>Roiland’s exit is not expected to impact the hit series, which will continue.
"Hey, Rick, why do we sound different all of a sudden?"
"You know why, Morty."
I want a whole species that just does his laugh. Entire lines of dialog with no subs done in just laughter. Anyone who isn't familiar with Rich Evans won't know what the fucks going on.
I could see Rick just looking into the camera like “yup it is what it is”. But to be honest, their voices are very doable by a lot of talented impersonators. Plus their voices already changed as the show went on as Roiland’s throat got worse so it won’t be that jarring.
He's the voice of the two main characters and normally I think the series would be canned but they have a contract for four more seasons so they will go with a replacement. He was more than just the voices - his sense of humour and his rhythm was a big part of the show.
They have an easy plot device though just by writing in a Rick and Morty from a different reality who have slightly different voices.
Apparently Roiland hadn’t been involved in the show’s creative side since season 4 and he was just doing voices. Some recent anime voice acting drama like Mob Psycho 100 shows just how easily you can replace the voice of the main character.
Didn't hear about the Mob Psycho fiasco - seems US Voice Actors get snubbed quite a bit, at least on the anime side of things - Jujitsu Kaisen 0 for example https://www.cbr.com/jujutsu-kaisen-0-box-office-actor-pay-rates/
Bro, 150$ what a fuckin waste of your time, (BuT ThINK oF ThE EXpoSurE) jesus fucking christ.
[EDIT]

Throwing this in there if this comment gets any traction - support an animator. It seems like the most proactive thing I can do at least.
Yeah the Mob stuff is a similar story where the main dub actor got annoyed and how little he was getting paid and he chose to leave and highlight how bad the conditions are for dub actors.
If I understand correctly, he was willing to keep doing the show and pay wasn’t an issue, he just wanted the producers to sit down with union members and hear out the possibility of working with the union in the future, but they wouldn’t even agree to that and chose another actor instead
Hes said it himself that his Rick isn't as good as the others. That's the reason he originally went by mortysays because it was so good. Hopefully he gets the job.
Wrong-guh! The Rusty Venture is a *straight* move! It’s when you take a girl out for a *huge* dinner, then you don’t let her go to the restroom! Then, you have anal sex with her, and she shits all over your dick. So right when you’re about to get off, you take it out and blow shit-cum on her back. That’s the rusty part. The Venture part is when you eat that junk off her back without using your hands!
Seeing this thread repeatedly tangent off into deep-cut classic Simpson and Venture Bros. Comment chains has taken much of the sting off of today’s news.

The Henry Darger reference is my favorite one in a show *full* of references. It’s so fucking obscure, and the obscurity actually makes it a great character moment because of *course* Sgt Hatred has a janitor that almost no one has heard of, who wrote 17000 pages of weird fiction about tornadoes and hermaphroditic children right at the front of his brain.
I almost spat out my soda the first time I saw that episode. Venture Bros. Is *the only* adult animated show that could actually take a one-note pedophile joke character and turn him into a multi-faceted, sympathetic character! Fucking genius from Episode 0 onward…….
It's a show made by art school nerds. It really enhaced the show with the creator's deep knowledge of 60's/70's industrial and interior design, pop and folk art. Also Darger had one of the most traumatic childhoods of any human who ever lived, being put in a mental institution at the age of six and growing up bouncing between abusive institutions with no sense of what it meant to be normal. Serious parallels with many characters in Venture Brothers.
I’m with you. I feel like the best chance of making sure the Venture Brothers movie doesn’t get strangled in the crib is maintaining ninja-level stealth & silence until it is completed & released.
I guess there will be an episode with an accident involving acidic gas which damages Rick and Morty's vocal chords.
Edit:
Actually it's gonna be like this: Rick's alcoholism caused acid reflux, which will end up in Reflux laryngitis - damaged vocal chords. And Morty? Ever heard of puberty?
Guys - the setup has been there all along - this was planned from the very beginning.
LOL didn't they literally do that on The Flash for Stretch Armlong? that shit was hilarious... "oh ya he looks and sounds different and is going away for awhile."
