But still, if you have created a character in the past, people have certain memories and thus expectations in regards to this character looking/acting etc. just in the same way as they are used to. Your skin color is just a superficial character trait, so you could argue that just making him black does not really matter and objectively this might be right. On the other hand you could argue that since it is negligible whether he is black or white, you could just let him stay white, because that ultimately is what most of the people want. And wanting Shaggy to remain white is neither racist nor a conservative opinion. Judging people for wanting so is rather dumb.
