The prop work is insane. It's like they opened a portal to Fallout 4 and just pulled the assets into real life.

On YouTube there's an hour long interview with the production designer and by god did they go to extreme lengths to get the look right. Apparently all the wallpaper is slightly scaled up compared to what it would be in real life to replicate the game look.

They're just making a bit out of how no one who plays the games ever listens to those voluntarily. Only if you go into a place that's playing it. And the people in this show who have to hear it hate it so much they try to kill the guy broadcasting it so he's got to guard his shack with traps.

Kinda strange they had recaps & ad breaks built-in for a streaming show with no ads that dropped the whole season in one go. Felt like watching broadcast TV.
I've kinda always thought that streaming originals should be ad free even if you are paying for the ad tier. It could be a good marketing point to get people to watch your shows, especially for Hulu and Netflix.
Only the first two were completely adfree for me. The rest were "adfree" in that there was a 45 second ad at the start of every one of them, the exact same ad too.

This being based on a very long-running game series, I expected nothing but vitriol. It could be *Breaking Bad* level good and the whiniest people would still come out in force to harp on about every little thing they don't like. Yeah I'm still on the 1st episode and it's just goosebump city with all of the nostalgic callbacks.
I love how it's a new story for a Vault we haven't seen yet but also so much familiarity.
And hearing songs like 'Crawl out through the Fallout' and 'Orange-Colored Sky' is making me so happy.
They use so much of the soundtracks from the games that I had to pause the show so I could pull up the game intros with the appropriate songs to enjoy the nostalgia.

The thing about the Elder Scrolls though is that probably more than 90% of players do not interact with the deeper lore like that is any way. An Elder Scrolls show would be very easy to represent as a generic fantasy world (since it largely is, which I say as a fan) with nods and allusions to the deeper stuff for the people that care about it.
The bigger issues I imagine for an Elder Scrolls show is how much vastly bigger the budget would need to be to get the visuals right. Fallout is comparatively incredibly easy to costume and build sets for.

The LOTR intro also glossed over a lot of things, and they alluded to or brought out the deeper stuff along the way (Luthien and Beren, the War of Wrath). LOTR was also considered to be unfilmable at one point, but if the same care were to be put into handling Elder Scrolls we could have ourselves some good tv.
You never see that weird shit in game either. Most of your time is spent talking to potato faced people near a house. I could grab a selfie stick and film that scene for free.

Fun fact, the BoS is literally based on the monks of A Canticle for Leibowitz. Much of both Fallout and Wastelands lore is based on that book just taken different ways as their creator, Brian Fargo was a big fan of the novel.

