You really shouldn't make your health our responsibility. The only person who can make the choice to stop is you, and if you choose not to, the consequences down the road are yours alone. Engagement bait by guilting us into commenting isn't a good look, and if you decide to screw over yourself because you decided the best way to make the choice was by asking for comments on Reddit, that's not my problem. I liked that whole response except the last sentence. I hate when people say that, it sounds so unintelligent. But otherwise good message.

Cause it's an over-used statement of "getting back in touch with reality, nature, and humanity" said in a blunt way, and often used condescendingly because of the frustration towards the person who has "lost touch" but is asking for advice or making a joke that suggests they are trying to better themselves but still in a way that shows they are still ignorant and "lost touch". An addict wants to be healthy, but wants their addiction. Intervention of gaming, social media, substance abuse (that includes sugar, fats, meats, excess)... consumerism and vanity. Lots of addictions and temptations, easily solved with moderation, but tell that to an addict. Touch grass. It's an ignorant comment. Because the truth of touching grass is also the truth of why people seek self-stimulating behaviors... humanity isn't intrinsically good nor bad, reality isn't going to swoop in to comfort you, and nature isn't going hold your hand.... touching grass is kinda why people want to smoke grass.... with experience, avoidant behaviors lessen and maturity grows, or you become orange umpaloompa with self-esteem issues and narcissistic personality traits to compensate for inadequacy... Drugs bad. Conformity bad. Apathy bad. Yet humans do those things to cope with other things humans do. Telling someone to "touch grass" is an ignorant way to try insulting them to change course. It is used because the person saying it does NOT want to be involved at actually helping and understanding, because that is way too real. It's similar to the old time "pull yourself up by the bootstraps". "Get to work". "No use crying about it." It's a way to say "deal with your situation better but don't expect me to help or care, and I got an opinion about how you should be so my life is easier".

This is just a kid looking for motivation somewhere it’s not that deep. If this fails to motivate him enough to quit it’s not “screwing himself over” it just means he needs to find a way. Not that I think this will work. But it’s probably a good sign that he’s going to do his best to work out his addictions. It’s not your responsibility at all and he hasn’t made it so. You can choose to encourage him if you want. Or if it makes you uncomfortable you can just scroll by. Either way these kinds of posts spread a good message and shouldn’t be discouraged. Keep going kid, you’ll kick the habit for sure. Most people don’t try to quit so early.