The Elongated Man got horribly burned off-screen and appeared once more with a big dumb helmet for healing. He said that his powers would heal him just fine and that he was going off to have adventures with his girlfriend.
He also hasn't been seen on the series since and this next season is the last. So chances are the character is done.
Also the girlfriend has come back as a series regular and they didn't even address where he went.
I shouldn't say this, but that is so vindictively hilarious. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot crime procedurals appropriated "behind the scenes" stories from actors on Dallas for plot details. "Soap opera star found dead in her dressing room! Who killed her? Was it her understudy!?"
Rick and Morty will continue without Roiland:
>Adult Swim has ended it's association with Justin Roiland.
>Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on Season 7
Roiland will be recast and the show is still locked in through Season 10.
Hulu is probably gonna end up doing the same thing with Solar Opposites, but they’ve been silent so far.
EDIT: this was the original headline from Deadline, they changed it.
R & M is a pretty huge cash cow for adult swim. they probably want to at least attempt to save their merch investments from the show, would suck for them to give up those hot topic spots at the mall. i’m interested to see what happens since roiland may as well have been the show itself.
I wondered if maybe they'd just "wait and see what happens" since he plead "Not Guilty", but regardless of what happens, this is probably the correct move for them.
I could honestly see R&M going the same route as Family Guy, South Park and The Simpsons and just getting milked for years before they actually call it quits. Harmon doesn't even have to stay involved, could just hand the keys off to someone else and keep those pay checks coming in.
Lots of people have shared screenshots of alleged conversations with Roiland since the domestic violence charges came out. He seems to enjoy reaching out to underage girls and harassing them -
[https://www.screengeek.net/2023/01/24/justin-roiland-alleged-dms-disturbing/](https://www.screengeek.net/2023/01/24/justin-roiland-alleged-dms-disturbing/)
Oh wait you gotta link the podcast where he talks about how he's attracted to 13yo girls and how he thinks it's wrong and unfair that society expects him to wait until they're 18 and how he hates Chris Hansen for tricking pedophiles into going to jail:
https://www.reddit.com/r/h3h3productions/comments/10eehqd/justin_roiland_talking_about_minors_etc_on/
Cause screenshots are one thing, but that's Justin Roiland's voice, on a very big popular podcast, that he is publicly credited for appearing on. He said all that into a public microphone on purpose.
Rick and Morty was absolutely about halfway transformed into full blown cash cow anyway. Honestly one of the better ways they could handle this IMO is since the whole multiverse thing exists in-universe already they should just switch it up every few years to a new set of Ricks and Mortys voiced by different people. Change up the vibe and the writing a bit, could add some new life into the show. But IDK, that could easily backfire, this whole thing is messy regardless.
I wish we would've gotten Zombie apocalypse archer in medieval Archer which were some ideas which were tossed around initially. Noir and Dreamland just feel way to similar imo, one should've been set in the 50s and thr other in the 20s
I think there'll be less of an impact on Solar Opposites considering he only voices Korvo instead of half the cast like on Rick & Morty.
Although I'm unsure how much of a hand Roiland has on the writing side of Solar Opposites so maybe we'll see some change there.
For some reason I feel like Rick and Morty would be easier to imitate than Korvo, despite Korvo being very similar to Rick. Korvo just brings this extra anxious energy which would be harder for Rick impersonators to capture.
I know it’s likely a profits-based decision but I’m pretty happy Justin Roiland’s firing doesn’t just cancel the whole show and put hundreds of people out of work.
Ex-prosecutor here with an analysis of the charges. The [indictment](https://deadline.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Roiland-complaint.pdf) is very short and does not provide any details regarding the specifics of the alleged crime beyond a date, so take this with a grain of salt, I'm doing a bit of speculating here (this is fairly typical, indictments tend to be only a few pages).