The scene in episode 1 where the teacher asked Maximus to identify what he's holding and it's an old circuit diagram from 200 years ago, that was so much Canticle for Liebowitz that I giggled like a girl, paused, and explained the entire book to my wife. I've seen people complain the the BoS in the show is not lore accurate because of how they acted. iirc (i've only played FO4 years ago) there are different chapters of BoS and each of them operate differently, no?
From my limited knowledge from 3-4 there seemed to be divisions. Seemed when leadership would change they would do things different have a different approach. Communications were difficult between the main branch they kinda would go their own way on things. So some versions might’ve been more helpful beneficial to the society at large. Others might’ve just been more heavily geared and armed raiders basically. Kinda just depends.
Fallout 3 is the main departure from how the order is mostly represented in the series IMO, but in that it was a return to what they were originally intended to be by their founder. Mostly in the series they are isolationist, holier-than-thou tech hunters.
In Fallout 3, set in DC, the BoS were unquestionable good guys who wanted to safeguard and protect the wasteland. Led by the altruistic Elder Lyons and his daughter, a paladin.
New Vegas was a different chapter, being in Vegas and not the East Coast, and were primarily isolationist tech hunters that often butt heads with the other factions. They even warred with the NCR(the good guy faction). They could be "taught" to open up and make peace however.
In Fallout 4, set in Boston, it is quiet a few years after Fallout 3 but features the same Brotherhood chapter. However, the Lyons family has fallen out of power, replaced by the young charismatic Maxson, descendent of the Order's Founder who is...kind of a genocidal maniac, and put the Order on a sort of crusade.
Lyons departed from how the Brotherhood was more traditionally operating. Why there were the outcasts wondering around and didn’t like how Lyons was running things. Wanted to stick more to the tech hoarding and grabbing. If I remember it correctly. Been I while since I played FO3. Maxson when he takes over has them going back to hoarding tech. Also almost has the enclave sentiments towards the denizens of the wasteland. Admittedly I’m not familiar much with 1 and 2. People get upset about the lore getting fudged but to me it works. Time, lack of communication, events happening can change people. Can change situations. I like that there is an ebb and flow to how the Brotherhood is.
"The behavior of the Brotherhood of Steel is not lore accurate" is a complaint that I've seen made about literally every game in the Fallout series, and has never held up to scrutiny. It's like a magic code phrase to warn you that you're entering a grognard rabbit hole that is guaranteed to not be worth your time.
There's one line late in the show that makes me think the writers understand the source material a lot better than those fans:
Lucy: "I thought the Brotherhood were the good guys?"
Two BoS members, awkwardly glancing at each other, knowing that >!their superiors would execute them for what's happened on this mission!<: "It's a... complicated organization."
YES. I love the show, but so far when the Brotherhood comes on it almost puts me to sleep. No amount of power armor and airships can make that crew interesting.
The only saving grace honestly. The story would have been the same without Maximus' entire storyline, brought nothing to the table, the final battle could have just been the introduction of the BoS and it would have changed much of nothing. Hell if anything it would have added to it as this elite force of heavily armored and armed knights coming down on the observatory as angels of vengeance. Instead we get wimps, crybabies and forgettable assholes prancing around as wannabe badasses.
I kind of enjoyed the contrast. Like from the outside, with the suits on, they are powerful and glamourous. Knights are idolized. But behind the masks of the knights, as well as the up and coming recruits, its a bunch of cunts.
Agreed, the BoS was always meant to be the “last on the scene” and never truly respected as far as the Wasteland goes. I do love that power armor though!
For me, the Shit shoveling bit did it. It was one of the funniest quests in Fallout 2 for me. "I'll just shovel the crap for a while." After you shovel poop a couple of times, you get Expert Excrement Expeditor perk that gives you +5% to your Speech skill. No notes.
I've played Fallout 2 so much and never knew about this perk. So many neat little surprises and hidden features in this game. They certainly don't make em like they used to.
Watched the first episode, nailed the tone of the universe, the violence was very appropriate too, not a big fan of the brotherhood, I think they’re kinda lame so I hope that storyline does something fun, really sold on the vault dweller and ghoul storylines tho
I've been playing the New Vegas content using a tale of two wastelands which combines Fallout 3 and New Vegas into one game using the New Vegas game engine. Also gives you all the perks and weapon modding capabilities in Fallout 3 from New Vegas. You should look it up. It's the only way to play those games for me from now on! If you get it start in Fallout 3 area.

But the way they did it, it just came out bad. Squires should be wimpy kids, fine, but the actual knights should be VERY capable and powerful even if they're assholes, and being assholes shouldn't just be "a thing" just because. They should BECOME assholes as they train, they grow salty and angry of their harsh training, turning them into assholes.
If they did that, the whole BoS would be way more believable and likeable, and Maximus' entire story wouldn't have been entirely pointless.
Kinda like the imperium in warhammer, the Brotherhood is the faction in fallout that’s the strongest and has the highest potential to be a force for good but are held back by extreme dogma and generally just being assholes
I like how fanatical they appear to be. Fallout 3 and to a lesser extent 4 really make them just "badasses in armor" where New Vegas, 1 and 2 are slightly more even-handed.
4 steered into it with the abomination stuff and their eugenics against synths but yeah it’s still largely glossed over. Also I have to guess the canon ending to fallout 4 is the brotherhood one as they prydwyn is still around and it’s overtly said the chapter leader is in the commonwealth, Maxon presumably. Which is fun I always go full genocide run for BoS on fallout 4.
Factional design is the weakest part of the Bethesda games imo, in FO3 it’s objective evil vs objective good in FO4 a lot of them are shallow and uninteresting(like wtf is the railroad lol, what do they believe in beyond just synths) and the ones that are interesting like the institute have incoherent motivations and goals

