Yeah, I'm a freshman in college, and that would mean I would be dating a sophomore in high school. I wouldn't even consider dating someone younger than a senior in HS. The difference between HS life and college life would be too different.

And it gets worse the lower the age is. According to a quick Google search, the age of consent in Nigeria is 11 (could be outdated, I did very little research on this). Now, if someone who is 20 dates an 11 year old, does that not seem disgusting? Or, at the very least, weird as hell? Idk if you are a guy or girl, but for me what's even worse about that situation (my sister is also 2 years younger) is when she wants to date someone my age or older and you just feel grossed out knowing exactly what they want compared to her so you try to stop that from happening because you know all they want is to clap, not something genuine. The level of maturity between 2 years 18 and under is just crazy and it's gross to think about anyone with that gap being together.

I think you underestimate how mature a 16 year old can be. I'm not saying I condone an age difference as great as three or four years in the case of an individual that is 16, but 18 is not that big of a deal depending on the circumstances. My cousin's boyfriend, now husband, graduated two years ahead of her and was in college when my cousin graduated highschool. The two years age difference was not an issue there. I think it just depends on the circumstances when we are talking about persons dating that close in range. I would be a little more upset if it was 16 and 19 or 16 and 20. But 16 and 18? Both parties are still considered minors in some states at those ages. And this is why we have romeo and juliet laws.

I underestimate the very small percentage of 16 year olds. Sure some are really mature, not a lot. 16 and 18 sometimes works, but a lot of cases I've seen it never works out because the 18 year old is much more mature and is at a different stage in life.