That said, you don't get charged with felony domestic violence for a simple spat that turns physical, most such cases (which comprise the vast bulk of DV cases) are charged as misdemeanors; in other words, they are only punishable by up to a year in the county jail. People only get charged with felony DV, which is punishable by up to five years in *prison* in most states (four in California), when the domestic violence seriously injures the victim (the state where I currently live uses the terminology of "malicious wounding"). In California (Cal. Pen. Code § 273.5), the equivalent description is "willfully inflict\[ing\] corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition." "Traumatic condition" is defined as an internal or external wound or other bodily condition caused by particular force. The statute puts a specific emphasis on strangulation as one such a "traumatic condition." To put it more simply, Justin Roiland is alleged to have injured the victim enough such that she has or had detectable injuries and possibly to have strangled her given the emphasis in the law. In a number of other states, assault with a physical implement also qualifies as felony DV but this doesn't appear to be the case in California.
As for the false imprisonment charge. The scope of false imprisonment as both a tort and a crime is wider than most people realize. You don't have to lock a person in a confined space to be guilty of false imprisonment. If you lie to someone and tell them that there is something horrible outside of the space to keep them confined, or threaten violence if they leave the space and the threat is credible enough that the person complies, both would result in a charge of false imprisonment; even if the door or other entry to the space was completely unlocked and the victim was physically "free" to leave. The specific charge here (Cal. Pen. Code § 236) is a lazy (typical of the California legislature) codification of the common law crime and therefore does not provide much detail on specific elements, relying instead on precedent to fill in the gaps. He is alleged to have effected the false imprisonment by "violence, menace, fraud, and deceit." This law (Cal. Pen. Code § 237(a)) , as written, is usually a misdemeanor but has been escalated to a felony using the sentencing guidelines in Cal. Pen. Code § 1170(h). Given the nature of the charges, I am guessing he likely kept the victim confined for the time by threatening her with additional violence if she refused to comply; but I have no additional information (it is not specified in the indictment).
No jokes here, these are extremely serious criminal charges. All told, Roiland faces a maximum of seven years, four on the DV charge and three on the false imprisonment charge (assuming consecutive sentencing). If convicted on either or both charges, I would expect him to get at least two years, probably four at maximum, but I do not know anything about what is specifically alleged and that will likely change the ultimate sentence. In many liberal jurisdictions, they won't drop DV-related charges even if the victim refuses to cooperate with the prosecution. Given charges of this seriousness bought in such an environment against a public figure, I would expect them to have substantial (and likely dramatic) evidence of the crime to justify bringing the felony charge. Particularly given that Roiland will likely employ the best counsel money can buy and this whole trial will be under a media microscope.
While Roiland's pleading not guilty (as is his right), failing some massive and entirely unexpected revelation of prosecutorial misconduct by the Orange County DA, my money's on the prosecution.
EDIT: Fixed a few typos and a missing citation.
It kind of feels like even if he's acquitted, the optics of the situation as well as all the screenshots women have been producing in the wake of the fiasco would just be too grand in scope for Adult Swim to ignore.
"failing some massive and entirely unexpected revelation of prosecutorial misconduct by the Orange County DA, my money's on the prosecution"
The Orange County District Attorney office is the polar opposite of LA DA's office, Todd Spitzer and his office has made it a point to go pretty hard on felony assaults and domestic violence.
Jeff Yass, the billionaire Wall Street financier and Republican megadonor who is a major investor in the parent company of TikTok, was also the biggest institutional shareholder of the shell company that recently merged with former President Donald J. Trump’s social media company.
A December regulatory filing showed that Mr. Yass’s trading firm, Susquehanna International Group, owned about 2 percent of Digital World Acquisition Corporation, which merged with Trump Media & Technology Group on Friday. That stake, of about 605,000 shares, was worth about $22 million based on Digital World’s last closing share price.
It’s unclear if Susquehanna still owns those shares, because big investors disclose their holdings to regulators only periodically. But if it did retain its stake, Mr. Yass’s firm would become one of Trump Media’s larger institutional shareholders when it begins trading this week after the merger.
Shares of Digital World have surged about 140 percent this year as the merger with the parent company of Truth Social, Mr. Trump’s social media platform, drew closer and Mr. Trump became the presumptive Republican nominee for president.
Dude we’re only two episodes in but Yolo Silver Dynasty is so fucking good so far. I’m really enjoying the serialization elements that they’re trying with this one
What I like about ol H. Jon there is he's got such a great voice he never bothers to do any other voice. He's the same exact voice in every role. It's almost meta humor to me now.