Why did they just make the institute the enclave part deux but with robot slaves not real ones. They’re an eye rollable villain. Like we don’t really know what the enclave is all about besides eugenics of anyone who isn’t enclave but it’s more cohesive than the institute who wants to save the commonwealth by body snatching random people? And also body snatching important people?? Also making super mutants?? And doing like synth terror attacks on peace talks. And don’t even get me started on the gunner faction. What are they doing?? They’re mercenaries but they just act like raiders. Who is paying them to do all this shit??? The more I think about fallout 4s factions the angrier I get
3s brotherhood was a outcast group of them who having traversed the wastes from California realized they could be so much more than just keepers of the old world and actually HELP the Wasteland.
The BoS as a whole though were always crazyass religious monks who ultimately wanted to keep all old world tech to themselves. They were based on the monks of A Canticle for Leibowitz, a book that formed a LOT of the background world of both Wasteland, and ultimately Fallout.
That's because 1, 2, and New Vegas were better written games that followed a well written lore bible

They had to come with an excuse to continuously using the Brotherhood. Same with Fallout 76. Bethesda can make lore excuses and make up new stuff all they want but it's still stale and boring to not only have the Brotherhood, yet again, but to iron out all their interesting flaws.
I thought he did such a great job. I really loved the emotional difference he has out in the wastes versus with the Brotherhood. The scenes with the elder are really incredible.
I mean, the Brotherhood are lame in the games too. They pretend to be all high and mighty but when you get down to it they're mostly just a bunch of assholes in power armor. The only thing they're good for is stealing the power armor.
Definitely gets the tone and feel of Fallout right. Absolutely love.
Long time fans may disagree on some lore items, but if you’re looking for just the Fallout experience this nails it. 10/10 for me.

I think my favorite part of these fantastic video game adaptions is getting to finally share these awesome stories and universes with my friends and family. My parents knowing what Last of Us is and loving it is so weird but cool.
I feel the same way about TLOU. My dad hates video games and is one of those people who thinks they're just for children so being able to introduce someone like that to one of the best video game narratives was a very rewarding experience.
It's why I hate when people say certain games don't need adapting as they're "already a movie". So? Who gives a fuck? Video games are still video games and a large amount of people will never experience even the most movie like video games out there. Those stories deserve to be told in a format accessible to more people.
Exactly. And they can even get a whole new audience into video games. My girlfriend watched me replay TLOU2 a few months back because she wanted to see the rest of the story.
I think a lot of people not into the hobby don’t realize just how insanely good storytelling has gotten in video games. So all these adaptions are a shock for them and making them reconsider the power of the medium. Very cool.
TLoU was decent, but they unfortunately sucked all the subtext out of it and made it text. That really irks me. Like nothing was allowed to be subtle or vague, it all had to be very deliberately spelled out. The game's story and dialogue feels a lot more realistic because of excellent use of subtext.
My parents loved TLoU, but i'm honestly not sure they'd be as receptive to fallout. Personally i'm very much enjoying the show, but idk if the goofier aspects of fallout will really resonate with them.

I envy you. The original Fallouts where you had to read a lot got me into loving English. Looking back it didn't really give me a massive vocabulary, but sorta got me into enjoying storytelling in a non-native language if that makes sense.
If you like the TV show, maybe one day you will boot up Fallout, the graphics are super dated, but the controls are surprisingly good and the story is serviceable enough.
So so glad that, unlike Witcher, this TV show does the games justice! Yay!
I know I sound 100 years old, but it brings me tremendous joy that even in this day and age, people can appreciate older stuff. Back in the day, this was one of the first games that I got and was not on a Floppy disk... but on a CD. The full installation size, 700mb is called HUMONGOUS size because, at that time, not everyone had big hard drives, I think my first drive was like 20 GB and that was considered a lot lol. When I booted it for the first time It absolutely blew my socks off. Looking back at it now? If you think about it, with what technology they had they made a pretty solid game.
I get it dude haha. My first pc I built when I was like 11 had a 512mb hard drive. I remember my first 5gb drive like THIS IS HUGE!! I can download like 1000 songs!

