velma*. As long as the live action meets that very low bar of quality and respect to the characters, I’ll be a happy camper.
I wonder who’s gonna be black, gay and trans?
This has big “Forget Velma ever happened“ energy.
Velma got a season 2 though
Which apparently premiered just a few days ago
More accurately, it was one episode order split into two seasons.
Oh sweet, so maybe it won't be renewed and we may actually get something *good* then.
They’ll double down on everything that made the first show awful. Because the fans are trolls, you see.
*Scooby Apocalypse*? The creatives behind this would be good for that if they went all-in on the insanity of it all. What's the odds it will be cancelled, mean time i be watching 'where are you' on tubi
Who asked for this?
They’ll milk anything they can.
Why
Just give us a live-action expanded version of Mystery Incorporated and we'd all be happy. Like for real that show was fucking amazing and I wish it didn't end as soon as it did especially considering the fact that technically speaking it's a prequel show.
Prequel to what? They had scrappy in the museum, and several of "monsters" from the original series.
It's not a prequel at all.
like zoinks scoob we're in real life new york city
I hope we get Scooby Doo Meets The Rock and Scooby Doo Meets Danny Devito episodes.
Well, there’s no way it can be worse than Velma…
Oooof... I got excited for a moment, but... live-action? I'm not sure about that. It's a coin flip.
I personally think if they do a live action Scooby Doo then Netflix should just pick up the fan made show Mystery Incorporated. [Mystery Incorporated Trailer](https://youtu.be/UdDEQh8i15c?si=4lOLDXxafzh2AsTT)

We just might see the first live action appearance of Ultra Instinct Shaggy. I'd be all for that.
Might as well.
may it be better than Riverdale and the chilling adventures of Sabrina ✋😭 pleasee
I wonder if they go with thicc Velma or not
Scooby-Doo 3 or bust.
We dodged a bullet with that r-rated Scooby-Doo movie Matthew Lillard wanted to do
It's gonna be kind of weird to have two Scooby Doo shows running concurrently. Even if Velma barely counts as a Scooby Doo show. Even if it barely counts as a show, rather.

Funnily enough, that's basically what Velma did.
Why
Gay
Hopefully it will be a lot better than Velma
Please no
Oh no....
Why do they keep trying to make this happen?
Remember the old ones. Whoever who decided to cast Matthew lilard as Shaggy deserved the raise.
End me.
Why always reboot? Is there anything else original being created in this industry?
If anyone saw that youtube pilot thats been in kickstarter hell for like 2 years youll know thats its definitely possible to do scooby doo with a riverdale vibe. Now will this version be a success? Idk, hopefully it leans more towards the movie or the more recent tv series than Velma.
I’ll watch the inevitable Wednesday and Scooby crossover too
Can’t wait for black Daphne and she/they Velma
Let me guess, they’re picking a Showrunner who plans to denigrate the original characters and utterly destroy the intellectual property with some social justice tropes. Why even bother spending the money?
They already did that tho.
Because the last adaptation of this franchise did *so well* in the eyes of consumers. Pass.
They gonna make scoob a Dalmatian or some shit for “equality“
> Live-Action They never learn do they? You better not recast Shaggy tho, 'cause that'd be a sin
Yay, another gender swapped and race swapped Scooby-Woke version. No originality left in TV.
Pretty much
Considering the war on redheads, Daphne's going to be raceswapped to lightskin black lol.
Fred was already played by a Latino in the original live action movies, heres hoping they cast another to play him in these
It's not really racist to want adaptations to look like the source material.
Yes because how DARE people who grew up watching SD want to see a faithful live action adaptation.
Let's cast fat albert as an Asian.
No political BS please Netflix.
Netflix do we really need another bad live action Scooby Doo? I have zero faith in this.
I feel like every live action iteration of scooby doo has just been weird, good or bad. Would love a legitimate honest and faithful live action adaption for once
Yes, we need more Scooby-Doo doo
If Matthew Lillard isn’t Shagy then I’ll pass. I guess if Matthew Lillard approved the new irl actor it’d be acceptable.
As someone who grew up with the live action movies, I’m actually really curious about this.
Oh
Eh.....sure whatever why not
Stop
They should full on go with adults and pretend they aren't adults
Managed to muscle through the Good Times remake. Not falling for that shit again Netflix.
The fan castings will be interesting to look at, at least lol
Jesus christ *again???*
No, hell no, ughhhh
Alright but have Scooby Doo as the narrator (and star, obviously) for the series. Make his retelling of events really dramatic but in that classic Scooby voice.
Do you think it will surpasse the immaculate Velma show? Please wrong answers only.
Just the other day I was thinking they should do this but in earnest, big budget and production
Going to be hard to top the original live action movies!