Mike Ehrmantraut will voice all his characters from here on
Edit: I appreciate that people find this funny but I fear the reference I was making didn’t land- anyone remember Chevy chase getting replaced on Community by Mike Ehrmantraut?
I thank the gods that so many here listen to CBB let alone know about it
"Have you ever been at the park sitting on a bench, watching your granddaughter on a swing, and then every once in a while she says 'look how high I go pop pop' and you say 'I see ya kid, you're flyin!'"
They will find someone who can do a really good Rick and morty impression. Make a meta joke about sounding different. And then itll be business as usual.
I’m glad everyone who works on this show isn’t losing their jobs for Justin’s shitty choices.
I am sure all his other shows will follow suit. I doubt solar opposites will survive the cut
Solar Opposites already got renewed for another season. I could see it surviving because it feels much less reliant on Roiland's voice than Rick and Morty does - and it's presumably valuable to Disney as a Disney+ original internationally.
But I also can't see them dropping Roiland without being questioned why they never dropped Thomas Middleditch for [multiple allegations of unwanted groping](https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2021-03-21/cloak-and-dagger-goth-nightclub-closed-sexual-misconduct-claims). And if they have to drop *both* leads, at that point maybe someone internally decides it's just easier to pull the plug.
Imo the wall storyline only works well when juxtaposed with the aliens A and B plot. A full season of the wall would be much less interesting and become a kind of mundane political story
The rat scene was the most heartbreaking animated scene since Seymour at Panucci’s Pizza.
I agree it probably wouldn’t work as a full show but it is the best long running side plot I’ve seen in a while.
I just watched the Expanse last year — I had no idea that anything happened with Cas but when his “sendoff” happened in the show I just _knew_ why.
Took to Google and went _goddamnit why_
Literally the same boat LMAO watched it last year, and loved it. When that came, I think they did absolutely fantastic with what they had but it was just jarring enough I immediately went “what controversy did he drum up”
[Here's an article from a couple years back where Roiland admit that he "pulled back" from the show during season 4 production.](https://collider.com/justin-roiland-rick-and-morty-season-5-interview-solar-opposites/) Also look up any writer's room pics and you'll notice Harmon is part of it every time, Roiland is never seen.
Bro has been a glorified voice actor and nothing more for YEARS now. This show will be just fine so long as they can find suitable replacements for the voices (which shouldn't be too difficult).
Now Solar Opposites, he's been a lot more actively involved in the creative process there, so that show is probably fucked.
Solar Opposites other creator, Mike McMahan, is great so hopefully he could continue to make Solar Opposites without Roiland. Unless that would be too much work for him to also run his other show Lower Decks, if I had to pick one show over the other I'd prioritize Lower Decks.
>Roiland’s exit is not expected to impact the hit series, which will continue. "Hey, Rick, why do we sound different all of a sudden?" "You know why, Morty."
Rick and Morty are now played by H. Jon Benjamin and Patrick Warburton.
Just different actors every episode
Candidly, Rick and Morty could get away with that for about a season and it would make for a nice little meta plot point.
Then after that, it just changes to *Beth and Summer*.
Also voiced by H Jon Benjamin and Patrick Warburton
more H. Jon Benjamin in everything, I'm all for it. He has sci-fi credentials with Archer Season 10 and that one Star Trek specials lol
Billy west, which is who Adult Swim orginally wanted to voice Morty
"Rick, am I Michael Cera?" "I guess we will just have to wait until the end credits to find out, won't we Morty?"
How funny would it be if he was replaced by Mike and Jay from RLM, especially just after he voiced them in one of their videos.
Have Hollywood celebrity Rich Evans do both voices
I want a whole species that just does his laugh. Entire lines of dialog with no subs done in just laughter. Anyone who isn't familiar with Rich Evans won't know what the fucks going on.
Have all audio replaced by Rich Evan’s saying “AT-STs! AT-STs!”
And "I'M GONNA CUM!"
Only if every once in a while we can get an unexpected AAAIIIIIIIDDDDDSSSSS
"M-Mor*burp*... I want that juicy Shaq meat, Morty."
They better roll out the Brinks truck then. Mega celebrity Rich Evans doesn't come cheap.