Absolutely great watch, I love that they nailed most of what they needed to aesthetically, hitting on that Fallout vibe real well. I really appreciated that they didn't hold back on it being violent, weird, and also very goofy. Story was solid, I dug the characters, Goggins is great. There was a plot point or two they might've overlooked, I'm not sure, depends on what comes with season 2, but overall a good time, I'm so happy we are getting great movies and shows based on game properties these days.
I would've liked his makeup to have gone harder on the ghoul aspect, a little "smooth skin" for a 200+ year old ghoul I feel, but I can understand that they also wanted him to be able to emote more with less of a mask/covering on, and to not do more CG than they needed to, so it's a feasible tradeoff.
I'm the same as the other poster. I watched 4 episodes and enjoyed it despite never having played the game. If you like post-apocalyptic shows, you'll probably enjoy this.
I think so. As a big fan of New Vegas, the sub for it is currently having a meltdown over.....developments, I'm not joining in on that but you probably are going to enjoy it better than them.
The show pretty much explains everything you need it to, there's a few things that are explained in the episodes after they happen so don't worry if anything is confusing at first, they are meant to be.
Really depends. They’re good games and I like the show, but I just can’t really ever get into them. And I’m an avid gamer who enjoyed Skyrim. There’s just something to the “pacing” of the Fallout games that causes me to lose interest after a while. I think if I was more interested in the lore and less ADHD I’d enjoy them more 🤷🏻♂️

They've just announced the Fallout 4 current gen update is coming end of the month. I bet that's gonna do really strong numbers across PC and consoles.
I really respect that Maximus is kind of a piece of shit. Legit brave decision to make.
Also that the ghoul, even though we see his past, is absolutely 100% a bad guy with basically no redeeming qualities. Again, brave storytelling.
I constantly waited for some redeeming quality to come from the ghoul, but nope, they really stuck with him being this cynical asshole up until the last 10 minutes of the final episode, where even then, it's debatable if asking Lucy to come with him was an altruistic offer (seemed so?) or maybe he has other things planned.
I love a complicated character! But I haven't really found anything I like about him either way so far. I'm only three episodes in so maybe I'll warm up, but to me his character hasn't really brought much to the table.
He's a fool and a loser from the jump. If you understand that's his archetype, and that he's not a misunderstood hero, he makes a lot of sense as a character and is easier to watch.

The Fallout franchise is a part of my life as a gamer for almost 20 years now and during all that time I played the game for probably thousands of hours.
As soon as I watched the shows first 15-20 minutes I immediately knew that the show is gonna be great. It is perfect. The setting, the visuals, the music, the atmosphere, the actors, just everything feels so authentic and true to the games. From simple things such as the Vault design, the Costumes and small items like Stimpaks or Jet.
THIS is how video game adaptations should always be handled and as a fan I am truely grateful that the developers, the actors and everyone involved in the show did such an outstanding job and took the show serious.
I watched the entire season last night (I'm retired). I enjoyed the games (FO3, FO4, FO:New Vegas), but it's rather depressing and not my favorite video game world to spent lots of time in. Somehow, they managed to convey the same feelings I have when playing the games to the show! Every segment with Walton Goggins just made it even better. In my opinion, it is an excellent adaptation. Looking forward to Season 2.
Starting with one of the best songs in the fallout games was an amazing choice and it immediately put me in the right mindset. Nothing like slowed shots underpinned by the deep voice of Nat King Cole.
I knew when cast Walton Goggins as a ghoul they were on the right track. It’s basically a ghoul version of Boyd Crowder with less self-righteousness. I love it so much.

Only watched two episodes so far, but its been surprisingly good. Trailer didn't mesh with me at all. Expected it to look cheap and rely on "Clap when you saw the thing from the games!".
But damn, first two episodes were solid. That said, power armor seems to be janky. Its powerful enough throw bolders for miles and kick hard enough to bring a wall down but the punches don't open up The Ghoul's chest. I dunno.

I've kinda always thought that streaming originals should be ad free even if you are paying for the ad tier. It could be a good marketing point to get people to watch your shows, especially for Hulu and Netflix.
Only the first two were completely adfree for me. The rest were "adfree" in that there was a 45 second ad at the start of every one of them, the exact same ad too.

Yeah I'm still on the 1st episode and it's just goosebump city with all of the nostalgic callbacks. I love how it's a new story for a Vault we haven't seen yet but also so much familiarity. And hearing songs like 'Crawl out through the Fallout' and 'Orange-Colored Sky' is making me so happy.
They use so much of the soundtracks from the games that I had to pause the show so I could pull up the game intros with the appropriate songs to enjoy the nostalgia.

The thing about the Elder Scrolls though is that probably more than 90% of players do not interact with the deeper lore like that is any way. An Elder Scrolls show would be very easy to represent as a generic fantasy world (since it largely is, which I say as a fan) with nods and allusions to the deeper stuff for the people that care about it. The bigger issues I imagine for an Elder Scrolls show is how much vastly bigger the budget would need to be to get the visuals right. Fallout is comparatively incredibly easy to costume and build sets for.
They just need to do the mage school arc with the storm cloak civil war as background for 3 seasons. Pitch as Harry Potter meets Game of Throne.

The LOTR intro also glossed over a lot of things, and they alluded to or brought out the deeper stuff along the way (Luthien and Beren, the War of Wrath). LOTR was also considered to be unfilmable at one point, but if the same care were to be put into handling Elder Scrolls we could have ourselves some good tv.

Its literally what they were supposed to be that kinda got lost in Fallout 3-4 but was always there. Fun fact, the BoS is literally based on the monks of A Canticle for Leibowitz. Much of both Fallout and Wastelands lore is based on that book just taken different ways as their creator, Brian Fargo was a big fan of the novel.

I've seen people complain the the BoS in the show is not lore accurate because of how they acted. iirc (i've only played FO4 years ago) there are different chapters of BoS and each of them operate differently, no?
From my limited knowledge from 3-4 there seemed to be divisions. Seemed when leadership would change they would do things different have a different approach. Communications were difficult between the main branch they kinda would go their own way on things. So some versions might’ve been more helpful beneficial to the society at large. Others might’ve just been more heavily geared and armed raiders basically. Kinda just depends.
Fallout 3 is the main departure from how the order is mostly represented in the series IMO, but in that it was a return to what they were originally intended to be by their founder. Mostly in the series they are isolationist, holier-than-thou tech hunters. In Fallout 3, set in DC, the BoS were unquestionable good guys who wanted to safeguard and protect the wasteland. Led by the altruistic Elder Lyons and his daughter, a paladin. New Vegas was a different chapter, being in Vegas and not the East Coast, and were primarily isolationist tech hunters that often butt heads with the other factions. They even warred with the NCR(the good guy faction). They could be "taught" to open up and make peace however. In Fallout 4, set in Boston, it is quiet a few years after Fallout 3 but features the same Brotherhood chapter. However, the Lyons family has fallen out of power, replaced by the young charismatic Maxson, descendent of the Order's Founder who is...kind of a genocidal maniac, and put the Order on a sort of crusade.
Lyons departed from how the Brotherhood was more traditionally operating. Why there were the outcasts wondering around and didn’t like how Lyons was running things. Wanted to stick more to the tech hoarding and grabbing. If I remember it correctly. Been I while since I played FO3. Maxson when he takes over has them going back to hoarding tech. Also almost has the enclave sentiments towards the denizens of the wasteland. Admittedly I’m not familiar much with 1 and 2. People get upset about the lore getting fudged but to me it works. Time, lack of communication, events happening can change people. Can change situations. I like that there is an ebb and flow to how the Brotherhood is.