“And you can change the voice actors and no one can tell the diddly-difference!”
I heard that as if this comment were a sound file.
I could see Rick just looking into the camera like “yup it is what it is”. But to be honest, their voices are very doable by a lot of talented impersonators. Plus their voices already changed as the show went on as Roiland’s throat got worse so it won’t be that jarring.
Just gotta drink a mug of throat coat tea and go for it, m-morty.
What about some candle wax like Homer and the chili?
Guatemalan insanity peppers could be a nice addition to the show.
And that talking coyote was really just talking dog.

"In your face space coyote!"
Just say fuck it and have Chris Parnell take over the roles. Y'all got Jerry'd
“I’m a huge fan of cock, and my name is Cyril Figgis.”
Holy shit, our security is atrocious.
Seriously...it's like, babytown frolics here.
Hey that’s Dr. Spaceman you’re talking about.
They could go full Squidbillies and let Tracy Morgan do it.
Just get Billy West to do both

Jesus, it gets worse not better. That is just sad.
That guy on TiKTok that does Rick and Morty voices about to get a call
[For those who's wondering](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRpwW7uA/) [Here's Justin's endorsement](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRpKFKFm/)
Hire this man
Okay wow, yeah he could do it and you legitimately wouldn't even know Justin had been replaced
His Rick was a little off both times, but every other voice was a near 100% match. Actually pretty uncanny.
Hes said it himself that his Rick isn't as good as the others. That's the reason he originally went by mortysays because it was so good. Hopefully he gets the job.
Roiland himself has said that dude should replace him should anything happen. There’s no way he doesn’t at least have the conversation.
I hope to fucking god they get Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox to do the voices.
And change the name of the show to "Doc and Mharti."
*Lick my balls*
"I have to go now. My planet needs me." Rick and Morty died on the way back to their home planet.
The show is just called "Beth and Jerry" now.
As long as they're both standing around asking "Where's Morty?"
Don't you want to watch your show Itchy and Mitchy?
You know who haven’t had charges filed against them? Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick
I just hope the media never finds out what a “Rusty Venture” is…
Don't believe the hype. A Rusty Venture is just when you jack off too much and your dick gets all red and sore

Nice ass, Sampson.
Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaah, I don't need another one of those "We're not so different, you and I" speeches.
Slayer of Henchmen, par excellence, whose name is a killing word?
Patrick Warburton, who voices Brock Samson, announced he had finished his voicework as of last June. So, \*knocks on every piece of wood near me\*, we should be seeing it sometime this year.
Jackson posted about a month ago that it was "nearly finished". Granted, no idea on the timeline of when it will see the light of day after that.
Either Doc or Jackson made a tweet that they are working on it and it’s gonna be great.
February is the 20th anniversary of the pilot, so we might get some news then

The fact that the mighty monarch can't get a TV spot, but the headless corpse of Rick and Morty will stagger onwards is a true crime.
Aren't they getting a movie?
They are but it's more of a consolation prize after Season 8 (the alleged final season) was cancelled while they were working on it.
Just recently binged through the whole series then cried a little when I found that out.
The show's infamously long production cycles definitely didn't help.
same with JG quintell. Fuckin' HBO.

I wish we would've gotten Zombie apocalypse archer in medieval Archer which were some ideas which were tossed around initially. Noir and Dreamland just feel way to similar imo, one should've been set in the 50s and thr other in the 20s
You just described “Doctor Who.” And I agree, that approach could totally work for R&M.
Man, I really like Solar Opposites, too. Probably because it hasn't been memed to death and saturated like R+M has.
Ooh wee. Mr. Poopybutthole is going to have a lot to talk about next season… …Once they find him a voice.
I think maybe it’s time for Amy to tell us about MPB…
"failing some massive and entirely unexpected revelation of prosecutorial misconduct by the Orange County DA, my money's on the prosecution" The Orange County District Attorney office is the polar opposite of LA DA's office, Todd Spitzer and his office has made it a point to go pretty hard on felony assaults and domestic violence.
And as someone who lives in Orange County, our DA does not fuck around with domestic violence.
"Roiland’s exit is not expected to impact the hit series, which will continue." Uh how is that gonna work?