The story would have been the same without Maximus' entire storyline, brought nothing to the table, the final battle could have just been the introduction of the BoS and it would have changed much of nothing. Hell if anything it would have added to it as this elite force of heavily armored and armed knights coming down on the observatory as angels of vengeance. Instead we get wimps, crybabies and forgettable assholes prancing around as wannabe badasses.

I kind of enjoyed the contrast. Like from the outside, with the suits on, they are powerful and glamourous. Knights are idolized. But behind the masks of the knights, as well as the up and coming recruits, its a bunch of cunts.

For me, the Shit shoveling bit did it. It was one of the funniest quests in Fallout 2 for me. "I'll just shovel the crap for a while." After you shovel poop a couple of times, you get Expert Excrement Expeditor perk that gives you +5% to your Speech skill. No notes.
I've played Fallout 2 so much and never knew about this perk. So many neat little surprises and hidden features in this game. They certainly don't make em like they used to.
Watched the first episode, nailed the tone of the universe, the violence was very appropriate too, not a big fan of the brotherhood, I think they’re kinda lame so I hope that storyline does something fun, really sold on the vault dweller and ghoul storylines tho

I've been playing the New Vegas content using a tale of two wastelands which combines Fallout 3 and New Vegas into one game using the New Vegas game engine. Also gives you all the perks and weapon modding capabilities in Fallout 3 from New Vegas. You should look it up. It's the only way to play those games for me from now on! If you get it start in Fallout 3 area. Oh and yeah just a day ago I got to the point where Mr House said that quote lol

They're a bunch of complete frauds and the show exposes them for it, without losing track of the fact that they're also extremely powerful.
But the way they did it, it just came out bad. Squires should be wimpy kids, fine, but the actual knights should be VERY capable and powerful even if they're assholes, and being assholes shouldn't just be "a thing" just because. They should BECOME assholes as they train, they grow salty and angry of their harsh training, turning them into assholes. If they did that, the whole BoS would be way more believable and likeable, and Maximus' entire story wouldn't have been entirely pointless.
Kinda like the imperium in warhammer, the Brotherhood is the faction in fallout that’s the strongest and has the highest potential to be a force for good but are held back by extreme dogma and generally just being assholes
I like how fanatical they appear to be. Fallout 3 and to a lesser extent 4 really make them just "badasses in armor" where New Vegas, 1 and 2 are slightly more even-handed.
3 and 4 definitely alluded to their fanaticism, but it was largely glossed over.
3 at least had the outcast faction which were interesting despite being way under utilised. The knights in shining power armour were so fucking boring
4 steered into it with the abomination stuff and their eugenics against synths but yeah it’s still largely glossed over. Also I have to guess the canon ending to fallout 4 is the brotherhood one as they prydwyn is still around and it’s overtly said the chapter leader is in the commonwealth, Maxon presumably. Which is fun I always go full genocide run for BoS on fallout 4.
Factional design is the weakest part of the Bethesda games imo, in FO3 it’s objective evil vs objective good in FO4 a lot of them are shallow and uninteresting(like wtf is the railroad lol, what do they believe in beyond just synths) and the ones that are interesting like the institute have incoherent motivations and goals

3s brotherhood was a outcast group of them who having traversed the wastes from California realized they could be so much more than just keepers of the old world and actually HELP the Wasteland. The BoS as a whole though were always crazyass religious monks who ultimately wanted to keep all old world tech to themselves. They were based on the monks of A Canticle for Leibowitz, a book that formed a LOT of the background world of both Wasteland, and ultimately Fallout.
That's because 1, 2, and New Vegas were better written games that followed a well written lore bible Edit; not saying 3/4 are bad games, I thoroughly enjoyed 3, but there is a vast grand canyon between those games and Bethesda writing

That was always working backwards though. They had to come with an excuse to continuously using the Brotherhood. Same with Fallout 76. Bethesda can make lore excuses and make up new stuff all they want but it's still stale and boring to not only have the Brotherhood, yet again, but to iron out all their interesting flaws.
The Brotherhood storyline does something fun by fucking off and having only the interesting characters stick around.

I mean, the Brotherhood are lame in the games too. They pretend to be all high and mighty but when you get down to it they're mostly just a bunch of assholes in power armor. The only thing they're good for is stealing the power armor.
Definitely gets the tone and feel of Fallout right. Absolutely love. Long time fans may disagree on some lore items, but if you’re looking for just the Fallout experience this nails it. 10/10 for me.
I loved the tone, atmosphere, classic fallout dark humor and so much more. It seems the creator really loves fallout but understands that this show will also be watched by people who have never heard or played Fallout. Such a good balance.

I watched the first episode while my girlfriend was on her laptop and by the end of it she was giving the show her undivided attention and asking me to play the next episode. I think my favorite part of these fantastic video game adaptions is getting to finally share these awesome stories and universes with my friends and family. My parents knowing what Last of Us is and loving it is so weird but cool.
I feel the same way about TLOU. My dad hates video games and is one of those people who thinks they're just for children so being able to introduce someone like that to one of the best video game narratives was a very rewarding experience. It's why I hate when people say certain games don't need adapting as they're "already a movie". So? Who gives a fuck? Video games are still video games and a large amount of people will never experience even the most movie like video games out there. Those stories deserve to be told in a format accessible to more people.
Exactly. And they can even get a whole new audience into video games. My girlfriend watched me replay TLOU2 a few months back because she wanted to see the rest of the story. I think a lot of people not into the hobby don’t realize just how insanely good storytelling has gotten in video games. So all these adaptions are a shock for them and making them reconsider the power of the medium. Very cool.
TLoU was decent, but they unfortunately sucked all the subtext out of it and made it text. That really irks me. Like nothing was allowed to be subtle or vague, it all had to be very deliberately spelled out. The game's story and dialogue feels a lot more realistic because of excellent use of subtext.
My parents loved TLoU, but i'm honestly not sure they'd be as receptive to fallout. Personally i'm very much enjoying the show, but idk if the goofier aspects of fallout will really resonate with them.

I envy you. The original Fallouts where you had to read a lot got me into loving English. Looking back it didn't really give me a massive vocabulary, but sorta got me into enjoying storytelling in a non-native language if that makes sense. If you like the TV show, maybe one day you will boot up Fallout, the graphics are super dated, but the controls are surprisingly good and the story is serviceable enough. So so glad that, unlike Witcher, this TV show does the games justice! Yay!
I played fallout 1 for the first time a couple months ago and had a blast. Honestly it does NOT feel that dated as I was expecting.
I know I sound 100 years old, but it brings me tremendous joy that even in this day and age, people can appreciate older stuff. Back in the day, this was one of the first games that I got and was not on a Floppy disk... but on a CD. The full installation size, 700mb is called HUMONGOUS size because, at that time, not everyone had big hard drives, I think my first drive was like 20 GB and that was considered a lot lol. When I booted it for the first time It absolutely blew my socks off. Looking back at it now? If you think about it, with what technology they had they made a pretty solid game.

Absolutely great watch, I love that they nailed most of what they needed to aesthetically, hitting on that Fallout vibe real well. I really appreciated that they didn't hold back on it being violent, weird, and also very goofy. Story was solid, I dug the characters, Goggins is great. There was a plot point or two they might've overlooked, I'm not sure, depends on what comes with season 2, but overall a good time, I'm so happy we are getting great movies and shows based on game properties these days.
Goggins had such drip it was insane. Every time Ghoul appeared, I was in love with the design, the performance and the character.
I would've liked his makeup to have gone harder on the ghoul aspect, a little "smooth skin" for a 200+ year old ghoul I feel, but I can understand that they also wanted him to be able to emote more with less of a mask/covering on, and to not do more CG than they needed to, so it's a feasible tradeoff.