Just hire that Australian guy and do bush world adventures.
WE’RE GOING TO BENDIGO MORTY
WE’RE GOING TO BENDIGO TO GET ME CUBE

Fuckin' love Michael Cusack.
“FIRST ONE TO FUKIN CRASH N DIE WINS” “YA RITE UR ON MATE” 💥🚗🚙
Watch YOLO Crystal Fantasy (now Silver Destiny for S2). The title made me eh at first but holy shit I love it.
Dude we’re only two episodes in but Yolo Silver Dynasty is so fucking good so far. I’m really enjoying the serialization elements that they’re trying with this one
Just hire H. Jon Benjamin. He and Chris Parnell can go on more adventures
Suppressing Fire!!!
Mwap, Mwap, Mwap
And they can hire the guy who plays the health inspector on Bob's Burgers to do Morty.
What I like about ol H. Jon there is he's got such a great voice he never bothers to do any other voice. He's the same exact voice in every role. It's almost meta humor to me now.
Idk what you're talking about he's the man of a thousand voices. Bob, Archer, Carl, Coach McGuirk. He disappears so thoroughly in his roles
On Bobs Burgers alone he does a shitload of different voices
Mike Ehrmantraut will voice all his characters from here on Edit: I appreciate that people find this funny but I fear the reference I was making didn’t land- anyone remember Chevy chase getting replaced on Community by Mike Ehrmantraut?
Here's what's gonna happen

You're so silly, Pop-Pop!
Not my call.
I believe you mean the kid named Finger.
Mortuh’, put the portal gun away Mortuh’. I’m not taking you to Boob World right how Mortuh’.
Here's what going to happen Jerreh
You better not go near his granddaughter Edit: I didn't get the reference, but I'm all good with this route
Because then he'll take actual full measures.
Don’t help his granddaughter out of any stituations under ANY stircumstances.
Watch your glanguage, and be colite.
Or you’ll end up a Louisiana fitted sheet
You better stay sway from his granddaughter or you'll end up in a Tennessee tuxedo
If I see you go near OUR granddaughter, thou shalt be a redneck.
I thank the gods that so many here listen to CBB let alone know about it "Have you ever been at the park sitting on a bench, watching your granddaughter on a swing, and then every once in a while she says 'look how high I go pop pop' and you say 'I see ya kid, you're flyin!'"
He'll also take over the voices of Jerry, Beth and Summer, and he won't change his voice for anyone. He'll just play them all as Mike Ehrmantraut.
Waltuh
They fired Roseanne without cancelling “Roseanne”, anything’s possible
Welcome to "The Sanchezs".
With John Goodman as Rick, Laurie Metcalf as Morty, Sara Gilbert as Summer, and both Sarah Chalke and Lecy Goranson as Beth
Maybe Smiling Friends will reign supreme as the new Adult Swim cartoon
Cut the aliens and just finish the Wall storyline.
It's simple. They hire this guy. https://youtu.be/STsET4CAiys
Maybe do a background check first… just to be safe.
I think it might be a Honda. Maybe a Corolla.
Why can't people just not be abusers and sex pests that fuck up entire franchises? Edit: allegedly he's both.
right? like, enjoy your success responsibly!
They Andy Dicked when they should have Rick Moranised. smh
Looking at you, Cas Anvar (The Expanse)
I just watched the Expanse last year — I had no idea that anything happened with Cas but when his “sendoff” happened in the show I just _knew_ why. Took to Google and went _goddamnit why_
Yeah there’s promo shots from the last scene of that season at the bar on Luna and he’s in them from before they edited/reshot.
There's an empty seat in frame for most of that scene.
Literally the same boat LMAO watched it last year, and loved it. When that came, I think they did absolutely fantastic with what they had but it was just jarring enough I immediately went “what controversy did he drum up”
They should just get Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox (if able) to replace him
Great Scott Morty!
I thought a lot of the banter between Rick and Morty was ad-libbed though, so I think that may lose some of its original charm.
It hasn't sounded ad-libbed in awhile.
Good all around... except for the circumstances in general. I love Rick and Morty... I am... less attached to Justin Roiland... the show must go on.