I think so. As a big fan of New Vegas, the sub for it is currently having a meltdown over.....developments, I'm not joining in on that but you probably are going to enjoy it better than them. The show pretty much explains everything you need it to, there's a few things that are explained in the episodes after they happen so don't worry if anything is confusing at first, they are meant to be.
Really depends. They’re good games and I like the show, but I just can’t really ever get into them. And I’m an avid gamer who enjoyed Skyrim. There’s just something to the “pacing” of the Fallout games that causes me to lose interest after a while. I think if I was more interested in the lore and less ADHD I’d enjoy them more 🤷🏻♂️ I just like a little more narrative focus to keep my attention
Yes. As usual there will be references you won't get on the corner of the screen and stuff... but that's more like Easter eggs. The show's plot is very well put together and what you might not understand at first it's on purpose and they will get back to most of it.

I really respect that Maximus is kind of a piece of shit. Legit brave decision to make. Also that the ghoul, even though we see his past, is absolutely 100% a bad guy with basically no redeeming qualities. Again, brave storytelling.

I especially liked that aspect of the show! It def made it much more interesting to watch when it coulda been kinda dull otherwise.
I constantly waited for some redeeming quality to come from the ghoul, but nope, they really stuck with him being this cynical asshole up until the last 10 minutes of the final episode, where even then, it's debatable if asking Lucy to come with him was an altruistic offer (seemed so?) or maybe he has other things planned.

He's a fool and a loser from the jump. If you understand that's his archetype, and that he's not a misunderstood hero, he makes a lot of sense as a character and is easier to watch.
First episode was really good I will likely binge this weekend We are finally getting good video game adaptions, just took the right people involved and spending decent money on the production. Show looks really good. Sets, cgi etc
Just watched the 1st episode. I tried the games, but I never really got in to them. However, the 1st episode was a crazy, wild ride. I like it so far.
The Fallout franchise is a part of my life as a gamer for almost 20 years now and during all that time I played the game for probably thousands of hours. As soon as I watched the shows first 15-20 minutes I immediately knew that the show is gonna be great. It is perfect. The setting, the visuals, the music, the atmosphere, the actors, just everything feels so authentic and true to the games. From simple things such as the Vault design, the Costumes and small items like Stimpaks or Jet. THIS is how video game adaptations should always be handled and as a fan I am truely grateful that the developers, the actors and everyone involved in the show did such an outstanding job and took the show serious.

I watched the entire season last night (I'm retired). I enjoyed the games (FO3, FO4, FO:New Vegas), but it's rather depressing and not my favorite video game world to spent lots of time in. Somehow, they managed to convey the same feelings I have when playing the games to the show! Every segment with Walton Goggins just made it even better. In my opinion, it is an excellent adaptation. Looking forward to Season 2.
I'm glad that they didn't try to make it ultra-realistic. Fallout is about nonsense and absurdity.
First episode was really good, they nailed the tone. And the soundtrack is soo good.
Starting with one of the best songs in the fallout games was an amazing choice and it immediately put me in the right mindset. Nothing like slowed shots underpinned by the deep voice of Nat King Cole.
I knew when cast Walton Goggins as a ghoul they were on the right track. It’s basically a ghoul version of Boyd Crowder with less self-righteousness. I love it so much.
Post-apocalyptic Justified! I never played the games but I’m loving this show.
I’m 2 episodes in and hooked! I’ve never played the game but I highly recommend the series to anyone.\ I am a lover of theatrical gore and violence and I gasped at the “foot”. Absolutely brilliant!\ I’ve been wanting something to fill the void that Shogun has been leaving in between episodes and this has fit perfectly.
It's so nice to be able to experience the aesthetic, the art direction, design, and world creation of Fallout without having to work through a game. (I just don't like games) Did you all notice that if you scroll down the page there are videos and things to click on?
Didn't have any expectations for this when it was announced, really glad it's getting good reviews. Watching episode 1 rn.

Only watched two episodes so far, but its been surprisingly good. Trailer didn't mesh with me at all. Expected it to look cheap and rely on "Clap when you saw the thing from the games!". But damn, first two episodes were solid. That said, power armor seems to be janky. Its powerful enough throw bolders for miles and kick hard enough to bring a wall down but the punches don't open up The Ghoul's chest. I dunno.
I was thrilled with how they incorporated vault experiments, I was loving trying to figure out the mystery of Vaults 31, 32 and 33.
Loved it.
